I really enjoyed my time chatting with Hector Silva. Hetor has taken the initiative in creating an online Industrial Design course. His course 'Offsite' is targeted at people from all levels of Industrial design, spanning a non-designer to a seasoned professional. During the podcast he discusses perceived limitations with current university education, offering his course as a solution. Further, he highlights the future of education and how he sees evolving technologies such as AI and VR becoming more integrated. In this episode, guest host Sean ZImmerman Wall sits down with Hector Silva Peralta. Hector is an ACMG Apprentice Ski guide based in Chile, living the endless winter between Chile, Canada and Alaska. Héctor grew up in the mountains , close to portillo ski resort, where he started skiing at a very young age. His longtime commitment to the heli-ski, backcountry skiing, and avalanche industries has given him the opportunity to spend the last 6 years training in professional environments and continuing his professional development through mentorship initiatives in both British Columbia and Alaska. One of his primary focuses is further developing the avalanche and ski industry in Chile following the Canadian and US industry's best practices. Alongside other avalanche professionals in Chile, he is working to create a non-profit organization called Chile Avalanchas, that is aiming to save lives through avalanche education. Hector is also a professional member of the Canadian Avalanche Association and professional member of the American Avalanche Association.

This episode is a continuation of the conversation I've had with Hector Silva and Mauricio Garcia Villaseñor about NFTs. We talked about how NFTs started and how it gained so much popularity within last few months, how it has impacted the digital art world as well as our environment, actions we need to take from an individual, corporation, and government level when it comes to a new disruptor like NFTs, and lastly, we discussed what we envision the future of the art world might look like in the next few decades. You will be hearing the second half of our conversation on NFTs in this episode, and you can catch the first half of our conversation in Part I. You can find Hector Silva on Instagram at @hectorius_, Mauricio Garcia Villaseñor @mau_g.v, and Advanced Design @adv_des. You can find more information about Advanced Design at https://advdes.org/. In this episode, I spent some time talking to two of my favorite designers, Hector Silva and Mauricio Garcia Villaseñor from Advanced Design about a topic that’s been trending in the digital art world for the last couple of months—NFTs. Mr. Hector Silva, a local Belizean historian, gives us a brief overview of his contribution to Belize's development and some of the reasons why Belize is still a largely undiscovered territory. He was one of the first ministers of government, serving as the minister of public works, public utilities, and communication. He was responsible for bringing essential utilities and infrastructure throughout the country as Belize developed through self-government and then as an independent nation. Don Hector, as he is affectionately known, tells us about the seven wonders of Central America and why the town of Corozal in northern Belize is an important mecca for the modern Mestizo race. Tune in to hear don Hector tell some of the untold history of Belize.
In this episode, I talk with Hector Silva, Founder of Advanced Design & Research Associate Professor at the University of Notre Dame about the future of design education and bring value to design communities. The diverse team is comprised of a number of versatile young designers that take on graphic design, marketing, event planning, and other roles to develop SQ1 each year. Their focus has allowed them to host their first two wildly successful SQ1 conferences within 10 months of one another—pulling attendance from a total of nearly 1,000 people in the first year they’ve held the annual conference with an international audience to boot. Since 2016, AD and SQ1 have expanded beyond sketching and continue to push their message forward through education in the advancement of various design and communication practices.

IDSA IDC SPECIAL: We had the pleasure of speaking with RIT Industrial Design Professor Alex Lobos, who was in town for IDSA’s International Design Conference. Alex started his career in graphic design, but was always a maker at heart, and eventually moved to industrial design. Born and raised in Guatemala, he qualified as a Fulbright Scholar, which led him to attend the University of Notre Dame for graduate school. Alex has interned at Whirlpool and worked at General Electric after graduate school. After his time at GE, he worked as Visiting Professor at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where he met Hector Silva, who he inspired to also become an educator. After UIUC, Alex found his calling at the Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT), where he is now a Full time Professor of Industrial Design, Graduate Director, and Fellow-In-Resident for Autodesk. Alex is a one-of-a-kind educator, and we hope our listeners will get an opportunity to meet him at one of our events! Thank you @lobosdesign for being amazing and inspiring so many! If modifications of Einstein’s general relativity do exist in nature, could they leave observable imprints in astrophysical systems and in gravitational wave observations? Hector Silva, a postdoctoral research associate with the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign's Department of Physics discusses his observations specifically as it relates to black holes and neutron stars. A native of Brazil with a PhD from the University of Mississippi, Silva earned the Gravitational Wave International Committee-Braccini Thesis Prize for his thesis “Compact Objects in Relatavistic Theories of Gravity."

El Salvador's National Civilian Police, especially a 1,000-man military-police hybrid unit, has killed hundreds of alleged gang members this year. Many appear to be extrajudicial executions. Demands to do something about the country's brutal gangs has created a climate in which top officials have green-lighted a culture of human rights abuse. Two Salvadoran journalists, Hector Silva of Fáctum and José Luis Sanz of El Faro, have broken the most important stories about police death-squad activity. Here, they discuss their findings and the difficulty of doing this work in El Salvador today.
