The Jay Franze Show: Your backstage pass to the entertainment industry
A live-sung medley that actually left us breathless. That's how Lainey Wilson opened a CMA night that felt tighter, braver, and more fun than it's been in years—and yes, she backed it up with Entertainer of the Year, Album of the Year, and Female Vocalist. We talk about why her solo hosting worked, how she commanded the stage with eight outfit changes, and what her wins say about where country music is heading. We dig into performances that sparked debate, especially Chris Stapleton solo versus his duet with Miranda Lambert—great song, flawless execution, but does it fit either brand? The Red Clay Strays brought harmonies that surprised us with an Arctic Monkeys vibe, raising a bigger question about identity: when southern bands don't claim “country,” yet chart on country formats, is that healthy expansion or a nudge to fit the market? Along the way, we celebrate pros who hold the scene together—Paul Franklin's Musician of the Year nod and a heartfelt tribute to Vince Gill's mentorship and humility. Then we zoom out. Are labels signing too many TikTok artists who can't deliver live? How much do charts really matter now—less for artists, more for songwriters? We compare A-players in the studio to road bands on tour, why some artists are skipping the “Nashville session” model, and how remote recording and AI risk eroding that full-room magic where eight players breathe together. You'll also hear a lively news round-up, a chart countdown, candid listener mailbag on genre blending and economics, and a hilarious community game: ruin a band name by changing one letter. According to multiple outlets including 97okk.com and American Songwriter, Post Malone's Nashville bar, Posty's, is offering free Thanksgiving meals to on-duty, uniformed first responders from Wednesday, November 26, through Friday, November 28. The gesture was widely praised by fans and the community, with many expressing gratitude for the support shown to those who work during the holidays. Post Malone opened Posty's Bar in early October, and the move has further cemented his connection to Nashville's creative scene.Post Malone also made a splash at the CMA Awards on November 19, taking home his first-ever CMA Award for musical event of the year for his collaboration “Pour Me a Drink” with Blake Shelton. His album F-1 Trillion was nominated for album of the year but lost to Lainey Wilson's Whirlwind. On Thanksgiving Day, Post Malone is set to perform the halftime show at the Dallas Cowboys game against the Kansas City Chiefs at AT&T Stadium, a major platform for his music. He's also teaming up with the Dallas Cowboys and The Salvation Army to launch the 135th Red Kettle Campaign, a tradition that brings national attention to charitable giving.Post Malone's BIG ASS Stadium Tour continues to draw crowds, with the Las Vegas stop at Allegiant Stadium on May 3, 2025, already selling tickets. The CMAs tried to be everything at once: a celebration of country's roots, a launchpad for rising acts, and a glossy TV moment with crossover appeal. We sat down after watching every minute (twice) and cut through the noise with a blunt, song-first breakdown of what actually worked, what didn't, and why the fans' reality isn't showing up on stage. We start with Lainey Wilson's capable hosting and a performance that sparked debate about image and song fit. Then we zero in on the music: Chris Stapleton's band-first power, Zach Top's classic-country momentum, Red Clay Strays' raw charisma, and Stephen Wilson Jr.'s singular style. Kenny Chesney's thoughtful tribute to Brett James reminded us what sincerity looks like on a big stage, while a disco-styled duet left us wondering how a concept can eclipse the song. We also grapple with the Vince Gill tribute choice—how to honor an icon with the right voices and the right feel. The conversation keeps coming back to scale and stakes. If Entertainer of the Year is about ticket sales, streaming impact, and cultural reach, fans know who they're crowning. We talk candidly about the Morgan Wallen-sized gap between stadium reality and awards-night narrative, why certain categories feel hollow, and how the business can champion bands and vocal groups without blurring what those categories mean. Along the way, we call out who likely played live, where production helped or hurt, and which artists have “a thing” that cuts through. If you want a no-spin tour through the night's highs, lows, and head-scratchers—plus a grounded take on where country music is actually headed—this episode is your companion piece to the broadcast. Hit play, then tell us what we got right, where we're nuts, and who your real Entertainer of the Year is. If you're into honest country talk, subscribe, share with a friend, and leave a review so more fans can find the show. The Try That in a Small Town Podcast is powered by e|spaces! Post Malone BioSnap a weekly updated Biography.Post Malone has been making major headlines over the past several days, with a series of high-profile moves that underscore his momentum in both country music and mainstream pop culture. The biggest story centers on his upcoming halftime performance for the Dallas Cowboys Thanksgiving Day game against the Kansas City Chiefs, airing live November 27 on CBS. For Malone, a Texas native and lifelong Cowboys fan, this marks his debut at the Red Kettle Kickoff with The Salvation Army, a nationally televised tradition now in its 29th year. He has emphasized repeatedly in statements to outlets like Dallas CultureMap and CBS Sports that participating is “a real honor” for him, tying personal pride to the charitable impact of the campaign. The performance is coordinated as part of a jam-packed NFL Thanksgiving entertainment slate, featuring fellow icons Jack White and Lil Jon at other games throughout the day, as reported by American Songwriter and NFL.com.Alongside his much-anticipated live appearance, Post Malone has revealed a new single, “Cold,” featuring BigXThaPlug, set for release on Friday, November 21. Country Central and Malone's own Instagram have previewed a track blending country-pop and trap—with a music video shot on a ranch, capturing the Texas vibe of both artists. This is interpreted by insiders as a definitive signal that Malone intends to stay positioned in the country music space following recent successes.Adding to his musical accolades, Malone won his first Country Music Award on November 20, claiming Musical Event of the Year alongside Blake Shelton. He was also nominated for Album of the Year for “F-1 Trillion,” cementing his crossover credentials, although that top honor ultimately went to Lainey Wilson, according to CNY Central.Social media has been lively with mentions of Post, including viral posts noting his stop at a Circle K gas station in Aberdeen on November 17, as shared by the store's district manager. He also posted a buzzworthy Instagram photo of himself with notably short hair on November 20, drawing attention from The Hollywood Reporter and fans commenting on his refreshed look.Business-wise, there have been no new product launches or visible ventures this week, per Spreaker, but recent activities in his entrepreneurial portfolio were highlighted, including a Raising Cane's collaboration and previous limited edition Oreo cookies. Net worth estimates remain robust, landing near 90 million according to JHU Innovations and finance-monthly. Finally, Randy Houser credited partying with Post Malone as the inspiration behind his new song “Back in the Bottle,” indicating Malone's influence as a creative collaborator even when he's not in the headlines directly. All told, Malone's ongoing news cycle demonstrates not only his musical evolution but also his cultural prominence, from the country charts to viral moments and national holidays.Get the best deals https://amzn.to/3ODvOtaThis content was created in partnership and with the help of Artificial Intelligence AI
