This week, to celebrate the 100th episode of My Weekly Mixtape, I am creating "The Ultimate Mixtape" along with 65 guest curators, all of which were either previous My Weekly Mixtape guests, friends of the show or one of the amazing Patreon Mixtapers. And, because I simply couldn't celebrate 100 episodes in one sitting, this week will consist of three brand-new episodes!  Now, to create this Ultimate Mixtape, I started by asking these 65 different people the same question: If you had to choose one song for the ultimate mixtape (any song / any genre), that would be locked away in a time capsule for others to discover years or decades for now…which song would you choose and why? Now, I'm not lost on the fact that the question is just a spin on the “desert island song” question that a lot of my guests have been asked countless times. The twist for the next few episodes is: I am taking those 65 song choices (all of which are from various bands, artists, decades, genres and tempos), and curating them into what I hope will be a properly sequenced playlist from a musical perspective!  At the very least? This was a fun & unique twist on a question as old as interviews themselves. But at its best? Congratulations, you're listening to The Ultimate Mixtape!!  Guests appearing in Vol. 1 (in no particular order): Robin Wilson of Gin Blossoms, Jim Loughlin of moe., Drew Copeland of Sister Hazel, Don Jamieson of RockStrap & VH1's That Metal Show, Coco Kinnon of Winona Fighter, Bryan Scott of Union Underground, Britt Lightning of Vixen, Sandy MacKinnon of Royal Tusk, Christian Swain of Rock & Roll Archaeology / Pantheon Podcasts, Joe Milliken, Author of “Let's Go! They tear into Disney's Snow White reboot, the breakdown of childhood classics, and Texas legislation targeting cosplay and furries in public schools. From leashes and litter boxes to mascot exemptions, the group unpacks how far it's gone—and why it needed to be legislated. Elon Musk's critics vandalize Teslas while he's labeled a villain by the same crowd pushing green energy. Then: newly uncovered Giza pyramid structures spark wild speculation about underground cities, ancient engineering, and pillow conspiracies. They cover pit bulls on cocaine, Netflix rewriting real-life murderers, and modern cults—from Jared Leto's alleged island to digital Kool-Aid drinkers. The "Black Album" was Metallica's fifth studio album. It propelled Metallica from a small, but dedicated fan base to superstardom. Led by frontman, main lyricist and rhythm guitarist James Hetfied, polarizing drummer Lars Ulrich, guitarist extraordinaire Kirk Hammet and bassist Jason Newsted. The album features five singles including a couple ballads, which were unheard of previously and the now classic, Enter Sandman. Although they did have a video for the previous album's single, "One", Metallica really utilized MTV and the music video format to propel the "Black Album." The album made it to Number 1 on the US Billboard charts and has now gone 16X platinum, making it not only Metallica's biggest selling album, but one of the biggest selling album in history. The album was produced by Bob Rock and although it may have been a tumultuous relationship, which was documented, the result cannot be denied. As usual the boys breakdown and dissect the tracks and rank the songs. They then rank the album and the album cover against the previous albums reviewed on the Album Review Crew. This was Tom's pick. Don Jamieson's latest comedy album is No Sleep 'Til McSorley's. Once again, he's modeled his latest album after a famous rock record. This time around it's Motorhead's, No Sleep "til Hammersmith. He explains why he chose that pub, and how he got permission to use the famous album cover. On the album, Don takes on many social and rock topics. It's a skill that he has where he can meld both worlds without sounding preaching or like he's taking sides. "Is there an underlying message to it? Of course there is" Don said. As far as who he takes shots at on the record, he said "Everybody gets it on the album". He said he gets a lot off his chest.  We talked about how surreal it is that we have the good fortune of getting to know our childhood rock star heroes. Don flashed back to seeing the mighty Judas Priest as a kid, with the "Metal God" Rob Halford right in front of him. He said that he'll never forget that feeling, but he's never lost that fandom. The record opens with Lemmy from Motorhead introducing it.....or is it him? He explains. You can order the album on vinyl here. Don Jamieson On Meeting Lemmy From Motorhead Don talks about meeting his idol, Lemmy several times. He said he tread lightly around the rock icon until he had his first drink with him. That was the time when he knew that he'd taken a liking to him. Has Don ever been star-struck? He had a couple of experiences that he talked about, but it wasn't with anyone in the rock world. He also talked about a few of the classic musicians he's had the chance to meet. One from the Monkees and one from Led Zeppelin.  Great to have my friend, Don Jamieson on Talkin' Rock with Meltdown.

Great to reconnect with Jeff Scott Soto. The last time I talked with him was mere weeks after we met, I believe in 2018. He's one of these guys who you just like the first time you meet him. He's so easy to talk to, which you'll see in this conversation. He's coming through town playing the Token Lounge on March 27th with The Art Of Anarchy band. He spoke about how he joined the band, which was somewhat defunct, with the help and through his friendship with Ron "Bumblefoot" Thal. The new album is out, and JSS told me that the band hasn't even played one of these songs live yet. He said rehearsals start next week, as I post this. JSS has been in many bands, but the Trans Siberian Orchestra is one he's been in for a long time. He talks about the reasons why he's jumped around to different bands throughout his career. One of the guys he plays with in TSO is Slaughter drummer, Blas Elias. Jeff talked of meeting him, and how they both have parts in the movie "Rockstar". We also talked about his 40 years in the music business! Yes, he started at the early age of 18 and was off and running with the Yngwie Malmsteen's "Rising Force" album. He said he didn't even know he got the gig until weeks later. He just did the Monsters Of Rock cruise, and along with playing many shows onboard, he did his first comedy routine. With the help of rock comedian Don Jamieson, he said it went very well. He talked about doing a similar thing with Jason Bieler from Saigon Kick. JSS said he's learned a lot from him. Jason also submitted a funny question for Jeff....LOL We talked about Queen, the documentary making "We Are The World", and more. Lots of great stories from Jeff, cannot wait to see him and Art Of Anarchy at the Token Lounge in a couple of weeks!

A few weeks back, I took a trek to Buffalo, New York to hang with my friend Don Jamieson from That Metal Show. He hosted the night at the Showplace Theater with Jack Russell's Great White. It was great to reconnect with Jack afterward. I asked Jack if he'd like to come on the podcast and he didn't hesitate.  Jack spoke of his current state of health. He had back fusion earlier this year and he's still healing up from that. He sounds a lot better these days, and his singing is still spot on.  His Great White is working on a new album that Jack says sounds amazing. That's being worked on at guitarist Robby Lochner's studio. He told me the band is clicking. "We play real well together, we all enjoy each other's company." He told me how he approaches the studio. He goes in very prepared. He also talked about what is inspiring his writing nowadays. He said it's stuff that's close to him and what he's been through. " I asked him about recording cover songs, and that led us to talk about "Once Bitten, Twice Shy" by Ian Hunter. Come to find out, he's only met the rock legend once....many years ago. He had some funny things to say about that.  He and Tracii Guns have an album dropping on December 12th called Medusa. Jack talked about wanting to record something with him for several years. He said the songs were written by some Italian producers and songwriters. He said he had to change some of the lyrics because the translation didn't work.  He and Dee Snider jammed a few weeks back at a resort in Cancun. He talked about that, and their time there.  Check out the full interview below, and a bonus conversation as well..and a big thanks to Jack for the time.
