Is it hot in here or is it just us? If you're in the throes of perimenopause, you're going to feel right at home in this episode. As ladies of our mid-40s, we have to talk about this. Disclaimer: This is NOT a medical advice podcast. Thanks to overt sexism within medical research fields, most health research funds are allotted to study diseases that affect men, or how diseases that affect both sexes mostly affect men. The National Institutes of Health found that diseases, ailments and conditions that affect men receive twice as much funding as those affecting women. Therefore, it would be correct to say scientists are spending much more time and resources studying erectile dysfunction than perimenopause or menopause, leaving women woefully unprepared and under-resourced for this major life change. How do we deal with that? Well, we're resourceful as always, aren't we ladies? We turn to crowd-sourcing solutions like TikTok and Facebook groups and happy hours. Which means we wind up with a slew of solutions like yam cream, red light therapy, eating more kiwis and drinking mushroom coffee. Will any of it help? Who knows! We'll try it anyhow because dammit, we want to look like we're aging gracefully while also biohacking our faces. We want to hear from you. Do you have a story we need to discuss or a guest we should feature? Visit us at ToxicThePodcast.com and share your story. (We also have some sweet merch!) If you're experiencing abuse or domestic violence, please reach out to someone you trust. You can also connect with a trained advocate near you through DomesticShelters.org. Finally, help us keep this conversation going. Share an episode of Toxic with a friend (or maybe a frenemy?), your eyebrow waxer, your petsitter or really, anyone you want. Kathy and Philippa review the film Tár, a psychological drama featuring the queen of acting, Cate Blanchett. The film centers around Lydia Tár (Cate Blanchett), widely considered one of the greatest living composer-conductors and the very first female director of a major German orchestra. Lydia's life unravels after being accused of misconduct. Tár is full of subtleties, assumptions, and unfinished scenes (in Kathy's opinion). Tune in and discover why Philippa liked it, why Kathy couldn't figure out what was happening, and what they both thought about the film overall (you could say they are the lesbian Siskel and Ebert). TW: This episode has conversations about apartheid, racism, trauma and generational trauma.Welcome to this episode of The Good Girl Confessional Podcast, where we delve into transformative stories of resilience and healing.Today, we explore the remarkable journey of Beryl Crosher-Segers, a woman whose life story is a testament to the power of perseverance and self-discovery. Beryl's journey begins in the oppressive environment of apartheid-era South Africa, where racial segregation dictated every aspect of life. Growing up as a child in a world divided starkly along racial lines, Beryl experienced the harsh realities of discrimination and deprivation. Her father's East Indian heritage and her mother's Portuguese and Mozambican roots placed her in a unique and challenging position within South Africa's racial hierarchy. Despite the obstacles, Beryl's mother fought valiantly for her children's education, recognizing it as the key to escaping the cycle of poverty and injustice. This determination to overcome adversity led Beryl to Australia, where she embraced a new life of freedom and opportunity. In Australia, Beryl thrived, building a successful career in the events industry and contributing significantly to major cultural and sporting events. However, her success did not shield her from the deep-seated trauma of her past. The release of her memoir, A Darker Shade of Pale, stirred old wounds and ignited a backlash of hate and vitriol, plunging Beryl into a period of profound personal crisis.Struggling with panic attacks and severe anxiety, Beryl faced the daunting task of confronting her past traumas. Through dedicated therapy, including Shamanic Healing, she began the arduous process of healing. Her journey wasn't without setbacks; the road to recovery was marred by intense emotional and psychological battles. Yet, with resilience and support, Beryl emerged with a renewed sense of purpose. Her subsequent books, Behind My Smile and Living With Purpose, reflect her profound journey from pain to peace. They offer readers not only a glimpse into her struggles but also practical wisdom on finding tranquility amidst life's chaos. In this episode, we delve into Beryl's extraordinary story of healing and transformation. Her experience teaches us that true inner peace comes not from escaping the world's chaos but from finding serenity within ourselves. One of the biggest challenges we all can face, as we approach the end of Lent, is to embrace the act of forgiveness. For us to get our SALT back and live a life of abundance in all five areas of life -body, mind, finances, family, and community-, we need to learn to forgive ourselves for all the unspoken burdens we carry around. This is why in this podcast episode we talk about the importance of forgiving oneself first to be able to embrace the present and the bright future we have in front of us. In this episode: - Why is forgiving oneself such a difficult but necessary act? - How Lent is inviting us to connect with God by diving deep into our story and asking for forgiveness. - How to start forgiving yourself for the mistakes of your past so they don't hold back your future. Join Karaleigh in an interview with the vibrant Alison Fraser. In this episode we talk about shining too brightly, showing up comfortably as you are, finding balance in motherhood, and of course we get some fun, real mom talk. Alison is a journalist, a communications professional and podcaster who helps other podcasters make their show what they want it to be. She is also a parkrunner and quizzer living in New Zealand as well as a mum of one. Favorite takeaways: 1. We've got to own who we are and love ourselves for it and stop caring so much what other people think. 2. We're not static! We get to grow! It's such a gift that we get to continue to improve and shift and transform and become a new, better, version of ourselves constantly. 3. We get to look back on our year and look at how far we've come and then we get to look ahead and ask, how much further do I get to go? It's easy to look at our goals and say, I'm not where I want to be. But instead we could look at them with excitement. There's a whole new version of me just waiting to blossom. 4. I see it as a privilege to change and to grow. 5. You can live your dreams. You can do incredible things with your life! Anything is possible and it doesn't matter how tough your circumstances are, anything is possible. 6. We can do hard things. We can persevere, we can figure it out. We can keep going even when challenges come our way because we are strong and we are powerful. 7. You are valuable because you are unique. In this episode of Walking on Feathers, Medium Kareen interviews Rebecca Wilson as they discuss spiritual barriers to authentic expression of self, awakening to who you really are, and manifestation. Many barriers mentioned relate specifically to women, and a woman's struggle to value oneself based off what they do or what others say about them. Many women, as moms and wives, struggle to find their place and find happiness and spiritual peace about calling. Kareen and Rebecca, though, offer freeing truths and spiritual guidance on how to wake up to the truth of who you really are, how to teach yourself to feel emotions throughout the day, and how to understand that those emotions do not define who you are in spirit or in being.Their discussion continues to the practice of manifestation and one's ability to free one's soul from spiritual resistance. Rebecca and Kareen help listeners overcome the spiritual and life challenges that keep one from reaching the life they envision and truly have the ability to manifest. If you have any guest suggestions for the podcast, please send their information to Medium Kareen via email to mediumkareen@gmail.com. “We all are on a journey to becoming more aware of our [mental] programs, and it looks different for everyone.” -Medium Kareen Medium Kareen Website and Social Media Information: www.mediumkareen.com Instagram: https://instagram.com/mediumkareen?igshid=Zjc2ZTc4Nzk= TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@mediumkareen YouTube: https://m.youtube.com/channel/UCDgvAzxdI_NJzs89NO_bxEg Pinterest: https://pin.it/6D26Am7Rebecca Wilson Website and Social Media Information:www.rebeccawilson.netInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/manifestation.mamma/
