Welcome to Season 5, Episode 11! We love dumplings, and we're not alone in that opinion. We're talking about asian dumplings… boiled, steamed, pan-fried, or deep-fried, there are a variety of dumplings all across Asia, and they are not only delicious but represent culture, family, and history. In this episode, we discuss the history of dumplings, some different types across Asia, and some notable chefs and groups (like Din Tai Fung) who have done a lot to grow awareness and love for this amazing food. One of the most notable, of course, is Zhang Zhongjing, the believed creator of dumplings. In our recurring segment, we introduce a new topic called Weird History where we talk about a weird moment in API history. Today we're talking about the Boston Marathon's ban on Korean runners. JD and Denise have a fun chat with husbands Mike and Chih, aka: The Dumpling Dudez (on social media). They talk about how the company came about, how Covid actually excelled their business, causing them to streamline and use social media more seriously. That, in turn, made them realise they could give up "corporate" life and pursue the dream of doing what they were passionate about and playing to one another's strengths in the business together. Now, they're making a huge, exclusive announcement about the direction they are heading as they prepare to leave Texas and head to Portland. To watch this on our YouTube Channel, click this link.

Kristina Cho and Bryan Ford have a lot in common. They're both children of immigrants, third-culture kids who got into food not through restaurants or culinary school, but by launching their own blogs. They dreamed of quitting their day jobs so they could write about food full-time. And when they took that plunge, they wrote debut cookbooks that explored baking traditions that have long gotten short shrift in American food culture. This fall, Kristina and Bryan have each released their second cookbooks, where they're getting more personal, and more in-depth, about the subjects that matter most to them. Kristina's new book is Chinese Enough: Homestyle Recipes for Noodles, Dumplings, Stir-Fries, and More, and Bryan's book is Pan y Dulce: The Latin American Baking Book. We're giving away one copy of each book! In the streets of Regency London, the young servant, Elizabeth Fenning, faced a sinister charge - attempted murder by poison. Accused of lacing her employer's dinner with arsenic, the 21-year-old cook quickly found herself trapped in an increasingly lopsided courtroom, where any hope of the justice she had held whilst awaiting trial seemed to recede with every new witness brought to the stand. The case caused widespread public consternation and outrage that lasted months, coming close to sparking riots in the streets, as the debate raged on, that never truly ended.
