We discuss the pianists who influenced him, including Count Basie, Oscar Peterson, Moon Mullican, Jerry Lee Lewis, Al Stricklin, Pete Johnson, Jay McShann, Hank Jones, Ralph Sutton, and Kenny Barron.We also trace Floyd's path into Asleep at the Wheel, which began with an unexpected audition after a period of playing bars in Montana. Floyd explains how his jazz background helped move the band further toward Western swing and how musicians including Al Stricklin, Eldon Shamblin, Johnny Gimble, Ralph Mooney, and other pioneers taught his generation to respect tradition while still developing an individual voice.Floyd shares stories from his work with Waylon Jennings and George Strait, including his decision not to study George Strait's earlier records before entering the studio. Instead, he chose to trust the reason he had been hired and bring his own musical personality to the sessions. On the geopolitical front, there was the much-welcomed agreement of a peace deal between the US and Iran, three-and-a-half months after that conflict began. At the centre of it all, in one way or another, stood president Donald J Trump. Trump had his own personal milestone to celebrate on Sunday as he turned 80 years old. Performing any high-pressure job at the age of 80 is challenging enough, but Trump is the leader of the free world. Recent on-camera sightings might suggest that Trump is visibly withering, despite fiery pushback from his spokespeople and glowing medical reports from his medical team. We're only midway through Trump 2.0, but is he still up to the job? And for those looking to travel to the US for short- or long-term stays, are Irish visitors still as welcome as Trump's travel tsar so enthusiastically insists we are? Transport Infrastructure Ireland is being accusing of being "asleep at the wheel" regarding the surge in road traffic collisions on the main route between Ennis and Limerick. More than 35 crashes have taken place on the Clare stretch of the M18 motorway and N18 dual-carriageway since the start of September, with the vast majority occurring between Junction 11 Dromoland and Junction 5 Cratloe. The TII has recently committed to a conducing a review which will examine the cause of the incidents and recommend safety measures.
