This week news of records being broken in the hunting and fishing world, we share the latest details for the upcoming NFR when Las Vegas turns into Rodeo Vegas plus tips to host hassle-free. This is Rebecca Wanner aka 'BEC' and Jeff ‘Tigger' Erhardt with the radio show The Bend Radio Show & Podcast, your news outlet for the latest in the Outdoors & Western Lifestyle! Episode 156 Details If rifle deer hunting has started in your neck of the woods, it will be soon. Time to pull out your trusty deer rifle and dust off your cobwebs by sighting in both the firearm and sharpen your skills. If you already have taken some shots, dialed in that scope earlier when it was warm; remember it is very important to do so again in the temperature and humidity that you will be hunting. We want everyone prepared and ready to have a memorable successful hunt! NEWS BOWHUNTER TAGS WORLD RECORD VELVET BULL MOOSE After five years of buying raffle tickets for the North American Game Warden Museum's moose tag, Trace Armstrong of Rolette, North Dakota actually won the coveted grand prize tag! Now the hunt was on to find a trophy bull to fill this winning Moose tag. A trophy is an understatement for what Armstrong drew his bow for on August 31st, 2023. Armstrong released his arrow at 35 yards to take down a 1,700lb Canadian bull moose still in velvet that has been green scored by an official Pope & Young representative at 173 4/8 inches and with a net score of 16 6/8th inches. The bull will be scored again after October 31st, for the dried rack requirement and if stays close to the green score it is speculated to top the Pope & Young record book which would make it the new World Record Velvet Bull Moose! Head to TheBendShow.com to see this massive beautiful trophy bull! Congrats again to Trace Armstrong! MASSIVE BLUE MARLIN SMASHES GULF OF MEXICO RECORDS Dreaming about heading south to warmer waters and partaking in some deep-sea fishing? Recently, Texas angler Scooter Anderson did just that launching out of Alabama on a 55-foot Viding offshore boat. Anderson landed an officially weighed and measured 12-foot, 1,145-pound Blue Marlin that shames not just Alabama records but all Gulf of Mexico State Records! NFR After-Party Announces Entertainment Lineup & New Location The most anticipated after party of the NFR, hosted annually by Rodeo Vegas, is ringing in its 20th Anniversary with Country Music Stars Justin Moore, Corey Kent, Chayce Beckham and more at its new home, Rodeo Vegas's new location will be part of Resorts World Las Vegas. Rodeo World Las Vegas will also be hosting the BFO, Bullfighters Only World Champsionships at Resorts World Las Vegas! HOSTING FAMILY & FRIENDS HASSLE FREE Take it from BEC, don't fret about volunteering to host that next gathering or if you are someone who's always wanted to do so. The stress is what we put on ourselves, and our guests are just happy to be invited! Here are BEC's tips for keeping it fun, cost-effective, and stress-free! Guest List: In this day in age, it is completely okay to create a Facebook Event and invite this way. It's highly recommended as almost everyone has at least one member in their household with a Facebook account. This then can be used for last-minute details, as well as used to build up the excitement for the date. Location: If your home is a disarray, that's okay! BEC uses her heated shop for fall gatherings. A bathroom is cleaned in the house near the door, but there are never any complaints about hanging out in a big open space like a shop or garage. FOOD: As the host, find one of your favorite recipes that can be made ahead of time that covers the “Main Dish”. BEC & Tigger always make Tigger's Ranchers Chili. It is a hit with everyone! Then say in your invite to bring a side to share! BEC leans towards main dishes that can be kept warm in a crockpot or roaster, ready to serve or be enjoyed at any time. DRINKS: Make it BYOB (Bring Your Own Beverage) and have a case of water or two on hand. This way there's no headache in making sure everyone is covered. Have a bag of ice handy for an ice bucket and you are good to go! SERVING FOOD: Cover all the counters or workbenches with inexpensive throwaway table coverings. Typically only a couple of dollars. Have paper plates, napkins, and plastic silverware for easy cleanup. ENJOY THE TIME spent with the ones you love! GIFT IDEAS Another beautiful piece written and read by Richelle Barrett the author, photographer and rancher from northern Montana, known as The Prairie Crocus. In time for the holidays, we recommend ordering her latest inspirational coffee table book “Anthology” filled with beautiful thoughts and photos of the rural way of life. Available now at Prairie-Crocus.com. Be sure to follow her on Facebook too @ThePrairieCrocus. WESTERN STYLE Looking for the latest in Western fashion and style? Medora Boot and Western Wear keep both Tigger & BEC in the boots they love, the jeans that fit, and the latest styles of shirts, jackets, and more. Just six years ago, Corey Kent was a broke college graduate, renting out half of a room to save money, eating the same meal every day of the week. His dream was to make a living as a musician without selling out. Now, most country music fans know Corey's name and his platinum record speaks for itself. But what you don't know is that Corey fueled his music career thanks to a handful of properties he bought years ago. Corey's side project real estate portfolio allowed him to launch his music career, make passive income when times got tough, and fall on his feet when the world was shut down. Corey was looking to invest in property at just seventeen years old, but when a bank turned him away, he had to change his entire mindset and learn the personal finance game from a very early age. After his grandfather taught him the do's and don'ts of buying raw land, Corey slowly built his real estate portfolio. At this time, Corey was below the poverty line, sleeping in his truck and saving whatever money he could to invest. He continued to buy property, EVEN when times were tight, successfully using his passive income to help him leapfrog into later becoming a chart-topping musician who now can follow his one true passion. In This Episode We Cover: Investing in real estate when you have low (or no) credit Buying land and the rule of thumb that Corey ALWAYS follows before he invests Corey's “side project” passive real estate portfolio that helps pay for his lifestyle How one rental property saved Corey's family when the lockdowns began Why real estate DOESN'T need to be your passion to build passive income And So Much More! We welcome back Singer-Songwriter, Country Rocker and friend to the show to introduce his new music to his growing legion of fans! It's a story of his journey discovering himself and his sound as a musician. Labeled a "Fresh Find" by Texas Music Pickers, Palmer's music has been streamed over a million times and been featured on playlists such as Spotify's Texas Country Now, Fresh Finds Country and New Music Nashville. He has brought his rowdy and energetic show to all corners of the country touring with the likes of Kolby Cooper, Pecos & the Rooftops, Corey Kent, Cody Hibbard and more; and at 24, he's just getting started. Palmer Anthony is a singer-songwriter and musician based out of Fort Worth, TX. A kid from the West, Palmer grew up playing baseball, football and basketball and spent his summers pouring concrete. At the age of 14 he picked up the guitar and began self-teaching himself country songs he had heard around the house from his dad's cassette player; however only to a recreational degree. Upon graduating high school he entered college at the University of California, Santa Barbara to play baseball and there, in the bustling beach community, began to find comfort again in the genre of Country Music; as it reminded him of home. Palmer began writing his own lyrics in his first year of college and soon fell in love with the craft of songwriting. So much so that after a solo trip to Lubbock, TX and soon after to Nashville, TN in his second year of college, he decided that's what he wanted to do. After graduating in two and a half years, Palmer packed his bags in April of 2017 without knowing a soul in town, and headed back to Fort Worth to try his hand at the Country Music industry. Since then Palmer has been produced by the likes of three-time Grammy Award-winning producer Jacquire King (Kings of Leon, Niall Horan, Shawn Mendes etc.) and Scott Faris (Flatland Cavalry, Randall King). He's been selected as a "Fresh Find" by Texas Music Pickers, has played festivals, clubs, dive bars, and opened for acts such as the Kolby Cooper, Pecos & the Rooftops and Josh Ward. His singles have amassed over 1 million streams and his debut album set to be released in Spring of 2022, mixes his roots of traditional Texas-style instrumentation and lyricism with a modern flare. Corey Kent is a singer/songwriter who released his latest single "Wild As Her" in early 2022. Corey joins Country Music Made Me to discuss the hard-working principles passed down through the generations from his Great Grandfather that continue to help guide him through his journey, the early musical experiences at the Oklahoma State Fair and Cain's Ballroom that created a unique musical spark within him, and what he learned during his years fronting the Western Swing band Oklahoma Stomp during his teens. Corey and Brendan talk about the life changing moment when he was welcomed to sing on stage with Willie Nelson, how he was able to chase a career in music while at the same time earning a business degree from Oklahoma State, and what he learned during his early years in Nashville. Corey explains how difficult it was to navigate 2020 as an up-and-coming independent artist, the live changing moments that happened while on tour with the likes of Parker McCollum, Randy Rogers, Aaron Watson, Kolby Cooper and Cody Johnson in 2021, and how this year is setting up to be his biggest yet with the early success of his new single "Wild As Her".
