Vendredi 8 novembre n'était pas une bonne journée. 400 mails en retard, un temps maussade, les travaux de peinture à la maison qui s'éternisent, 5 appels en absence de mon banquier, l'élection de Donald Trump… bref, pas la grande forme. Mais le nuage au-dessus de ma tête s'est rapidement dissipé lorsque Zouzou est entré dans ma vie. Zouzou, c'est le nouvel album de Philippe Katerine dont l'écoute nous apprend que Zouzou, c'est aussi la chienne de Philippe Katerine qui exhibe sur la pochette un ventre qu'on a une irréprissible envie de gratouiller. Un nouvel album de Philippe Katerine c'est toujours une aventure. Difficile de savoir à l'avance où on va atterir, tant le Vendéen a revêtu différentes peaux musicales depuis Les mariages chinois en 1991. Mais ce qui ne change pas au fil des années, c'est sa façon incomparable de narrer la comédie humaine. Dans Zouzou, on retrouve sa compagne, ses enfants, sa chienne, donc, sa verge, même, et on est étourdi par la virtuosité de la poésie katerinesque qui sait transformer chaque moment du quotidien - même le sac à caca de Zouzou – en poésie surréaliste. Dionysos est descendu de son Olympe, a retiré la peinture bleue sur sa peau, et il pose son regard tendre et malicieux sur l'intimité de la vie de famille et c'est drôle, émouvant, inspirant et rassurant. Philippe Katerine a déclaré à Franck Vergeade des Inrockuptibles : “On a souvent du mal à me prendre au sérieux parce que les apparences sont trompeuses.” Pourtant faire du bien aux autres, c'est une affaire très sérieuse. Alors ce soir sur Tsugi Radio, on va se faire du bien, se dorlotter, se chouchouter, et on va même, puisque Météo France annonce de la neige pour demain, rester sous la couette.

Philippe Katerine est notre invité pour son onzième album "Zouzou". Le même plaisir, pur, d'y goûter à 17 titres qui pétillent sous la langue, collent ou explosent dans le fond du palais. La même joie, enfantine, d'y trouver toutes sortes de rythmes et de couleurs. Mais aussi une mélancolie, à mesure qu'on les découvre et les savoure, de sentir qu'on s'approche de la fin du paquet. Et chaque minute de musique, en même temps qu'elle nous élance, nous atteint. Car ce qui différencie Philippe Katerine de sa chienne Zouzou (qui donne son nom au disque) c'est sans doute ça : la conscience, affutée et drôle, profondément musicale, que l'artiste a du temps qui passe. Ça m'a surpris parce que la radio que j'écoute ne diffuse que très rarement de la musique. Et puis cette reprise du titre de Bob Dylan par Bryan Ferry, et ben c'était vachement chouette. Alors je me suis mis à chantonner. Les paroles me sont revenues assez facilement. Quand j'étais adolescent, la version de Guns N' Roses cartonnait. On l'entendait partout, tout le temps. Dans mon premier groupe, Youngblood (ça ne s'invente pas), c'était un peu notre tube, suivi de près par Hey Joe de Jimi Hendrix. Il faut dire qu'on avait notre propre guitar hero. J'avais quatorze ans, lui quelques années de plus et un degré d'engagement dans la religion Rock bien supérieur au mien. S'il estimait que le concert était bon, arrivé sur le morceau d'Hendrix, il terminait son chorus de guitare avec les dents, comme l'idole, puis aspergeait sa guitare d'essence à Zippo et y mettait le feu. Un petit feu certes, mais quand même… Bref, je repense à tout ça en chantonnant Knocking on heaven's door. Ma fille se marre de me voir chanter et s'étonne que je connaisse les paroles d'une chanson, qui n'ait pas l'air d'une chanson de vieux, une chanson ringarde. Alors on se marre tous les deux et je lui raconte rapidement l'histoire. — J'étais batteur, tu sais, c'était mon métier jusqu'en 2012. Dans mon premier groupe, on jouait ce morceau. Je me souviens très bien de l'été 1992, l'été de mes quinze ans, et de la tournée du groupe dans les Landes : Vieux-Boucau, Contis, Souston… Je pensais que la gloire était à portée de main, que veux-tu… Alice sait plus ou moins tout ça, mais elle paraît surtout étonnée d'apprendre que j'aie pu avoir quinze ans, l'âge qu'elle aura l'an prochain. — What ?!? Tu partais en tournée à quinze ans ? — Ben ouais, on avait acheté un fourgon, un J9 qu'on avait entièrement repeint en violet, et tapissé de moquette rose à l'intérieur. Le bassiste du groupe était le seul à avoir le permis, et on a pris la route. C'était chouette. Ma fille me regarde maintenant comme si je lui annonçais que j'avais un passé de junkie ou l'habitude de dormir dans la rue à son âge. On termine le petit déjeuner, on monte à l'étage réveiller les petites sœurs. Ne pas perdre de temps, nous sommes lundi, c'est matin-shampooing pour tout le monde, même pour celles qui ont les cheveux très très longs. Damned… Alice leur lance : — Papa c'était une rockstar à mon âge ! Il partait en camion jouer dans des bars la nuit! Comment il s'appelle déjà le morceau qu'on a entendu ‘pa ? Pour le coup c'est moi qui explose de rire. — Je n'étais pas une rock star, Zouzou, je jouais simplement de la batterie dans un groupe de rock… Zouzou… Et le morceau s'appelle Knocking on heaven's door. Les deux frangines encore pleines de sommeil veulent maintenant des détails. — C'est vrai ? Et c'est quoi cette chanson Nocky eve bidule ? Ok. J'ai compris. Neuf heures, ma mère téléphone pour me dire qu'elle a reçu un sms de la clinique. — Ton père est au bloc depuis huit heures, à priori jusqu'à midi. On se rassure mutuellement. Aucune raison que ça se passe mal. Ça nous fait quand même drôle. Il n'était pas oppressé, pas essoufflé. Il n'a pas fait d'infarctus, mais l'opération est nécessaire. — Moi je me sens bien, mais la mécanique est fatiguée. Je n'ai pas le choix. Voilà ce qu'il a dit à une de ses anciennes clientes croisée par hasard sur un trottoir le week-end dernier. Nous y voilà, il est neuf heures et l'opération a déjà commencé. Sa seule inquiétude : — J'espère que mon cœur va redémarrer. Ils ont l'air sûr d'eux à la clinique… Je lui dis qu'il n'a aucun souci à se faire et je répète la même chose ce matin à ma mère au téléphone. On raccroche. Je continue ma route. Le voyant d'usure des freins de la Mercedes est à nouveau allumé, pourquoi ne pas filer au garage tout de suite pour avoir un avis, et le devis qui va avec. Le garagiste me fait d'emblée remarquer qu'il ne me connaît pas ce véhicule. D'habitude je viens avec le monospace familial, mais aujourd'hui c'est la Mercedes qui nécessite une visite. Je lui indique que le voyant des freins est allumé. — Les plaquettes, j'imagine, et probablement les disques, à l'avant. Le type me tend la main, j'y dépose la clef de la voiture. Il file aussitôt l'installer sur un pont élévateur. Son collègue plus grand, plus âgé, l'air débonnaire, l'aide à bien placer la voiture. Elle est maintenant à un mètre cinquante du sol. Le diagnostic peut commencer. Je ne m'attendais absolument pas à ça. Je voulais juste un avis, éventuellement un rendez-vous. Les choses ont pris une tournure différente. Josephine Baker who was the first black woman to star in a film in 1934 with Zouzou. And perhaps one of the most influential black filmmakers, Spike Lee who made his mark as a staple director with his first feature film, She’s Gotta Have It. With so many gifted black filmmakers & actors, it can be hard to narrow it down to a mere listicle; but in this episode Justin Joseph Hall and Laura Davi hone-in on some of their favorite films which also happen to focus on stories that revolve around black lives, experiences, and issues. (Spoiler alert: Spike Lee is mentioned more than once on the feature films list and throughout the podcast.)
