They dive into the importance of social connection in yoga, with Peter emphasizing the value of encouraging conversation in classes to foster a sense of community. They reflect on the vibrant yoga scene in San Francisco during the 2010s and the profound impact of Peter's mentor, Rusty Wells, whose devotional and sweaty yoga classes left a lasting impression on his own teaching style. It's no secret that the alternative protein startups are struggling these days. A combination of lower revenue, intense competition, and less available venture capital is leading to a contraction in the sector, with countless alt-meat and dairy companies conducting layoffs, declaring bankruptcy, and even folding altogether. Enter Ahimsa Companies, a newly formed investment group acquiring promising but distressed plant-based brands. This isn't charity, though. Ahimsa's belief is that, with their consolidation strategy and pooled resources, these brands that are built on a strong underlying product can become profitable under the Ahimsa umbrella. As Ahimsa CEO Matt Tullman says in this conversation, pendulums swing, and many of these companies can be brought to profitability, meaning they could ultimately be sold at a much higher price than their valuation during this period in which plant-based products are in the valley. So far the company has acquired Wicked Foods, Simulate's Nuggs, Blackbird Pizza, an Ohio plant-based foods manufacturing plant, and more. Matt is a man of many talents, as you'll hear in this episode. In addition to being CEO of Ahimsa Companies, he founded and sold his own education tech company, and is also the co-founder and CEO of Outlier Health, the parent company of supplement company Complement and of No Meat Athlete. He's both a missionary for plant-based lifestyles and a mercenary seeking to combine his passion for plant-based foods with profit. Discussed in this episode Ahimsa Companies is looking for plant-based startups to acquire. Here's an analysis of their strategy and history. Interview with Matt in which he describes Ahimsa's goal by declaring that “we've got to step up and try to help these companies survive.” Story about Ahimsa's acquisition of the Plant Plant in Ohio. Both Paul and Matt are interested in AI's potential to enable human-nonhuman communication, something Noa Weiss discussed on a past episode. Matt recommends reading both The Hard Thing about Hard Things and The Surrender Experiment. Matt also recommends Paul Graham's essay, Do Things That Don't Scale. More about Matt Tullman Matt is the co-founder and Group CEO of the Ahimsa Companies – a private equity firm acquiring and operating best-in-class plant-based food and manufacturing companies. He is also the co-founder and CEO of Outlier Health, the parent company of Complement and No Meat Athlete, which have served nearly 13 million people just in the past three years. He's also an investor in health/food/bev startups, and a contributor to Inc. Magazine. Previously Matt founded a ed-tech firm that was ultimately acquired by Stride Education (NYSE: LRN). Matt is most proud of bootstrapping a business that was named to the Inc. 500 list of fastest growing companies in 2021. He has dedicated his career to growing nutrition-first health companies to help catalyze the movement to a plant-based lifestyle for the mainstream consumer.

It can be terrifying to reinvent yourself and then need to tell other people -- whether it be your work or your coworkers, your significant other, or your family members -- that you are trying to do something different or you want to go in a different direction. Those moments are real and they happen to all of us. And today's guest, Anita Rombough, will help you walk through these one by one. As a gentle yet bold change agent, Anita helps fellow big-hearted dreamers discover and align with their soul or “sole” purpose to achieve their version of Soulful Success, the sweet spot where personal fulfillment meets impact and financial prosperity. If you recognize this ache that so many people are feeling towards wanting more, but not necessarily more stuff, not necessarily more money, but more life, more joy, more connection and more love – this episode is for you. Anita says she's done a lot of things – her current career is a reinvention. Her love language is soulful success. So many of us have kind of chased that path of “should”, have gone through the motions of what we think the definition of success should look like. “We're putting all this emphasis on the external part, right, like what we call ourselves at work,” says Anita. “We judge each other based on that, you know, our paychecks, what kind of flashy things we have, all those kinds of labels and accolades. … But I also, more importantly, want to feel fulfilled and impactful.” Anita says this is what she unlocks for people, but to do that, she needed to go through it herself. She has three psychology degrees, and she was an occupational therapist. But she wanted more. She went back to school and got her MBA then worked in the corporate world for 10 years. “I couldn't help but think, is this it?” She realized the one piece she hadn't integrated yet was her spiritual and intuitive background. “My background is Indian. I come from this rich ancestry of yoga and meditation and, you know, all this, this beautiful goodness that I embodied on a daily basis, but not for the external world to see.” She says there's also those expectations and pressures from your own heart. Especially as women, we get trained at a very young age not to listen to that soft voice, because it usually tends to make other people uncomfortable. To take a stand for the softest voice in the room can be really challenging. It's a skill like any other that we have to practice and learn how to lean into. Entrepreneurship, reinvention, pivoting, whatever life choices you make, if they're different, it's not for the faint of heart. But it is so liberating when you can march to the beat of your own drum and just and find your own path. Anita says it's key to listen to your energy, which is like your gas tank. You always want to keep it on high. It's about elevating your vibration, tuning into your emotions, your energy. That is the clue that you're heading in the right direction. Today, I'm excited to introduce a new format for our episodes! Once a month, I plan to discuss personal development books I've read, driven by three key reasons: To potentially inspire you to read these books. To offer insights for application, even if you opt not to read them. To aid my integration of the lessons into my life. Our first book is The Surrender Experiment: My Journey into Life's Perfection by Michael A. Singer. This book is a memoir, but to me, it's also a way to show and express what it means to let go of personal preference and surrender to the flow of life. His journey is so inspirational and I am excited to share my insights with you. Book overview: The experiment begins with him deciding to let go of personal bias and preference and allow life's flow to guide his decisions. His experiment led to deeper connections and unexpected opportunities. Surrendering encompasses a few key aspects: Trusting in a greater process and purpose. Active engagement. Emotional openness. Aspects of letting go: Release attachments. Healing and renewal. Personal decision. My takeaways: The power of surrender Living beyond our personal preference The role of meditation Viewing challenges as opportunities Having inner peace no matter what is happening in the outer world Favorite quotes: “The natural ups and downs of life can either generate personal growth or create personal fears. Which of these dominates is completely dependent on how you view change.” “Instead of viewing the flow of life as something to be controlled and manipulated, I would relax and see it as something to be experienced and harmonize with.” “I saw that if I wanted life to be a certain way, my preferences were not going to make me happy, they were going to make me miserable.” “Life doesn't just randomly fall apart now and then, it falls apart exactly when it needs to in order to give us the opportunity to grow and evolve.” “I've had to be willing to let go of what I wanted and open to what was being presented.” How I'm applying it in my life: Turning my daily practice of breathwork and meditation into a devotion. Embrace new opportunities while staying in line with my values. Daily mindfulness activities. Letting go of resistance and discomfort. Continue to view challenges as growth opportunities. Journal prompts: What areas of your life are you trying to control the most? What fears are driving this need for control? Try to recall a time when something didn't go as planned, but turned out better than expected. What did this teach you about the outcomes of surrendering? What does surrendering mean to you? How does it differ from giving up? What are your thoughts on viewing challenges as growth opportunities? Do you like this idea or do you feel resistant to it? If you feel resistant, can you identify a current challenge in your life and look at it from the perspective of how this could be a growth opportunity for you? How can you incorporate the practice of surrender into your daily life? Are there any specific rituals or reminders that you can set for yourself? One of the most confusing parts of taking the Surrender Experiment to real life was: does this count as surrendering? I kept second guessing myself on every decision I make and every action I take, until I realized that the “test” is simple. Whether you are truly surrendering was never about which action you take. #retireearly #firemovement #financialfreedom #personalfinance

In today's episode, Brandon decides to jump into his time machine and shares an episode from 2018. In it, Brandon has been highly impressed by the writings of Michael A. Singer, having referenced and recommended his book The Untethered Soul several times, and now, having just finished Michael's book The Surrender Experiment, is motivated to talk about the concept of ignoring our personal preferences to allow instead for life's natural course to unfold, which in Michael's case resulted in attaining the ultimate flow state and extremely inspiring results. In this episode of Stay Grounded, my guest is Amish Shah, a serial entrepreneur, and a passionate producer of a new documentary - The Natural Law - a powerful film that highlights the healing power of Ayurveda. After crashing and burning out as a serial entrepreneur, he became incredibly ill and battled serious health issues for over a decade. His failure within the conventional medical system led him to India in search for holistic ways of healing, which is where he stumbled into Ayurveda. Amish studied Ayurveda intensely, met with global experts, and began applying its teachings. He experienced a gentle yet profoundly transformative healing crisis. Finally his symptoms resolved and he felt better than ever - with many friends saying he looked like he was aging backwards. In this episode, Amish breaks down what Ayurveda is, how to get the most out of this ancient technology, and what could be possible for your health by incorporating a more holistic approach.Key topics discussed:• Amish Shah shares his story of how he discovered Ayurveda, the ancient science of life, and how it helped him heal from chronic health issues.• Amish explains the basics of Ayurveda, such as the three doshas (Vata, Pitta, and Kapha), the five elements (Ether, Air, Fire, Water, and Earth), and the importance of balance and harmony in the body and mind.• Amish talks about his documentary film, The Natural Law, which showcases the benefits of Ayurveda for various conditions, such as cancer, thyroid, autism, ADHD, and more.• Amish reveals his morning ritual that helps him stay grounded and focused every day, which includes gratitude, tongue scraping, oil pulling, massage, exercise, meditation, and breath work.• Amish discusses the role of community in healing and how he created a platform called Liberate to connect people with holistic practitioners and modalities.Consider this podcast as “Ayurveda for Dummies.” When I began recording this episode, I knew nothing about Ayurveda and left feeling empowered to take my first steps. I hope this episode empowers you with the information you need to explore its potential in your own life. Resources and tools mentioned in this podcast:• The Surrender Experiment by Michael A. Are you like me (and most people) in that you have strong attachments to things going the way you want them to go? Consider the areas in your life where you may be holding on too tightly and trying to control the outcome. What would happen if, instead, you chose to surrender and trust the flow of life just a little more? Last week I mentioned that I was re-reading one of my favorite books, Michael A. Singer's The Surrender Experiment. And I've noticed that I've been struggling to surrender lately, so I thought I'd share my journey of getting to a place of surrender with you today. You'll learn why surrendering isn't about sitting back and doing nothing. When we actively choose to surrender to the flow of life, we often find clarity, peace, and unexpected opportunities. This means there is less stress from trying to control everything and more joy from experiencing the genuine moments life offers. KEY TAKEAWAYS It's not about the events in life, it's about how you interpret them. The power of looking at challenges as opportunities for growth. The key to unlocking our potential often lies in places we least expect. The tighter we hold, the more we lose. Dance with life's rhythm, don't dictate it. Why letting go leads to deeper connections.
