This week's Blues is the Truth is packed with soul, grit and powerful music from across the blues spectrum, hosted as always by Ian McHugh. There's a heartfelt tribute to the legendary Joe Louis Walker, who features heavily in the show, and Ian also brings news about two outstanding new blues films you won't want to miss. Musically, it's a journey through classics and new favourites, including the raw emotion of John Primer and the powerful collaboration between Kenny Wayne Shepherd and Bobby Rush. Katie Bradley and Chris Corcoran light up the speakers with their distinctive style, and we've got searing guitar work from the likes of Eric Clapton, Popa Chubby, Matt Schofield, Robin Bibi, Sean Chambers, and Eric Johansen. The iconic sounds of Muddy Waters, T-Bone Walker, Charlie Musselwhite, and the Vaughan Brothers sit comfortably alongside the soulful voices of Janiva Magness, Kyla Brox, Lou Pride, and Ally Venable. There's also music from Darcy Perry, Jordan Officer, and a brilliant track from Joe Louis Walker that reminds us just how much he's shaped the modern blues landscape. Don't miss this emotional, exciting and expertly curated episode. As always, like, follow, share, subscribe, and leave a review—it all helps spread the blues even further!

Expectations are there to be defied. Glass ceilings are there to be shattered.Having spent the past decade carving out her own unique space in the male dominated world of blues-rock, Ally Venable's combative sixth album, Money & Power, demands more of both – for herself, for women around the world, and for anyone else who thought they weren't worthy of a seat at the table.Money and power make the world go round. But in the right hands, music can be every bit as potent. Right now, on the heels of 2023's acclaimed Real Gone – an album that hit #1 on the Billboard Blues Charts and was still in contention a year later – Ally is rated amongst the best young singer-songwriters in American roots, saluted by Total Guitar Magazine in its poll of Top 100 Blues Guitarists. www.allyvenableband.comOur Sponsors:Taco Cat Goat Cheese Pizza & the Case of the Missing Hat:www.dolphinhat.com/product/taco-cat-goat-cheese-pizza-graphic-novelLucid House Press: www.lucidhousepublishing.comWhispers of the Flight: www.amazon.com/Whispers-Flight-Voyage-Cosmic-Unity-ebook/dp/B0DB3TLY43The Crown: www.thecrownbrasstown.comBright Hill Press: www.brighthillpress.orgWe Deeply Appreciate:UCLA Extension Writing Program: www.uclaextension.eduMercer University Press: www.mupress.orgThe Red Phone Booth: www.redphonebooth.comNPR: https: www.npr.orgWUTC: www.wutc.orgAlain Johannes for the original score in this show: www.alainjohannes.com_______________________________________________Dante's Old South is produced by Michael AmideiThe host, Clifford Brooks', The Draw of Broken Eyes & Whirling Metaphysics, Athena Departs, and Old Gods are available everywhere books are sold. World-renowned guitarist Gary Hoey delivers everything a fan could hope for.Named one of the top 100 guitarists of all time, Gary thrills his audiences with action-packed shows that draw on his 22 albums, extensive touring, and mastery of the electric guitar.A driven songwriter, player, producer and teacher, Gary has worked with great artists across all generations, like Brian May, Ted Nugent, Joe Satriani, Kenny Wayne Shepard, Joe Bonamassa, Eric Johnson, Steve Vai, Beth Hart, Eric Gales, Peter Frampton, Johnny Winter, Ally Venable, Quinn Sullivan, Robben Ford, Jeff Beck, Lita Ford, Roger Daltrey, Dick Dale and many more.We chat with Gary about his first new Christmas song to be released since 2013. Gary has always loved classical composers like Tchaikovsky so he created a rockin' version of the famous Sugar Plum Fairy from The Nutcracker. He played all the instruments on this song. The artwork for the single was created by Doug Long from Orange Blossom Junction in Visalia, CA. A man with many talents, Doug always created the best posters for his venue and this was one of them. Doug's love for music was as big as his heart for people. It was an honor to play there over the years. He always treated musicians like family. This single is in his memory (RIP 1952-2018).To follow The City's Backyard Podcast to see more pics of our guests click on the link:https://www.facebook.com/thecitysbackyardTo follow Gary Hoey click below! https://www.facebook.com/garyhoeyofficialpagehttps://garyhoey.com

Making a Scene Presents an Interview with Ally VenableTexas blues-rock singer/songwriter and guitarist extraordinaire, Ally Venable, entertains wherever she goes. With her signature glitter dresses and black knee-high boots, Venable comes off of the ropes swinging dazzling crowds on tour or throughout the festival circuit. "Venable pulls off a stunner of gritty and/or sultry blues rock tunes embellished with lots of tasty guitar solos." - Guitar Player Magazine. A Kilgore, Texas native, Ally began singing at church at four and picked up the guitar at age 12. By 13, she started her own band and through her early influence of Stevie Ray Vaughan captured the passion and yearning for more in the blues genre.
Happy Birthday to the insanely talented blues artist Ally Venable, who turns 24 today! Ally, whose musical gift is deeply embedded in her soul, has been performing, singing and shredding for almost a decade now -- having first picked up a guitar when she was only 12 years old. Her latest album, Real Gone!, is a stunning collection of inspired songs and also serves as a fitting tribute to many current blues legends. A seasoned road warrior herself, Ally, who comes from a long line of Texas blues guitarists including her idol and inspiration, Stevie Ray Vaughan, is fortunate to count the incomparable Buddy Guy as a mentor — and she performed as part of the Blues legend's Farewell Tour this year. As one of Guitar World Magazine's "15 Top Young Guns," Ally is a beacon for young female guitarists and is very serious about her place as a role model for those just coming up -- she loves to be an inspiration to others and "to be part of their journey." We explore her inspiration, musical background, what it means for her to be truly at home on stage. So grab a seat on the Roadcase bus and help us celebrate Ally's birthday on this week's episode of Roadcase! For more info:https://allyvenableband.com/For more information on Roadcase: https://linktr.ee/roadcasepod and https://www.roadcasepod.comContact: info@roadcasepod.comRoadcase theme music: "Eugene (Instrumental)" by Waltzer

Sue Foley, Dallas ManThe Swamp Stompers, Goin' Down SouthJohn Mayall w Mike Campbell, Chills and ThrillsSaverio Maccne, Endless Nights BluesDion, Red HouseDion, I Got My Eyes On You BabyKentucky Headhunters, Cup of TeaKentucky Headhunters, How Could IThe Lumineers, BrightsideStarlite Campbell Band, Said SoAlly Venable, What Do You Want From MeAlly Venable, Do It In HeelsSarah Shook & the Disarmers, Talkin' to Myself
Make It UpCruzados, Nine Million TearsSamantha Fish, FasterNathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats, Love Me Till I'm GoneMike Younger, Baby What Can I SayAlly Venable, Hateful BluesTroy Wilson & Aaron Gillett, Blues In The DarkDavy Knowles, One & The SameArchie Lee Hooker & The Coast To Coast Blues Band, My BabyLake Street Dive, Know That I KnowStarlite Campbell Band, Stone Cold Crazy

Making a Scene Presents an interview with Mark LeClerc From Fuel Junkie!Since its formation in 2014, Fuel Junkie has revealed itself as one of the most promising upcoming artists on the Montréal blues scene. Passionate about the blues at a very young age, Mark LeClerc founded the group with close friends met during his music studies. Singer and composer of the band, he came up with the idea of a saxophone section brought to the spotlight by modern arrangements.Selwyn Birchwood,01 I'd Climb Mountains,Living In A Burning HouseThe Reverend Peyton's Big Damn Band,Ways And Means,Dance Songs For Hard TimesAJ Crawdaddy,Love & War,John Nemeth,Throw Me In The Water,Stronger Than StrongJohn Pagano Band,LOVE,SingleTrevor B. El último disco de AJ Croce contiene piezas memorables como un blues de Brownie McGee y Sonny Terry y otra de los Faces. Y de bonus, Marc Ribler, estupendo shattered.⦁ Marty Stuart, I've Been Around ⦁ John Mellencamp, Them Double Blues ⦁ Shawn Camp, I'm Comin' Honey ⦁ Hard Working Americans, Big Hearted Girl ⦁ AJ Croce, Better Day (w Robben Ford) ⦁ AJ Croce, Stay With Me ⦁ Bones Owens, Lightning Strike ⦁ Bones Owens, When I Think About Love ⦁ Pete Yorn, Here Comes Your Man ⦁ Pete Yorn, They Don't Know ⦁ Pete Yorn, Life On a Chain ⦁ Elizabeth Cook, Perfect Girls of Pop ⦁ Maple Run Band, You're Gonna Make Me Cry Again ⦁ Maple Run Band, Keep On Truckin ⦁ Ally Venable, Road To Nowhere (Feat. Making a Scene Presents an Interview with Aris Paul! You'd be hard-pressed to find another band that embodies Pittsburgh Rock and Southside Blues like APB...Aris, Aaron, and Matt refer to what they do as "red-eyed, road rock" - and that's accurate. It's a culmination of fierce guitar, moving bass lines, and remarkably technical drumming that evoke bands of yesteryear while throwing in some jam-ish nuances. Their music has the gypsy soul of the Allman Bros., the blues swagger of Freddie King, the rowdy rock 'n' roll of the Stones, and the heavy metal roar of Hendrix and Sabbath. Spanning funk to country, hard rock to blues, APB puts on a rock show that has opened them up to the national spotlight and allowed them to tour the country and work alongside the likes of the Way-Down Wanderers, Joanna Shaw Taylor, Eric Sommers, Joshua Davis, Ally Venable, Raelyn Nelson (Willie Nelson's granddaughter), and many, many more.

You Hear Georgia⦁ The Steel Woods, All of Your Stones ⦁ Mayeux & Broussard, Leavin' Losin⦁ Mayeux & Broussard, Stoned & Broke Down ⦁ Ally Venable & Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Bring on the Pain ⦁ Riley Downing, Deep Breath⦁ Harry Dean Stanton & The Cheap Dates, Promised Land ⦁ Harry Dean Stanton & The Cheap Dates, I'll Be Your Baby Tonight⦁ Adam Wright, Darlene ⦁ Charlie Marie, Heard It Through the Red Wine ⦁ Rob Leines, Heavy Load ⦁ Barry Abernathy, Birmingham Jail (featuring Vince Gill) ⦁ Mickey Lamantia, Honky Tonk Confessions ⦁ The Barlow, Homesick Gypsy⦁ Rob Leines, Drinkin' Problem

With a holiday blues track in each set, Ally Venable & Quinn Sullivan, Trey Johnson & Jason Willmon, Shemekia Copeland, Nora Jean Wallace, and JJ Grey & Mofro will take you by the arm and lead you through the hour. It's definitely an hour for the holidays, and absolutely another hour of the finest blues you've never heard.

NYC pop artist, actress and dancer Kendra Black has recently released her album The Edge produced by LA’s Trend Def Studios and co-written with Nick Nittoli and Lachi. The single from the album, ‘Rude’ features Snoop Dogg . Kendra, who trained in conservatories in France and Milan, Italy, has performed in France, Monte-Carlo, Italy, Egypt, U.S. and the Caribbean. She is currently scheduled to appear on the Richmond International Music and Film Fest in Virginia and at the BMI All Stars Showcase in Queens, New York City. Never one to stand still, she has appeared in numerous roles in New York Film Academy productions, and on Nickelodeon TV Channel, plus she designed and launched her own line of sportswear. At eighteen Ally Venable became the East Texas Female Guitarist of the year, and then came back and won again in 2015. Venable starting singing at an early age in church and then picked up the guitar, found her passion and became s a protégé of six-string blues guitar legend Lance Lopez. Now the lead singer and guitarist for her own band she has ignited excitement throughout the Modern Blues Scene. Venable’s songwriting, guitar playing and onstage performance blow away both live audiences and her record fans. She has assembled the Ally Venable Band of top notch multiple instrumentalists including bassist Bobby Wallace and classically trained musician and drummer, Elijah Owings, known as the backbone of their Modern Rockin’ Blues sound. Together, this trio has won the 2015 , 2016 and 2017 East Texas Music Awards Blues Band of the Year and has just released the new CD, Puppet Show.
Howdy 'CastFans and welcome back to another chapter in the adventures of your Amps and Axes Podcast. This episodic adventure takes us to the second biggest state in the US, a little place called Texas. It's known for its own style of blues music and has spawned at least one or two stellar guitar playing examples for sure! Today's guest continues in that tradition and has won a couple ETX music awards for her blues playing. A very nice accomplishment indeed, especially considering her age, so y'all get ready to hear from our guitar slingin' guest of the week, Ms Ally Venable. Enjoy!
Salvador Santana is a singer, songwriter, keyboardist, composer, poet and activist. The son of ten-time Grammy-winning guitarist Carlos Santana and poet/author/activist Deborah Santana, his music roots reach back to his maternal grandfather, Saunders King, an icon of American blues and his paternal grandfather, violinist and mariachi bandleader Jose Santana. Salvador began playing piano at the age of five and became comfortable with other instruments in high school. In 1999, he collaborated with his father on composing the Grammy-winning track "El Farol" on the album Supernatural. He has recently teamed up with CASA in Action and DEC Artists to create a campaign to tell immigrant stories from across the country and drive voter registration and activism to reform immigration laws. Ally Venable, lead vocalist and guitarist of the powerhouse blues rock Ally Venable Band, started young, singing in church a child. It was only recently, as a protégé of Lance Lopez, that she found her passions: the guitar, blues, and rock. She formed the band and never looked back. The Ally Venable Band has become a powerhouse in the Lone Star State and Ally was named the 2014 and 2015 East Texas Female Guitarist of the Year. Joined by bassist, Bobby Wallace and classically trained drummer Elijah Owings, it is easy to see why some people in the Texas blues community hear the future of blues when she plays. Now on tour in Texas, we are proud to introduce her to an international audience.
