“I've realized that the only competition I really have is myself.” At just 18 years old, Amy Thompson is already rewriting the narrative of what it means to be an elite athlete. A British F41 shot putter gunning for the LA 2028 Paralympics, Amy is more than a powerhouse on the field—she's a fierce advocate, scientist-in-training, and pianist who refuses to be put in a box. She shares, “People with dwarfism are often boxed in just as they're seen as being incapable...Anyone with dwarfism has equal opportunity... to be whoever they want to be and do whatever they want to do.” Amy first discovered para sport through the Dwarf Sports Association at age 8 and won gold at her first international competition in Italy by 15. But the journey hasn't been easy. After losing her coach to cancer, she found a new calling: biomedical science, with aspirations to study oncology. “It was quite difficult, because he was the one that brought me to my first ever international competition...but I know I can move on.” In this episode, Amy opens up about battling media misrepresentation, reclaiming language around disability, and why young athletes should stop comparing themselves to others. “You've always got to know that they're not going to affect you as much as you can affect yourself.” From underfunded competitions to under-covered sports, Amy wants the world to stop underestimating para athletes. Her call to action? “Do your research. Learn about the athlete. We work just as hard—if not harder—than anyone else.” --------- Flame Bearers is a multi media movement, illuminating the unsung stories of elite women athletes from around the world. Today, I am interviewing Amy Thompson. Amy was diagnosed with MS in 2018 and felt there was little representation and a lack of support specifically for young adults living with MS. On today's episode, we talk about her diagnosis, how MS Together came about, and what MS Together offers. Amy is a charity founder and CEO, winner of a National Diversity Award, a freelance content creator and a disability advocate. Amy was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis in 2018 and felt there was little representation and a lack of support specifically for young adults living with MS, so in 2019, she founded MS Together, which started as a community organization but is now a UK-based charity. Stella calls upon us to heal and find our full glorious potential as human beings, reminding us we are valid and that we are in the driver's seat of our lives. Content warning: This episode contains explicit material and may not be suitable for all listeners. Stella takes us across time, lands, cultures, and the many lives she has lived all in this one lifetime. She begins in South Africa, her beloved homeland in the painful years of apartheid and the way those years shaped her. Stella travels to Australia and shares with us a bit about her ten years living there. While there, Stella found the Hoffman Process. She came to the Process in the early '00s with a desire to heal. She left the Process knowing she wanted to become a Hoffman teacher, which she did there in Australia, beginning her journey to be a part of the healing of this world. We then journey with Stella back to her beloved South Africa and the majestic white lions, women's healing and empowerment, and permaculture education. Since becoming a teacher, Stella has taught the Process in Australia, the UK, Canada, and the US. Stella shares stories about the era of apartheid in South Africa and how it affected her and her future life trajectory. Amy Thompson is a beloved Hoffman Teacher and Coach. In today's episode, she shares her story of recovery, losing her father, the grief she experienced from his loss, and her experience going through cancer treatment while training to become a Hoffman Process teacher. And, really, Amy shares so much more. Listen in as Amy shares about learning she was accepted into the Hoffman teacher training program at the same time she received her cancer diagnosis. She knew she needed to care for both her body and her spirit. With an assured Yes to both, Amy embarked on a powerful journey of healing all of her Quadrinity through chemotherapy infusions and the work of the Process. Amy and Drew talk about the need to be responsible for our lives. One beautiful thing Amy got from the Process was realizing that her patterns were the source of feeling over-responsible for everyone else. By transforming these patterns into a more positive way of being through her work at the Process, she reclaimed her power. With this power, found she could step more fully into what she calls intense self-responsibility for how she shows up in every moment. Amy says, "Hoffman, for me, was not the end of my journey but definitely a huge milestone in my own recovery, in my own kind of recognition for who I am and this whole being able to be a good human." Hoffman is a part of Amy's family. Many in her family have done the Process. Amy's mother-in-law, Nita Gage, is also a Hoffman Process teacher. Listen in as Amy shares so much more of her life and her Hoffman journey. We hope you enjoy this conversation. Rude! Ill-mannered! Uh oh! After only one night of their visit, Mr. Redge declares that his cozy, country inn experience is over for his city cousin, Rodge. It seems that these two are set on squabbling instead of enjoying their time together. Does Rodge really feel superior because he lives in Litropia and not the Folktale Forest? See how this tale of competing and comparisons turns into acts of mutual appreciation.PARENTS, TEACHERS AND HOMESCHOOLERS: This story was inspired by Aesop's fable, “The Town Mouse and the Country Mouse.” The narrative illustrates how easy it is to make the wrong assumptions about someone else's behavior, and how we can envy what others have instead of appreciating all the good things in our own lives. As we begin another year of the “next normal, ”clubs are struggling to maintain their group fitness programming and their Group Fitness Instructors. During the pandemic, many fitness teachers and trainers were forced to go out on their own to offer classes in their backyards and basements or on virtual platforms. Other instructors left our industry altogether. Now that our fitness facilities have reopened, there has been a shortage of group ex instructors and lower group ex attendance. Both instructors and clubs are pushing to increase class turnout. Join our panel of experts for this special hour-long webinar as they examine the future of group exercise: the programs, the people, and the profits.

Will the story's unintended consequences touch Redge's heart and remind him what he should value the most?PARENTS, TEACHERS AND HOMESCHOOLERS: This story was inspired by the mythological story of King Midas and the Golden Touch. In this episode of Hobby Farms Presents: Growing Good, Dr. Mehmet Öztan talks seed justice, selecting seeds for saving, the Seedy Talks speaker series, and more about his work as an underrepresented minoritized farmer in West Virginia. Hear about how Dr. Öztan went from receiving a PhD in civil engineering to starting Two Seeds in a Pod heirloom seed company with his wife, Dr. Amy Thompson, all because he wanted to recreate the flavors he remembered from his childhood in Turkey. He shares the challenges of tracking down seeds and histories of vegetable and herb varieties whose stories are largely passed down by oral tradition. Listen—with horror—to Dr. Öztan's story about that time he got a call that a cow was loose in his garden on leased land and appreciate other complexities of growing and maintaining rare and culturally significant seeds. Get Dr. Öztan's advice for selecting the plants from which you want to save seeds and understand what it takes to get a variety ready for commercial availability. Go behind the scenes in the seed industry, from Dr. Öztan's take on how your seed purchases shape the seed industry to navigating seed importation and accessing USDA germplasm seed banks, plus the problematic nature of seed expeditions. “Poppycock, nonsense and hedge-hogwash!” declares Mr. Redge when he learns winter is responsible for all the cold white stuff making his wallaby friend's toes and tail freeze. Before emotions heat up to a high degree, the magical weather pixie known as Jack Frost pops in to share what's so cool about the chilly season. Can he ultimately prove to the Folktale Forest's creatures that there's no business like snow business?PARENTS, TEACHERS AND HOMESCHOOLERS: This story was inspired by the tale of Jack Frost, a personification of frost, ice, snow, sleet, and winter. After tumbling down the rabbit hole, Alice and Mr. Redge find themselves smack dab in the middle of the Queen of Hearts kingdom. Seeing her subjects so forlorn over her majesty's ill-temper, the two concoct a clever croquet challenge to rid her of her crotchety ways. Can the queen learn their lesson of cooperation and good sportsmanship, or will she command that everyone go, OFF TO THEIR BEDS?!PARENTS, TEACHERS AND HOMESCHOOLERS: This is a reimagined story based on “The Queen's Croquet Ground” chapter in the classic, “Alice in Wonderland” story. It's aliiiive!! Deep in the Foreshadow, the ever-dark lands of Once Upon a Time, lived Hogenstein, the infamous warthog scientist who invented “It's Alive No. 5!” Using this freaky formula, a lightning rod and a fierce thunderstorm, he and his loyal lab assistant, Lugo the bat, brought a super creature to life. Muahahaha! But wait…that's not what's so terrifying about this tale—the scariest part is when the creature goes out into the world alone to face his fears.PARENTS, TEACHERS AND HOMESCHOOLERS: This is our reimagining of the classic, “Frankenstein,” where facing one's fears is scarier than a spooky story. In our version, the creature goes out into the world on his own, tries things he has never tried before, and has the courage to never give up. He kept trying his best, even when the townspeople judged him before he had the chance to show them his big heart. We're so happy to be bringing you a story that Mr. Eric told along with our friend Jonathan Cormur on his podcast, Dorktales Storytime. Normally, we replay an old favorite once a month, so I hope you all enjoy this rare treat! Dorktales Storytime, hosted by voice actor Jonathan Cormur, is a podcast featuring slightly wacky and very geeky retellings of classic fairy tales with social-emotional lessons and the untold stories about the hidden heroes of history. The Story: It's the perfect day for pure play! Sherlock Nettlesbee, the great deducing squirrel detective, joins Jonathan and Mr. Redge in an afternoon of imagination and good old-fashioned make believe. When their cloud gazing doesn't cut it, Sherlock declares that “the Improv Game is afoot!” Can the trio find inspiration from Mary and her little lamb, Lula? Yes and…they're sure to find a whole-lotta playful, floofy fun everywhere they go! PARENTS, TEACHERS AND HOMESCHOOLERS: This story is about making time for imaginary play! Improvisation, or improv, is when you make up a story, or a scene, or a little bit of music on the spot. The ‘Yes And' game is when you listen to another person in your improv scene and agree with what they are saying—that's the ‘yes' part—and you use your own ideas to build on their thoughts—that's the ‘and' part. It's entertaining and very fun, plus it also encourages listening skills, collaboration and cooperation. I'm excited to share "Big Bad's Big Feelings" from Dorktales Storytime Podcast. I love their fun and funny take on fairytales and their original characters and stories too. Some Peace Out updates and news in the intro. You can also keep in touch by subscribing to our mailing list. Hope you enjoy this story as much as I enjoyed being part of it! Peace out and peace within, Chanel From the Dorktales Storytime Podcast show notes: Annoyed and anxious and angry, oh my! Looks like our friends from the Folktale Forest are on an emotional roller coaster, especially the Big Bad Wolf. He's so upset, he just wants to howl at the moon! Luckily, they encounter a caring capybara who patiently helps them sort through their big feelings and calm themselves down. Join Jonathan, Redge, and Big Bad as they learn how to understand one another, and huff and puff their stress away. PARENTS, TEACHERS AND HOMESCHOOLERS: Recognizing overwhelming feelings is one of the first steps towards feeling better and managing stress. This is an original story that helps kids learn how to self-regulate. It covers many coping strategies and ends with a mindfulness exercise that will help young people move through their anxious feelings. Two traveling dudes mindlessly meander down a path when they awaken ferocious O, a ginormous growling bear, from his peaceful slumber! Will these best bro buddies help each other to safety when the bear barrels towards them in full bluster? Or will one have to learn a righteous lesson about who he can truly count on when things get tough?PARENTS, TEACHERS AND HOMESCHOOLERS: This is our reimagining of the Aesop fable, “The Two Travelers and a Bear.” The theme of this story is “What is a true friend?” Good friends don't just care about themselves. Harumph! Why is a new neighbor making Mr. Redge's quills stand on end? Maybe his outlook will change after hearing the story of the pompous peacock who struts his fine feathers while prejudging the friendly crane. Will he connect with the crane's advice to stay open minded, or will he stand firm with his first fowl impression? PARENTS, TEACHERS AND HOMESCHOOLERS: This is our reimagining of the fable, “The Peacock and the Crane.” Seeing past the surface is the lesson of this story. Sometimes we tell ourselves that our value is only skin deep and it makes us feel insecure. We can also be too quick to cast judgments on others before we get to know them.
