Carly and I would be eternally grateful as we continue to try to keep our head above water with this thing. Back in March of 2021 Carly and I released Episode #112 of The Troubadour featuring a western swing band that I knew had a boatload of talent. The interview featured Ryan Humbert and Emily Bates of the Ohio based band named The Shootouts. At the time they were promoting their latest record entitled “Bullseye” produced by Chuck Mead. Well, since that time they've been grinding it out on the road and have cut another record called “Stampede” with Ray Benson and Sam Seifert co-producing. “Stampede” features guest performances by Ray, Asleep at the Wheel, Jim Lauderdale, Marty Stuart, Raul Malo and Buddy Miller. Not exactly a bunch of light-weights! Today we're catching up with Shootouts frontman Ryan Humbert to hear all about the new record and their debut performance at The Grand Ole Opry on February 24th, 2023 which just also happened to be the day “Stampede” was released. There're some great conversation in this episode that you won't want to miss so let's get to it! Here comes Episode #174 of The Troubadour and our visit with Ryan Humbert, frontman of the red hot western swing band, The Shootouts.
Ryan Humbert and Emily Bates of the Akron based band The Shootouts join the podcast to talk about Ryan's Chihuahuas Max and Olaf and Emily's Bernadoodle Dolly Rose. The Shootout's latest album Stampede, released in February, was produced by 10-time Grammy winning founder of Asleep at the Wheel Ray Benson and hit #1 on the Alt-Country Specialty Chart.

Emily Bates suffered severe migraines from a young age, leading her to pursue a career in science in order to study the genetic causes of the condition. She now is an associate professor at the University of Colorado School of Medicine, and runs a lab studying the molecular mechanisms of birth defects. Emily has led groundbreaking discoveries in the field of genetics, overcoming dyslexia, cultural pressures, and self-doubt along the way. She feels that God has led her from the beginning down this path. Emily sees science and faith as compatible methods of seeking truth, and relies on both as she runs her lab, partners with her husband to raise their daughter, and works to understand the nature of God and of the human body.
