We take a listen to the title track, No Way To Live as well. Join us as we talk Rock and learn all about Colossal Street Jam!Rock and Roll music that DESERVES to be heard! Here's a little background on the band:It's once been said that all roads lead to home… That's precisely where this long-time band of brothers & creative soulmates found themselves, when their well-traveled musical roads converged. It was at this poignant juncture that COLOSSAL STREET JAM was born. One may define their electrifying synergy as the cosmic melding & explosive concoction of abstract minds, unique talent, inherent soul, and tireless passion for their beloved craft. Having a deep & mutual admiration for one another, as well as having tremendous respect for their many, and diverse collective influences, who helped shape their gritty, melodic, psychedelically tinged hard rock stylings, each member truly brings their own individuality, and nuance to the mix. An eclectic potpourri for the senses, CSJ ultimately, and seamlessly fuse their independent ideas to deliver a singular vision & signature sound that can easily be coined as “New Classic Rock” for the ages. This hard-driving, 70's inspired, 5-piece ensemble is comprised of Gene Potts (vocals)… Sal Marra (guitar/vocals)… Tony Flora (bass)… Dave Halpern (drums)… and Eric Safka (keys). With their roots firmly planted and their musical heritage tightly in place, CSJ has long been an integral part the legendary Asbury Park, NJ music scene. Always proud to honor these roots, and the place that gave them their start, the band forever carries with them that feeling of tradition, and heart that has endeared them to growing audiences both nationally and internationally. In 2016, the band's release, “Living Free”, was met with critical acclaim and worldwide press. The albums single, “Songbird” received extensive radio airplay both locally, and globally. In 2018, that same record won an award for Australian Indie Album of The Year For Internet Radio. It subsequently remained on the Indie charts, Down Under, for 6 months. Later that year, in November of 2018, CSJ released their follow up album, “Just Take Hold”… Once again, they were greeted with extensive Indie and College radio airplay for that record's namesake single, “Just Take Hold”, as well as for their cover version of the Sugarloaf classic, “Green Eyed Lady”. In May and December of 2019, CSJ completed two successful European tours, which journeyed them throughout The Netherlands, Belgium, and Germany. COLOSSAL STREET JAM has shared stages nationwide with the likes of Mark Farner, of Grand Funk Railroad, Robbie Krieger of The Doors, The Black Crowes, Kings X, Stone Temple Pilots, Rival Suns, Blackberry Smoke, The Drive By Truckers, The Hold Steady, Gov't Mule, Johnny Winter, Sebastian Bach, Bruce Dickinson, Screamin' Cheetah Wheelies, Ritchie Blackmore, Steve Morse, Zebra, Deep Purple, Leslie West, Clarence Clemons, and countless others.

We are hangin with  Hoey while he drops by The City's Backyard to chat  about his 2023 Spring/Summer tour in this episode! Rock guitarist Gary Hoey has worked with legends like Joe Perry, Roger Daltrey, Yes, blues icon Johnny Winter, Robben Ford, Leslie West, and KISS drummer, Peter Criss. And he has toured and traded licks with the likes of Jeff Beck, Brian May of Queen, Ted Nugent, Joe Satriani, Steve Vai, Peter Frampton, and Dick Dale. With a collection of 21 albums it's no wonder Gary Hoey is listed as one of the top 100 guitarists of all time.  The world renowned rock guitarist's first break came in 1987 when Ozzy Osbourne liked Hoey's tape enough to fly him to LA for an audition and encouraging him to move to the West Coast. In 1990 Hoey was signed to Reprise Records with a short lived band called Heavy Bones but followed up in 1993 with a solo album and Gary's cover of “Hocus Pocus” rocketed into the Billboard's Top 5 Rock Tracks.  He went on to score the successful “Endless Summer II” soundtrack for New Line Cinema and in 1995 started a trilogy of “Ho!Ho! Hoey,” a collection of instrumental Christmas classics that continues each year in his Rockin Holiday shows.  And in 2013's “Deja Blues” he came home to the blues.  Gary's release in 2016, “Dust & Bones,” displayed an exuberant fusion of blues and rock. But whatever style he plays, one thing is certain, Gary Hoey is a fiery, charismatic player who connects with the crowd.Whether he's playing scorching originals or classic rock covers, his solos are thrilling and reminiscent of Clapton or Stevie Ray in their fiery youth. One thing that remains consistent is Hoey's impassioned command of the guitar. He can attack his instrument with feral intensity and then play something very soft and achingly beautiful. This ability to mix feeling, phrasing, technique and tone is the true mark of a master guitarist.http://garyhoey.com

He has received multiple gold records, several Juno Awards and was given the Bonzo Bash Legend Award in 2014. Corky's album, the Toledo Session was released on CD in late 2019 and re-released on vinyl in 2020. She had saved them all. The letters were a way for Corky, away on the road for years on end, to keep in touch with his roots and also, to make sense of his life. This continues in Letters to Sarah, as Corky relives the first 50 years of his life, up until his mother's passing in 1998.   FOR MORE INFORMATION ABOUT CORKY LAING VISIT www.corkylaingworks.com Official website www.facebook.com/corkylaing Facebook www.instagram.com/corkylaing Instagram https://playinggodrocks.tumblr.com/tuija_bio Tuija Takala     2023 TOUR DATES Corky Laing & the Bobos (Conny Bloom, Maria Hänninen, John Vihervä & Harri Väyrynen) 5/16/2023 Odal Rock Club, Austvatn, Norway 5/17/2023 Melodybox, Stockholm, Sweden 5/18/2023 Backstage Rock Bar, Trollhättan, Sweden 5/19/2023 Bomber Bar, Motala, Sweden 5/20/2023 Rockland, Sala, Sweden Corky Laing's Mountain 8/31-9/3/2023 Nene Valley Rock Festival, Peterborough, UK   Discography With Mountain Studio albums Climbing! On this episode of the Adventures of Pipeman, Pipeman speaks to Steve Luongo, someone Pipeman is super excited to be interviewing and it makes for an awesome interview. Steve starts with why he's here today, to talk about the John Entwistle Rarities Oxhumed - Volume One, which is a collection of never heard before music, and they decided it was time for the world to hear them, especially with dans pleading with him to put some material out for the last couple years. Pipeman compliments the album cover, which he feels the younger generation are missing out on, and Steve agrees and talks about how the album cover and visuals was all you could go on for when you were buying an album. They move onto the concept of the album which Steve worked on with John's son Chris who he is close with.Steve talks about the double edge sword he feels since John passed away, saying he still feels connected to him, but because their friendship was so long distance, he's used to the absence of him. He continues to talk about his relationship with John and how they became connected so closely. Steve talks about the new album, saying he could have taken the live performances and cleaned them up but that's not true to the performances. John may have hit a bad note here or there, but the energy and the performance is really what people want to hear. He also says there's tracks they weren't going to do anything with which he decided to include in volume 1 too, as well as a song with Keith Moon. The best place to find the new album would be to go to johnentwistle.com, where you'll be able to find a number of collectables, and will also be the place to find Volume 2 when that comes out too!JOHN ENTWISTLE‘S RARITIES OXHUMED - VOLUME ONE, FEATURING UNRELEASED AND REMASTERED STUDIO TRACKS, DEMOS, AND LIVE RECORDINGS IS COMING OCTOBER 21ST. PREVIEW TRACK “I'LL TRY AGAIN TODAY” IS OUT NOW.Steve Luongo has produced, performed, and recorded with several well-known artists including Leslie West of Mountain, Cream bassist Jack Bruce, Eddie Money, Alan Parsons, Todd Rundgren, Heart's Ann Wilson, Ritchie Blackmore, Mark Farner, Joe Walsh, Billy Squier. The most prolific and significant of all his work was with John Entwistle, best known as the iconic bass guitarist for The Who. The two musicians became the best of friends. Luongo produced, performed, co-wrote, and toured with The John Entwistle Band until Entwistle's death in 2002. Their last live performance together was in Japan during the A Walk Down Abbey Road tour. Later that year he was invited by The Who and Entwistle's family to write and read the eulogy at Entwistle's memorial service in London. In 2007, Luongo served as producer and composer for a studio band he created with AC/DC bassist Cliff Williams, in which Williams recruited frontman Brian Johnson as the vocalist. The project later known as Forklift gave birth to 7 tracks. "Chain Gang on the Road" was the only track offered by the quartet and was briefly available for a free download during a run of US tour dates in 2007. In 2012 Luongo began a musical partnership with Cheap Trick vocalist Robin Zander by forming The Robin Zander Band. Zander was among the first to be asked to appear in Luongo's documentary film An Ox's Tale - The John Entwistle Story about the late John Entwistle (https://youtu.be/PwZrLRBkAfk)John Entwistle is best known as the legendary bassist for the Who. Nicknamed the Ox and Thunderfingers, Entwistle's music career spanned over four decades and he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame as a member of the Who in 1990. Renowned for his musical abilities, he was voted as the greatest bassist of all time in a 2011 Rolling Stone magazine readers' poll and in its special "100 Greatest Bass Players" issue in 2017. Bass Player magazine named Entwistle at number seven.Rarities Oxhumed - Volume One is the first in a series of posthumous releases coming from John Entwistle as part of a new partnership with Deko Entertainment and longtime friend and collaborator Steve Luongo. This first one has unreleased and remastered studio tracks, demos, and live tracks with gems like “Bogey Man” featuring Keith Moon, “Where You Going Now” (demo for the Who), and a raw live version of “Trick of the Light” recorded during the John Entwistle Band's final tour in 2001. We will also take you behind the scenes with an expanded booklet with never-before-seen photos and a look into life on the road with John Entwistle. As Steve Luongo comments, “John and I began touring together in 1987. Every tour was more fun than the last. That was the idea. Play loud aggressive rock & roll, have fun, laugh our asses off, travel to the next gig, and repeat. During the 15 years that we worked together as a rhythm section, we remained true to that cause. Along the way we recorded some records and created a sizable catalog of ideas and material for the future. The future is now.”The album cover concept was conceived by Steve Luongo and Chris Entwistle (John's son). It gives a nod to John's dark sense of humor and includes many of John's favorite things. The two also worked with celebrity designer Queenie (Katy Perry, Miley Cyrus, Cardi B) to create two commemorative pieces of jewelry based on the Entwistle Crest. These are limited to only 300 each of both a necklace and keychain. As Deko president, Bruce Pucciarello, states, “Hearing the foundation of sound that John Entwistle provided Pete Townshend on Live at Leeds was transformational for me. Watching Steve find these never heard gems from John's career and making them available to the public is an honor for everyone involved.” The first preview of what's to come is the remastered release of “I'll Try Again Today.”Take some zany and serious journeys with The Pipeman aka Dean K. "This band has no past" was the first line of the farcical biography printed on the inner sleeve of Cheap Trick's first album, but the band, of course, did have a past—a past that straddles two very different decades: from the tumult of the sixties to the anticlimax of the seventies, from the British Invasion to the record industry renaissance, with the band's debut album arriving in 1977, the year vinyl sales peaked.“This Band Has No Past: How Cheap Trick Became Cheap Trick”, featuring a foreword by Pearl Jam bassist Jeff Ament, tells the story of a bar band from the Midwest—the best and weirdest bar band in the Midwest— and how they doggedly pursued a most unlikely career in rock'n'roll. It traces every gnarly limb of the family tree of bands that culminated in Cheap Trick, then details how this unlikely foursome paid their dues—with interest—night after night, slogging it out everywhere from high schools to bars to bowling alleys to fans' back yards, before signing to Epic Records and releasing two brilliant albums six months apart.Drawing on more than eighty original interviews, “This Band Has No Past: How Cheap Trick Became Cheap Trick” is packed full of new insights and information that fans of the band will devour. How was the Cheap Trick logo created? How did the checkerboard pattern come to be associated with the band? When did Rick Nielsen start wearing a ballcap 24/7? Who caught their mom and dad rolling on the couch? What kind of beer did David Bowie drink? And when might characters like Chuck Berry, Frank Zappa, Don Johnson, Otis Redding, Eddie Munster, Kim Fowley, John Belushi, Jim Belushi, Elvis Presley, Leslie West, Groucho Marx, Robert F. Kennedy, Patti Smith, Andy Warhol, Lou Reed, The Coneheads, Tom Petty, Harvey Weinstein, Michael Mann, Linda Blair, Eddie Van Halen, Elvis Costello, Matt Dillon, and Pam Grier turn up? Read “This Band Has No Past” and find out and you may even get an answer to a few of those questions today with our guest Brian J. Kramp.I also ask Brian a question that has nothing to do with Cheap Trick or rock and roll, but the paranormal. Here is what his bio says: "Brian J., short for Brian James, hails from Waukesha, where he was raised in two houses, one across the street from a bowling alley, the other haunted. The bowling alley was the Sunset Bowl, where Cheap Trick were ‘discovered' by Jack Douglas. Douglas also happened to be the name of the ghost: a seven-year-old boy, one of the previous owner's nine children, who fell off the roof of a neighborhood building."In the mid-nineties, Brian attended the University of Wisconsin in Madison, where it seemed like every other person he met had a great Cheap Trick story and was eager to tell it. The band were legendary in that town, icons already, and for Brian, an ardent rock fan and budding record collector, Cheap Trick pressed all the right buttons. Thirty years and thousands of records later, here we are: Brian is now the proud author of this, his first book, about his favorite band.Brian has lived in Queens, New York, and Austin, Texas, but now resides near Madison with his wife and daughter. We had the opportunity to have a bit of an extended chat with Dee Snider. Brad spoke with him about two tracks he takes part in for the new Leslie West (Mountain) tribute album. The conversation soon turned to a place where Dee opened up about how he felt when he was informed that Ukrainian troops were blasting 'We're Not Gonna Take It' in response to the Russians invading their country. He also broke some news by telling us that he had a part in convincing Arnold Schwarzenegger to make a video addressing both Ukraine and Russian citizens.  "Legacy: A Tribute to Leslie West" is available now. Another killer episode of Talkin' Rock. This time it's Dee Snider, along with Phil X and Kurt Deimer. Dee's up first talking about the Legacy: Tribute to Leslie West album. He talks about their friendship, meeting Leslie for the first time and all the rock giants that are on this album. We talk about the Station nightclub fire that happened 19 years ago. Dee was involved in a fundraising event as well as a documentary. He also answers the question of what people might misconceive about him. That was interesting.  Then - around the 17 minute mark - it's Phil X and Kurt Deimer. Their album is Work Hard, Rock Hard. We talk about the record, those guys meeting for the first time, Geoff Tate singing on a track and more. Phil tells me about his time in Triumph, filling big shoes in that band and Bon Jovi and lots more. Enjoy! -Meltdown- https://kurtdeimer.com/ https://wrif.com/podcasts/talkin-rock-with-meltdown/

Mark Stein is one of the founding members of the Vanilla Fudge, one of the most iconic bands of the 1960s. He played organ and sang lead on one of the best rock songs ever recorded,  the Fudge's version of “You Keep Me Hangin' On”.  Mark and I have a ball talking about how the Fudge came to be, their music, their appearance on Ed Sullivan, his love of The Rascals and Leslie West and the Vagrants, and what it was like to be right smack in the middle of the musical, cultural and fashion revolution of the 1960s. Then of course we do a Songfest where we play and talk about some great Fudge tunes. A totally psychedelicly delicious episode! In the second half of the show Mark and Robert do a Songfest focusing on 4 of the great songs recorded by the Fudge.   KEY TAKEAWAYS: If something is what you really want in the deepest part of your soul then you must persevere with your blood and guts.
