We've all been waiting for this mini-series and we are very happy to announce that it doesn't disappoint! When Jessica and Lila discover a dead body behind the Dairi Burger, Liz is convinced something wicked this way comes. But Jessica's more concerned with allegedly hot newcomer Jonathan Cain aka Pob 2: The Revenge. Will her unhinged plan to win his heart succeed? Meanwhile Liz once more proves herself to be the world's worst friend as she ignores poor Enid in favour of banging on to Maria about Joey who we regret to inform you is hanging around like a bad smell. And to our great joy we meet… the gothic gang. Hell yes. We're celebrating our 10th anniversary all year by digging in the vaults to re-present classic episodes with fresh commentary. Today, we're revisiting our 2021 conversation with Steve Perry. ABOUT STEVE PERRYOne of the most iconic voices in rock music history, Steve Perry is best known as the lead singer of the band Journey during the group's most successful period. His first Top 20 pop hit as either a performer or songwriter was the solo-written “Lovin', Touchin', Squeezin',” which became a hit for the band in 1979. In the following decade he co-wrote an unbelievable streak of classic songs with Neil Shon and Jonathan Cain, including “Any Way You Want It,” “Who's Crying Now,” “Open Arms,” “Separate Ways,” ”Send Her My Love,” and “Don't Stop Believin',” a single that's been certified five times platinum. His 1984 debut solo album Street Talk produced the classic singles “Oh Sherrie” and “Foolish Heart.” After penning additional Journey hits “Be Good to Yourself,” “Girl Can't Help It,” and “I'll be Alright Without You” he departed the band and released his second solo album, For the Love of Strange Medicine, featuring the single “You Better Wait.” After briefly reuniting with Journey and co-writing the additional hits “When You Love a Woman” and “Message of Love” in the mid-1990s, he stepped away from recording. Steve returned in 2018 with his third solo album, Traces. In 2021 he released his fourth solo record, a holiday collection called The Season, produced by Steve and Thom Flowers, and featuring contributions from multi-instrumentalist Dallas Kruse. The Rock & Roll Hall of Famer, whom Rolling Stone magazine named among the “100 Greatest Singers of All Time” joins us to talk about exploring the great American Christmas songbook from a writer's perspective, to share some stories about his own songs, and to offer some insight into his approach to the craft.

In an effort to release all of his Almost Famous-era rock and roll interviews from his time as a music critic at The Baltimore Sun, Nestor Aparicio found an October 1989 chat with legendary keyboardist Jonathan Cain, just as his new band Bad English was approaching Hammerjacks. Some Steve Perry chatter here from four decades ago as Journey has gone its separate ways into the wheel in the sky of Rock and Roll Hall of Fame immortality. The post Faithfully taking a 1989 Journey with open arms back to era of Bad English with Jonathan Cain first appeared on Baltimore Positive WNST.

This week, I am joined by Joe Bonamassa, and we're diving into the stories behind the songs from throughout his entire discography. We also discuss: his collection of over 650 vintage guitars; his use of volume swells in his music (for example his solo in the title track to “Blues Deluxe,” the song that introduced me to his music); his approach to cover-songs such as “Sloe Gin” (originally written by Bob Ezrin & recorded by actor & singer Tim Curry) and “Prisoner” (originally recorded by Barbara Stresiand); his approach to unique live albums, including his latest release "Live At The Hollywood Bowl w/ Orchestra;” his release of "Better The Devil You Know" (a song he co-wrote with Journey's Jonathan Cain) to celebrate the 10 year anniversary of his “Different Shades Of Blue” album; his musical / career expiration date; his Journeyman LLC venture, which is currently focused on Joanne Shaw Taylor & Robert Jon & The Wreck, and more!

That would suggest she's keeping the $5.6 million ring Ben Affleck gave her. That would give Jennifer a $17 MILLION collection of engagement rings . . . the most expensive being the $6.5 million blue diamond she got from Marc Anthony. Here's the breakdown of J-Lo's collection: 1. Ojani Noah: $130,000. J-Lo married him in 1997, and divorced him in '98. 2. Cris Judd: $200,000. He married Jennifer in 2001. They divorced in 2002. 3. Ben Affleck: $2.6 million. Ben slipped this first engagement ring on J-Lo's finger in 2002. They never made it to the altar. They broke up in 2004. 4. Marc Anthony: $6.5 million. They got married in 2004 and stayed married until 2011 . . . a virtual lifetime for Jennifer. Along they way they had twins, Max and Emme, who are 16 now. 5. Alex Rodriguez: $2 million. He popped the question in 2019, but they split in 2021, without ever saying "I do." 6. Ben Affleck, Mark 2: $5.6 million. Total value: $17,030,000. AND THAT IS YOUR CRAP ON CELEBRITIES! Journey's Neal Schon and Jonathan Cain have been butting heads for years. But somehow, when it comes to the band, they've always managed to coexist. But those days might be over. The band has canceled the U.K. and Ireland leg of their 50th anniversary tour. They cited, quote, "circumstances beyond the band's control." They didn't elaborate any further, but the news broke earlier this week that Cain was suing Schon for allegedly misusing the band's American Express account. On the 54th Episode of the Album Review Crew of Shout It Out Loudcast, Tom, Zeus & special guest, Trixter, Fozzy and Kuarantine's bassist, PJ Farley review the 1981 legendary album by Journey, "Escape." Escape was Journey's first album with songwriter and keyboardist Jonathan Cain. Journey now featured their classic lineup, with legendary singer Steve Perry on vocals, Neal Schon on guitar, Ross Valory on bass, Steve Smith on drums and the previously mentioned Cain on keyboard who replaced founding member Gregg Rolie. Escape propelled Journey into superstardom with legendary tracks like, "Don't Stop Believin'", "Who's Crying Now" and the dictionary definition of a power ballad, "Open Arms." With the help of shows like The Sopranos, Glee and more the songs have been intertwined with pop culture. The album has gone diamond, selling over 10 million copies and the album made it to Number 1 on US Billboard album charts. The album was produced by Mike Stone and Kevin Elson and is Journey's most successful selling studio album. As usual the boys breakdown and dissect the tracks and rank the songs. They then rank the album and the album cover against the previous 52 albums reviewed on the Album Review Crew. This was the Patreon pick. So tune in to find out do the guys slow dance to Open Arms or what would happen of David Lee Roth became Journey's singer. In today's message, we draw inspiration from Journey's 1981 hit "Don't Stop Believin'," rooted in keyboardist Jonathan Cain's personal struggles and his father's advice to keep believing in his dreams. This timeless message resonates with anyone facing life's challenges. Similarly, in John 11, Jesus addresses both physical death and disbelief when raising Lazarus, teaching us that faith must be cultivated daily. As Paul emphasizes in 1 Corinthians 9:26-27, disciplined faith prepares us for life's challenges. Join us to learn how to live by faith and keep believing in the dreams God has placed within us.

On this episode I chat with Jonathan Cain from TREE Fund. TREE Fund, which stands for Tree Research and Education Endowment Fund, is a national nonprofit that among many tree related things, distributes scholarships to college students who are going into the tree care industry. Their biggest fundraiser is the Tour des Trees. Each year they host this fully supported multi day bike tour for about 100 riders. This year in late September riders will pedal about 425 miles in the Southern New England area while attending outreach events along the way. You can be part of Tour des Trees as a rider, or donate to the cause at tourdestrees.org. Jonathan is going to give us some great highlights about the bike tour, and also all about TREE Fund.

John Waite was in The Babys, out front of two pop hits that both peaked at No. 13 on the Billboard Hot 100, ("Isn't It Time" and "Everytime I Think of You") His solo career started with a really good but forgotten 1982 debut album Ignition, which produced the single "Change". It didn't chart on Billboard's Hot 100 during its initial release (June 1982) but was #16 rock track on AOR radio stations and was produced by the great Bob Clearmountain. And Patty Smyth sings background vocals on "Change" But it was the album No Brakes that gave him his career a real path to moving forward. "Missing You" went to No. 1 on the US Billboard Hot 100 singles chart and the album was a top 10 record. We spend our time digging into his often-overlooked career. A guy with a distinctive voice that rocks. “Perched perfectly between anthemic mainstream rock and sleek post-new wave pop, it was a minor miracle -- a flawlessly written, classicist pop song, delivered with a stylish, MTV-ready flair. It deservedly became not just a number one hit, but one of those records that everybody knows” -- Stephen Thomas Erlwine / allmusic.com Waite had two more singles from No Brakes, including "Tears" which was a #8 hit on the Billboard Mainstream Rock chart and #37 top 40. His next album had a single, "Every Step of the Way" that got radio play (#4 rock charts and #25 top 40 and would be his last top 40 hit. He did join former Babys bandmates Jonathan Cain and Ricky Phillips, along with Neal Schon and drummer Deen Castronovo from Journey, to form Bad English and the 1989 ballad "When I See You Smile" went to No. 1 on Billboard's Hot 100 and the album sold nearly two million copies. I didn't love that band, but I've always had a spot for John Waite in my rocker heart. He kept going after the band broke up. But he keeps going. Waite is not always the first thought as a terrific rock band frontman - but he was - and is. He is still on the road. A singer who fronts a band like someone who wants to be there. Who has been there. He's 72 years old. He's on tour as I recorded this, with dates booked well into 2024. One who is worth mentioning if you talk about great rock and roll frontmen of the past, for like 50 years. He's a rock and roll lifer still working. There is honor in that. *** Read Rob's current and archived writing at rockforwardmusic.com WEBSITE: rockpopandroll.com EMAIL: rockpoprollpodcast@gmail.com SUBSCRIBE: Apple Podcasts Spotify Google Podcasts
If you are going to have a successful marriage, then you need to master conflict resolution. But there are two big obstacles to resolving conflicts in your marriage: Nearly 70 percent of the conflicts in relationships center on unresolvable, perpetual problems.Men and women approach and handle conflict very differently. As a result, a lot of marital conflicts end up at an impasse. What's the answer?Dr. Emerson Eggerichs says that the answer lies in Ephesians 5. Metallica was a big deal well before the release of this album. Singer and guitarist James Hetfield and drummer Lars Ulrich had formed the band a decade prior to this fifth studio release, technically called Metallica but most commonly referenced as The Black Album due to its all-black cover. Hetfield and Ulrich, together with lead guitarist Kirk Hammett and bassist Jason Newsted were successful commercially and critically on the strength of previous albums, particularly their third (Master of Puppets) and fourth (...And Justice for All) studio releases. However The Black Album would be their most successful album release, and the second longest-charting traditional title release in history, behind only Pink Floyd's "Dark Side of the Moon." Metallica is one of the founding bands of thrash metal, and had a reputation for musicianship that was both fast and complex. The Black Album saw the band developing a slower, more refined sound with singles that were shorter and tighter, making them more accessible to a general audience. Hetfield also sought to create songs with a less "scream-heavy" vocalization. The result of their efforts was both their first number one album on the charts, and an album filled with some of their most well-known singles. The album is more heavy metal than their previous releases, but still retains a thrash metal edge.Metallica would go on from success to success, never really seeing their international fame fade. This album marks the point where the band had learned to master both their musical craft and their stage craft. John Lynch brings us this landmark heavy metal album. Enter SandmanThis track was the first single, the first song written for the album, and the last to receive lyrics. Hammett wrote the primary guitar riff after being inspired by Soundgarden's Louder than Love album. The original lyrics were much darker, referencing sudden infant death syndrome, and Lars Ulrich and producer Bob Rock encouraged Hetfield to rework them .Sad But TrueThe fifth and final single from the album was originally written in the key of E. When the producer pointed out that every song on the album was written in E, the band tuned down to D for this track. The idea for the lyrics about blind faith were inspired by the 1978 film "Magic" in which a ventriloquist is controlled by his puppet. The UnforgivenThe second single is a heavy power ballad about the struggles of the individual against an all-powerful machine-like force holding him captive. It has a softer style than most Metallica songs, and allows Hetfield's vocal musicianship to shine through. Two sequel songs would be released on future albums.Nothing Else MattersHetfield did not intend to release this song, but wrote it for himself when feeling homesick on tour. Ulrich encouraged him to include it in the album, and it is one of their biggest hits. While originally written about a girlfriend, the song has become a reference to Metallica's fans on tour. ENTERTAINMENT TRACK:Lets Work Together by The Kentucky Headhunters (from the motion picture “Harley Davidson & the Marlboro Man”) This movie was a biker film with Don Johnson and Mickey Rourke in a Western style. STAFF PICKS:She's So High by BlurWayne is well known for his affinity to the Manchester psychedelic sound. However, this group with the Manchester sound is actually from London. While the song would appear to be about drugs, it is actually a reference to a girl who is out of the singer's league. Blur hit number 48 on the UK single's chart with this release.Straight to Your Heart by Bad EnglishRob's staff pick was written by Jonathan Cain for this supergroup formed from members of Journey and The Babys. John Waite's distinctive voice is clear on this hit from their second and final album, but it also maintains the rock sound. Face the Music by RTZ Bruce shares his take on this group formed by Brad Delp and Barry Goudreau, originally founding members of the group Boston, along with Brian Maes on keyboards, Tim Archibald on bass, and David Stefanelli on drums. This single is off RTZ's debut album "Return to Zero." While this song only went to number 49 on the US pop charts, the success of RTZ would convince Delp to leave Boston, only to return to the group a couple of years later.Crazy by SealLynch's staff pick is about the days when the Soviet Union was collapsing and the Berlin wall came down. English singer songwriter Seal brings a haunting, smooth sound. “In a sky full of people only some want to fly, isn't that crazy?” INSTRUMENTAL TRACK:Sunshine by Timbuk 3The group best known for “The Future's So Bright I Gotta Wear Shades” penned this steel drum-laden instrumental.
Many folks know that the Southern rock band Lynyrd Skynyrd came out of Jacksonville, Florida. But they weren't the only big southern rock band to arise from that city. Molly Hatchet was another southern rock band from Jacksonville, also sporting three guitars. The band formed in 1971 and shares a lot of the inspiration and influence of Skynyrd. their best selling album was their second one, Flirtin' with Disaster, which peaked at number 19 and became a 2x platinum seller in the United States. The name of the band comes from the legend of a Salem-era prostitute who supposedly mutilated and decapitated her clients. The band was not only famous for its music, but for its album cover art. Fantasy artist Frank Frazetta created the cover, depicting a Viking-like warrior with a winged helmet and battle axe. Personnel for Flirtin' with Disaster included Danny Joe Brown on vocals, guitarists Dave Hlubek, Steve Holland, and Duane Roland, Banner Thomas on bass, and Bruce Crump on drums. While Flirtin' with Disaster is the band's most successful album, they also found considerable success with the eponymous debut album released prior to Flirtin' and the third album, “Beatin' the Odds,” released with new front man Jimmy Farrar who replaced Danny Joe Brown who left for a number of reasons including diabetes. The band would not achieve similar success with its future albums, though Brown would return to the band by their fifth album. Molly Hatchet remained a popular touring band, though today all the original members have died. Friend of the show Craig Dale joins us as Wayne brings us this Southern rock classic for the podcast. Let the Good Times RollWhile this may be considered a deeper cut, the track which closes out the album did receive significant airplay on rock stations when the album came out. “Give me wine, women, whiskey and rock 'n' roll and let me sleep my days away.” Flirtin' with DisasterThis is the timeless classic from the album, the title track, and the opening song for side two. Although this is considered their breakout hit and highest charting, it only went to number 42 on the Billboard Hot 100. The song has been used in a number of films and television shows including Suspect Zero, Straw Dogs, My Name is Earl, and King of the Hill.Good Rockin'This deep cut is one in which all band members share writing credits. It was not released as a single but did appear as a B-side to their second single, “It's All Over Now.” It is simply a straightforward rock party song - “So if you're feeling good, if you feel alright we're going to have a rock 'n' roll time tonight.”Whiskey ManThe leading track from the album is a well-known Molly Hatchet song, though it failed to chart. It is an anti-drinking song in which the lyrics discuss the hazards of alcohol. “You start to get straight, then you get weak, can't you see you're on a losing streak?” ENTERTAINMENT TRACK:Coal Miner's Daughter by Loretta Lynn (from the motion picture “Coal Miner's Daughter”)Sissy Spacek won the Academy Award for her portrayal of Loretta Lynn in this biographical drama. STAFF PICKS:Back On My Feet Again by The BabysBruce brings us the number 33 hit by John Waite and the Babys - their fourth and final top 40 hit. This is off their album “Union Jacks.” They opened for Journey on tour, and their keyboardist, Jonathan Cain, would wind up joining Journey when the Babys broke up. What I Like About You by The RomanticsRob presents a party song that got a lot of airplay with a 50's/60's feel. It was written in 1979 and it came out on the debut album from the Romantics. The lead singer, Wally Palmar, is the drummer for the group. The song only made it to number 49 on the US charts, but its garage band feel and party credentials have given it a timeless quality that fares better the longer it is around.Magic by Olivia Newton JohnLynch tests Wayne's patience with this number 1 hit from Australia's own Olivia Newton John. It was recorded for the soundtrack to the 1980 musical fantasy film “Xanadu” and was released as its lead single. The song was written by John Farrar who wrote a number of Olivia Newton John's hits.Goodbye Blue Sky by Pink FloydFriend of the show Craig Dale brings us a haunting tune from the Pink Floyd album “The Wall.” This track reveals how the horror of war and the blitz formed a brink in the wall of isolation the protagonist forms in his descent into madness. The child speaking at the front of the song is actually band member Roger Waters' son, Harry.Rockin' Heaven Down by HeartWayne closes out this week's podcast with his favorite Heart song from the album “Bebe Le Strange.” The track features Nancy Wilson starting the song on a 12-string electric guitar, and Nancy Wilson's fierce vocals. “Hoot into the night, that look from eye to eye, a flash gets passed around, a band of wild angels rockin' heaven down.”
I love this festival! I love playing music at this festival. I love bringing my family. I love the community. I love this festival! Of these 25 years of Lifest, I have been to 17 of them in Oshkosh, WI. In 2000 I was there to play with Echelon. 2004 - 2007 I played with Second Adam. 2008 I played with Echelon & Lynn Stoneking. And from 2012 - now, I have driven the 1300 miles up to play with Echelon, Lynn, Swen & Dean, and Jonathan Cain of the Hall of Fame rock band Journey. I've played Electric, Acoustic, Mandolin, Bass, and Drums. I ‘ve been an artist on their Grandstand, Edge, Pit, Kid Zone, Prayer Journey, Expo, and Bonfire stages. I have been the most used artist every year I've been there… and I love doing. But what shenanigans happened this year? Is it okay to teach your kid how to do a B & E? Why was Matthew West throwing Cheese Curds? Does Lifest hate TV's? How awesome was it to play on the grandstand again? Is there a reason we need a keeper of the keys? What does it mean to pull a snake? And… sketchy trailers… Well, we're not going to Mexico. Well we will discuss this, and more on this group therapy session with Owen, on the Tweed Couch. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/tweedcouch/support

It's time to travel back to 1980 as we're joined by our good friend Al Horta (Be Cool or be PodCast Out!) to discuss two seminal works of art: Journey's Departure and Caddyshack (yes, an album AND movie review!). We also discuss why Neal Schon isn't recognized more as a guitar god, Greg Rollie vs Jonathan Cain, the time Eric had to hide in a closet from an angry husband, the time Eddy took a fraternity paddle into a hot tub, the majestic power of wood-paneled walls and sweet lovemaking, Journey tunes that metalheads would like, how Caddyshack is an anarchistic and politically-incorrect comedy that would be impossible to make today, and we might even talk a little KISS, so grab a few beers, your swimming trunks and some cocaine and get ready to party! In this episode WE'RE ALL GONNA GET LAID!!!

By 1983 Journey had achieved huge success and had finally settled on a stable lineup with Steve Perry on vocals, Neal Schon on guitar, Jonathan Cain on the keys, Ross Valory on bass and Steve Smith on the drums. 1981's Escape would eventually go diamond (10 million in sales) in the US and coming off the tour to that megahit, they needed to bring the goods to follow it up. And did they ever on 1983's Frontiers with Separate Ways, Send Her My Love, Faithfully and After The Fall. It went on to sell over 6 million in the US - but could it have been bigger? Two songs that were intended to go on the album were pulled in favor of b-sides so that Ask The Lonely could be used on the Two of a Kind soundtrack in 1984 and Only The Young was part of the Vision Quest movie in 1985. They became big hits on their own but would their inclusion on Frontiers have propelled it to diamond status? Would that have delayed or accelerated Steve Perry's solo career? We go track by track on all of them and examine the turmoil in the band over the years. What a fun way to start 2023!!
