Stormcast with Gobbs
A spirited second half Storm fightback falls short against Premiership heavyweight

Stormcast with Gobbs

Stormy Daniel reviews the narrow defeat to the Panthers. Give any team a 22-nil lead after 40 minutes, let alone the opposition being the Panthers and the contest is over before the second half has even begun. Penrith were at their clinical best, taking the the Storm's defensive fragilities on the edges; the bugbear and major concern of Head Coach Craig Bellamy all season. But a spirited second half showing saw Melbourne score 14 unanswered points against the Premiership favourites, but Penrith's defence, specifically their goal line D was resolute as they managed to keep turning away Storm time and time again. The effort by Melbourne was evident, but lacking the class of the competiton's joint-leaders with missing personnel was the real difference between the two teams. Lacking the star power and polish on last play options have inevitably hurt Melbourne for most of Season 2026. Stormy Daniel also covers off on what's making Storm news, including pathways report, Tui Kamikamica retires whilst being honoured with inaugral contest between the Jersey Flegg Storm and Silktails which will become an annual clash, playing for the Tui Kamikamica Bowl; with the game recognising Kamikamica's contribution to rugby league in both Fiji and Australia. Additional news included Storm welcoming leading global investment organisation, EQT, as a majority shareholder in the Club and what it means for the Victorian Rugby League club moving forward, with Chairman Matt Tripp speaking to EQT's investment, whilst believing Craig Bellamy is far from done as Storm's Head Coach beyond 2027 and his confidence of marquee man Cameron Munster remaining a one club player. Plus team list Tuesday as Storm prepare for their Round 26 clash with the last season's Grand Final opponents, the Brisbane Broncos. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Director Chris Bates sits down with Paul Merritt and Matt Gillett to talk about building wealth and life skills that outlast a sporting career, from mentoring and personal brand to making smarter decisions with money. Paul, a third-generation real estate professional, has spent over 35 years working in property, building and development. Matt, a 10 year Brisbane Broncos, QLD State of Origin player and Australian Kangaroo representative, works in tandem with Paul to help semi pro and pro athletes make informed decisions about their future in house and land packages across Australia - before they sporting journey is over. In this conversation, Matt and Paul share unpack why financial planning early reduces pressure in the long run and creates real freedom for athletes."We focus on residential, and we do that through house and land packages, so that's land and new builds. We do that all over Australia, that way we're not limited to any one particular market. We can also work with the player, with their financial planner or their broker on what sort of entity they want to purchase. So some somebody might want something that's negatively geared, or they might want cash flow, or they might want equity uplift, or a combination of both. And so at least following all the different markets can allow us to look at what that might mean for that particular person as we grow. We are definitely not interested in doing a deal with someone and and doing one house. We want them to build their wealth through property and that is building a portfolio. And that portfolio has a diversification of stock around the countryside."Throughout the conversation, Chris speaks to Paul and Matt on:• Paul's background in real estate and why he focuses on athletes• Matt's transition from NRL to life after footy and what he wishes he knew sooner• trusted mentors as a buffer against distractions and bad advice • balancing big ambition with realistic steps and reset points• why life after sport can be 45 years long and requires a plan• how having a conversation with Merritt Sports before you are 'ready for real estate' can set you up with great building blocks • what the Merritt Sports partnership offers Study & Play USA families• how house and land packages work and why data matters• starting with a financial health check and a simple savings roadmap• "FOMO" vs “FOGI” and choosing action in real estate when you are ready"We are always looking for ways in which Study & Play USA can provide our student-athletes with ongoing support in college and beyond. Partnering with Merritt Sports allows our student-athletes to be prepared for life in the workforce or life as a professional athlete, providing options for how to leverage their income and wealth through property investment. We are thrilled to partner with a company with a clear passion for sport and for athlete development."-Chris Bates, Director of Study & Play USAWhether you are a current US college athlete, recent US college graduate, in the workforce or playing professionally, Merritt Sports can help you with your real estate goals! Learn more by visiting:https://merrittsports.com.au/ *Please note: at the time of recording, Chris spoke about 4 years of playing eligibility. But, with a fourth straight win on the line, Wests Tigers couldn't get the job done against an injury-ravaged Brisbane Broncos, going down 21-20.On this edition of the Wests Tigers Podcast, Joel, Nick, and Josh pull apart the good, the bad, and the ugly from the Tigers' performance. Some of the main talking points include:Should Samuela Fainu be considered for NSW Origin selection?Should Heamasi Makasini be dropped to regain some confidence? What to do with the Wests Tigers halves? How Wests Tigers won on the stats sheet, but not on the scoreboard. How and why the team struggled just before halftime.Naturally, there are many 'One Word' submissions from the members of the Wests Tigers Podcast Forum. Thank you to everyone who left theirs again. Also, the Richo Meter comes out, and the boys try to answer the question - did the Wests Tigers players start getting a little overconfident before this game? And, is it a good thing we have only a short turnaround before our next game? All that, and a whole lot more on this latest edition of the Wests Tigers Podcast!Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/wests-tigers-podcast--6660380/support.

Danny Weidler, Adam Pengilly and Charlie White are all back for a big episode of Triple M NRL's The Journos! St George Illawarra Dragons cannot avoid the spotlight as potential superstar front-rower Loko Pasifiki Tonga has grown tired of not getting picked by coach Shane Flanagan. Danny spoke to Flanno before the podcast to shed more light on the situation. But Shane's job continues to be thrown into growing doubt as the pressure intensifies week by week. And we also question why a club who is in desperate need for a halfback didn't enter the race for many players who were available? Players who were flourishing last season and have been now, currently. We get the full story on what happened between Gorden Tallis and the Brisbane Broncos spin doctor as the feud between the former legend and the club continues to grow. Matt Burton wants to stay as a Bulldog but even as both camps have started talks, an agreement is far from done. Will there be a salary cap squeeze in Belmore? Will Jahream Bula stay at the Wests Tigers? The club is in fine form but his agent is Isaac Moses and he has a big history with the club's coach Benji Marshall! Tune in for everything above and more! But also if you're able to have a look, here's the fundraiser for Jacek McLaurin who sadly suffered a spinal cord injury from playing footy. 308: Peak Demands and Decision-Making Under Fatigue with Stan Parker

Science for Sport Podcast

Fresh from pre-season camp in Australia, Richard Graves sits down with Stan Parker, Sports Scientist at the Western Bulldogs, to explore how tracking data, contextual analytics, and interdisciplinary collaboration shape performance in elite AFL. Stan's journey spans the Brisbane Broncos in the NRL, Queensland Rugby Sevens, and now five seasons embedded within the Bulldogs' high-performance programme, including a PhD focused on contextualising tracking data beyond simple load metrics. This episode moves beyond “distance covered” and “top speed” to examine how sports science actually influences coaching decisions, athlete development, injury management, and tactical execution. From peak demand analysis and real-world decision-making under fatigue, to AI readiness and workflow efficiency, this is a grounded, practitioner-led conversation about where elite sport is really heading. In this episode you will learn: Why contextualising tracking data matters more than collecting more of it How to compare peak training demands to peak match demands The role of vision and video in translating data for coaches and players How to build buy-in when athletes aren't “numbers learners” The balance between availability and performance in weekly competition cycles How interdisciplinary decision-making works inside an AFL club Why isolated fatigue “flags” can be misleading How gym-based physical development can be directly tied to on-field outcomes The importance of soft skills in high-performance environments Where AI realistically fits (and doesn't fit) in elite sports science About Stan Parker Stan Parker is a Sports Scientist with the Western Bulldogs in the AFL. He has previously worked with the Brisbane Broncos and Queensland Rugby Sevens, building experience across multiple elite sporting codes in Australia. Stan is also completing a PhD focused on the contextualisation of tracking data in team sports, exploring how movement patterns and peak demands can better explain performance impact rather than serving purely as load monitoring tools. He is particularly interested in bridging the gap between data analytics, coaching vision, and real-world performance application.
