Welcome to a special edition of The Jake's Take with Jacob Elyachar Podcast! Today, we welcome D'Andre McKenzie to the podcast!   A Lee's Summit, Missouri native, D'Andre McKenzie began his career as a Defensive Back (jersey number 29) for the University of Missouri Tigers football team.  After graduating with a double bachelor's degree in mass communication + Media Studies and English, D'Andre worked as an actor in the Kansas City metropolitan area before relocating to New York City.  In 2023, D'Andre made his Reality TV debut on Netflix's Squid Game: The Challenge's first season. He wore the 288 jersey in hopes of beating out 455 other players to win the show's prize of $4.56 million, the largest prize in TV competition history. While he survived in the inaugural game of “Red Light, Green Light,” he made it into the dormitory.  Sadly, his luck ran out when his group failed to reach a unanimous consensus during the Dalgona challenge.  Also in 2023, D'Andre McKenzie started the Way Network and The D'Andre Way. He covered major events such as the NFL Draft, the WNBA Draft, and the NBA Playoffs. His presence enhanced fan experiences at games and events by inserting them into the conversation surrounding the experience. A cookie to die for? Certainly a project to die for!Fortunately, no one was ACTUALLY harmed in the making or consuming of these Squid Game Dalgona cookies, as Brandt and the Tastehead team talk us through one of the most exciting, and challenging development projects yet. As the biggest trending show on Netflix of 2023, you can imagine the excitement in the team opening the email brief - to develop and make the actual dalgona cookies to be used in the biggest reality game show ever made, Squid Game: The Challenge. In this episode, Brandt is joined by the team behind bringing the dalgona cookies to the contestant's hands and your screens; Lucy, Tastehead project manager, Eaman, senior development chef and Paddy, junior development chef. For Hawaii's Pashyn Santos and Allison Chu, competing in the Netflix series “Squid Game: The Challenge” was unlike anything they've ever done. Out of some 90,000 applicants from around the world, Santos and Chu were both chosen to be in a cast of 456 people vying for a chance to win $4.56 million. Santos — a writer, actress and comedian — was player 368. Meanwhile, Chu — former Miss Hawaii and Miss Hawaii USA — was player 274. Spoiler alert: Both girls got eliminated after the Dalgona round of the competition. In that round, contestants must carefully carve a specific shape out of a honeycomb-like candy without breaking it. They chose between a circle, triangle, star and the most challenging — the umbrella. Ultimately, both Chu and Santos ended up in the umbrella line. Despite leaving the show early on, they said it was an experience they would never forget, and they were happy to make Hawaii proud. We don't really keep up with the latest food trends on TikTok, but for this episode of Three Kitchens Podcast Sarah decided to give one of these recipes a whirl. She tried the trending recipe, Dalgona Coffee, and to make this a proper breakfast, she also made Pesto Eggs over Sourdough Bread.   Dalgona coffee is a beverage made by whipping equal parts instant coffee powder, sugar, and hot water until it becomes creamy and then adding it to cold or hot milk.  Sarah added a shot of Bailey's Irish Cream to cold almond milk and topped it with the whipped coffee. And wow, was it good! Pesto Eggs are as simple as they sound, but cooking the eggs in pesto of your choice elevates a simple plate of eggs and bread to a dish worthy of serving to your brunch guests. Offer it up along with that super special Dalgona Coffee and they'll be asking for seconds.
