In this episode of the FanGirlHour, I chat with my good friend, KJ, about how the movies & story-telling of Kevin Smith has been a life-long influence on his creative output and his overall outlook on life. He shares some of his most influential moments bonding with others over Kevin Smith films, including his wife & shares how this fandom has influenced his outreach for artists of many a variety. KJ has been a theatre professional for much of his career, including as a youth drama teacher, lighting designer, technical director and stage manager. While at home in stage tech and leadership positions, he also enjoys performing. His other interests include writing poetry and playing hand drums in local bands and at church. A former teacher, KJ has launched Artists Happy Hour in support of a new non-profit, Talent Pool, where our creative interests can develop through mentoring. KJ supports Randall Theatre/Ghostlight Playhouse, Backyard Community Food Court, Rockafairy, and collaborates with the local independent film and stand-up comedy scenes. None of this would be possible without the support of his wife and 2 kids, and a very talented group of close friends. Mr Daniel Lowe examines the ingredients which encourage unity amongst believers. Philippians 2 vs 1 - 11
We meet our next guest, Daniel Lowe in his home up a beautiful suburban Atlanta Street. He's got this really cool kind of super dark charcoal, gray painted house, architecturally and the color looks cool and you know that there's a creative person inside here. And sure enough Daniel's got that cool filmmaker hip looking vibe we set up in his kind a living room office crack open the jar. Daniel is a small town kid from Virginia. He describes his childhood growing up. With that tough love father, and looking back now kind of realizing the impact that had on him. His early journey to Atlanta, to get a job, get out of the family business, away from his father and his influence, and in the end, he realize it was exactly that he was running away from things not towards things, and that's had a big impact on his life. So he's turned that corner a while ago, and really got himself into the filmmaking side and knowing what he wants to do and back after a journey into Atlanta and now chasing what he wants and not running from stuff. He shares that relationship with his dad and really it sounds difficult, and even in the end with the terminal illness pending he and his father couldn't have that conversation how he wanted it but seemingly his dad just was never prepared for it and maybe it was too much for his dad to really have that conversation. Daniel's story is a really powerful one, with some tough moments and great lessons. It's super to see somebody find what they want to run towards it, but to also lean into the tough things instead of running away.Check out Daniel's website: videogeorgia.comFor behind the scenes content of the making of The Jar, meet the guests, see some footage of unreleased podcast episodes and more visit : https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCaTqB1dhDvl0Oh505ysdxTgTo be a guest on the show email us at thejarguest@gmail.com or visit our webpage : https://www.thejar.live/Follow The Jar on Instagram : https://www.instagram.com/thejar_podcast/Follow The Jar on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/podcast.thejarDisclaimer: The views stated in this episode are our guest's opinions and do not represent the views, beliefs or opinions of The Jar Podcast. Humans are inherently social creatures. For centuries we've learnt to survive, adapt and overcome through collaboration and unity. Medicine, in particular, highlights the value of taking input from multiple specialities and healthcare professionals to optimise patient care. However, with the power of modern technology, does this collaboration need to be confined to a single hospital? Why shouldn't we collaborate with experts from around the world? Intersurgeon.org aims to establish a new paradigm to ensure the standard of clinical care is high no matter the setting. By harnessing the knowledge of over 600 specialities worldwide, this free service drives the pursuit of equitable and safe surgery. Join us as we dive deeper into the work of Paediatric Neurosurgeon Dr James “Jim” Johnston, co-founder of Intersurgeon with Guest Host Daniel Lowe a passionate Medical Student from Australia as we discuss how to facilitate regional LMIC collaboration and the value of ‘coral reef' networking.
Health systems are sick. Around the world gaining access to necessary surgical treatment can be difficult due to inadequate healthcare infrastructures but also due to imbalanced care across demographics. Women across the globe often struggle to gain equal access to healthcare and maternity services - and not just access, but high quality care. The issue extends far past the surgeon in the operating room. It is the break in health systems, the procedures being performed, and the surgical outcomes. This is where Dr Salome Maswime and her team are trying to chart a new course for maternal health. Join us as we talk about the importance of playing a role in healthcare access, regardless of how big or small that may be. We can all play a role in helping to provide safe, comprehensive quality care for everyone around the world. In a period plagued by a pandemic, this requires innovative and out-of-the-box thinking to tackle key issues like providing gynecological services when it isn’t really practical to do vital health services such as virtual maternal check ups. The question is, will you be the next innovator to expand care?
