Halloween is here and if you're anything like us, you'll be frantically doing some last-minute pumpkin carving or stocking up on sweets for trick-or-treaters. Maybe you're going to a Halloween party dressed up as a ghost, witch or any other kind of spooky creature. But have you ever wondered where all these quirky customs came from? While Halloween seems like a very modern celebration, its origins actually go back well over 1000 years. It started out with an ancient Celtic festival called Samhain (Sow-in). As you may know, the Celts lived in the area that is now Ireland, the UK and the north of France. They would celebrate their new year on 1st November, a night on which they believed the boundary between the worlds of the living and the dead became blurred, with the ghosts of the dead returning to earth. Who were the first people to come up with the idea then? What about trick-or-treating and some of the other modern customs, where do they come from? In under 3 minutes, we answer your questions! Every year Christians debate what our approach to Halloween should be. There are reasonable (and unreasonable) arguments to be made for enjoying Halloween and avoiding it. So where's the line?Colossians 2:13-16 KJVAnd you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh, hath he quickened together with him, having forgiven you all trespasses; [14] Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross; [15] And having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a shew of them openly, triumphing over them in it. Do we Celebrate Halloween as a Family or no? How do you celebrate Halloween as a family and is it bad to do? RE-RUN ALERT!!Halloween hasn't changed over the years and our conversation about it/beliefs on the topic remain the same. Do you need help deciding how your family celebrates Halloween? Then this podcast is for you! First off, your family needs to personally seek God and obey what he is saying for your family. There is no right or wrong. Obeying God is top priority! Secondly, if you do decide to dress up and go house to house here are some mindsets you can empower your kids with. Focus on Light vs. Darkness: Emphasize themes of light, drawing from verses like John 1:5 ("The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it"). Use Halloween as a time to connect with neighbors and friends. Hebrews 10:24-25 encourages fellowship and building each other up, which can be reflected in community activities. Share the gospel or pray for people as you go door to door. Encourage creative expression through costumes and decorations. This encourages creativity and imagination in them - and honestly it is just so fun to dress up. Teach children about discernment, focusing on Philippians 4:8, which encourages thinking about things that are true, noble, and right. Discuss the difference between fun and fear and avoid anything that glorifies evil. These are simple mindsets to help place in our kids' minds as we approach this holiday! Should Catholics Celebrate Halloween? (Special Podcast Highlight)

The Patrick Madrid Show

On The Patrick Madrid Show, Jacqueline from Long Beach calls in with a question: Is it okay for Catholics to celebrate Halloween? Patrick explains that Halloween actually began as “All Hallows’ Eve,” the vigil before All Saints' Day, a time meant to honor the saints in heaven and pray for the faithful departed. While the modern version has become more secular – and sometimes includes dark or occult themes – its origins are deeply Catholic. Patrick shares that in his own family, they’ve always enjoyed Halloween, but in a way that keeps faith front and center. His wife, Nancy, made saint costumes for their 11 kids – like St. Michael the Archangel, St. Thérèse of Ávila, and even the Pope – so that their trick-or-treating became a lighthearted witness to Christ. Neighbors were often surprised and delighted when they met “little saints” at their doors, sparking small but meaningful conversations about faith. He reminds you that there’s nothing sinful about dressing up or collecting candy, as long as families avoid celebrating evil and instead use the day to point to God’s goodness and the communion of saints. Still, while Patrick may disagree, he respects parents who choose to skip Halloween out of devotion or caution. His advice: pray, follow your conscience, and make decisions that keep Christ at the heart of your home.

In this episode of God Talk, Pastor Greg reflects on how his views on Halloween have shifted over the years. While he doesn't judge those who celebrate or hand out candy, he explains why he now sees the holiday as problematic, pointing to its roots in celebrating darkness and his own experiences confronting spiritual battles as a pastor. He discusses how cultural traditions can downplay the seriousness of evil, and why Christians may want to reconsider how they participate in Halloween. The conversation also touches on haunted houses, paranormal curiosity, and the reality of spiritual warfare in everyday life.

"The last murder in the bloodiest Vendetta in modern times was committed the 20th day of August when Tom Kinder killed John Ferguson on the road from Homer to Trenton. For three years the fight has been on and twenty men have fallen in the conflict. There are two local papers here, but their editors have handled the incidents of the feud in a gingerly manner for fear, I suppose, of getting a charge of shot or a warning to leave town. For that reason nothing is known of it outside of Claiborne parish. The parties from whom I gleamed the facts for this article talked under their breaths and only on conditions that their names be kept secret. They were actually afraid of the few ruffians who perpetrate the vendetta, for their blood is hot and there's no telling what they would do." This week in Louisiana history. October 18, 1730. Gov. Ephesians 5:11 says, “Take no part in the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather expose them.” That's exactly what this video does. Halloween isn't harmless. It isn't just costumes and candy. Whether you trace it back to pagan Samhain, Catholic Hallowtide, or Satanism itself, the reality is the same: it is not Kingdom, and it is not Jesus. Ex-satanists have called it the devil's “high holy day.” History shows us it was birthed from compromise, when the church married paganism and called it holy. And scripture makes it clear: we can't drink the cup of the Lord and the cup of demons. This isn't about legalism. It's about covenant. It's about asking, “Lord, what do You think about my participation in Halloween?” If you're ready for the most comprehensive breakdown you'll find on the internet — history, testimony, scripture, and truth — this is for you.   -   Follow me on Instagram: @AngelamarieScafidi   HEAVEN & HEALING MERCH/ANTI-HALLOWEEN LINE: https://www.HeavenandHealing.Store   - Ways to Support the Show:
