On December 18, 2014, 101-year-old Ernest Côté, a decorated World War II veteran, became the target of a violent home invasion. The assailant, Ian Bush, gained entry to Côté's secure condo building using fake City of Ottawa identification. Bush proceeded to rob and terrorize the elderly war hero, binding his hands, taping his mouth shut, and leaving him to suffocate with a plastic bag over his head. However, Côté's remarkable strength and presence of mind allowed him to break free, cut a hole in the bag, and call for help. Little did anyone know that Côté's bravery would not only save his own life but would also lead to the resolution of a gruesome unsolved triple homicide from 2007. The evidence Côté preserved, particularly the duct tape used to gag him, provided the crucial DNA link that connected Bush to the murders of retired tax court judge Alban Garon, 77, his wife Raymonde Garon, 73, and their friend Marie-Claire Beniskos, 78. These three victims, all in their 70s, had been found hogtied, beaten, and suffocated in the Garons' luxury condo, leaving investigators baffled for years. It was a chamber of commerce type weather morning on the campus of Villanova University, and the Morning Roar crew took advantage, broadcasting outside at the Riley Ellipse (aka the Oreo), in honor of WXVU's WXV Needs U fundraiser with a bonus hour! We saluted all donors who have contributed so far, and played incredible audio from Villanova radio alums, including Ian Bush, Jeffrey St. Pierre, Joe Gallagher, and Mary-Beth Fay. The fundraiser has been a major success and will ensure radio at Villanova continues to thrive! In the first hour, we analyzed digital hoarding, and in our Twitter poll question, we discussed what are the best places to study on Villanova's campus. Our special guest in the first hour was Whitey Rigsby, VU Class of 1978 and broadcast voice of the Villanova Wildcats men's basketball team on the radio for 43 years. Whitey currently works as a Senior Major Gifts Officer for the Villanova Athletic Fund. Whitey was incredibly generous with his time, and talked to the crew about his 3-year career on the Villanova basketball team, his favorite moments calling Wildcats' basketball games, and gave advice for those aspiring for a career in sports broadcasting. In the bonus hour, Ryan Dery joined the crew and talked with Allison about how the duo teamed up to save the stray cat on Villanova's campus, Austin. Our second very special set of guests was Taffy the Dog, a 2-year-old female yellow Labrador/Golden Retriever and Villanova's first full-time “community canine” and therapy dog. Taffy's caretaker, Officer Amy Lenahan from Villanova Public Safety, came by to talk about Taffy and how Villanova community members can soon make appointments to see her! We discussed relaxation techniques with finals approaching, and even got some talk in about fidget spinners. Another epic episode!

Expanding your family through adoption may seem overwhelming. Often circumstances out of your control have led you to this fork in the road. How do I get started? How long will the process take? What is the involvement of the biological parents?  Do I want to adopt domestically or internationally? Do I want to adopt a child from the foster care system or through a private adoption? How much does adoption cost? How do I place my child for adoption? Can my spouse adopt my child from a previous relationship? Can biological parents change their decision and have their child returned to their custody? How do adoption agencies work? The questions are near endless. This book will cover these topics and guide you, so that you can make the best decisions to grow your family through adoption. You will be prepared, competent, and confident to make the first step in your adoption journey and with every step along the way. Stacy Gleaton is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) in New Mexico and Texas. She has worked in multiple social work settings over the years. One such social work job was with Child Protective Services (CPS) in New Mexico, where she first professionally learned about foster care and adoption. Stacy then continued to conduct home studies, but this time in the private sector. In 2015, Stacy began working with the military population and found it to be generally mistaken as a poor resource for an adoptive family; she enjoys advocating for military families in their adoption journey. As a Christian, Stacy has found many similarities between adoption and her relationship with God. It is her hope that this book will give you the comfort and competence needed to begin your adoption journey! Stacy loves to hear and learn from adoptive families, so please email her at Stacy.LCSW@gmail.com.
