God is interested in you! He has great plans for you which you will discover as you learn to put Him first wherever you go. Abraham was a man who always put God first wherever he was and in whatever situation he was in. Abraham travelled extensively throughout his lifetime. He travelled 700 miles from Ur to the borders of present-day Iraq, then 700 miles into Syria, another 800 miles to Egypt, and then back into Canaan which is part of present-day Israel. Just as he travelled up and down mountains and valleys, his life was full of highs and lows. But he always put God first. How do we know this? Because we read many times in the Bible that ‘he built an altar'. An altar is a place to meet with God. Where are your altars? Where do you meet with God? Abraham was going into a land of vision, of promise, of discovery, with great promises, but the reality was that he would be in a hostile culture and environment. He would need to really put a stake in the ground wherever he went. That stake was called building an altar. This was all about his devotion to God. Abraham knew that building an altar was not an add-on or something that can be dropped in times of pressure. It was his priority; it was essential and foundational. Each altar was a declaration that ‘I am going to put first things first. I am going to seek God first for me and my house by building an altar.' In Genesis we read about four altars that Abraham built and we can learn from each one of them. Abraham built: 1. An Altar of Praise (Genesis 12:2-3,7; Job 1:21b) 2. An Altar of Prayer (Genesis 12:8; Jeremiah 33:3; Genesis 12:13) 3. An Altar of Peace (Genesis 13:8-9; Philippians 4:7) 4. An Altar of Provision (Genesis 22:7-9; Hebrews 11:19; Genesis 22:14; Matthew 6:33) Apply 1. An Altar of Praise. Abraham built this altar to honour the Lord as a response to God's promises to him (Genesis 12:2-3,7). Abraham praised God before he did anything else, and he thanked God for His promises. Praising God should be the first thing we do every day and by thanking Him for His promises to us, we remind ourselves that it is only through the power of the blood of Jesus that we will conquer in every situation. Abraham had just been given huge promises from God, so of course he felt like praising Him. But what about when things are not going well? Recent neuroscience studies have discovered it's impossible for the human brain to experience feelings of anxiety and gratitude at the same time. When Job was told that his family were killed, he still worshipped God (Job 1:21b). Worshipping God is a choice, and the best choice we'll ever make. Whatever you are going through, remember that praising God is your weapon. When you praise God, you gain His perspective and you will receive your breakthrough. The altar Abraham built would have been a simple stone structure which would have remained standing for generations to come. Every time Abraham saw it, he would have been reminded of God's promises to him. There will come a day when that test you're going through right now will become your testimony of God's faithfulness and goodness to you. This is why it is so good to keep a prayer diary or create an annual dream board which you can look back on to remind yourself of the promises God has spoken to you and the answers He has given you. 2. An Altar of Prayer. Abram moved on from the lowlands of Canaan to a mountain (Genesis 12:8). Just as a phone call is a two-way conversation, so It's the same with prayer. When Abram ‘called on the name of the Lord', he would have been expecting answers. When we pray, we need to allow time for God to speak back to us. He often does this through the scriptures which is why our daily Bible readings are so important (see the free KCI App). We need to make prayer our number one priority. Are you taking time every day to meet with God by reading the Bible and praying? We read in the Gospels how Jesus frequently withdrew to be on His own with God because He knew this was the source of His strength. When you pray, it's important to ask God what His plans are for you that day, not to use your prayer time to present your plans to God and ask Him to bless them (Jeremiah 33:3). Abram left the mountain to go down to Egypt to escape the famine, where he made the mistake of putting his wife in danger (Genesis 12:13). God was merciful and overruled Abram's mistake, releasing him and his wife from Pharaoh. Abram then went back to where he had pitched his tent before and saw the stone altar he had made earlier. This caused him to call on the Lord in prayer again, but this time most likely in repentance. Whenever you make mistakes, it is only through prayer that you can be restored to the Lord. 3. An Altar of Peace. What causes you to lose your peace? Busyness, stress, conflict? Arguing and division broke out between Abraham's herdsmen and his nephew Lot's, and it got so bad that they could no longer live together (Genesis 13). Division in the home can affect every area of life. It can be totally consuming and remove all peace. Abraham took the lead firstly bringing rule and then offering a solution (Genesis 13:8-9). So, now he was free of conflict and able to experience complete security. It was here, that he pitched his tent, built an altar, and enjoyed the peace and presence of God. To keep your peace, you must seek to experience the presence of God daily and be touched by His presence every day. You do this by finding a place at home, your altar, where you can start every day in the presence of God. You must also have a family altar – a weekly time where you pray together as a family. Then you will live with the peace of God (Philippians 4:7). 4. An Altar of Provision. Provision and sacrifice are very much linked. Abraham, now over 100 years old, travelled almost 60 miles over 3 days with his son Isaac to the mountain in the region of Moriah. Abraham obeyed but also trusted God for provision (Genesis 22:7-9). When they reached the place God had told him about, Abraham built an altar there, arranged the wood on it, bound his son Isaac and laid him on the altar. Take note of the emotional weight in the situation. As Abraham constructed the altar on Mount Moriah, his heart likely experienced intense anguish. He was on the verge of presenting his only cherished son as a sacrifice to God, not just for slaughter but to be consumed by flames as a burnt offering. Despite Isaac being the promised heir, Abraham understood that God required this sacrifice, leading him to lift the sacrificial knife (Hebrews 11:19). However, what was anticipated as a moment of death transformed into a moment of victory. A substitute, a provision, emerged, and Isaac was spared. Abraham's faith had undergone a rigorous test, was ultimately rewarded, and God did indeed provide the lamb for the burnt offering. Nicky Gumbel said in his Bible in One Year commentary: "God sometimes allows us to be tested. Personally, I don't think God ever intended for a moment that Abraham should actually sacrifice his son Isaac. The sacrifice of children was always an abomination to the Lord. But he wanted to establish Abraham's priorities." It was here that God was first called Jehovah Jireh: God will provide (Genesis 22:14). Is God's work your number one priority? When you sacrifice in your giving to God, He will provide (Matthew 6:33). God calls us to obey Him, and the blessings come out of the obedience. If you want your life to count, if you want to have an influence, then you and your house, like Abraham and his house, must say that 'we are going to give our absolute best'. Of course, the biggest sacrifice was made at the Cross by God who didn't spare His own Son but gave Him up so that we can not only be saved from our sins, but also come into a new line of blessing. Today, the challenge is to build an altar in our hearts to God, in our marriages and in our homes. Put God first wherever we are. Don't let God and the things of God get choked out. Put Him first and you will see every blessing.

God is a provider—He sees the need beforehand and makes provision for it. This has been true throughout Scripture and Christian history, but most clearly seen in Abraham's willing sacrifice of Isaac. When God stays the hand of Abraham and provides the ram in the thicket, Abraham declares that God is “Jehovah Jireh” (Yahweh Will Provide). In this study, Nathan examines Genesis 22, shows the incredible parallel with Jesus Christ, and reminds us all that we, like Abraham, must live by faith and stand upon the character and promises of God.------------For more information about Daily Thunder and the ministry of Ellerslie Mission Society, please visit: https://ellerslie.com/. Genesis 22:1-14 Our names are important to us. The first question we often as a person is, “What is your name?” As we get to know people, their names become more than just words on a name tag; they bring to mind the personality and character of the person. In the same way, the many names of God revealed in Scripture tell us much about who He is. Those names invite us to know Him in a growing and intimate relationship. In this series, we'll examine 4 of those names more closely. And in doing so, we'll get a glimpse of the infinite God that we are forging our life on. God reveals Himself fully so that we might experience who He is in all His fullness.

This week we look at Genesis 22 in which Abraham is asked to sacrifice his promised son, Isaac as an offering to the Lord. This crazy, massive request is done by God to show, and prove Abraham's faith in God to provide. God never planned to have Abraham actually go through with it, but simply to test him to see if he would be willing. We see in Genesis 22 what true faith in God looks like and we also see that God truly does provide, “Jehovah Jireh” - God provides. Jehovah Jireh – God will provide! During Abraham's most difficult trial, his test of faith proved Jehovah Jireh was his only Source! In Genesis 22 the Lord asked him to offer his son, his only son, Isaac as a burnt offering. His testing was not about human sacrificing for God clearly forbids that, but the testing of his faith. In Genesis 22:5 the key to his victory is clearly stated. Abraham said to his young men, “Stay here with the donkey; the Lad and I will go yonder and worship, and we will come back to you.” Sometimes when the warfare is all around you the best thing you can do is to remove yourself from the chaos and worship the Lord! Knowing you are going back to finish your assignment but you're going back with His wisdom, His strength, and His direction over your life. #1 Remove yourself from the chaos #2 Worship God #3 Let God bring you back The ram was the substitute sacrifice for Isaac and Jesus was our substitute sacrifice for all mankind. Abraham believed God and it was accounted to him for righteousness. Galatians 3:6 Join Apostle Cathy Coppola on this powerful teaching. Today we continue the conversation of wanting to know God for who He says He is. When we know Him we can trust what He is saying and trust that we are hearing Him! Zoey shares about Jehovah Jireh - God our Provider. What does provision look like in God? Join us as we get into it!
One of the ways to understand the character and nature of God is to study the names used for Him in the bible. Our text mentions a compound name of God that gives insight into His character. The story of Abraham and Issac is familiar. Issac was the fulfillment of God’s promise to Abraham to provide a son from whom would come a great nation. God then tells Abraham to sacrifice his son. Our text is the end of that story where God has provided a ram as a sacrifice. This is the only location in the bible where we read God’s name as Jehovah-Jireh: God is a provider. What is a provision? The root word in Latin is provisioun which means to see before. It means to prepare before and to act in advance. It means to see ahead and to prepare for what has yet to come. Abraham was calling God the Lord, who knows exactly where we are, where we are going and can supply all we need. The provision of God is not a random shopping list of things that we think we need, but it is a specific supply of exactly what we need when we need it. We can all tell stories of God’s provision in our life. These would be stories of an on-time God who provided exactly what we needed at precisely the moment we needed, and He will do this even when we did not see the situation before it unfolded. Abraham had to travel for three days without knowing what was ahead. It was not until the moment of sacrifice that God revealed his plan and supply.

These would be stories of an on-time God who provided exactly what we needed at precisely the moment we needed, and He will do this even when we did not see the situation before it unfolded. Abraham had to travel for three days without knowing what was ahead. It was not until the moment of sacrifice that God revealed his plan and supply.
Deeper Christian Podcast • Episode 202 The Names of God are a profound revelation of the character and nature of God—all of which find their fulfillment in Jesus Christ. The first week of each month, we examine one of God's Names to learn more about Who He is and how Jesus reveals and showcases this incredible attribute to us in the flesh (for He is God in the flesh). Though the Name Jehovah Jireh only shows up once in Scripture, the truth that God is a provider is declared all throughout Scripture (and Christian history). The promise is that not only does God delight in being the provider—seeing in advance and making provision—but that He has become the provision we need. If you are facing hardship, difficulty, pain, or trials, then you need this reminder that everything you need is provided for you in Christ Jesus. Jehovah Jireh: God is My Provider Genesis 22 By Pastor Brad Watson
When God told Moses to go to Pharaoh and say, "Let my people go!" he was disheartened. Anyone who has ever walked through the Egyptian Museum in Cairo and has seen the gold and the magnificence which decorated the courts of the pharaohs can imagine in a small way how this 80-year-old man, who for the last 40 years had been a shepherd with loneliness for a companion, would feel, striding into the palace asking that some two million slaves be allowed to take a hike out of the empire.
The sibling rivalry initiated by Essau against his brother, Jacob, led to on-going battles between the Amalakites and Israelites. Moses and Joshua’s actions recorded in Exodus 17:8-6 reveal that seeking God’s help involves our perseverance,...
What happens when our songs, views, and expectations about God begin to change? In Exodus 16:2-16, we learn spiritual lessons God wants us to learn during our trials including: keeping our eyes on the objective rather than the obstacle.
We all want to be known, but did you ever think that God may have that same desire, to be known? God wants us to know Him and to know Him by His names. In Part 3 of The Heart of a Shepherd, Dot walks us through Psalm 23:6, teaching us the different names of God that show us just how intimate and personal of a God He truly is. When we call upon the name of the Lord, we can rest in His comfort and face any challenge life may throw our way. Write This Down: The more you get to know God, the more you will love Him. The more you love Him, the more you will enjoy following Him and be willing to do whatever He has asked you to do. Jehovah Rohi: God is our Shepherd. Jehovah Jireh: God is our provider. Jehovah Shalom: God is our peace. Jehovah Tsidkenu: God is our righteousness. Jehovah Shammah: God is always there. Genesis 22:1-14 v14 – Jehovah Jireh – “God will see to it.” Hebrews 11:17-19 Do I rely on God and trust in Him? James 1:5-8 James 5:14-1…
Today, Wednesday July 29 - Jehovah-Jireh, translated into our English language means, "On the Mount of the LORD it shall be seen that the LORD provides." I love Genesis 22 because in it is one of the most beautiful pictures of the Substitutionary Death of our Lord Jesus as the Lamb of God in the Old Testament. Jesus said the devil is a liar and the father of lies. (John 8:44) Beginning with Eve in the garden, the devil lied to her to make her believe that God was holding back something from her. One of his biggest lies, even today, is that God really doesn't love you or care for you. If God cared for you why would He let all these bad things happen to you. But my friend, God does love you so much that He Himself became the sacrificial Lamb that would pay the ultimate price for our sins! And today, on Mt. Calvary, it can still be seen, that the LORD has provided a substitute to die in our place so that by faith we can believe and be saved! Amen! God bless!
The story of Abraham inspires us to believe God for His provision. We can trust Him if we believe, obey and listen. Be inspired to meditate on this powerful story of faith! Preached at Hope Fellowship Church. Used by permission.
Now the name Jehovah Jireh originates from the well known episode in Genesis where Abraham takes his only son Isaac up the mountain, and is asked by the Lord to sacrifice him as a burnt offering. Now, lest we forget, God had specifically promised Abraham that his descendants would be as numerous as the stars in the sky, and that this promise would be fulfilled through his son Isaac. Isaac spoke up and said to his father Abraham, “Father?” “Yes, my son?” Abraham replied. “The fire and wood are here,” Isaac said, “but where is the lamb for the burnt offering?” Abraham answered, “God himself will provide the lamb for the burnt offering, my son.” And the two of them went on together. Genesis 22:7-8 NIV Abraham had such remarkable faith in God's promise, that he knew that even if he were to kill his beloved son Isaac, God had some way of providing a resurrection so that this promise would still be fulfilled, which is why he answered that God himself will provide the lamb for the offering. He wasn't saying this for the sake of convenience. Once Abraham placed Isaac on the altar and was about to kill him, God quickly intervened and halted proceedings, having seen that Abraham passed the test of faith before him. He then provided a ram in a thicket nearby that was used for the burnt offering. This is when Abraham named that place, Jehovah Jireh - God will provide. It literally means, God will see to it - following Abraham's statement that God will provide the lamb. God is a God who keeps His promises. One of these promises is to provide for us!

(Joshua 4:1~9) 1. All of us has more than one ‘very positive, great, encouraging and God performed’ memories in our life and faith journey. Obviously, for me the internship is one of them, which makes me keep going for the glory of God. 2. Of course, I’ve had very negative and discouraging experiences in my ministry. But these kinds of great memories or rather landmarks in faith have become driving forces for us to move on. As Romans 12:21 says, “Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.” 3. This is what I see as I read today’s reading Joshua 4; God led His people out of Egypt, throughout the wilderness God protected and provided. And now God is leading them into the land he promised. This is not what Moses did or could do, this is not what Joshua did or could do, but Only God did and could do for His people. 4. So in today’s reading verse 7, God said, “tell your children that the flow of the Jordan was cut off before ‘THE ARK of the covenant of the LORD,’.” 5. This is important. The river was cut off NOT when the priest waded in the water, but when ‘The ARK’ arrived, the river was cut off. 6. This is what we must not fail to tell the next generations. “If God is for you, who can ever be against you! (Rom 8:31)” Jehovah Jireh (God provides), Jehovah Nissi (God wins), Jehovah Lafa (God heals) 7. Two weeks ago, I received a very unpleasant, or rather sad call. He said, “I heard you’d been doing prayer meetings in one of blue care centres. We cannot have prayer meeting in public where people can see and hear. You may have it in chapel on the second floor, otherwise, those residents will keep complaining about your prayer group.” 8. I did not react, but I offered him, “Morningside UC and I are praying for your ministry and people.” 12. Blue Care, Uniting Care, Uniting Church. We all are the body of Christ, worshipping, witnessing, and serving God and his people, aren’t we all? 13. But somehow and somewhere, we got confused with whom we are serving. 14. Do you know the first question of the shorter catechism? “What is the chief end of man? “Man’s chief end is to glorify God, and to enjoy him forever.” 15. Indeed, we are here to glorify God, to please God, and to enjoy the everlasting fellowship with Him through Jesus Christ. 16. Galatians 1:10 Am I now trying to win the approval of human beings, or of God? Or am I trying to please people? If I were still trying to please people, I would not be a servant of Christ. 17. 1 Thessalonians 2:4b We are not trying to please people but God, who tests our hearts. 18. However, somehow, somewhere, we started creating ‘confusions.’ What is ‘essential, a must’ has become secondary, and what was the secondary has become the top priority. 19. From time to time, I listen to a southern Baptist preacher, Effreim Smith from Chicago. In one of his messages, he said this, kind of eye opening and ear clearing, “The world teaches you how to prioritise your life including your faith by setting up what is the first priority, what is the next, and what is the next. But in this relationship with God, there is no first priority, no second priority because God is our only priority. Amen! He is the alpha and Omega, he is the beginning and the End, he is everlasting, He is who he is. 20. Let’s go back to today’s reading, these 12 stones remind people of the ark of God that made the river cut off. So verse 7 continues to say, “These stones are to be a memorial to the people of Israel forever.” But people failed to remember not only the meaning of the 12 stones, but the power and strength of our faith in God. Along the way, we got lost, and not even realise it. 21. In Matthew 17, when Jesus was transfigured before Peter, James, and John, they saw how glorious Jesus became and heard the voice saying, ”This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased. Listen to him!” 22. They were the ones who were with Jesus Christ, but still failed to listen and follow him until. Until his body was broken, his blood was shed, and shared with us in remembrance of him. 23. The essence and the core in our faith is God. He is the way, the truth and the life. So in order for us to continue to be a multi-generational church for the glory of God, we must pass the way, the truth and the life onto our next generations in remembrance of him. 24. As I conclude today’s message, I would like to sing a hymn together. This is my grandmother’s favourite, and soon became my favourite. Every time I sing this hymn, I remember Jesus Christ as the way, the truth and the life. And I pray my children remember Jesus in the same way. AMEN.
Bible reading Genesis 22:1-19 Abraham Tested 22 Some time later God tested Abraham. He said to him, “Abraham!” “Here I am,” he replied. 2 Then God said, “Take your son, your only son, whom you love—Isaac—and go to the region of Moriah. Sacrifice him there as a burnt offering on a mountain I will show you.” 3 Early the next morning Abraham got up and loaded his donkey. He took with him two of his servants and his son Isaac. When he had cut enough wood for the burnt offering, he set out for the place God had told him about. 4 On the third day Abraham looked up and saw the place in the distance. 5 He said to his servants, “Stay here with the donkey while I and the boy go over there. We will worship and then we will come back to you.” 6 Abraham took the wood for the burnt offering and placed it on his son Isaac, and he himself carried the fire and the knife. As the two of them went on together, 7 Isaac spoke up and said to his father Abraham, “Father?” “Yes, my son?” Abraham replied. “The fire and wood are here,” Isaac said, “but where is the lamb for the burnt offering?” 8 Abraham answered, “God himself will provide the lamb for the burnt offering, my son.” And the two of them went on together. 9 When they reached the place God had told him about, Abraham built an altar there and arranged the wood on it. He bound his son Isaac and laid him on the altar, on top of the wood. 10 Then he reached out his hand and took the knife to slay his son. 11 But the angel of the Lord called out to him from heaven, “Abraham! Abraham!” “Here I am,” he replied. 12 “Do not lay a hand on the boy,” he said. “Do not do anything to him. Now I know that you fear God, because you have not withheld from me your son, your only son.” 13 Abraham looked up and there in a thicket he saw a ram caught by its horns. He went over and took the ram and sacrificed it as a burnt offering instead of his son. 14 So Abraham called that place The Lord Will Provide. And to this day it is said, “On the mountain of the Lord it will be provided.” 15 The angel of the Lord called to Abraham from heaven a second time 16 and said, “I swear by myself, declares the Lord, that because you have done this and have not withheld your son, your only son, 17 I will surely bless you and make your descendants as numerous as the stars in the sky and as the sand on the seashore. Your descendants will take possession of the cities of their enemies, 18 and through your offspring all nations on earth will be blessed, because you have obeyed me.” 19 Then Abraham returned to his servants, and they set off together for Beersheba. And Abraham stayed in Beersheba.
