Dave is joined by Darryl on this week's Geektown Radio as they chat through the latest TV, film and gaming news, along with the shows and games they've been watching recently.Darryl kicks things off with a look at ‘High Potential' Season 2, the crime procedural starring Kaitlin Olson, which continues to deliver those fun “clever outsider helps the police” vibes. He also reviews ‘Mistletoe Murders', the surprisingly intriguing cosy crime series starring Sarah Drew, which is available in the UK on ITVX, along with Jackie Chan action thriller ‘The Shadow's Edge', and indie drama ‘The Bearded Girl'.Meanwhile, Dave has been diving into the early access release of ‘Subnautica 2', which builds on the underwater survival, base-building and monster-dodging brilliance of the original game. He also gives his thoughts on ‘The Punisher: One Last Kill', the Marvel one-shot style special bringing Jon Bernthal's Frank Castle further into the MCU, and discusses the finale of ‘Outlander', including its deliberately ambiguous ending. Plus, there's a look at ‘Good Omens 3', which wraps up the story of Crowley and Aziraphale in a 90-minute Prime Video finale. In the news section, we cover ‘The Lincoln Lawyer' ending with Season 5 on Netflix, Channel 4 cancelling ‘Pushers', and a huge batch of BBC comedy renewals including ‘Amandaland', ‘Black Ops', ‘Such Brave Girls', ‘Things You Should Have Done', ‘Mammoth' and ‘Two Doors Down'. We also discuss renewals for ‘Prisoner', ‘Running Point', ‘My Life with the Walter Boys', ‘Jury Duty', ‘Reacher', ‘Margo's Got Money Troubles', and more. There are also air date updates for ‘Ride with Norman Reedus' on ITVX, ‘Stuart Fails To Save The Universe' on HBO Max, ‘VisionQuest' on Disney+, and ‘The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power' Season 3 on Prime Video. Plus, Prime Video gives a series order to fantasy adaptation ‘Fourth Wing', while Peacock begins development on a live-action ‘Fast & Furious' TV series with Vin Diesel producing. Finally, we run through next week's TV highlights, including ‘Jack Ryan', ‘Maximum Pleasure Guaranteed', ‘SkyMed', ‘The Boroughs', ‘PONIES', ‘Two Weeks in August', ‘Dear England', ‘Brokenwood Mysteries', ‘Law & Order: Special Victims Unit', ‘Rick and Morty', and ‘Who Do You Think You Are?'.You can listen to Geektown Radio every week for TV, film and gaming chat, UK air date updates, renewals, cancellations, and all the latest entertainment news from Geektown.co.uk.Support this show http://supporter.acast.com/geektown. Photo by Valérie Ungerer on Unsplash Published 18 May 2026 e554 with Michael and Michael – stories and discussion on LLM phone number lookups, proctors returning to Princeton, lavish LEGO, LOTR and a whole lot more! While Andy is away, Michael and Michael get things started with a discussion on the changing nature of sensitive and private information.  What was once published in a phonebook is now a central identify hub.  While Jenny most certainly had to change her phone number from 867-5309 and have the new one unlisted, she likely posts what would have been very personal photos on Insta, Mastodon or any number of social media services.  Michael R points out that while a phone book was available for a municipality, it was not available at a country level, preserving a degree of anonymity. Continuing on the theme of social implications of technology, Michael and Michael consider the Atlantic's article about the demise of Princeton's honor code process.  Check out the link below for some fantastic quotes from the Daily Princetonian – sadly the newspaper online archives only go back to 2001. Next up is an article from Thinking Machines' full duplex capabilities for natural voice interaction with agents.   LEGO is in focus for this episode (surprise!) with two intriguing sets.  First, a super cool LEGO Ideas Tetris arcade game cabinet with a hidden room.  This reminded Michael M of the set he built that also has a cool hidden room inside.  Then, Michael R shares a bit on the new Minas Tirith set – which has many elements from the movies, and includes the opportunity for a GWP (gift with purchase) of the battering ram Grond if you're one of the first to plunk down your gold pieces for this build. The fact that this is up on the Internets on 18 May is due to the hard work from Andy.  He migrated our hosting over the weekend, and this is the first post on the new service.  Hurrah, Andy!   Do you still have a copy of your city's phonebook?  Have your bots (or agents!)

In FOLLOW UP, the child social media crackdown keeps expanding. Turkey just approved a ban for under-15s, and Sony will require age verification for PlayStation communication features in the UK and Ireland starting in June—because now you need to prove you're an adult before trash-talking strangers online. Meanwhile, Anthropic's prediction that fully autonomous AI employees would already be transforming business hasn't materialized. Agentic systems are still struggling with basic workflows and, in some cases, slowing developers down. And in a more concrete reversal, Elon Musk acknowledged that pre-2023 Tesla Hardware 3 will never support Full Self-Driving. Customers who paid for the feature are now being steered toward discounted trade-ins, new cameras, and upgraded hardware—prompting obvious legal exposure.IN THE NEWS: SpaceX is reportedly targeting what could be the largest IPO ever, at roughly a $1.75 trillion valuation, with dual-class shares that preserve Musk's control through super-voting rights. Prediction markets continue to degrade: Kalshi suspended political candidates for trading on their own races, and Polymarket saw alleged manipulation via a tampered weather sensor at Charles de Gaulle Airport. On the AI front, Anthropic's new Mythos model had a chaotic rollout—used by the NSA, applied to patch hundreds of Firefox vulnerabilities, and briefly exposed through unauthorized access in a developer portal. Amazon followed with a $25 billion investment in Anthropic, even as governments appear to access similar capabilities independently. At the same time, the economics are tightening. Free tiers are shrinking, GitHub Copilot is shifting to token-based billing after costs doubled, and startups are normalizing six-figure monthly AI compute bills. Infrastructure growth continues unchecked: thousands of new data centers are planned across the U.S., while xAI faces scrutiny in Memphis over water usage and delayed mitigation projects. Environmental commitments increasingly resemble marketing rather than enforceable targets.Policy signals are equally aggressive. DHS is exploring smart glasses for ICE agents with facial recognition and gait analysis by 2027. Palantir published a manifesto advocating expanded use of state power with rhetoric that raised concerns about ideological framing. On a lighter note, a University of California, Santa Barbara study suggests that brief exposure to experimental film measurably increases creativity compared to standard social media consumption.MEDIA CANDY: Silo returns July 3 on Apple TV+, while The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power Season 3 is expected sooner than planned. Battlestar Galactica lands on Paramount+ and Pluto TV May 1. Dead Can Dance is releasing monthly singles via its Bandcamp imprint. Deezer reports 44% of daily uploads—about 75,000 tracks—are AI-generated, though only a small fraction of streams come from them, many flagged as fraudulent. And yes, Jessica Jones is back in Daredevil.APPS & DOODADS: Apple patched the notification-cache bug that allowed forensic tools to recover deleted Signal messages. Roblox agreed to a $12 million settlement with Nevada and is rolling out facial age estimation, ID verification, and new contact controls, while still facing multi-state litigation. Cash App is targeting younger users—ages six to twelve—with parent-managed accounts, debit cards, and interest incentives. Separately, a federal judge issued a preliminary injunction protecting ICE-tracking apps, ruling that government pressure on Apple and Meta to remove them likely violated First Amendment protections.IN THE DARK SIDE WITH DAVE: AI-generated Star Wars fan films are improving visually, even if performances remain rigid. The current era of Star Trek is effectively closing out with a large prop auction, notably excluding Star Trek: Strange New Worlds. The broader discussion circles back to time compression—post-pandemic, and with age—and the persistent disconnect between economic scale and general dissatisfaction.Sponsors:DeleteMe - Get 20% off your DeleteMe plan when you go to JoinDeleteMe.com/GOG and use promo code GOG at checkout.Shopify - Sign up for your one-dollar-per-month trial today at Shopify.com/grumpyPrivate Internet Access - Go to GOG.Show/vpn and sign up today. Most businesses treat social media like a task to check off. Post something, hope it performs, repeat. But according to today's guest, that's exactly why most businesses are getting mediocre results — because social media isn't a task. It's a craft.I sit down with Jon-Stephen Stansel — social media manager turned entertainment industry freelancer and author of The 10 Principles of Effective Social Media Marketing — for a conversation about what actually works on social media in 2026. Jon-Stephen has managed social for Texas State University, worked on Prime Video's Invincible, Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, the Avatar franchise, and is currently working on Beast Games for MrBeast. Through all of it, he's distilled social media into 10 principles inspired by designer Dieter Rams — evergreen enough to be true a decade ago and still true today. We cover why goals — not followers or viral moments — are the only real starting point, why audience alignment needs to happen before any content gets created, how to find and hire the right social media help without getting burned, how to measure social media success in a way that actually means something to your business, and why the most important principle of all is that social media is fundamentally human — even in the age of AI.If you've ever wondered why your social media efforts aren't translating into real business results, this episode will show you where to look.KEY TOPICSJon-Stephen's career path: from ESL teacher to university social media manager to entertainment industry freelancerHow a personal brand on Twitter led to a freelance career working on Invincible, Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, Avatar, and Beast Games for MrBeastThe inspiration behind The 10 Principles of Effective Social Media Marketing — Dieter Rams' 10 Principles of Good DesignWhy goals are the foundation of any social media strategy — and how to make them realisticThe Texas Department of Transportation example: when C-suite goals and audience needs don't alignWhy audience alignment must come before content creation — not afterHow Jon-Stephen researches audiences: Reddit, burner Facebook accounts, fan communities, and tools like BrandwatchHow to find a passionate audience even for a brand nobody is talking about yet (the "fandels" scented candle community example)Why social media is a craft, not a chore — and what that means for who you hireThe social media mechanic analogy: you can pump the gas, but sometimes you need an expertWhere to find good social media help: LinkedIn, community referrals, and spotting brands doing it wellRed flags when hiring: promises that sound too good to be true and bought followersWhat to prepare before handing social over to anyone: brand voice documents and tone guidelinesHow to align social media metrics with business goals — and why follower count Learn More:Buy Digital Threads: https://nealschaffer.com/digitalthreadsamazonBuy Maximizing LinkedIn for Business Growth: https://nealschaffer.com/maximizinglinkedinamazonJoin My Digital First Mastermind: https://nealschaffer.com/membership/ Learn about My Fractional CMO Consulting Services: https://nealschaffer.com/cmoDownload My Free Ebooks Here: https://nealschaffer.com/books/Subscribe to my YouTube Channel: https://youtube.com/nealschafferAll My Podcast Show Notes: https://podcast.nealschaffer.com

The Anthony Mackie-led vehicle, which is the fourth Captain America film and 35th MCU film overall, managed to exceed somewhat meager box office projections, however, its reception with both critics and audiences isn't as definitive a victory. The film is currently sitting at 51% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes and has earned a B- CinemaScore, which is among some franchise lows for Marvel.According to exclusive reports from Deadline, the Mike Flanagan-penned, solo Clayface film seems to be on track to meet its targeted September 2026 release, with DC leadership set to hear pitches from potential filmmakers next week. Two noteworthy names rising to the top as candidates to helm the rumored horror-tragedy include Speak No Evil's James Watkins and Truth or Dare's Jeff Wadlow – with the expectation that casting will quickly follow suit once a director is locked-in. James Gunn has described the film as a DCU project, but it is still unclear whether it will connect to any existing projects or continuity. Christopher Nolan's next film for Universal, The Odyssey, has assembled an understandably stacked cast that includes the likes of Tom Holland, Zendaya, Lupita Nyong'o and Jon Bernthal to name a few; now Mia Goth has joined the cast in an undisclosed role, while Matt Damon's role has finally officially been revealed to the title of role of Odysseus as announced via a photo shared from the film's X account. The retelling of Homer's epic poem is slated for a July 17, 2026 release. Universal has debuted the first full trailer for the live action remake of How To Train Your Dragon ahead of its June 13 release.Hulu released a first-look teaser for the final season of The Handmaid's Tale, premiering with three episodes on April 8, followed by weekly releases until the May 27 finale. Meanwhile, the sequel series The Testaments has cast Chase Infiniti to star alongside returning Handmaid's Tale veteran Ann Dowd.Six-time Emmy winner John Lithgow is in final negotiations to portray Professor Albus Dumbledore in HBO‘s high-profile series adaptation of the Harry Potter books, sources tell Deadline.Ridley Scott's dystopian thriller The Dog Stars is adding to its cast, with Margaret Qualley, Josh Brolin, and Guy Pearce in final talks to join Jacob Elordi. Written by Mark L. Smith, the film adapts Peter Heller's 2012 apocalyptic novel for 20th Century Studios.Prime Video has confirmed The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power for a third season, set to film this spring. The new season will feature a major time jump, unfolding during the height of the War of the Elves and Sauron as the Dark Lord forges the One Ring.Peacock has released the first teaser trailer for season 2 of Twisted Metal, starring Anthony Mackie. The series will return this summer.Deadline's sources say Netflix is developing a live-action Dungeons & Dragons series titled The Forgotten Realms. Shawn Levy, Hasbro Entertainment, and showrunner Dave Crevello are producing the project.Warner Bros. has hired Potsy Ponciroli to write a sequel to the 1985 film The Goonies, with Steven Spielberg and Chris Columbus returning as producers. The project has no director attached yet.Deadline has learned that Denis Villeneuve is currently planning to film Dune 3 this summer and a team has been in pre-production on the film for quite some time. Power tends to corrupt, and absolute power corrupts absolutely.” This famous quote, attributed to Lord Acton, could just as easily serve as the thesis statement for the sophomore season of Amazon's streaming hit, The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power. Further exploring the Second Age of Middle-earth, the allure and peril of unchecked power and untempered ambition become inevitable thematic focal points this season, as the series inches us closer to Tolkien's legendary trilogy. One of the most compelling aspects of the most recent season is its focus on the power of suggestion and manipulation. Sauron is a master of deceit, poised to play perhaps the most important role in shaping the fate of Middle-earth. His ability to influence the hearts and minds of even the wisest and most powerful among the Elves, such as Galadriel, was showcased in the first season. If one can look past the compressed timeline and slight alterations to Tolkien's established mythology for the sake of adaptation, the cultural apologist can find in this most recent season of The Rings of Power a valuable tool for engaging in meaningful conversations about faith. This Postmodern Realities episode is a conversation with JOURNAL author Cole Burgett about his online article entitled, "The Subtle Art of Corruption in the Sophomore Season of The Rings of Power". Check it out on Disney+. Jay is enjoying the second season of Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power. It has a more epic feel and is giving a very entertaining interpretation of Tolkien's Middle Earth backstory of the origin of the rings and of Sauron.      Enjoy Movies!  Cheech Marin and Tommy Chong met in Vancouver, British Columbia in 1969, and started a friendship that lasts to today. They found they had a similar sense of humor and began improv together. They expanded to opening for others, and eventually headlining large venues. Their movies aren't deep, and often centered around infantile and drug humor, but it influenced a lot of people and set us on the path of understanding…well, a little.
