Filmmaker Lenny Abrahamson gives Ray all the details of this week's Fastnet Film Festival at Schull, West Cork.

Ella Schull was nominated as a Beck's Player with Heart for her commitment and passion on and off the court. What she loves most about high school sports is all the friendships she has been able to make. She has formed so many close bonds with her teammates and many of them are now her close friends. Another thing she loves is the skills she has picked up from the sports she plays. Those skills can go anywhere from communication to time management and learning how to incorporate another activity into her schedule. Lastly, she loves how sports bring the community together. Being able to see so many fans in the Mapleton community come to home games is amazing. Ella competes in volleyball and basketball and she is involved in FFA at Maple River. Outside of school and sports, she volunteers to help set up the fall festival in October and helps take it down when it is over. Agriculture means so many things to Ella. It's about learning from the challenges and continuing to grow from them. Being in an agriculture-related field means hard work and that's something she loves to show. It's something that has been running in the bloodline for generations and she is proud to say that she has the opportunity to be a part of the next. The possibilities and opportunities agriculture gives her are endless. Every day, she learns from challenges and new experiences. Ella plans on attending South Dakota State University to major in agricultural science.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

On today's podcast I chat with Mike Baldwin, not the character from Coronation Street, but an Englishman all the same. Our neighbour from the other side of the hill loves visiting the old cottage near Goleen in West Cork and in truth just can't spend enough time here. Mike has been drawn to this special cottage where his great grandfather lived his whole life. This special needs teacher is the author of a number of books, he is obsessed about Irish folklore, the history of harps and yes, he is also a harp maker. He loves nothing more than coming here, enjoying the relative solitude while he potters away on his projects including bringing this old cottage back to life. On today's podcast I chatted with Sally Smart of Smart Productions in Schull in West Cork. I can honestly say that Sally is one of the most fascinating people that I have met who has lived the most unusual life. In part one Sally talks about her early life in Cornwall, running away to Australia, living alone on a deserted island for 9 months, falling in love with Gus, an Aboriginal man and then living and travelling together across the desert in a station wagon with their two children! Sally is headstrong and determined, she lives and stands by her principles. Enjoy part one of Sally's story! On part two of this two part podcast I chat with the wonderful Swedish singer Camilla Griehsel. She talks about life with her young family and her husband, Colin Vearncombe (aka Black) and their move from London to Schull in West Cork. Life in Ireland has been very special for Camilla both musically and personally but unfortunately not without huge sadness when Colin died in a motor accident in 2016. Camilla is always happy when she is singing and this helped her recover from those darkest of days. Ahw chats about her musical projects including Dogtail Soup, the Barefoot Baroque, Mamasongue and so much more to come. Enjoy the show!
MURDER-accused Bailey has insisted he's not a danger to women - despite his history of domestic violence. Speaking to ‘Shattered Lives', Bailey was challenged on his prior history of assaulting his former partner Jules Thomas and allegations that he previously threatened witness Maria Farrell. However, the former journalist, who is now set to launch his own podcast, insisted to us that he is not a danger to the women of Ireland when asked. Bailey was convicted in his absence in a French court of the murder of Sophie Toscan Du Plantier at her holiday home in Schull on December 23, 1996 - a charge he denies. Just two days before Christmas in 1996 the body of 39 year old, french filmmaker, wife, daughter and mother Sophie Toscan Du Plantier was found not far from her vacation home. Her cottage in Schull was supposed to be her happy getaway, but would soon turn into an absolute nightmare. This was a classic tale of a tight knit community that was absolutely shocked, terrified and deeply saddened by this heinous crime. Unfortunately the investigation was a shaky one which led to two countries and families arguing back and forth. In the end, even though someone was convicted, there were still doubts and no one has been put behind bars to serve a sentence for Sophie's murder. Thank you to the glorious David White for research assistance on this case!ReferencesCoulter, Carol. 2003. "Bailey admits violence to partner:." The Irish Times, December 10: 3.—. 2003. 10:19 We Dip Chris Shiflett's Rig! 25:00 Zach's New Pedal 28:29 Joe Bonamassa Live from Nerdville Big thanks to StewMac for sponsoring this episode. Head to http://stewmac.com/dippedintone (http://stewmac.com/dippedintone) to get 10% off! Go see Joe's Dumbles in person: https://jbonamassa.com/tour-dates/ (https://jbonamassa.com/tour-dates/) Dipped In Tone begins its partnership with Premier Guitar with Rhett Shull and Zack Broyles visiting Joe Bonamassa in Nerdville East, his Nashville home and museum. They talk vintage gear, guitar obsession, innovation versus tradition, and Dumbles. Many Dumbles … including a rare—even among these ultra-rare custom-built amps—example with a DI port for acoustic guitar made for the late songwriter Hoyt Axton. Bonamassa also explains his philosophy about taking guitars worth hundreds of thousands of dollars on the road and to local gigs, and what the future holds in store for his collection of 500 instruments—every one with a story. Also, our hosts “dip” Chris Shiflett's rig, offering the Foo Fighters guitarist a few “pointers” on rebuilding his massive pedalboard while ogling his refinished 1957 Les Paul and his custom-built Telecaster called “the Cleaver.” But before they dive deep, Schull shows off his recently acquired 1989 R9 Les Paul from Norm's Rare Guitars, and Broyles shows off the new super-Muff style Positron Cascading Amplifier Distortion. Picture this: an organic farm on 250 acres of soft, green, rolling hills on a remote peninsula bordering the Atlantic Ocean—an idyllic location to grow vegetables and raise cows and pigs. At first glance, it seems like the Ferguson family—the multi-generational crew behind Gubbeen Farm outside Schull, West Cork—is living the dream: father Tom is the herdsman; mother Giana, the pioneering cheesemaker; son Fingal the smoked meat producer; and daughter Clovisse the bio-dynamic gardener. After taking a closer look, we can confirm that in this case the dream is in fact, reality. With the start of their award-winning cheesemaking in the 1970s, the Fergusons have worked diligently to make Gubbeen cheese and meat products a household name synonymous with quality, care, and respect for the land in restaurants and homes around Ireland and throughout the world. In this week's episode, we sit down with Fingal Ferguson, the fifth generation of Gubbeen farmers, to talk about life on the farm, the West Cork artisan community, and the beauty of staying small. We also discuss Fingal's passion for knives and knife making, as well as how to not rest on a legacy, but continue to stay creative and challenge yourself.Photo courtesy of Fingal Ferguson.Dyed Green is a project of Bog & Thunder, whose mission is to highlight the best of Irish food and culture, through food tours, events, and media. MURDER AT THE COTTAGE shines a bright light on the events and investigation into the brutal killing of two days before Christmas in 1996 of French TV producer Sophie Toscan du Plantier at her holiday cottage in Schull, West Cork. In 2019, the key suspect, English journalist Ian Bailey – the first reporter on the scene – was found guilty in absentia by the French courts yet was never found guilty in Ireland, owing to a lack of reliable evidence. In the true crime docuseries, MURDER AT THE COTTAGE: THE SEARCH FOR JUSTICE FOR SOPHIE, Academy Award®-nominated filmmaker Jim Sheridan takes viewers on a journey of the unsolved case that has haunted West Cork for almost 25 years. Piecing together original evidence, never-before-seen footage and interviews with those closest to the case, Sheridan tries to make sense of what happened that night. Having successfully fought repeated extradition requests from the French authorities, Bailey still resides in West Cork and maintains his innocence to this day. Six-time Academy Award®-nominated filmmaker Jim Sheridan (My Left Foot, In the Name of the Father, The Boxer) joins us for a conversation on the haunting specter Sophie Toscan du Plantier's savage murder had in motivating him to make this docuseries, the complicated “suspect” that Ian Bailey became over the last two and a half years, the international political and judicial hand grenade that the case presented for France and Ireland, and the role that the local Irish police had in bolloxing the entire investigation into the victim's unsolved death. A classic story about the time an absolutely awful excuse was made while playing basketball with Scott W.... a good lesson for those out there making terrible excuses when playing a game. This one also has a 'cold read' advertisement for Cousin Anna's very VERY specific babysitting services in Schull, Ireland!
Gardai have confirmed that they will be conducting a full-scale review of the murder of Sophie Toscan du Plantier. It will be 26 years this December since the French Television Producer was killed outside her holiday home in Schull in Cork. Ralph Riegel is Southern Correspondent with the Irish Independent and he spoke to Johnathan on this new review announcement. Also Solicitor for Ian Bailey Frank Buttimer spoke to Newstalk Breakfast.
This week our case takes place in Schull, Ireland. This West Cork case about a murdered French woman on holiday in a quiet, countryside town has many twists and turns as it takes over two decades to try and uncover the truth.
"Journeying to her West Cork school on the back of her father's milk cart is among the earliest memories of 91-year-old Freda Jones, a much admired organist living near Baltinglass, County Wicklow. She recalls her childhood days alongside the Schull to Skibbereen railway line before she left for boarding school at the Collegiate School, Celbridge. She also tells how she was obliged to give up her teaching career in Baltinglass, County Wicklow, following her marriage in 1957."
He once held a gun to Daniel Day Lewis' head, spent time ‘f”*king up' Richard Harris on the set of The Field, and he can't understand why everyone was so afraid of Harvey Weinstein. Jim Sheridan is not only one of the greatest film directors every to come out of Ireland (six-time Oscar-nominated), he also one of the most compelling characters Ive ever met. In his latest project, Murder at the Cottage, Jim sets out to try to make sense of what really happened in the case of Sophie Toscan du Plantier who was murdered at her holiday cottage in Schull, West Cork in 1996. Jim tells me about the personal tragedy and anger at the Irish justice system that drove him to make this show, and he also shares incredible stories of working with some of the world's best actors and producers. Comedy: Some well-known people get wind that a famous film director is on the episode and they leave some voicemails for him. Also, a sideways glance ai English Hooliganism, following the Euro 2021 final at Wembley.
