Animal rights group PETA has launched a campaign calling on the Brisbane Broncos to retire their live horse mascot, Buck. The Broncos have responded, stating, "We have no plans to retire Buck." PETA Asia-Pacific Campaign Manager, Abigail Forsyth, told Gary Hardgrave on 4BC Drive, "It's really simple that just live animals don't belong at sporting events. And forcing a horse like Buck into a stadium full of bright lights and screaming fans, loud noises. It's a terrifying and distressing experience for that animal." "Our main ask is to retire Buck. But there are also other things that the team can do and the name and imagery that the team uses glorifies rodeos. And rodeos are an industry built on animal fear and pain and we're simply asking them to leave the rodeo imagery behind." "Why not embrace a new name that has no animal cruelty attached?" Ms Forsyth continued. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
There are rumours of a rift between the players and the coach at the Brisbane Broncos which comes just at the wrong time for the club coming off two disappointing losses. Apparently Michael Maguire has lost the sheds and the players have been described as "lacking effort". Injured Broncos Half Ben Hunt told Peter Fegan on 4BC Breakfast, ""There's obviously plenty of noise going out there at the moment, but no, mate, he definitely hasn't lost the playing group." "Whenever you play in Brisbane, you lose a couple of games, there always seems to be a lot of noise starting to pop up on the outside. "We're still going strong here, we just had a couple of setbacks, but now everything's going well," Ben Hunt said.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

The Brisbane Broncos have had a steady start to the NRL season, however, the team narrowly lost to the New Zealand Warriors on Saturday night. Broncos star Patrick Carrigan told Peter Psaltis on Wide World of Sports, "Plenty of positives, I think." "Probably our attitude and those sorts of things improved on the week before. And I think Madge probably was pleased with that aspect of things, but we just shot ourselves in the foot again, too many mistakes." "Seven weeks into the comp learning and building some combos, but, we've got plenty of room for improvement," Carrigan continued. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
