Jason McMaster is one of my all time favorite people both as a musician and as a person. Jason has been a great buddy of mine now for a few years and we always have the best phone calls. It was really fun to have him on the podcast once again (I think for the third time maybe?) but this time we were talking about the 30th anniversary of Dangerous Toys' sophomore album, Hellacious Acres. We talked in great length about the album song by song and, like the dorks we do, strayed away from the topic more times than none which, for me, is always a blast. I hope y'all will dig this one and after listening to this one, go crank Hellacious Acres which you can find on Spotify and all other streaming platforms.

My guest today is Frankie Huang. Frankie is a freelance writer and artist with a list of by-lines that far exceeds the length of this podcast, but the short list is notable, The Atlantic, The New York Times, The Guardian and The Daily Beast is where I would start. It is within these gilded pages that Frankie shares her rather personal and poignant take on topics such as culture, identity and feminism. Perhaps most importantly, however, and yes I'm biased, she is also a lover of food. Here's our chat.

Encounters with the Supernatural Beings of North America - How To See Them and Use of their Medicine
This episode along with accompanying photographs are also available as a blog post: http://rainbowwarriorshaman.com/2020/12/22/distrusted-leprechaun-so-magically-hellacious/ In this episode, one of many to be made public from literally hundreds of encounters and experiences with otherworldly beings. I've never really believed in Leprechauns, Fairies, Elves and Little People. Like most serious minded folks had dismissed them as the subjects of fairy tales, child's play and fictitious inventions by man to instill a bit of fear in children from venturing out into the forest at night, not talking to strangers and all the other "lessons" most Fairy tales convey. All of the mental programming of childhood fantasy and fears associated with these sort of mythological beings would change my mind forever, shortly after moving to rural Western North Carolina near the border of Pisgah National Forest. Virtually pristine mountain land, where as far as the eye can see were rolling hills of green, like an ocean of trees and no signs of man could be seen. This sort of environment I would later learn was in the domain of the Spirit World, Elementals, Hidden People, Ghosts, and Inter-dimensional Beings. Leprechauns were the last thing I'd thought I'd be seeing around these parts after half a year into interacting with what I firmly think are the "Yunwi Tsundi" Cherokee Little People "Yuwi Amayinehi" the Water Indians, and the "Nunnehei"People Who Live Everywhere... all of course being the core of First Nations Cherokee lore and legends. I'd had so much interaction in less than half a year of these three types that I began to feel like close friends and family. They were always friendly, kind and caring. The Little People were the most timid the Water Indians and Mermaids were very outgoing and friendly, the People who Live everywhere very kind and caring who seemed to show up when you needed them the most. So without a doubt I was shocked when what had started as wisps of movement kept catching the corner of my left eye gave way to blobs of scintillating energy to a Leprechaun standing on my kitchen counters with two other Gnomes or Little People of Western features instead of the Native American looking ones I'd got used to seeing. Their appearance and presence shocked me much the way I'd imagine the sight of the first white man would have shaken the eyes of First Nations peoples. Dressed in the stereotypical "green and red" clothing and hat. After this encounter and a lot of reflection, realized this started shortly after taking a photo of a "Fairy" while checking out a cave behind my home. This Fairy wasn't Native American looking at all and in the photos I'd taken that day went through them to see if there were anything else photo-bombing the cave and cliff shots I'd taken. Then I recall I'd seen a Leprechaun in one of those photos or what appeared to be one crouched down on a rock ledge in the shadow of the outcropping. But funny thing is, after going back to located it dozens of times never found it again and couldn't remember which of the dozen or so photos I'd spotted it. Another insight that came was that the area I live in is very steeped in old world music, that is the folk music and ballads of ancestral lands the first white settler's and descendants my present day neighbors came from; Ireland, Scotland, Britain mostly. I've never seen one since, but my relationship is ongoing with the Beings of Myth and Legend of the Cherokee. However I've seen more of the "Hidden Folk" of European features like Gnomes, Dwares or Little People. I wouldn't mind having another encounter with Leprechauns however if given the chance would suspend disbelief and embody the air of respect and honor I think they deserve as they're considered to be the world Trickster Archetype. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/steve-martin1/message

She is an aluminum Dudley Dix 43 with red trim, a hard dodger, and a cutter rig. It turns out that Brian built her, and she is a beauty. We talk about Hellacious, as well as the learning process that building such a boat entails, as well as sailing, electronics, soft shackles, safety gear and lots more.

This week we travel to North America and learn about one of the largest amphibians in the world, the Hellbender. Amphibians are incredible animals that have adapted and survived for hundreds of millions of years. Sadly, amphibians are one of the most endangered class of animals on the planet. It is estimated up to 41% of all amphibian species are threatened with extinction. Being one of the largest, Hellbenders and the other giant salamanders of the world are also threatened with extinction. These are incredible and ancient animals that you need to know about. John Glass, wakes up in a desolated barn from a long cryogenic slumber, to be informed that not only the planet has been devastated by a third world war, but reduced to little habitability by a subsequent alien invasion. He also learns that in order to reestablish a livable atmosphere for what's left of humanity, he'll have to go on a solitary mission to retrieve important codes dispersed in remote locations. Soon enough, he'll encounter more than he bargained for: aliens, crazy survivors, inadequate equipment, LOTS of walking and a pretty unhealthy dose of bad luck.
The doctrine of Hell is a stumbling block for many people. To many, it just doesn't seem possible for God to be perfectly good yet sentence people to an eternity of torment. In this episode, Evan Minton talks about the doctrine of Hell and addresses a variety of objections to it such as "How could God punish people infinitely long for sins of finite significance?", "How could God send infants to Hell?" "How could God be just if He punishes all sins equally?" and "What happens to those who die without ever hearing the gospel?" Evan Minton goes into more depth about these issues in the book "A Hellacious Doctrine: A Defense Of The Biblical Doctrine Of Hell" available on Amazon.com in both paperback and Kindle. -- https://www.amazon.com/Hellacious-Doctrine-Defense-Biblical-Hell/dp/1539938824 --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/evan-minton/support

If you thought the Palm commercials of 2009 were as weird as mobile tech advertising would ever get, HTC and Robert Downey Jr. have something to show you. That's the conversation that kicks off this week's edition of the Pocketnow Weekly podcast, and it's followed by some heartening news about this year's IFA in Berlin. If the rumors hold true, we should be in for some powerfully geeky, if unconventional, tech in Germany this year - and even if they don't, we've got plenty to talk about in the way of chipsets, Nexii, smartwatches, and phablets. If none of those terms make sense to you, you're in the wrong place. But if you're already salivating at the thought of snap-on camera modules and X8 mobile computing systems, your week is about to get a whole lot more awesome. So firmly secure your pocket-protector and perch your horn-rims on your nose: Joe, Anton, and Michael are here to propel your week even higher into the geekosphere with the latest Pocketnow Weekly mobile-technology podcast.
