Embracing Your Season: Raising Littles and Understanding Teens with Paige Clingenpeel
On today's episode of Embracing Your Season, Paige welcomes Emmy award-winning editor, author, speaker, and ministry founder, Jenny Randle. Paige and Jenny discuss Jenny's latest book, Flash Theology, and how to bring theology into our homes and our parenting. Jenny shares how Christians are/can be intimated by the idea of theology when in reality, it simply means the study of God. This is a practice available to anyone with a curiosity or desire to deepen their understanding of God and should not be feared! When we humble ourselves and admit that we do not know everything about who He is, we can learn, grow, and model a life of truth-seeking to our children, families, and friends. By this example, we invite our children into a real, thriving relationship with a God who is big enough to handle any question or doubt they may have.Takeaways:How can we disciple within our home?By taking each moment at a time that becomes a teachable moment! Call out when you see Jesus in them. Maybe it's an exuberant joy, maybe it's patience and kindness with siblings - whatever it is, make sure you are speaking LIFE and TRUTH over your kids. Who has my alliance and who am I partnering with?We all have an alliance with something. In this world, we are all being discipled by something. If we aren't intentional about our values, character, or definitions of success, we allow other things to speak into that. When we have a firm biblical view, when we want to be like Jesus, that will be a driving force behind how we shape our lives Make sure the people that you are surrounding yourself with are truth speakers and truth seekers. When you have Truth Speakers in your life, they will call you out in love, calling you to be better and holding you to a higher standard. They encourage our maturation in our walk with Christ. When you have a Truth Seeker in your life, their walk with God and pursuit of truth naturally push you to do the same. We should seek out friendships that push us to be more like Jesus.Paige ClingenpeelQuestions About the Podcast? So when you hear the word “theology,” what comes to mind? Does it inspire mental images of dusty libraries filled with massive books about God? Perhaps it makes you thing of grey-haired scholars using big, multi-syllabled words as they tryt to describe the Almighty? Well, I believe my conversation with Jenny Randle is going to change all that! The best type of theology doesn't leave a mental fog - instead, it helps us gain a greater understand of who God really is. Rather than bringing God down to our level, theology opens our hearts and elevates our minds so we come up to His. Today they discuss the foundation Christian worldview. Theology is something that should be accessible to every Christian. Welcome to the Love Where You Are podcast! In today's episode I am joined with Jenny Randle and Brayden Brookshier. Brayden and Jenny each married a sibling of the Randle family, making them brother in law and sister in law but they are also kindred spirits in the world of theology, nerding out over all things God. They geeked out over theology so much that they wrote a book together called Flash Theology: A Visual Guide to Knowing and Enjoying God Brayden is on the Teaching Team at Newbreak Church, San Diego, is host of the "Adventures in Theology" podcast and is Professor of Biblical Greek at Horizon University. Jenny is an author and award winning editor who has dedicated herself to ministry and is currently working on her master's in theology at Asbury Theological Seminary. In today's conversation, Jenny, Brayden and I talk about destigmatizing that big word: theology. Theology can sound like something just for pastors and professors. Theology, however, simply means the study of God and as Christians we should be studying God! Jenny and Brayden help break down the ideas of what theology is, making it more accessible and relatable, and how to incorporate it into our daily lives and with our kids. Thank you for being here today. Now, let's dive into the conversation! You can connect with Jenny through instagram and her website. You can connect with Brayden through instragram and his podcast. You can buy their new book on Amazon! FAVORITE TAKE-AWAYS: *There seems to be a vague age parents think their kids will reach when they become "ready" for theological stuff. Instead, we should be encouraging and empowering our kids through open questions and discussion about who God is and helping them form their understanding of Him for themselves. We have to trust God with our kids and trust our kids with God. *Bible illiteracy is a growing problem among Christians and non-Christians. Brayden sees this with a positive outlook, as an opportunity to help train people in the right mindset as opposed to re-training an old, flawed minset about who God is. *Where are we getting our theology? Church, friends, social media? We have to vet all these thoughts and opinions through Scripture. REMEMBER: *Jesus looked at the heart of the matter. It is good to have head knowledge about God, but it is as equally important to have heart experiences with God. *Brayden says: Share as you grow, share as you go. Share and talk about God with your family, kids, friends, even though you're still learning. We are all still learning! We will never "arrive" at the finish line till we see God face to face, and that means we will always be growing and learning. *It is okay to admit you don't know the answer. It is okay to learn another person's beliefs and see where they're coming from. Search for the answers and love people where they're at. Connect with Somer! Stay connected to Somer and the Love Where You Are podcast through her Facebook & Instagram! Now, go love where you are and live on mission for Jesus today.

One does not nullify the other.
