Steve interviews Geno Cuddy, a walking encyclopedia of B Western lore. Through Geno, we learn about the product of Hollywood's Poverty Row studios, and cowboy actor legends Roy Rogers, William S. Hart, Ken Maynard, Hoot Gibson, Buck Jones, Sunset Carson, Buster Crabbe, Lash Larue and others, in a spirited discussion about a little known but vital part of early Hollywood history.
EPISODE 56 - “MARJORIE REYNOLDS: CLASSIC CINEMA STAR OF THE MONTH” - 10/07/2024 Most film fanatics agree that after the Paramount Picture's holiday classic “Holiday Inn” (1942), actress MARJORIE REYNOLDS, who gave a star-turn as struggling actress Linda Mason who gets a break singing and dancing in the seasonal nightclub run by BING CROSBY, should have been a big star. However, for reasons not quite clear, she didn't rise into the stratosphere. While she had a very respectable and long career, she just didn't soar to the top, as expected. As our Star of the Month, we will take a look into Marjorie Reynolds' life and career and explore our theories on why “Holiday Inn” did not make her a major star.

My guest this week left his old life behind to chase dreams of freedom with the love of his life. Buck Jones was working a corporate job with a homophobic boss when he and his then-boyfriend, now-husband sold their home and moved overseas to open a little cafe in Paris. It was the culmination of a lot of childhood dreams, informed by Buck's love of classic mid-century sitcoms — but it was also the start of a lot of work, and a gigantic culture shock. We'll have that conversation in a minute. First, a reminder to head over to mattbaume.com to subscribe to my newsletter — this week I have a story about the movie Twilight and its connection to squids. Also take a look at my YouTube channel for videos about film and TV history. I just posted a video about the conflict over the sitcom Soap that engulfed America in the summer of 1977. And head over to my Patreon to support The Sewers of Paris and watch hours of bonus videos, including an interview with Marsha Posner Williams, producer of The Golden Girls and Soap and many other shows.

Steen og Teddy kaster sig over endnu en skype-session og borer sig ned i "The Range Feud" fra 1931. Her har John Wayne rollen som en slags Romeo. Buck Jones er den egentlige helt i denne film.
