The Holiday season is here, and what a better way to celebrate than with rock and blues legendary guitarist, Gary Hoey! Gary just released a new album for Record Store Day (2023): Hark the Ho Ho Hoey Hits. Plus he has begun his holiday Ho Ho Hoey tour. This episode of our show is all things Christmas and holidays, with a little added spice by Gary. In 1993, Gary Hoey got well known with his remake of Focus' "Hocus Pocus". He then followed that with the Endless Summer 2 soundtrack and in 1997 with one of his first big Christmas hits: "You're a Mean One, Mr. Grinch". Gary one time auditioned for Ozzy Osbourne, when Ozzy was searching for a replacement for Jake E. Lee, but the job went to Zakk Wylde. Now after 30 years and 24 albums, Gary is still considered one of today's most acclaimed guitarists.
Join Chris and Amy on Kmox for a festive discussion about gearing up for the holidays with musician Gary Hovey. Gary shares insights into his love for Christmas music, preparation for his upcoming live holiday show at the Wildey Theater on December 6, and his unique approach to blending rock and roll with traditional Christmas melodies.
From the very start of our Hope For The Holidays campaign, guitar great Gary Hoey has provided the soundtrack...and his Ho Ho Hoey albums have provided tons of people with Christmas music that most decidedly does not suck!!And, frankly, it doesn't feel like the holidays until we talk to Gary....and we checked that off of our list today!!
World-renowned guitarist Gary Hoey delivers everything a fan could hope for.Named one of the top 100 guitarists of all time, Gary thrills his audiences with action-packed shows that draw on his 22 albums, extensive touring, and mastery of the electric guitar.A driven songwriter, player, producer and teacher, Gary has worked with great artists across all generations, like Brian May, Ted Nugent, Joe Satriani, Kenny Wayne Shepard, Joe Bonamassa, Eric Johnson, Steve Vai, Beth Hart, Eric Gales, Peter Frampton, Johnny Winter, Ally Venable, Quinn Sullivan, Robben Ford, Jeff Beck, Lita Ford, Roger Daltrey, Dick Dale and many more.We chat with Gary about his first new Christmas song to be released since 2013. Gary has always loved classical composers like Tchaikovsky so he created a rockin' version of the famous Sugar Plum Fairy from The Nutcracker. He played all the instruments on this song. The artwork for the single was created by Doug Long from Orange Blossom Junction in Visalia, CA. A man with many talents, Doug always created the best posters for his venue and this was one of them. Doug's love for music was as big as his heart for people. It was an honor to play there over the years. He always treated musicians like family. This single is in his memory (RIP 1952-2018).To follow The City's Backyard Podcast to see more pics of our guests click on the link:https://www.facebook.com/thecitysbackyardTo follow Gary Hoey click below! https://www.facebook.com/garyhoeyofficialpagehttps://garyhoey.com

In this special Christmas episode we talk about the one the only Gary Hoey!! One of the supreme guitarists of our time. In this incredible and informative episode we talk about:
What would the Christmas season be without chatting - and hearing a little guitar playing - without Gary Hoey? It would be like last year, and no one wants that again! Gary talks about great venues he's played, participating in Band Camp and doing Master Classes. He gives an update on the upcoming Lita Ford album and lots more. Then, around the 17:00 mark, it's Soraia lead singer, ZouZou Mansour. She was on the show a few months back and they've done a ton since. She talks about the tour they did and recording on the road. There's a guest on at least one track from their upcoming album, and that's just for starters. Enjoy! -Meltdown- http://garyhoey.com/ https://www.soraia.com/ https://wrif.com/podcasts/talkin-rock-with-meltdown/

(12/11/19) - It doesn't feel like Christmas without some Ho-Ho-Hoey! The guitar virtuoso talks holiday season, history, Ozzy, Neon Highway Blues and much more
Gary Hoey calling and talked with Don about his Ho HO Hoey Tour. You can find tour dates here garyhoey.com/tour/World renowned rock guitarist Gary Hoey’s first break came in 1987 when Ozzy Osbourne liked Hoey’s tape enough to fly him to LA for an audition. Although Zakk Wylde wound up with the gig, Ozzy recommended Hoey move to LA where he was certain he would get noticed. So he did - thanks Ozzy - and it paid off. In 1992 Gary’s cover of “Hocus Pocus” rocketed into the Billboard’s Top 5 Rock Tracks.
Lots to get to today on Talkin' Rock. Another two for the price of one....and this is a free podcast! Gary Hoey is up first. He tells me about new Christmas music coming, but we might have to wait. His music is become a tradition for so many people this time of year. We talk about his latest blues album and what he might be doing next year. Also, we had to talk about the album he's been working on with Lita Ford for the past few years. He tells me about her plans as far as releasing it goes, and what the album entails. We talk about his 2020 plans and his thoughts on a guitarist that was recently on the podcast. Around the 17:40 mark it's yacht rock legend, Michael McDonald. He was so much fun to talk to! We talk about his love of Motown, recent gigs he played in Nashville, one by surprise. He tells me his thoughts on the Rock N' Roll Hall of Fame nomination. Remember the TV commercials, SNL skits and scene in the 40 Year Old Virgin? Yeah, we talk about that too! What's his favorite duet? He answers that as well. Al Beck swings by for Rock News with special guest, That Metal Show's, Don Jamieson. Don recently made some big news revolving around comments Mick Mars made on the show about the last Motley Crue tour. We discuss a band that's reuniting, but not playing as many dates as was reported on the interweb. David Lee Roth takes credit for a lot of stuff on the first VH album, and a documentary that Dave Grohl is pushing. For me the holiday season is a time to decompress from the busy fall and get ready for the spring. This year it is very hard for me to be excited about Christmas. I cannot believe another year is gone. I'll save the introspection for next week's podcast.
