The Indiscriminate News Network: Unveiling the Energy ChessboardPower Plays in the Iraqi Oil ArenaWelcome, global citizens, to another riveting episode of The Indiscriminate News Network. I'm Jason, your geopolitical navigator, and today, we're diving into the high-stakes game of energy diplomacy. Buckle up, because this isn't your average oil spill. The White House PreludeJason: Picture this: the White House buzzes with anticipation. Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kadhimi, Iraq's seasoned chess player, steps onto the grand stage. His mission? To fortify Iraq's energy independence from Iran. And guess who's waiting in the wings? Five U.S. firms—Chevron Corp, Honeywell International Inc, Baker Hughes Co, General Electric Co, and Stellar Energy. They've inked agreements worth a staggering $8 billion with Iraq's ministers of oil and electricity. So, how does this energy ballet unfold?Segment 2: The Energy GambitJason: Let's decode the moves:Chevron Corp: Their playbook? Boost Iraq's oil production. Think pipelines, refineries, and black gold flowing like poetry.Honeywell International Inc: They're whispering smart grids, efficient power plants, and a dash of futuristic magic.Baker Hughes Co: Their drill bits? Like wands—tapping into Iraq's untapped reserves.General Electric Co: Picture turbines spinning, lighting up Baghdad's nights. They're the wizards of electricity.Stellar Energy: Their secret? Solar panels shimmering in the desert sun. Clean energy, meet ancient sands. But why Iraq? Because it's more than oil—it's a geopolitical chessboard. The Al-Kadhimi GambitPrime Minister al-Kadhimi strides into the White House, his pawns—oil prices, lockdowns, and protests—weighing heavy. His gambit? To reshape Iraq's destiny. And U.S. Energy Secretary Dan Brouillette? He's the oracle, predicting Iraq's energy future. His words echo: “Empowerment breeds expertise.”The Hidden MovesJason: But wait, there's more. Behind closed doors, whispers of national security dance with economic collaboration. Iraq's economy, battered by storms, seeks refuge. And these U.S. firms? They're not just selling widgets; they're weaving destiny. The Energy CheckmateSo, fellow strategists, watch the energy currents. Iraq's oil wells—once battlegrounds—are now bridges. And as al-Kadhimi leaves the White House, he carries more than contracts. He carries hope, sovereignty, and a nation's heartbeat.Until next time, this is Jason from The Indiscriminate News Network, signing off. Keep your eyes on the energy horizon, and may your moves be as calculated as a grandmaster's.-JasonTo Help Support this podcast use any of the links belowPay Pal DonationVenmo - @jason-Stclair-09262CashApp - $stclair316
Welcome, curious minds, to another riveting episode of The Indiscriminate New Network. I'm Jason, your guide through the labyrinth of global affairs. Today, we're donning our trade hats and diving into the heart of the Middle East—Iraq's trade partners. The Oil TitansPicture this: Iraq, the seventh-largest producer and exporter of oil worldwide. It's like the heavyweight champion of the black gold arena. Tip #1: Crude oil rules the roost, accounting for over 90% of Iraqi exports. But wait, there's more! Petroleum products strut their stuff, making up the rest of the export dance.[Sound of Oil Barrels Rolling] And why? Because Iraq's oil wells sing a symphony that echoes across continents. The Import JigsawJason: Now, let's peek behind the curtain. What does Iraq import? Gas and other gaseous hydrocarbons take center stage. Tubes and pipes waltz in, followed by electrical transformers and cars. It's like a bazaar where hydrocarbons and steel pipes haggle over tea.The Dance PartnersJason: Who's holding Iraq's hand on the global dance floor? Our main export partners are:United States: A quarter of our exports sail across the Atlantic.India: They've got a sweet tooth for Iraqi goods (14% of total exports).China: Their appetite for oil knows no bounds (12%).South Korea: They're grooving to our tunes (9%).[Global Beats] And let's not forget the extras: Italy, Japan, France, and Syria—they're all in the mix.The Trade HighwayJason: The Iraqi government's new trade policy? It's like building a highway from Baghdad to Cairo via Amman. We're talking about boosting trade relations between Iraq, Egypt, and Jordan. Imagine a caravan of goods rolling through deserts, connecting ancient cities. It's more than asphalt; it's diplomacy in motion. The Balancing ActJason: But—yes, there's a but—our trade tale isn't all sunshine and dates. The COVID-19 pandemic cast shadows. Insecurity, corruption, fragile institutions—they're like sandstorms on our trade route. Legal protections? Sometimes as elusive as a mirage. Structural reforms? Let's just say they're a work in progress. Conclusion: The Sands of TradeJason: So, fellow wanderers, Iraq's trade web is intricate, woven with ambition and challenges. We're investing in hydrocarbon export capacity, building ports in the Persian Gulf. But remember, every deal has its price. As the sun sets over Baghdad, let's toast to trade—where oil meets opportunity, and history whispers secrets.Jason: Until next time, this is Jason from The Indiscriminate New Network, signing off. Keep your eyes on the horizon, and may your trade winds be fair. Thanks For Listening Everyone! -JasonTo Help Support this podcast use any of the links belowPay Pal DonationVenmo - @jason-Stclair-09262CashApp - $stclair316

Some folks will swear that taking a nap is bad for you. “It'll throw off your circadian rhythm!” or “You're being lazy- maybe it's time to be more productive with your time!”. And of course, like many things in life, you could take it too far. For instance taking a nap while your friends are visiting or climbing in bed for 3 hours in the middle of the day will likely lead to poor outcomes- there will be negative downstream effects. But the reality is that a well-timed nap can bring a lot of benefits for many folks- it can boost your memory, increase your job performance, and ease your stress levels. Well, in the same way that naps are misunderstood, so is debt. Indiscriminate use of naps or debt could easily create a mess. But the strategic use of debt is an incredibly nuanced topic that we're venturing into. Today we discuss how you can determine if you're using debt strategically by looking at your finances holistically, how folks use debt as a crutch, why it's important to understand opportunity cost, evaluating your own personal debt tolerance, and much more! What's become clear to people paying attention to reality as it is, rather than the propaganda version most of us consume in the west, is the Israeli bombardment of Gaza is indiscriminate mainly to the extent that the plan is to destroy every building standing in the Gaza Strip. Otherwise, the killing and arrests have been very targeted, particularly aimed at people who are essential for the functioning of a society, such as hospital administrators, medical workers of all kinds, journalists, and their extended families. It is worth noting that targeted assassinations are nothing new for Israel.

That is not deceiving. What is deceiving is our interpretation based on assumptions, limited information, etc. So what I “know” isn't what always truly is. 2) Eyes being the windows to the soul is meant to say that we can read emotions and intentions in others eyes, regardless of what they say. However, I take this phrase literally. If I look into another's eyes and don't see or believe in a soul behind them, I just view them as another pile of matter. And while beauty being in the eyes of the beholder is meant to give the beholder the power of importing meaning and value, here I flip it to mean not that the power to import beauty is in the eyes of the beholder, but beauty actually lies behind the one beholding (or using their eyes to see). 3) The saying is really that “time remedies all ills.” However, the accrual of enough time is simply synonymous with death and destruction, as that is what eventually happens, and what is meant in the saying. In this section I flip the intended phrase by saying that death will cure the ills time will build, which opposes the common saying.[2] It's not really the looks of things that are deceiving. Everything that enters our eyes and senses is true. It's when it gets to our brain and our thoughts that things get twisted. If my mind is so good at twisting reality, even as the facts are right in front of me, how can I trust any assessment I make of “facts?”[3] So often the things I have “known” to be true ended up not being true. There's a tension between what I feel I know, and the knowledge that what I've “known” in the past has frequently been overturned because of my twisting of reality.[4] Physicalism has many moving away from notions of the soul, and other such spiritual concepts. When I look into another's eyes I'm just looking at a conglomeration of carbon and other elements. What my brain extracts and takes as knowledge is largely a social construct.[5] But if the eyes I look into are windowless, what of my eyes? If there's no beauty in the eyes of those I behold due to there being no soul, then I'm not really a beholder myself, as I have no soul. What then of beauty? And what then of the value of others, and of my own value? What then of essence? Do I become a machine moving along purely by the laws of physics? If eyes aren't windows to souls, there is no beauty because there's nobody who can discern it. It's a chemical construct.[6] Death is the great equalizer. For those who are suffering, death is a sweet respite from pain. For those who are evil and seemingly invincible, death will bring them low and overthrow them. It eventually cures all from pain and ends the rule of the wicked.[7] But this rain, this reign of death falls on both the just and the unjust.[8] Death may be the great equalizer, but it is also the cause for joy's cessation. It is not a respecter of persons. So it may cure some ills temporarily, or in the long run, but it is a great cause of many ills. Since we are all fallen creatures, it will never cure the world of ills for good, it simply affects all eventually. But as long as the world moves on, evil and suffering will abound. Death will never cure anything. It simply puts a time limit on it – both evil and suffering, as well as joy.[9] Death has no eyes. Since eyes are the window to the soul as stated before, it's made clear that death has no soul. There is no beauty there to behold. It is not a cure all or a quick fix.[10] When looking at death, it's the one moment I feel as though there's no discrepancy between what my eyes see and what truly is. Death is truth and reality. It's pure evil, lacking a soul, lacking goodness at all. It's the only thing I know that is real.[11] The particularly horrid aspect of death is that it is hauntingly clear. It approaches me every day, and waits at my doorstep and at the doorstep of those I love. It is so clearly evident. The one thing that is the embodiment of evil is the one thing I know with certainty and see with clarity. That will torture me until the day death cures me of my fear of it. The attack by Hamas on 7 October has changed the region and the world in ways that are still yet to be completely understood. In response to the attack, which killed over 1,400 Israelis, and took 200 hostage, Israel has unleashed a brutal and indiscriminate campaign of airstrikes. So far, thousands of Palestinians have been killed. This week on The New Arab Voice, we look at Hamas' attack, why they decided to attack, what they hoped to achieve, the Israelis intelligence failings that allowed for the attack, how Israel is responding, the war crimes being committed today, and what war crimes might be committed in the future. Joining us to discuss Hamas' attack and what it means for Israel and the Israeli response in Gaza, we speak with Joost Hiltermann (@JoostHiltermann) the program director for the Middle East in North Africa, at the International Crisis Group (@CrisisGroup); and Lara Friedman (@LaraFriedmanDC) the President of the Foundation for Middle East Peace (@FMEP).You can sign up to our newsletter here. The international rules of war, also known as the laws of armed conflict or international humanitarian law, are a set of regulations and principles designed to mitigate the impact of armed conflict on civilians and combatants and promote humanitarian treatment during times of war. These rules are primarily outlined in four key sources:The Geneva Conventions (1949): The four Geneva Conventions are at the core of international humanitarian law. They provide protections for wounded and sick soldiers, prisoners of war, and civilians in times of armed conflict. They establish rules for the humane treatment of individuals who are no longer taking part in hostilities.Additional Protocols to the Geneva Conventions (1977): These two protocols, known as Protocol I and Protocol II, expand upon and update the provisions of the Geneva Conventions. Protocol I relates to international armed conflicts, while Protocol II relates to non-international armed conflicts.Hague Conventions (1899 and 1907): These conventions focus on the means and methods of warfare, including restrictions on the use of certain weapons and tactics. They also address the treatment of civilians and combatants who fall into the hands of an enemy.Customary International Humanitarian Law: This body of law consists of long-standing practices and customary rules that have evolved over time and are considered binding on all parties in armed conflicts. The fundamental principles of the international rules of war include:Distinction: Parties to the conflict must distinguish between combatants and civilians, and only target combatants and military objectives. Indiscriminate attacks and attacks that cause excessive harm to civilians are prohibited.Proportionality: The use of force must be proportionate to the military objective. Excessive or disproportionate force that harms civilians or their property is illegal.Precaution: Parties must take all feasible precautions to minimize harm to civilians and civilian objects. This includes giving advance warnings of attacks when possible and taking care to avoid unnecessary civilian casualties.Prohibition of Certain Weapons: The use of certain weapons, such as chemical and biological weapons, anti-personnel landmines, and cluster munitions, is restricted or banned under international law.Treatment of Captured Combatants: Captured combatants must be treated humanely, without torture or cruel treatment. Prisoners of war must have their rights protected, as outlined in the Geneva Conventions.Protection of the Wounded and Sick: The wounded and sick must receive medical care and protection, regardless of their affiliation. Medical personnel and facilities must be respected and protected.Protection of Civilians: Civilians must be protected from harm, and attacks on civilian populations are prohibited.Accountability: Violations of the international rules of war can lead to legal consequences for individuals and states responsible, including prosecutions by international tribunals.(commercial at 10:09)to contact me:bobbycapucci@protonmail.comThis show is part of the Spreaker Prime Network, if you are interested in advertising on this podcast, contact us at https://www.spreaker.com/show/5080327/advertisement

The Indiscriminate Casting of Grace - Sermon 07-16-2023 by St. Simons Presbyterian Podcast
The United States sent cluster munitions to Ukraine, bombs banned by 123 countries due to how they kill and maim indiscriminately over a wide area and for years after a conflict. This week on Intercepted, Marc Garlasco — the military adviser at PAX, a Dutch nongovernmental organization where he works to protect civilians in armed conflict, joins Jeremy Scahill and Murtaza Hussain to discuss how cluster munitions kill civilians during war and long after, and why their use — even by the United States — should be considered a war crime. If you'd like to support our work, go to theintercept.com/join — your donation, no matter what the amount, makes a real difference. And if you haven't already, please subscribe to the show so you can hear it every week. We want to retaliate against and resist those who interfere with our desires because we assume that violence solves problems. Jesus's call to self-sacrificial love must override and restrain our instinct for retaliation. Since love means “to will the good of another,” we can't perpetrate violence against someone and love them at the same time.
solution. It must undoubtedly be admitted that all of God's cognition is immediate intuition, and that he can neither have nor need any deductive process by which to reach truth. But does it follow therefrom that he has no intuitions of relations-- Let the reader reflect that many of our surest intuitions are of truths of relation, as of the equality of two magnitudes of which each is equal to a third and the same- that a multitude of things which exist do exist in relation- and that it is the very glory and perfection of God's intelligence that it thinks every thing with an absolute faithfulness to the reality known by him. He will not be rash enough to question the fact that among God's infinite cognitions are a multitude of intuitions of truths in relation.

Contributor: Jared Scott, MD Educational Pearls: Elevated lactate levels can be a useful indicator of critical illness in patients who meet SIRS criteria Lactate can also be elevated due to other causes including seizures and medications such as albuterol and metformin A recent study from Switzerland* performed routine point-of-care lactate testing in all elderly patients presenting at triage in the emergency department in order to determine the prevalence of elevated lactate in the population and its utility in predicting poor patient outcomes Patients with seizure as their chief complaint were excluded from the study due to expected transient elevated lactate levels Poor outcomes were defined as requiring extensive IVF and/orvasoactive medications, undergoing intubation, admission to the ICU, or death 27.1% of patients had an increased lactate but only 7.3% actually met poor outcome criteria ED physicians should note that an increased lactate in an elderly patient does not mean that they are critically ill Routine point-of-care lactate monitoring at triage is of limited usefulness and should instead be targeted towards those who meet critical illness criteria *Errata: This study was performed in Switzerland, not Sweden as was stated in the podcast References Gosselin M, Mabire C, Pasquier M, et al.
