"I will destroy you all and KISS will be my instrument." This week we discuss some ill-advised musical cash-ins starting with the made-for-tv KISS Meets the Phantom of the Park
We are going back to good ole 1978 to check out, for the first time strangely enough. The Hanna Barbera made for NBC TV film, Kiss Meets the Phantom of the Park on a Vintage Cinema Review show. I'm joined with my good pal, Buddy Corley as we sit outside in the mountains on a nice warm summer day to discuss this epic film. Something that we have talked about doing for a good long while and a movie we both had yet to actually see, even though we are huge Kiss fans for many years. Fun times were had in a classic watch, then review old school podcast. Seeing the nostalgic look of the Six Flags Magic Mountain Theme Park. Which has always been a big deal for us in California and I believe with many other states. That was the whole cross country journey location for Walley World in National Lampoon's Vacation. Here you get an awesome old school 70s Kiss concert in the park. Interesting song choices, hilarious dialogue, and a much different main villain than expected from the title. It's not a great movie by any means, but it is still fun, goofy, and something of rock and roll history to be experienced for sure. I feel that Kiss and Scooby Doo Animated Movie that came out a few years back was a retake of attempting this flick once more. So, come on by and join us on another adventure of OMO Podcast. 00:00 - 48:32 - Coal Miner's Daughter 48:32 - 1:12:23 - Malcolm in the Middle The Extended Clip Month of Music keeps on rambling, country style. We talk about Coal Miner's Daughter, the 1980 drama about the life and times of Loretta Lynn. Moving beyond the director's 30 Rockian filmgoraphy and the flaws and virtues typical of the musical biopic, we get deeper into the genre of country. Outlaws, clean-cut kids, and the intergenerational conversation of songwriting within the genre. Then, on Malcolm in the Middle (48:32), Malcolm finally catches up with Asteroid City. we all get into Wes' current standing as a filmmaker, his challenges and expectations, and the particular pleasures of his new release. JT keeps the music rolling with A Poem is a Naked Person, which sees Les Blanc documenting Leon Russell. Then, the quality of music and cinema alike take a long walk off a short cliff, as Eddie gets into KISS Meets the Phantom of the Park. when the roller coaster footage is the best part of your rocksploitation film, you've got a major problem.

Peter Gallagher is back on the podcast. Last time we had him on to talk about his book Warren Zevon: Every Album, Every Song. This time he's here to talk about his latest book Kiss in the 1970s. Peter takes us on a journey through KISS's most eventful decade. In the early days, the band was just about done. Poor album reviews, some merited due to poor production, some underserved. With their record company against the wall and their manager's money drained, KISS seemed destined to become one of the “lost” bands of the 70s. But, by the end of the decade, they were the biggest band in the world. Or, as they became famously known – "The Hottest Band In The World!"The music, the costumes, the concerts, the merchandise, the comic books, the TV appearances and the so bad it's good '78 film Kiss Meets the Phantom of the Park. Peter is here to tell us all about it in part one of a two-part interview. In part two we the 14 albums released during that original era of the band with Paul Stanley, Gene Simmons, Ace Frehley and Peter Criss. That includes the studio albums, the live albums and the four solo albums. That episode is coming soon! Weird, overlong, and predictably devoid of substance, the drive-time Remnant format returns for another broadcast. Although today's program begins with analysis of the January 6 hearings, it swiftly takes a turn for the eclectically surreal, as Jonah describes his obsession with pharmaceutical fine print, Ryan ponders the greatness of American dining halls, and Guy provides an account of his visit to a Kiss convention (yes, really). Oh, and to prevent things from becoming too pointless and indulgent (yeah, right) a few thoughts are also sprinkled in on the weakening of institutions and our fragile culture. Show Notes:- The Dispatch breaks down the Jan 6 hearing- Jonah: “What I Got Wrong About Fascism”- The New York Times' Jan 6 reconstruction- Stanford's problematic dining halls- Jonathan Haidt on our uniquely stupid decade- Kiss Meets the Phantom of the Park- Marvel's Kiss comic book- Damnation Alley- The Remnant with Mike Gallagher
