Hey y'all! Spring is springing in the Northern Hemisphere, and I'm excited to share this special new promo podcast with all of you… a full two-hour set of high-energy house music. I'm honored to be playing Saturday, April 5th, at HERETIC in Atlanta, for the incredible non-profit, JOINING HEARTS. Founded in 1987, Joining Hearts, a 501c3 organization, began as a group of friends raising funds to help a loved one with HIV/AIDS stay in their home. Recognizing the growing need, they turned their efforts into an annual event, supporting Atlanta-based organizations dedicated to HIV/AIDS care. Over time, as medical advances and community needs evolved, Joining Hearts expanded its mission beyond housing to include care and prevention, amplifying its impact across Atlanta. Now more than ever, non-profits like JOINING HEARTS need our support. As current U.S. elected officials continue their campaign of cruelty to defund HIV-prevention efforts, the LGBTQ+ community is more vulnerable than ever. Most at risk are LGBTQ youth and the transgender community, and funds raised by JOINING HEARTS go directly to grassroots organizations on the ground that provide life-saving services and health care. I have always believed that queer dance floors are spaces of resistance. And music is the energy that powers our fight. I hope you enjoy this journey into sonic joy. Whoever first thought to take the sounds of gospel and add a beat underneath (I'm just gonna go ahead and credit the iconic Frankie Knuckles) must have been one of the greatest pioneers of house music of all time. Frankie once said that clubs are “like church... by the time the preacher gets going, the whole room becomes one.” House lovers often refer to the dance floor as church. And some of the most joyous moments I've experienced at a club have been courtesy of gospel house. I vividly remember going to Twilo and Body & Soul in the late-'90s and hearing tracks for the first time from Sounds of Blackness, Jasper Street Co., Su Su Bobien, Vernessa Mitchell, Barbara Tucker, and Kim English that completely changed my outlook towards music. I've been meaning to put together a gospel house mix for quite some time now (ever since playing a full gospel house set at the Church of Now at Burning Man in 2019), and a recent trip this holiday season to Portland to hear the Northwest Community Gospel Chorus gave me the inspiration that I finally needed. So, rather than your typical house, tech house, or disco set, here's 90 minutes (I could have easily made this 5 hours!) of pure praise for the lord - a dance floor journey of uplifting and soulful calls for love and redemption. There are classics here interspersed with brand-new tracks from this year, with reinterpretations sprinkled throughout. ...we lost one of our brightest and best this week - one of the Vocal Booth Weekender Originals, Amanda Reed aka Mrs. Blackwax, passed on early Friday morning. A woman of incredible warmth, energy, lust for life and a deep love of the music and our scene, a beautiful soul, and one of the loveliest people it's been my privilege to know and call "friend" - and her passing has left us all saddened and bereft. The outpouring of love and affection at the news of her passing has been uplifting and comforting in no small measure, but there's absolutely no doubt that the space she leaves behind will forever be hard to fill......so this morning's "Risin' " session is a celebration of her life, and an expression from me of how much she is loved and missed by so many people around the world - the first hour is a selection of music that speaks to that, and the second hour is a mix that I was proud and honoured to be asked to put together for this year's "Amanda's Day" in April...I hope that the whole show is one that you'll listen to, and think of Amanda's memory and legacy fondly - I know I always will. Track-listing:Hour One:Lovebirds feat. I have always been a huge fan of many different genres of music and that's been a real blessing to me as a person but in some regards I consider it a slight curse -- as an artist.  Let me explain that so that it makes sense.  Personally I love many different genres of music -- some that might surprise you.  I love disco, tech house, techno...and the list goes on and on and on.  You probably don't know me much for those sounds because I don't push them forward very often in my podcast sets.  What you probably know me most for is my chill and deep house sets.  I decided a good few years ago that it was important that I try as hard as I could to "brand" myself in a particular way...so as to not confuse the listeners who came upon me.  Artistry is important but branding is also extremely important.  As an artist one never wants to confuse their audience.  So...I decided to work hard to "stay in my lane" since it was one that I love passionately and consider myself to be pretty good at.  If you listen to my (Sophisticated) Morning, Deep and Chill sets you will hear direct similarities in them.  They all fit nicely together running what I call "parallel to the dance floor".  They are kind of dance floor friendly....but also kind of not.  All that being said...I AM a child of the dance floor.  I love to dance and I love to DJ to dance floors.  That brings me to this newest podcast, Fire Island House Music 8.  Every summer I have released a Fire Island House Music set because I love house music so much and as a gift to my many listeners who I know love it as much as I do.  Two weeks ago I released #7 in this series and was totally blown away by the outreach from my listeners in response to it.  I actually can't remember the last time I received response like this to a music set.  I've had phone calls, direct messages and even had people calling me through Facebook Messenger.  House and disco house are what I mainly spin at my live performances but feeling and seeing your response to that last Fire Island House set has motivated me to start pushing more of them out via podcast.  If I confuse a person or two....well, so be it.  I'm going to listen to you (and my heart).  From my heart...to your ears...ENJOY!#/Artist/Title/Remix01.  Black Box/I Don't Know Anybody Else/Motown Disco Anthem02.  Mark Knight/Love Is All We're Living For/Extended Mix03.  Ten City/Be Free/Emmaculate & Sharon Chambers Extended04.  Disco Incorporated/Disco Piano/Vocal Disco House Mix05.  Platinum City/Holy Spirit/Mark Brickman Remix06.  Coree Mathews/Believe In You/Yam Who?
