If there was one thing you think society should talk more about, what would it be?“Failure. I believe it's something to be celebrated. We get to learn, grow, skill up and better understand ourselves as a result of failure.” _____I met today's guest many years ago in Uluru when she came and ran yoga sessions for all the participants at a corporate conference I was attending. She was fantastic and her energy, practical approach and beautifully frank demeanour made me love her immediately. Lola Berry went on to do so many things since then - today she's an actor, TV host, podcaster, nutritionist and writer. Lola is a best selling author of 11 books and has worked in the media industry for over a decade. She's into her 5th year of studying acting and TV hosting and is currently living between Los Angeles and Byron Bay. Lola is a regular guest on TV shows and ambassador for Aussie household brands like Oral B, ANZ, Honda Cars, Campbell's and Grill'd burgers. Lola is also the co-creator of medicinal brain tonic coffee Lola Coffee. Lola has a podcast called “Fearlessly Failing with Lola Berry” where she interviews notable profiles about their failures and how it's the tough times that actually shape and help us to grow. Lola is passionate about inspiring and empowering others to look after themselves mentally, physically, emotionally and spiritually. The podcast led to the release of her 11th book (!!) with the same title - Fearlessly Failing and is all about how to grow through challenges and embrace the lessons so-called failure can teach us. Lola's a “what you see is what you get” kind of girl. No bells and whistles, just the real deal and as you're about to hear…so bloody refreshing! It's also about how to spot the signs leading you towards your life purpose, how to achieve lasting personal growth as well as what our body can teach us about finding true joy and lasting health. I cannot speak highly enough of this Aussie actress, singer, song writer and how cool is this; initiative tarot card reader! Bonnie is the real deal and her star is massively on the rise. After being cast in Star Wars episode 2 and 3 some 20 years ago, Bonnie is back on our screens as the iconic Aunt Beru in Obi-Wan Kenobi. I was also lucky enough to see Bonnie's new movie My Favourite Girlfriend at the cast and crew screening, and boy oh boy it was so much fun to watch a friend shine like that. Creative humans are a special breed; they work so hard at a dream that often only they can see, the rate of failure is so high and yet they continue to go after this thing. So when that dream, after years of hard work comes true, It's truly magical. So being in the theatre with the cast and crew of Bonnie's first lead in a feature film was unreal! Bonnie's star is one to watch, can't wait to see what's next for this talented human. Meet my improv teacher Sean Will. He's a very cool soul, he's open, honest and hard working. Having worked in commercials, TV, film and he's even acted in a Taylor Swift video. In this chat we not only talk about Sean's success but we deep dive into improv and uncover some of the classic improv rules that can most defiantly be applied to life, there's not need to be into comedy to get something from this chat. Improv rules we breakdown in this chat are: 1. Listen 2. Yes, and 3. Support and trust 4. Always assume that you know. In improv the only wrong move is no move. p.s if you're in LA Sean is part of an improv group called “Lemon Pepper Wet” keep an eye out for them when you're in town! Meet Oliver Bora of Olivers Hen's. What a legend, I first met Oliver at the Mullumbimby farmers markets. After becoming a huge fan of his ethical and sustainable eggs i wanted to know his story and after a bit of googling i quickly learnt that he started his business in year 11 at 17 years old via crowdfunding. He started with 450 hens, a caravan and space at his school. Cut to today; he has over 2000 happy hens, 3 caravans and is based at The Farm in Byron Bay. Oliver is a very cool human, in this chat he breaks down the difference between free range, paister raised, and organic eggs, so next time you're out shopping you'll be able to support sustainable and ethical farming, after all we get to vote with our dollar. Oliver is smart, talented, driven, kind and passionate about sustainable and ethical farming. It makes me really excited that this is our future. Manoj is a Buddhist meditation and mindfulness teacher. I think this episode will inspire you to really embrace the things that make us feel more mindful and connected. Manoj openly shares about his journey to date. I ask him to talk about Holotropic breathwork; what it is and what it does. As 2 days before this chat I'd been to one of his breathing classes and I had no idea what to expect but was go smacked by all the different experiences; people were crying, screaming and laughing, it seemed like a huge release. I get Manoj to share some of his Buddist philosophies with us; the tail of the 2 arrows is really interesting and something we can most differently apply in our real life. Here's a little more about Manoj: - He co-owns Open; a meditation, movement and mindfulness space here in Venice, LA but it's also a wonderful online place to access mindfulness; they've set me up with a code to give you 30 days trial for free that you can do from the comfort of your own home from anywhere in the world. https://go.o-p-e-n.com/LOLA30 - Here's a link to Manoj's first book: Still together https://www.amazon.com/Still-Together-Connection-through-meditation/dp/1743796714 - And here's his insta: https://www.instagram.com/manojdias_/ - You'll hear us talk about our mutual mate Joe Wicks AKA The Body Coach who taught me the term “wobble day.” He's also been on the pod too, you can listen to that episode here: https://shows.acast.com/fearlessly-failing/episodes/97.fearlesslyfailing-joewicksakathebodycoach - Manoj also mentioned the book The Surrender Experiment by Michael A. Strap yourselves in for this true crime LA episode. We visit 4 iconic murder locations here in Los Angeles, we share the story of each location, and as you'll hear things come up for David relating to the murders. Some places felt really eerie and gave you the heebeegeebees, whilst others felt calm, like the energy had shifted a pinch. Here's a list of the places we visited in order: Location 1: El Coyote on Beverly Boulevard in West Hollywood, whist this wasn't an actual murder location, it's where Sharon Tate and her friends came for their last meal before they were brutally murdered by the Charles Manson cult clan on the evening of August 9th 1969. You'll hear David straight away pick up on the way she had been murdered without knowing her story. So fascinating.Location 2: The Hillside Strangers. This story is really creepy. And as youll hear, it still feels creepyFrom 1977-1978 two cousins kidnapped, raped, tortured and strangled girls. Then would load them into their car and dump their nude bodies long the LA hillsides. Super creepy. Both David and I dint like the vibes of this place, we went to the auto mobile service centre (which it still is today) which is where they took and tortured their victims.Location 3: The LaBianco residence. This husband and wife were victims of another Manson murder. This time Charles Manson was actually involved and on sight. He entered the house first; tied his victims up and told them nobody would hurt them, only that they were being robbed. He then exited the house and sent his Mason family clan upon them. The couple were brutally murdered just like the evening before at Sharon Tate's house. Theses murderers were only kids, literally in their teens.Location 4: You've heard me talk about this please before, this is the Los Feliz murder mansion. When cardiologist Harold came home one night and went for his wife with a ball pin hammer, then then moved onto his 18-year-old daughter who escaped, along with his two other kids (just 11 and 13 years old). He then went to his bathroom and took a concoction of meds and died 15 minuets later. The really spooky part of this story is that someone bought the house and left it untouched for 6 decades, rumours say you could still see Christmas presents wrapped through the windows from that December night in 1959.This episode is like nothing we've done before on Fearlessly Failing, but I must say it was so fascinating and David was wonderful, he shared so much and I felt very safe and protected with him there. Holy moly, what a legend. I've been bugging Tanya to jump on the pod for what feels like (and probably is) years now, but we've just never been in the same place at the same time. So, it took a bit of magic to make this podcast align, literally, we recorded this at Disneyland! Tanya had just finished filming a travel show at the Happiest Place on Earth and on her one day off before that long haul flight home, she said yes to jumping in the pod, what a legend! Tanya is unstoppable; she's a comedian, author, TV presenter, radio announcer and creator of the coolest makeup collection going round! I'm a huge fan and as you'll hear in this pod, she's one of the hardest workers you'll ever meet! Sam Harris is a very grounded human being, she's calm, clear and confident. She knows who she is and what she stands for. This was one of those interviews which came from a chance luck meeting. I was stuck in Sydney with the Byron floods and within 24 hours of being grounded we'd organised to sit down at her manager's office and have a good old chin-wag. In this chat we unpack Sam's career and how the beauty industry has changed over the years to be more inclusive and diverse. Sam was the second indigenous women to grace the cover of Vouge Magazine, ever! She's a go-getter, but a calm one, she calmly goes after her goals and aims to inspire other humans along the way. I have to do a shoutout of Locako for allowing me to interview Sam for this pod; she's an ambassador for their beauty collagen range. https://locako.com.au/collections/beauty-rangeps. you can Follow Sam here: www.instagram.com/sam_harrisBig love,Lola Follow Lola Berry on Instagram: @yummololaberrywww.lolaberry.comwww.lolacoffee.co See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
Meet behavioural relationship expert, podcaster and author. Get ready to learn and laugh. In this episode you'll hear Tracy teach me (and hopefully you) about these terms I've heard but never really taken the time to get to know or understand in depth. We'll be talking about insecure attachment, anxious avoidant, fear of rejection, people pleasing, narcissism and emotional intelligence (EQ). Tracy teaches us the “drama triangle” the victim, the rescuer and the persecutor and why we're wired to believe we belong in this triangle, she even breaks down how pop culture like songs and movies plots and storylines are based around this triangle. You'll find the tools in this chat to own your feelings, to be and to welcome your feelings. Tracy is all about building a deeper awareness of self. What a force. Author, podcaster, climate engager and foster mum. Sarah Wilson has been on my dream guest list from day dot. Now, I'm not going to lie, I was a tad nervous for this chat. I mean it's the Sarah Wilson, not only the queen of the health and wellness world when I was writing nutrition books. Sarah has gone on to do some pretty incredible things and has since written about anxiety, opened up about her bipolar (in First we make the Beast Beautiful) and more recently she's written about climate change in her newest title The One Wild and Precious Life. You know when you meet someone who's incredibly intelligent and you get scared you're not smart enough, well that was me! But I had nothing to fear, Sarah welcomed me into her home, and helped me to understand a little more about not only her, but her powerful value system. This is a human that's here to make a difference, and my word, she absolutely is. p.s image credit from audiogram: Rob Palmer Want to learn more about Sarah? Get ready for David the medium. What an incredible human being. David is a medium and psychic. He's so open about his process and how he connects with spirit. David describes life as a classroom for the soul; everything we have going on in life is like a subject; for example relationships are like maths, or financial freedom might be geography. I think it's a really cool way of looking at life and embracing the lessons that come our way. In this episode David did a reading on me, he absolutely blew me away. I've known Sal for years and it's been so lovely to watch her grow not only personally, but also professionally. In this chat we cover all the bases; her story, health journey (trigger warning we talk about orthorexia in here which for Sal involved over exercising and undereating of extremely healthy food but it was a form of an eating disorder), we also talk about becoming a clinical nutritionist and some of her favorite health practices and supplements. Hugh epitomises what I love about Australians; he has an unreal sense of humor and he laughs at himself. If you've read either of his books he writes the exact same way that he talks. It's like you're sitting down and having a coffee and chatting with him. In this chat we talk about his value system GEM; gratitude, empathy and mindfulness. He shares his personal stories and it feels like his set point is to be open and vulnerable. We recorded this podcast a couple of months ago now, right before his latest book Let Go was released. My favorite quality about Hugh is that he genuinely loves what he does, i think that's a rare but awesome trait. I would highly recommend both of his books, he's one of the goodies. I have been hanging to get Sam Frost on the podcast since the day we launched Fearlessly Failing! And the stars finally aligned. I laughed so much in this podcast, yes, Sam courageously wears her heart on her sleeve but doesn't take herself too seriously so she has this awesome combo of vulnerability mixed with brilliant humor. I hope you loved this chat as much as I did, I didn't want her to leave. Sam;s the kind of girl you just want as a mate, she's a good egg who's all heart. I can honestly say, hand on my heart, that I made a new friend today. When Lorna came over for the interview she was warm, friendly, kind and I felt like she genuinely cared about my dreams and aspirations. This episode is for anyone who has a dream. LJ started out teaching aerobics and making her own outfits to teach class in, then she'd make outfits for people who asked her where she bought the getup from, that progressed to having a rack on the side of the gym where people could buy her creations after class. She remembers teaching a class and the whole room was wearing what she'd whipped up. In 1990 she opened her first ever store, it was scary and took a truckload of courage. Fast forward to today Lorna is the director and creative designer of Lorna Jane, author of best selling books (one of which you'll hear us talk about today), she's motivation and movement creator. Even coining the term "active wear." In this episode we talk about drive, making mistakes, burn out, why dieting sucks, having an inner tiger and passion. I left this pod feeling inspired and like i had made a friend, Lorna was so giving of her time and energy and she spurred me on to chase my dreams even harder. Meet B; she's resilient, honest, courageous and has the heart of a lion. She's the founder and director of The Owl and Pussy Ct Farm Animal Sanctuary. During the floods a 60 meter wide torrent ripped through their sanctuary; they've lost so much; animal feed, animals homes, fencing, 3 cars (when we visited we passed one of their cars lodged in a tree a meter down the road), the roads were completely shut off and are still damaged today, on top of all this, their home was hit too. These guys are passionate about rescuing, rehabilitating, and rehoming farm animals. This charity is purely run by one wonderful family, donations and volunteers. Here's the link if you feel like donating your time or if you're a local DM them on insta and volunteer like we did, it's very rewarding and comes with some epic animal hangtime. This human knows hard work, he's got gumption and built a huge career for himself. Talk about dream podcast guest! If you're anything like me, chances are you watched Looking for Alibrandi growing up. Pia won an AFI award for best lead actress for her role as Josephine Alibrandi. I had this movie on DVD and the soundtrack on CD too, so you can imagine how nervous I was going into this interview. More recently I've watched Pia on Wentworth and Mustangs FC. She's also done a bunch of theatre acting too. I love that Pia opened up about acting and her process, we talked about different acting techniques, i was like a kid in a candy shop. Of course I couldn't interview Pia Miranda without asking about Survivor; Pia won Survivor, that's 50 days in Fiji slogging it out, facing her fears to win the title. After the pod Pia asked if i wanted to smell her Survivor gear, i was like sure thing, spoiler alert it literally smells like jungle. Pia is open, kind and caring. I hope you love this interview as much as I do, it was an honour to sit down with the talented Pia Miranda. What a powerhouse; this celebrity and fashion stylist is non stop and has dressed the likes of Megan Gale, Rebecca Judd, Rachel Zoe and Ruby Rose just to name a few. I loved chatting to Lana and getting a taste of her unwavering work ethic. She believes in confidence, backing yourself and celebrating wins. On top of being a mum and having a busy schedule, Lana is the designer and director of her own shoe line which is going gangbusters and it's all about making statement shoes accessible to every woman. This episode solidified for me; that hard work truly does pay off. Our 1st Women of Words chat for the year is a winner - we chat with Lola Berry! Lola is an author, nutritionist, TV presenter, actor, yoga instructor and host her own podcast Fearlessly Failing - which if you enjoy the Men and Women of Words pods you'll LOVE it! Lola has that thing... Liam and I both were feeling a little flat going into this chat but she has that way about her that she brings the people around her up and fills them up with positivity. It worked on us!! Fearlessly Failing is also her latest book to be released and it's a great read. Brian Patto is an amazing film director. We met shooting a commercial campaign for ANZ a couple of years ago and he lit up the entire crew, he's a very cool human. Most recently Brian has written and directed a short film called Grace; which is about a father living in war-torn Iraq who's protecting his daughter from violent fanatics, using the innocent game of hide and seek. It's personal, heartbreaking and getting attention all over the world. We talk about the film, how it came to life, and how he's now working on turning it into a feature film. Brian has a passion for telling honest, authentic and personal stories, he loves filmmaking because it evokes emotion and thought. We also nerd out over our favourite films. Any creative will absolutely love this episode! You can check out Brian on insta here: https://www.instagram.com/brianpatto/And Grace the film here: https://www.instagram.com/grace.shortfilm/Big Love,Lola Follow Lola Berry on Instagram: @yummololaberrywww.lolaberry.comwww.lolacoffee.co See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
Today's guest is my longtime mate Charlie Goldsmith. He's a wonderful human being with a unique skill set. He's a healer, and was also on the TV show which was all about his healing and how he can help others, it was called "The Healer." In this chat yes of course we talk about Charlie's healing but we spent a fair bit of time talking about his other passion; health. He's a very driven, disciplined and honest person so what you'll hear is his unfiltered beliefs. I've always admired Charlie's discipline and ability to make health his priority, I like many others, am healthy about 80% of the time then have big wobble days when I gorge on sugar, not Charlie, he's constantly honouring his health and i love it. Charlie, you're hard working, kind and caring. It was an honour to have you on this podcast. What a down to earth, humble Aussie actor Linc is. If you're like me and grew up watching Home & Away you'll remember him as River Boy, Casey Brexton. And more recently on Love Child and Doctor Doctor. He's been doing great things in America too, being cast as a lead in Eva Longoria's Grand Hotel. After covid hit America and shut down sets (he was about to begin shooting another project) Linc came back to Australia and hasn't stopped and you'll hear here's got a lot on the horizon for 2022! Today I chat with the wonderful Lola Berry, who is a TV presenter, best selling author, nutritionist, yoga teacher and podcast host of “Fearlessly Failing with Lola Berry”. Lola's work in redefining failure and being humble all the way through shapes today's conversation. She shares a public failure she had, the lessons it taught her and we dive into why the bounce back from failure is more important than the "failure" itself. We also speak about the art of detaching and why you cannot be fully present if you're attached - I LOVE this concept and I know you will too! She also shares a very curious self care activity which I adore (and need to try myself) and a little about setting and executing goals! Can't wait for you to dive into this chat!
