To take God's name in vain is much more than simply using it as a curse word. Blaspheme is a symptom of something bigger. ‘In vain' means 'to empty.' So, we're called, not to empty God's name of its fullness, but rather to fill it with the fullness of God's nature and His work. By His name, God has made Himself known: He revealed Himself to the Israelites as ‘The great I am', the one and only true God, the 'Beginning and the End'. And, in the person of Jesus, he has fully revealed himself to the whole world. His name is Wonderful Counsellor, Mighty God, Prince of Peace, Everlasting Lord. When we fill God's name with the fullness of His nature, we see Him more clearly, giving Him His rightful status and place in our lives and the world. To fill God's name with its fullness is also to acknowledge the unique work Jesus has done in making us right with God, beckoning us into God's presence. When we don't empty God's name of its nature and work, our prayer and worship lives are transformed. We approach God with confidence, not in our own name but in Jesus' name, knowing He is the great God, whose name is above all other names, who can do anything for us his children. By Ed Flint

In the third episode of "The Cross," Duane Sheriff explores the concept of blaspheming the Holy Spirit, which is often misunderstood as an unpardonable sin. This sin is not a specific action but rather the rejection of Jesus Christ and His sacrifice on the cross.God offers forgiveness for all sins through the sacrifice of Jesus. The Holy Spirit's role is to convict the world of unbelief in Jesus. According to Matthew 12:31-32 and Mark 3:28-29, all sins can be forgiven except for the rejection of Christ's sacrifice. This episode addresses the common misconceptions about unforgivable sins and provides freedom, hope, and clarity to anyone burdened by guilt.Click for FREE offer ➡️https://pastorduane.com/the-cross/

Blessed are the Merciful (Sermon on the Mount Series) Episode 7 - Sunday, 24th November 2024.Sermon on the Mount Series Episode 7 [Matthew 5:7 (KJV) - "Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy."]1. What does mercy mean? Grace: God gives me blessings I don't deserve! Mercy means God giving me the opposite of what I deserve. A. God showed mercy to Adam and Eve. He covered their sin with a sacrifice and clothed them.B. God allowed Jacob to see Joseph before he died though he didn't deserve it. Gen 45:27-28 And they told him all the words of Joseph, which he had said unto them: and when he saw the wagons which Joseph had sent to carry him, the spirit of Jacob their father revived: 28 And Israel said, It is enough; Joseph my son is yet alive: I will go and see him before I die. C. God showed Mercy on David after he murdered Uriah, scorned the God who had given Him everything and gave the heathen reason to Blaspheme. 2 Samuel 12:13-14 And David said unto Nathan, I have sinned against the LORD. And Nathan said unto David, The LORD also hath put away thy sin; thou shalt not die. 14 Howbeit, because by this deed thou hast given great occasion to the enemies of the LORD to blaspheme, the child also that is born unto thee shall surely die.Psalm 51:1 To the chief Musician, A Psalm of David, when Nathan the prophet came unto him, after he had gone in to Bathsheba. Have mercy upon me, O God, according to thy lovingkindness: according unto the multitude of thy tender mercies blot out my transgressions.D. God is a God of mercy. 1 Chronicles 21:13 And David said unto Gad, I am in a great strait: let me fall now into the hand of the LORD; for very great are his mercies: but let me not fall into the hand of man.Psalm 86:15-17 But thou, O Lord, art a God full of compassion, and gracious, longsuffering, and plenteous in mercy and truth. 16 O turn unto me, and have mercy upon me; give thy strength unto thy servant, and save the son of thine handmaid. 17 Shew me a token for good; that they which hate me may see it, and be ashamed: because thou, LORD, hast holpen me, and comforted me. Psalm 136:1 O give thanks unto the LORD; for he is good: for his mercy endureth for ever. 36 verses with that refrain!Lamentations 3:21-24 This I recall to my mind, therefore have I hope. 22 It is of the LORD'S mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. 23 They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness. 24 The LORD is my portion, saith my soul; therefore will I hope in him. Micah 7:18 Who is a God like unto thee, that pardoneth iniquity, and passeth by the transgression of the remnant of his heritage? he retaineth not his anger for ever, because he delighteth in mercy.1 Peter 1:3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which according to his abundant mercy hath begotten us again unto a lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead.Titus 3:5 Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost; 2. Be a giver of mercy. Matthew 5:7 “Blessed are the merciful, for they shall receive mercy. Give others blessings they don't deserve. 3. As you give mercy you will receive mercy.Matthew 5:7 “Blessed are the merciful, for they shall receive mercy.

In this episode, Niall is asking: Was the Olympic Games Opening: Freedom of Expression or Blasphemy? The discussion stems from a recent controversy during the opening ceremony of the Paris 2024 Olympics. The segment, which parodied Leonardo da Vinci's The Last Supper with drag queens, a transgender model, and a singer made up as the Greek god of wine, has sparked outrage among Catholics and other Christian groups.Paris 2024 organizers issued an apology, stating that there was no intention to disrespect any religious group. They aimed to celebrate community tolerance and highlight the absurdity of violence between human beings. However, the Catholic Church in France and conservative politicians worldwide condemned the performance as disrespectful and blasphemous.Niall explores various perspectives on this contentious issue, highlighting the arguments from both sides. Some callers believe the opening ceremony was a blatant act of blasphemy and disrespect towards Christians. They argue that the parody of The Last Supper was highly offensive and trivialized a significant religious event for millions of Christians. They emphasize that such portrayals are unacceptable and should be condemned.Other callers see the opening ceremony as a form of freedom of expression. They argue that art and performances often push boundaries and challenge norms. While some may find it offensive, it is important to allow creative expression, even if it provokes strong reactions. They believe the performance aimed to promote diversity and inclusivity, sparking important conversations despite the controversy.Niall engages with callers to delve into the nuances of this debate, examining the balance between artistic freedom and respect for religious beliefs.

Not only that, but they all ended up with a band formed at the arse end of 1979.   Steve and Richard went on a voyage of discovery, while Mark mined a familiar dream at the coalface of rock.    The result? What does it mean? Will he will make life harder? Why??? Don't we get enough of that from the devil trying to take us down? Just so much seams harsh. I'm supposed to strive to be like Jesus but he can be so mean sounding sometimes when reading the scripture.   God - Motivation of LoveEnemy - Motivation of Hate   Proverbs 3:11-12 (NIV) My son, do not despise the Lord's discipline, and do not resent his rebuke, 12 because the Lord disciplines those he loves, as a father the son he delights in.   Proverbs 13:24 (NIV) Whoever spares the rod hates their children, but the one who loves their children is careful to discipline them.   -Hot stove   Why did David kill Goliath? I understand that he was a threat, but isn't God against murder?   Kill/Murder - Hebrew ratsach - intentional killing without cause.   Was there cause?   All death is a transfer of an eternal spirit…God gives life   The Bible says God is the same forever, but why does He feel regret after the flood? Rev. Jeffrey Ries, pastor at Zion Lutheran Church in Tacoma, WA, joins host Rev. Timothy Appel to study Leviticus 24:1-23. The LORD speaks to Moses concerning two furnishings in the tabernacle: the golden lampstand and the table for the bread of the presence. These proclaimed Christ as the light of the world and the bread of life. When a man who was a son of an Israelite woman and an Egyptian man blasphemed the name of the LORD, the people made sure that they dealt with him according to the LORD's Word. The LORD revealed that such a curse bore the penalty of death, for to blaspheme God's name was equal to seeking to take His life. The LORD gives the law of retaliation in order to make sure justice is done and limit the sinful desire for revenge. Christ is the One who has borne the curse of the Law for us sinners. “The Holiness of God” is a series on Sharper Iron that goes through the book of Leviticus. Because God desired to dwell among His sinful people for their blessing rather than their destruction, He gave them the sacrifices and regulations of Leviticus to bestow His holiness upon them. In this way, the book of Leviticus points us to Christ who is our great High Priest who offered Himself as the perfect sacrifice to make us holy before God.

In today's episode, the guys discuss the Blaspheming of the Holy Spirit, which means that you create a horrible, heinous sin. Mark 3:28-29 states, “Truly I tell you, people can be forgiven all their sins and every slander they utter, but whoever blasphemes against the Holy Spirit will never be forgiven; they are guilty of an eternal sin.” This states that whoever sins against the Lord will never be forgiven. This view has been held throughout history, but many people still believe this, especially in the Catholic Church. They also discuss dispensationalists, which believe that God works in special, specific ways at certain times in history. Many people are worried they denied Christ and therefore, won't be saved. However, the Bible gives us examples of people who did commit great sins like Peter, David, and Paul, but all three have been forgiven and will be in heaven.  Next, they talk about the four different types of blasphemy against the Holy Spirit that people believe. First, they talk about believing false things about the spirit. If you believe false truths about the Spirit, then that's also blasphemy toward the Spirit. This is too general, and many Christians have false beliefs, but through sanctification they get a right understanding with God. Another view of blasphemy of the Holy Spirit is decisively rejecting a clear truth that the Spirit has revealed about Jesus and His mighty works. They clarify that one cannot claim ignorance, but it is a constant, persistent, lifelong rejection of Christ until death—even going so far as to saying He has demonic origins. The guys say if you are worried that you committed blasphemy against the Holy Spirit, then you probably haven't, because the people who have are the ones who don't care. Blaspheming the Holy Spirit is not accidental—it is deliberate.  Lastly, the guys discuss how to naturally talk about God in our conversations and friendships. There is often a yearning to connect with other Christians and talk about God, but it cannot begin without starting individually. They suggest being proactive about surrounding yourself with other Christians; even just asking someone what they are reading right now in the Word can open up conversation. They also recommend to always have someone in your life who is discipling you, someone who you yourself are discipling, and someone to encourage you. Thanks for listening! The religious leaders have gotten there way. Jesus has been handed over to the Roman authorities, beaten beyond recognition, led to Golgotha, and is crucified on a cross. Can you imagine the hundreds, maybe thousands, who came by to see the one who claimed to be the Messiah and to see what was going to happen to him as he hung on the cross. They never realized he was doing that for them…and us! Many simply thought he was a stranger who was a blasphemer and could do cool magic tricks. They had a misconception about the Messiah and his mission so they rejected the very one who came from heaven and put on flesh! Jesus was dead and Joseph of Arimathea came and took his body down from the cross and placed him in his own tomb. In the words of Roxette, It's over now…so they thought!

Jesus told the religious leaders of his day that if they blaspheme the Spirit of God, they will not be forgiven. The reason is because words matter since words come from the abundance of our heart. Jesus teaches us that we are to be careful with the words we speak because they reveal our hearts.

Continuing with our questions about God the Holy Spirit, I talk with our friend, Drew Shih, about his journey with the Holy Spirit and his take on what the Bible means when it says "Don't quench the Holy Spirit," "Don't grieve the Holy Spirit," and by the haunting statement from Jesus that the only sin that won't be forgiven is the "blasphemy of the Holy Spirit." Drew brings a lot of humility and compassion to this conversation.

Jude 1:4-25 4 For certain people have crept in unnoticed who long ago were designated for this condemnation, ungodly people, who pervert the grace of our God into sensuality and deny our only Master and Lord, Jesus Christ. 5 Now I want to remind you, although you once fully knew it, that Jesus, who saved a people out of the land of Egypt, afterward destroyed those who did not believe. 6 And the angels who did not stay within their own position of authority, but left their proper dwelling, He has kept in eternal chains under gloomy darkness until the judgment of the great day— 7 just as Sodom and Gomorrah and the surrounding cities, which likewise indulged in sexual immorality and pursued unnatural desire, serve as an example by undergoing a punishment of eternal fire. 8 Yet in like manner these people also, relying on their dreams, defile the flesh, reject authority, and blaspheme the glorious ones. 9 But when the archangel Michael, contending with the devil, was disputing about the body of Moses, he did not presume to pronounce a blasphemous judgment, but said, “The Lord rebuke you.” 10 But these people blaspheme all that they do not understand, and they are destroyed by all that they, like unreasoning animals, understand instinctively. 11 Woe to them! For they walked in the way of Cain and abandoned themselves for the sake of gain to Balaam's error and perished in Korah's rebellion. 12 These are hidden reefs at your love feasts, as they feast with you without fear, shepherds feeding themselves; waterless clouds, swept along by winds; fruitless trees in late autumn, twice dead, uprooted; 13 wild waves of the sea, casting up the foam of their own shame; wandering stars, for whom the gloom of utter darkness has been reserved forever. 14 It was also about these that Enoch, the seventh from Adam, prophesied, saying, “Behold, the Lord comes with ten thousands of His holy ones, 15 to execute judgment on all and to convict all the ungodly of all their deeds of ungodliness that they have committed in such an ungodly way, and of all the harsh things that ungodly sinners have spoken against Him.” 16 These are grumblers, malcontents, following their own sinful desires; they are loud-mouthed boasters, showing favoritism to gain advantage. 17 But you must remember, beloved, the predictions of the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ. 18 They said to you, “In the last time there will be scoffers, following their own ungodly passions.” 19 It is these who cause divisions, worldly people, devoid of the Spirit. 20 But you, beloved, building yourselves up in your most holy faith and praying in the Holy Spirit, 21 keep yourselves in the love of God, waiting for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ that leads to eternal life. 22 And have mercy on those who doubt; 23 save others by snatching them out of the fire; to others show mercy with fear, hating even the garment stained by the flesh. 24 Now to Him who is able to keep you from stumbling and to present you blameless before the presence of His glory with great joy, 25 to the only God, our Savior, through Jesus Christ our Lord, be glory, majesty, dominion, and authority, before all time and now and forever. Amen. Key Words: Remind, Destroy, Defile, Reject, Blaspheme, Presume, Remember, Mercy Keystone Verse: Now to Him who is able to keep you from stumbling and to present you blameless before the presence of His glory with great joy, to the only God, our Savior, through Jesus Christ our Lord, be glory, majesty, dominion, and authority, before all time and now and forever. Amen. (Jude 1:24-25)

Many people are frustrated with their life. And many times they asked the question, what is the meaning of life? Well, I can answer that very briefly, to worship God, any day that you worship God in spirit and truth, according to the revelation of His Word, in order to bring honor and glory and praise to Him, that is a successful day. You need to realize that there is an enemy that is against you worshiping God. And we're going to be looking at a psalm in this study that speaks about those that are against Jerusalem, the temple, the people of God, and the worship of the God of Israel.
