In this episode, Corrine sits down with Candace Payne, the vibrant author, speaker, podcaster, and joy evangelist best known for her viral "Chewbacca Mom" video. While that viral moment brought laughter to many, Candace's journey goes much deeper. Now, she passionately shares her mission of "defiant joy"—choosing to embrace joy even amidst life's most challenging moments, not by denying hardships, but by allowing joy to exist alongside them. She believes joy is deeply intertwined with self-care and vulnerability, and that we must actively nurture ourselves in all areas of life to truly experience lasting happiness. Corrine and Candace dive into the beauty of being present and real in everyday life, showing how true joy bubbles up when we fully embrace our moments instead of trying to force happiness. Candace shared her secrets for finding joy by prioritizing overall health. They also chat about how powerful it is to use both therapy and faith to tackle life's struggles. They share their personal stories of finding joy even in grief and discuss how to intentionally make room for joy by scheduling it into their day. This episode is a beautiful reminder that joy is something we can actively create by taking care of ourselves in every way! This is an update to an episode we did a while back in April of 2020. And we're doing an update because Jonathan Skogmo, founder of Jukin Media, has some pretty big news… recently he sold his company for a reported $140 million dollars. In this episode we take a behind the scenes look at that 9 figure deal, and try to understand emotionally what it's like to sell a company you've built from your apartment over the last decade. A bit more about Jon: He's the founder of Jukin which is an innovative media company that focuses on user-generated content. What is user-generated content? Well, it's stuff like a video of a mom laughing hysterically while wearing a Chewbacca mask. That video is known as Chewbacca mom and the original video alone received over 140 million views. In fact, the video became so popular that this Chewbacca mask completely sold out around the world. Although the Chewbacca mom, otherwise known as Candace Payne, technically owns the video, the right to license that video belongs to Jukin. By acquiring viral videos, like this one, Jukin media has amassed 200 million fans and receives 3 billion views every month.
