FA Cup Semi-Final weekend sees the focus on Dean Henderson and Matz Sels in this episode of Between the Sticks. The former making a bog stop in Crystal Palace's win over Aston Villa. The latter called out for not coming for a corner which all but ended Nottingham Forest's hope of a dream day out as Man City booked their place in a third successive final. In the EFL, three goalkeepers bagged their first clean sheet of the season on the penultimate day. For George Evans and Toby Steward it was a full opening of a professional account at Millwall and Crawley respectively, while Michael Kelly helped Accrington survive another season in League Two. Congrats to James Trafford, Sam Tickle and Owen Goodman who all made Teams of the Season. And a nod to Chris Maxwell, who following doctor's advice has decided to call time on his goalkeeping career.
Suj and James discuss the fallout from a weekend where many Free Hitters saw success with many assets from the popular teams did well, and for a change there were some defensive heroes in the likes of Jose Sa, Rayan Ait-Nouri, Kieran Trippier and Ryan Sessegnon all hauling. There's discussion on all the games as usual as Liverpool confirmed themselves as Champions following their demolition of Tottenham, and the relegation picture is also done after ten man Ipswich lost at Newcastle. The FA Cup Semi Finals are also reflected on with focus on what that now means for the prospect of doubles in Gameweek 36. The outlook now looks tough for those with the Assistant Manager Chip left and that includes, Suj, so what will he do? And James is on Wildcard with eyes on assets to include, but there is one difficult decision to make first off, because captaincy for GW35 looks wide open. The FA Cup Semi-Final ended in defeat as a disappointing first half saw the Reds concede a very early goal, as Man City threatened to overrun Nuno's team. The half-time introduction of Anthony Elanga almost paid immediate dividends but City scored a second straight away. Even then, the Reds hit the woodwork three times and forced an excellent save from Stefan Ortega, but Matz Sels also had to make some crucial interventions. Our match report features snippets from Wembley by Baz and Rich, some more considered analysis from Steven and George, and a view from Man City fan Mike Passaris. Join us later in the week for your Brentford match report, as the Reds return to league action, and we will also aim to reflect upon the Women's Championship winning season in due course. YOU REDS!
