West Ham's disallowed 95th minute goal from Callum Wilson has been described as the 'biggest call in VAR history' as it was ruled out for a foul on David Raya. The battle for survival has reached a fever pitch! Join Wolfie for a massive "Beat The Drop" special as he's joined by Westhamfantv and wearetottenhamtv to dissect a dramatic weekend of Premier League action. While Nottingham Forest stole the headlines with a sensational 5-0 demolition of Sunderland on Wearside, the "Grumpy" factor remains high as both London rivals secured vital points. We break down the impact of Callum Wilson's late heroics for the Hammers against Everton and João Palhinha's strike that gave Spurs their first win in what feels like an eternity. With Forest sitting 5 points clear of West Ham and 8 points clear of the bottom three, the panel debates who truly gained the edge in the race to stay up. Beyond the weekend's results, we dive into the fallout of a classic Saturday afternoon that kept the relegation picture wide open. We analyze whether Vítor Pereira's eight-match unbeaten run and the four-goal blitz at the Stadium of Light finally makes Forest "safe," or if the resurgent form of Spurs and West Ham means the pressure is still firmly on. The panel also looks ahead to the remaining four fixtures, discussing the psychological shift at the bottom and how the Europa League semi-final against Aston Villa might distract the Reds from their survival mission. In this episode of The Joy of Football Podcast, Martin Tyler and Neil Barnett break down a huge week in football - from FA Cup semi-finals and Chelsea's ongoing struggles to the deeper issues shaping the modern game. The episode opens with a brand new segment, One Week, reflecting on a dramatic run of fixtures including Chelsea's turbulent performances against Brighton & Hove Albion and Leeds United. From a damaging defeat at Brighton to a much-improved display at Wembley, the conversation dives into the inconsistency at Chelsea - with players like Levi Colwill, Tammy Abraham, and Fikayo Tomori referenced as part of a wider discussion around standards, effort, and identity at Stamford Bridge. There's also discussion around fan unrest at Chelsea, with chants referencing Todd Boehly, Clearlake Capital, and even Roman Abramovich, highlighting the growing disconnect between supporters and ownership during a difficult period for the club. In Letter from the Gantry, Martin reflects on FA Cup semi-final history - from Southampton's brave performance against Manchester City to unforgettable moments involving clubs like Coventry City, Arsenal, Liverpool, Manchester United, and Oldham Athletic. Legendary names, including Sir Alex Ferguson, Arsène Wenger, Ryan Giggs, Dennis Bergkamp, and Mark Robins, all feature in a rich look at football history and why semi-final losers should never be forgotten. The Voice of Passion segment delivers a powerful take on how modern football clubs are run, using Chelsea as the central example. Neil questions the current structure involving owners, sporting directors, and head coaches, arguing that the traditional manager, in the mould of Sir Alex Ferguson or José Mourinho, should still be the central figure. Pep Guardiola is also discussed, with his control at Manchester City highlighted as a model of how elite football leadership should function. In Three of the Best, attention turns to standout individuals across the game. Young goalkeeper Senne Lammens (linked with Manchester United) is highlighted alongside Sunderland's Anthony Patterson, while experienced players like Callum Wilson and Pascal Groß are praised for their quality and intelligence. There's also recognition for Ollie Pearce and Nottingham Forest's Ola Aina, whose performances continue to grow in importance. The episode also touches on major names across world football, including Edouard Mendy, Riyad Mahrez, and Ivan Toney, as well as discussions around international football, the World Cup, and elite-level performance. From Chelsea's identity crisis and Brighton's dominance to Pep Guardiola's influence, Manchester City's consistency, and the enduring magic of the FA Cup, this episode is packed with insight, debate, and storytelling from across the football world.

Unearth the hidden gems of the beer world and claim your free case here: www.beer52.com/ANALYTICS West Ham United are currently three points from safety, but taking 10 points from the last 15 has fundamentally changed the feeling around the club. This week on The West Ham Breakdown, Jack and Cal map out the tactical path forward following the high-intensity, high-pressure, and at times highly frustrating, performances against Manchester United and Burnley. While it was gutting to drop points to a last-minute equaliser at the London Stadium, Jack and Cal discuss why the Hammers are starting to look more than good enough to survive and are currently putting ginormous pressure on the teams above us. They discuss West Ham's seeming inability to kill off games after being robbed of 2 points against Man Utd, why bringing on Callum Wilson in a winning gamestate might be the worst possible option and whether Jarrod Bowen could be the answer.

Host Ricky Sacks is joined by Broadcasters Russ Williams, Marcus Buckland and Marlon as we suffered late heartbreak in Saturday's London derby as West Ham United struck an injury-time winner. In a typically frenetic derby clash at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, a thumping second-half header from skipper Cristian Romero had cancelled out Crysencio Summerville's early deflected opener for the visitors. But, despite plenty of pressure on the Hammers' goal, we were unable to find the winner and instead, Callum Wilson netted a close-range strike to snatch the points and end their 10-game losing streak. We discuss where this leaves the future of Thomas Frank and whether he can survive this latest London derby defeat and manner of the performance. Wolfie looks into Forest's top striker target for this January transfer window! For Exclusive Content Join FFTV Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/ForestFanTV The search for a new striker at the City Ground has taken a major twist, with Olympiacos frontman Mehdi Taremi emerging as the "leading candidate" to bolster Sean Dyche's attacking options. Following the long-term injury to Chris Wood and the loan departure of Arnaud Kalimuendo, the need for a proven goalscorer is urgent. Given that Evangelos Marinakis owns both clubs, a move for the 33-year-old Iranian international is seen as the most realistic and straightforward deal of the January window. Wolfie looks into whether Taremi—who has already notched 13 goals in Greece this season—is the "shrewd" signing we need or if his age and lack of Premier League experience make it a gamble we can't afford to take. While Taremi offers a physical presence and a clinical edge, many fans are questioning if Forest should instead turn their attention to a more familiar face in Callum Wilson. The former Newcastle man is reportedly set to become a free agent after a mutual agreement to terminate his contract at West Ham. With 92 Premier League goals to his name, Wilson is the definition of "proven," but his well-documented injury record remains a massive red flag. As the January 31st deadline approaches, the pressure is on the recruitment team to find a partner for Igor Jesus who can hit the ground running. Beyond the striker search, we also touch on the latest surrounding the midfield and whether the potential arrival of a veteran like Taremi signals a shift in strategy towards immediate results over long-term development. We also look at Kyle Walker's switch to Burnley from Man City, and ask whether the newly promoted sides should look to use free agents to add experience in their quest for top flight survival. FA Cup weekend brought mixed fortunes for Newcastle United's senior teams; Eddie Howe's men emerged victorious, but by no means unscathed, from a trip to Birmingham while the women's team fought valiantly and competed but were deservedly beaten by WSL outfit Crystal Palace.Eddie Howe rotated his squad at St Andrews, with only Bruno Guimaraes and Dan Burn retained from the starting eleven that beat Arsenal in midweek. Two goals from Joe Willock and one on his Newcastle FA Cup debut (!) from Callum Wilson were just about enough in what became a bruising encounter. The Lasses(TM) don't play again until March when they'll need to get straight back to winning ways if they are to have any chance of promotion, but The Lads are off to the Emirates this weekend with their best chance of a result in an awfully long time. WE are feeling good about that, and about our chances in the FA Cup, which has opened up nicely for Howe and co. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
