Shannon Chamber is encouraging companies in Clare to tap into the talent pool offered by people who have immigrated to the county. Clare County Council's integration team identified that between Ukrainian immigrants and people living in IPAS accommodation, there are 6,000 skilled people available for employment. Last week, a seminar hosted by Shannon Chamber found that many people were volunteering as their first job in Ireland rather than seeking employment in their qualified professions. Chief Executive, Helen Downes, says if companies recruit from this cohort, it will provide a great economic boost for Clare.

In May 2024, the Expert Group on Future Skills Needs (EGFSN) published its report on Skills for International Financial Services - An Assessment of Future Skills Requirements in High Potential Sub-sectors of Ireland's International Financial Services Sector to 2027. This report identifies the availability of training and education relevant to the financial services industry. It assesses where gaps might arise in terms of new skills and numbers of skilled individuals up to 2027. It also sets out a number of recommendations to ensure that the potential training and skills needs identified can be addressed effectively. Who better to chat to about this report than Martina Kelly, who chaired expert Steering Group that directed the production and publication of the report. Martina is Director Funds at the IOB (Institute of Bankers) and acts as an independent director to several Irish regulated financial services providers. We discuss the background to the report, its aims and findings. We also discuss the recommendations produced and the plans for ensuring that they are implemented. Plenty to discuss then – enjoy!

Amazon impressive, Etsy miserable, eBay somewhere in between – that's how you could summarize the fresh quarterly figures. In this episode 86, Ingrid and Valerie take a closer look at the figures that Amazon, eBay, Zalando, About You and Etsy presented for the third quarter. Because: If the cautious forecasts that the e-commerce economy is slowly picking up again have proven to be true, then this should be reflected in the figures. The two analyze how successful Amazon's efforts to reduce costs have been, how important revenue from the retail media business is now for Amazon and eBay, and why Etsy is struggling so much with declines in GMV and buyer numbers. They also take a look at the margins at About You in its B2C and B2B business, as well as the strikingly good liquidity of the platform, and they try to take apart Zalando's juggling of numbers. Newsflash: - The EU has launched formal proceedings against Temu because it has concerns that Temu is not effectively preventing the sale of illegal or counterfeit products. - Shein has launched its C2C second-hand platform “Shein Exchange” in Germany. - At the Marketplace Convention last week, Temu refused to answer questions on stage; in a separate breakout room, however, the representatives were a bit more open. Note from the sponsor bestSolutions: The service level agreements of marketplaces and their compliance can be a real challenge for brands and sellers. At Zalando, for example, the SLAs are 36 pages long and specify detailed delivery times and deadlines for the processing of returns. With an experienced logistics company, brands and manufacturers can face these challenges with confidence: bestSolutions can handle both their own online store logistics and B2B logistics. bestSolutions specializes in fashion logistics and is very familiar with the requirements of marketplaces such as Zalando, About You and Amazon. If you're interested in exploring how bestSolutions can support your brand's logistics, Ute Weickel-Oudot is your contact person. Note from sponsor plentyOne: PlentyOne is a German e-commerce service provider offering a complete solution for your omnichannel business – with a very strong focus on marketplaces. It covers the entire sales process across more than 150 sales channels and is suitable for manufacturers and brands of all sizes worldwide. In 2023, more than 116 million orders with a GMV of 9.8 billion euros were processed via the platform. In the coming months, PlentyOne plans to focus on expanding its innovative channel layer technology: this will ensure more efficient, standardized marketplace connections and relieve brands and retailers of complex system processes. The word of the day is inventory. After two days where Nick Sirianni dominated the conversation, The best Show Ever turned their attention to the rest of the Eagles, and took inventory of what is going well, and what is going wrong for them. How an they unlock the potential of this offense? Is this defense better than they have shown. They also take inventory of the Phillies, and question what they are missing, and if that something is the want to win. Andrew DiCecco fills in for Ricky Bo,

Hello and welcome to the Nonprofit SnapCast. I'm your host, Mickey Desai. No guest today. Just a quick housekeeping episode. I've got a few briefs to share with you and one safety issue to discuss with you before this episode is over. The whole thing should take less than 10 minutes. First, as I'm always looking for cool guests to have on the show, this time I have a few special requests in addition to the excellent folks I always get to interview. I'm looking for people who can share success stories about their nonprofits, people who have management tips to share that have turned into some sort of programmatic or nonprofit excellence. I want to hear your success stories. The second thing is I'm looking for board members or managers who have had to shut down their nonprofits or shut down their programs. If you know of anyone who's had to make these decisions or had to supervise these decisions from a board perspective or from a management perspective, I would value their input on the SnapCast and would even be open to interviewing them anonymously. And the third thing is you're about to get a series of interviews between myself, Dave Paule of Our Fundraising Search, and Kathy Bremer of Boardwalk Consulting. We've done a series about job hunting, specifically job hunting within the nonprofit sector, and we want to do some mock interviews with listeners. So if you know somebody who's looking to make a change for their career within the nonprofit sector, or even someone who's maybe outside of the nonprofit world and wants to become part of the nonprofit world, we would like a handful of folks to do mock interviews with on the show. So please contact me through the website--that's nonprofitsnapcast.org--if you know anybody who'd be interested in playing in that regard. A couple of quick announcements: You may remember a few episodes ago, Dave Paule did an episode with us about Our Fundraising Search's Salary and Satisfaction survey that is still going on. They're still collecting data, and I wanted to remind you to go to ourfundraisingsearch.com. In the middle of the page, you'll find a link to their survey. Please get your colleagues to put in their information. More data means a more thorough report, and we will be discussing those results later this year. So please visit ourfundraisingsearch.com, and do take a minute to participate in the Salary and Satisfaction survey amongst nonprofit sector folks. On October 9th of this year, I'm going to a conference here in Atlanta called the Nonprofit Leadership Conference. It is hosted by Sterling Seacrest Pritchard, Truist, and Boardwalk Consulting. Again, it's the 12th annual Nonprofit Leadership Conference. This theme for this one is Turbulence in the Talent Pool. Keynote presentations will provide thought provoking experience that help build new visions for advancing a diverse multi-generational work environment. And nonprofit executives are definitely invited to attend. I will be recording there, may even do a little bit of live streaming. But that's October 9th. You can find information about this at nonprofit conf.com. You'll find information there about the 2024 event and it'll take place at the Atlanta Botanical Gardens. Very cool room, very cool grounds. If you have never been, it's very nice place to check out. Come say hi to me if you happen to be there. Real quick, I wanted to discuss something that I think is pretty important as this country moves through times of political turbulence, even though there may be reasons on the horizon to be very excited in a positive way about the country's political future, the divisiveness, the rhetoric that I continue to see amongst peers and my own friends disturbs me. And so I wanted to take a quick minute to discuss what your nonprofit should be aware of if an active shooter event occurs. I know this is controversial. I know the subject matter is very dark, I apologize. I have done gun safety trainings. I have helped volunteer organizations train other volunteer organizations on gun safety issues. And the training is very simple. You basically have to remember three words: run, hide, fight. Of course, we're going to break that down. Run. Run means if you have an active shooter situation happening in your area, get to a point of safety. What this means, of course, is having some awareness of where your points of egress are throughout your facility, and that could be a door, that could be a window. The closest way to get out may not even be the front door. So sit down with your plan and your staff, take a look at what's where and figure out how to get out if you need to get out. If you can't get out, if things are too hot and you're not sure if you can get out safely, the general best practice is to Hide. So when you hide, lock your doors, prop them closed. If you can, silence your cell phones. In this case, I will tell you to turn them off, don't just make them silent, turn them off. Because a buzzing cell phone can still sometimes be heard through walls and doors, and you don't want a loved one to call you in the middle of an active shooter situation just to make sure you're okay and they betray your location to someone who's up to no good. So lock your doors, turn off the lights, silence or turn off your cell phones as well. Lastly, if necessary, and if the situation just really goes sideways, Fight, the word of advice from law enforcement is do not play dead. Playing dead can backfire for all sorts of horrible reasons. So fight, do not play dead. This is my spin on the whole fight piece, and I think the exercise that I'm about to suggest makes for good leadership development amongst nonprofit teams overall. And that is to take your entire team to go get some self-defense training together. Again, great leadership development, great team development. You don't have to earn the entire black belt, but you should have some awareness of how to handle yourself in situations. And a good self-defense training course will also teach you situational awareness, which is something that I think we could all use a little more of just in general, not just in your office, but on the streets, and as you ride public transportation. Situational awareness is something I think a lot of us take for granted. So I know it's dark material, but I hope this information is useful to you. As the Nonprofit SnapCast continues to move on, you can support my efforts with Patreon. Go to Patreon and search for Nonprofit SnapCast. Every little bit helps. And I'm also continuing to search for sponsors. The SnapCast is almost seven years old. Listenership is actually quite significant, and I've articulated a small sponsor proposition on the website. Go to nonprofitsnapcast.org. You'll see a link in navigation there on Becoming a Sponsor. Any help is appreciated. My plan is to take those funds and turn them immediately into marketing activities for the Nonprofit SnapCast. We've come this far, doing this for seven years, using only word of mouth, and it's really quite amazing what we've accomplished in that much time and how many people think the SnapCast is useful. I am humbled by the reception we've gotten, but I would very much like a professional to see what they can do with the SnapCast in terms of getting us to more people in the nonprofit sector overall. So again, thank you for taking the time to listen. Thank you for being part of the SnapCast family. Just a quick recap: I'm looking for guests, people who can share success stories, board members or managers who've had to shut down a nonprofit and people who can do mock interviews with us. And if you can help with the sponsorship effort, I would greatly, greatly appreciate that. In the meantime, I hope you're all having a lot of success in achieving your mission goals, doing the things that you do to make the world a better place. And stay safe out there, you guys. I'll see you with another episode in roughly a few days. Thank you.
On this episode of the Scouting For Growth podcast, Sabine VdL talks to Sean Languedoc, a seasoned tech entrepreneur with over 25 years of experience building & scaling companies across borders. Sean shares the lessons he learned from scaling five companies, how Outforce.ai is transforming outsourcing, when startups should consider leveraging external teams, and his thoughts on how emerging technologies like generative AI or quantum computing are accelerating development cycles. He also offers advice for non-technical founders looking to build MVPs in a capital-efficient way. KEY TAKEAWAYS Each business started not because of a technology that I wanted to build, it started because of a problem I saw in an industry that I needed to solve, & I was enabled by technology to solve it. You can't just walk into an industry like InsurTech & disrupt it with technology, technology changes a lot faster than behaviour & infrastructure. The lesson there was if things go wrong, the agency is blamed & I'd be fired. It's nothing to do with technology, it's all about people. Across all businesses you have to look at who are you disrupting & how influential are they in the decision-making process? Who wins & who loses & who can you embrace for your winning approach & get momentum behind those. BEST MOMENTS ‘Everyone will tell you you have a great idea until you ask them to pay for it, or until you understand the culture of the industry itself.' ‘For good operators who were really interested in optimising we got a lot of momentum, but for the companies that were horse-trading favours, not so much.' ‘The industry standard is 39% of projects that go to outsourcing don't work out. I'd say another 20% on top of those end up working out only because of brute force, relentless effort by the client to teach the outsourcing agency how to do it.' ‘You can't afford to take the risk of getting it wrong, you need to go in with data & research & get it right.' ABOUT THE GUEST Sean Languedoc is a seasoned tech entrepreneur with over 25 years of experience building & scaling companies. He has founded five tech ventures across various domains, successfully taking two of them "south" from Canada to the US. Currently, Sean is the CEO of Outforce.ai, a company that transforms outsourcing from a daunting task into a strategic asset for venture-backed startups. Outforce.ai aims to be the catalyst that propels tech ventures to their next phase of growth by connecting them with the right engineering teams globally. Beyond his role at Outforce.ai, Sean is deeply involved in the startup ecosystem as a mentor, guiding entrepreneurs through the complex landscape. He serves as a board member at A100 & a Charter Member at C100, underscoring his commitment to fostering tech innovation and entrepreneurship in Canada & beyond. With his extensive expertise in international collaboration, recruiting, & navigating cultural nuances, Sean brings valuable insights on scaling teams, leveraging outsourcing effectively, and adapting to the rapidly evolving tech landscape. Smart Agency Masterclass with Jason Swenk: Podcast for Digital Marketing Agencies
Is your agency work affecting your family life? Are you challenged by finding the right talent to assemble a team to take over some of the work? Today's guest thought she'd always be a solopreneur but as her workload mounted, she realized she needed reinforcements to maintain her level of service and keep clients coming back. Getting the right talent to balance it all was not easy but she relied on a largely untapped talent pool: moms looking to keep their careers thriving while raising their families. In this episode, Sara discusses her experiences scaling her agency and balancing motherhood with a creative career. Sara Jensen owns Brighter Messaging, a digital agency that helps small businesses manage their online presence and generate leads through content-based marketing. Sara shares her journey from being a solopreneur to running a digital marketing agency. In this episode, we'll discuss: Building a compensation model to empower your team. Taking advantage of the largest untapped talent pool. Getting wiser about client choices. Delegating for Success: From Solopreneur to Agency Owner Starting as a freelance writer, Sara began to build her agency right as she had become a first-time mother. That was twelve years ago and she was building her agency from the ground up while navigating motherhood. At the time, she was ghostwriting, blogging, and juggling clients' demands. As the business grew, clients began requesting more services, and Sara realized she needed to level up by building a team. The first role she hired was a virtual assistant, although she admits to being hesitant and unsure of how to work with someone else. Despite her initial reservations, Sara took a leap of faith and trusted her VA to help her navigate the process of delegating tasks and creating processes. One of the key challenges she faced was the fear of losing control and not being able to deliver the same level of quality to her clients. This fear is common among entrepreneurs who are used to doing everything themselves. However, Sara's willingness to trust her team members and let go of some responsibilities ultimately led to the growth and success of her agency. Incentivizing Success: A Compensation Model to Empower Your Team Sara's assistant was the first person to introduce a project management system – Asana – to the agency, changing everything about how they worked. To this day, it's become an essential element of how her team works together and how she manages to get her ideas from her notepad to the team. Having introduced a more structured system to the team's everyday work and communications, Sara understood the importance of building processes and started to do so herself, a task she later delegated to the new project manager. For her, having consistent processes is a huge piece that helps set clear expectations for everyone on the team. Another important factor for finally letting go of many tasks was being intentional about the compensation piece. At her agency, the team works as contractors and they've structured their compensation model around client retainer packages. Each role within the agency gets a portion of those retainers, as an incentive to be more invested in the client's success. By building trust, setting clear expectations, and providing opportunities for growth and development, agencies can create a culture of success and achievement that benefits both the team and the whole agency. Taking Advantage of The Largest Untapped Talent Pool Another important aspect of how Sara has structured her agency to serve the interests of the working moms that mostly make up her team is offering flexible hours and part-time work. Most of her team members have side gigs and are in some stage of motherhood figuring out how to have a career while still dedicating time to their families. For Sara, offering flexible work to moms is a very important part of her business model. In her view, moms are a largely untapped talent pool simply because they opt out; they don't think they can work while taking care of the family and most companies certainly don't offer choices for them to do so. Getting Wiser About Your Client Choices to Prioritize Your Family Life For agency owners, their family life suffers if they fail to flip the switch from agency mode to family mode at the end of the day. However, Sara believes it's misleading to think of it as something you can switch on and off. It depends on the day and what she's doing. In her experience, it also gets easier when you get wiser about the type of clients you choose. Setting expectations and boundaries early on is a big part of ensuring clients respect the balance between work and family life. Sometimes this means the agency loses certain opportunities that just weren't the right fit. However, by making these choices the team solidifies the values they uphold and stays within that lane. In Sara's case, it took a long time to get to a point where she could prioritize family time and set boundaries with clients. In this sense, a big part of this shift came from investing in coaching to clarify what she wanted their life to look like and defining her values and goals. Through this process, she was able to identify the types of clients that aligned with her values and boundaries. Do You Want to Transform Your Agency from a Liability to an Asset?
