Ep. 189 - The Infatuation has become an influential food voice over the past few years, thanks in large part to their widely used #EEEEEATS hashtag on Instagram. But what few of their fans realize is, just like Zach, their founders got their start in the music industry. Andrew Steinthal and Chris Stang created The Infatuation while working at major record labels in New York. Ep. 184 -Writer Allen Salkin is this week's podcast guest, and we change things up a bit. Normally we talk to a chef about music or a music about food, but this week Zach goes off script a bit to chat mostly about the food business. Salkin's New York Times article about New York food blogging in 2007 put Midtown Lunch on the map, so the conversation starts there, before veering into the Food Network (he wrote the definitive book on the subject), the Jonathan Gold documentary City of Gold (which both he and Zach are in) and then at the very end they talk a little about music.

Ep. 167 - EDM fans need no introduction to this week's guest, the legendary DJ/Producer and founder of Dim Mak records, Steve Aoki. While food fans have likely heard of his equally legendary father and founder of Benihana, the late Rocky Aoki. Ep. 164 - If you are a Walking Dead fan you know this week's guest Emily Kinney as "Beth" but did you also know that she's a super talented singer/songwriter? Ep. 162 - Bob Marley's son Rohan stops by the podcast to tell us his entire life story, from Jamaica to Miami (where he went to the same high school as Zach) to playing football, then back to Jamaica- where he now owns a huge plot of land where coffee is grown.  He has since started Marley Coffee, which he also tells us all about.  

Ep. 161 - This week's podcast guest is Michael Cimarusti, the chef of Connie & Ted's and Providence (which is widely considered the best restaurant in Los Angeles.) We talk to him about reggae (he did a reggae college radio show) and the Grateful Dead, plus argue about whether or not Miley Cyrus has ruined the Flaming Lips.  He tells us about the time John Paul Jones ate at Providence and about Dock to Dish, the new sustainable seafood CSA for restaurants he helped bring to the west coast.  WARNING: This podcast has some serious man on man bonding between Michael and our guest co-host Jeff Miller (L.A. editor of Thrillist).  

Ep. 160 - From A Tribe Called Quest to Chef, Jarobi White returns to the podcast for a second time.  Since we talked to him last year he's started a new company (Eats, Rhymes, Life), was part of the Black Chef Series at BluJeen in Harlem, started a Tribe Taco Tuesday in Bed-Stuy Brooklyn, and was back in L.A. for Labor Day Weekend hosting a BBQ w/ Roy Choi at the Line Hotel in Koreatown.  We talk about all that and Star Wars.

Ep. 156 - This past weekend Zach went up to S.F. for Outside Lands, and for the third year in a row we recorded a special podcast from the festival.  This year we were excited to partner with Chefsfeed who let us hang backstage at their GastroMagic stage, eating drinking and interviewing people all weekend long. Ep. 155 - Rocker and former Runaway Lita Ford is this week's podcast guest, in advance of her appearance on Chopped.  We learn all about her childhood, how she learned to cook Italian from her mom and learned to fish and hunt from her Dad.  She tells us about all the McDonald's she ate as a member of the Runaways, and how she always felt pressure to stay as thin as the rest of the girls in the band.  Then we talk about the Rock Stars episode of Chopped airing August 18th on the Food Network. 

Ep. 154 - Serious Eats grand poobah Ed Levine is this week's podcast guest.  He recently sold the website to FEXY, and the story of the last 8 years is fascinating.  But even more fascinating was the music career he had before becoming a food writer.  A career which took him from L.A. to Iowa to New York City, and then into the studio with Dr. John.  And we get Ed to tell us the story from the very beginning. Ep. 153 - Emily Saliers is not only one half of the folk rock duo the Indigo Girls but she's also a longtime restauranteur and a self proclaimed lifelone foodie.  We talk to her about her 18 year old Atlanta restaurant Watershed, its storied history, and its famous fried chicken.  Plus she admits to her love of HoJo's clam strips before Zach comes out at the end of the show as a proud Indigo Girls fan.  

Ep. 152- Next Food Network Star Aarti Sequeira is this week's podcast guest, but just as a warning- she and Zach spend most of the first half hour of the show talking about a Twitter war Zach got into with another food writer a week and a half ago (a topic Aarti discussed on the most recent episode of the podcast she does with her husband Brendan McNamara called Pass the Salt.)  Once they get through that, Zach asks her what music she listened to growing up in Dubai, what similarities she sees between Next Food Network Star and American Idol, and how these days food personalities are probably criticized more for selling out than musicians. Plus we talked with her about Tori Amos' aura, and the awesomeness of Guy Fieri.  

Ep. 151 - This week's guest is Chef Charlie Ayers, who was not only the original chef at Google but was also one of the Grateful Dead's personal chefs from 1990 to 1995. He sat down with Zach on the Monday after the Grateful Dead's 50th Anniversary Fare Thee Well shows in Santa Clara (which Zach went to in search of fatty egg rolls.)  They talked about the shows, the he time spent cooking for the Grateful Dead, and how that prepared him for Google.  He also told us about the time he caught Bono raiding his fridge, shared Jerry's favorite hot dog condiment, and confirmed that fatty egg rolls were a thing on tour and not a figment of Zach's imagination.
