C-C-C-COMBO BREAKER!You thought we were going to keep talking about awful things that are kind of objectively bad, huh? Not this time! Killer Instinct released in 1994 in arcades, and home consoles (SNES) in 1995. Sure, there were a lot of other fighting games at the time. Sure, Alex mentions Mortal Kombat 300 times during this episode. But why not - you can't talk fighting games in the 90s without Mortal Kombat's specter looming overhead.Anyway, we talk about the characters, the production history, the sound design, and probably something completely off-topic, I have no idea. Musical parody was around long before Weird Al released his first album in 1983, but no one has done it better than Mr. Yankovic. His musical talent, smart lyrics, and unique sound has allowed him to stay relevant for 35 years. Colin hosts as the cast plays a little “Name That ‘Original’ Tune” with “Weird Al” sound bites to showcase the breadth of work. It’s truly amazing. Alex has a special connection with Bob Ross, so he leads the look back on his life. The gang discuss their memories of Bob, how he adopted his “wet-on-wet” technique, and the legacy that he created. Amidst a changing culture, rising competition, and more complex characters and stories, The Man of Steel was no longer as relevant as he once was. So, the writers at DC Comics decided to draw up plans to take him down and go in a different direction.
