(23 November 2023)2023년 CRW ‘섬김과 친밀함이 넘치는 예배  Humble and Intimate Worship'지난 주 구현모 찬양 사역자님 (https://www.youtube.com/@David_koo)의 찬양과 간증예배는 특별한 선물과 같은 시간이었습니다. 찬양을 들으면서 동질감/동료의식 (empathy, comradeship)이란 단어가 생각이 났습니다. 아마도 구현모 찬양 사역자님이 호주에 살았다는 이해관계로 그런 생각이 들었나 봅니다. 예수님께서 우리를 선택하시고, 사랑하시고 또한 동행 하시는 이유도 우리를 향한 같은 동질감과 동료의식이라는 생각이 듭니다. 예수님께서는 우리가 살고 있는 이 땅에 우리와 같은 몸으로 태어나셨으며, 이 땅에서 우리에게 복음을 증거하시고 구원을 이루셨습니다. 그리고 다시 오시겠다고 약속을 하시고 승천하셨습니다. 이번 주에 말씀을 나누는 데살로니가 교회 교인들에게도 동일한 동질감과 동료의식이 듭니다. 시대와 장소는 다르지만 하나님께서 창조하신 땅에 하나님의 백성으로 살기로 결단하고 예수님을 따르기로 신앙 고백하는 점에 있어서는 우리와 동일합니다. CRW 목요찬양집회에 참석하는 모든 예배자들에게 동질감과 동료의식이 항상 듭니다. 바로 내 곁에서 찬양하고 기도하며 말씀을 드는 나의 믿음의 형제 자매들이기 때문입니다.그래서 2023년 마지막 CRW 예배의 말씀을 데살로니가 전서 5장의 말씀을 준비했습니다. 우리는 계속해서 동질감과 동료의식으로 서로를 위하고 중보기도 하며 주님의 영광을 위해서 함께 세워갈 것입니다. 목요일 저녁 7:30에 만나 함께 예배드려요. CRW11월 성경 말씀 (설교: 김동원 목사)11월 23일: 2023년 마지막 목요찬양예배 11월 30일: Christmas & End of Year 2023 Fellowship Dinner *** 2023년 12월부터 2024년 2월까지 CRW 목요 찬양예배는 온라인 모임으로 모입니다. ——서로 덕을 세우라 (데살로니가전서 5:1~11) Building each other up! We do not belong to the night or to the darkness. So then, let us not be like others, who are asleep, but let us be awake and sober.7 자는 자들은 밤에 자고 취하는 자들은 밤에 취하되 8 우리는 낮에 속하였으니 정신을 차리고 믿음과 사랑의 호심경을 붙이고 구원의 소망의 투구를 쓰자.For those who sleep, sleep at night, and those who get drunk, get drunk at night. But since we belong to the day, let us be sober, putting on faith and love as a breastplate, and the hope of salvation as a helmet. 9 하나님이 우리를 세우심은 노하심에 이르게 하심이 아니요 오직 우리 주 예수 그리스도로 말미암아 구원을 받게 하심이라.For God did not appoint us to suffer wrath but to receive salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ. 10 예수께서 우리를 위하여 죽으사 우리로 하여금 깨어 있든지 자든지 자기와 함께 살게 하려 하셨느니라. He died for us so that, whether we are awake or asleep, we may live together with him. 11 그러므로 피차 권면하고 서로 덕을 세우기를 너희가 하는 것 같이 하라.Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing.

They will be called oaks of righteousness, a planting of the LORD for the display of his splendour.

The only reason they do this is to avoid being persecuted for the cross of Christ. 13 할례를 받은 그들이라도 스스로 율법은 지키지 아니하고 너희에게 할례를 받게 하려 하는 것은 그들이 너희의 육체로 자랑하려 함이라 Not even those who are circumcised keep the law, yet they want you to be circumcised that they may boast about your circumcision in the flesh. 14 그러나 내게는 우리 주 예수 그리스도의 십자가 외에 결코 자랑할 것이 없으니 그리스도로 말미암아 세상이 나를 대하여 십자가에 못 박히고 내가 또한 세상을 대하여 그러하니라 May I never boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, through which the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world. 15 할례나 무할례가 아무 것도 아니로되 오직 새로 지으심을 받는 것만이 중요하니라. 16 무릇 이 규례를 행하는 자에게와 하나님의 이스라엘에게 평강과 긍휼이 있을지어다 Neither circumcision nor uncircumcision means anything; what counts is the new creation. Peace and mercy to all who follow this rule - to the Israel of God.17 이 후로는 누구든지 나를 괴롭게 하지 말라 내가 내 몸에 예수의 흔적을 지니고 있노라 From now on, let no one cause me trouble, for I bear on my body the marks of Jesus.18 형제들아 우리 주 예수 그리스도의 은혜가 너희 심령에 있을지어다 아멘The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit, brothers and sisters. (19 OCTOBER 2023)2023년 CRW ‘섬김과 친밀함이 넘치는 예배  Humble and Intimate Worship'This Thursday, I am preaching from the Apostle Paul's letter to the church in Philippi. In his letter, especially towards the last chapter, Chapter 4, he urged and encouraged Christians to stand firmly on Jesus Christ.I believe that the unceasing persecution, threats, imprisonment, and death among Christians were rapidly increasing. Even Paul, who was himself in prison when he sent this letter to his fellow Christians, wrote to them, encouraging them to anchor their lives and faith in Jesus Christ alone, even if it meant death for many of them. Indeed, many early church Christians endured these series of trials and persecutions. The Bible reading mentions a few names of those who persevered for Jesus by praying, loving, and caring for each other.We, Cross River Worshippers, are also called to stand firm on Jesus, love one another, and spread the good news about Jesus Christ in our neighbourhood. I will say it again: Rejoice! Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. 6 아무 것도 염려하지 말고 다만 모든 일에 기도와 간구로, 너희 구할 것을 감사함으로 하나님께 아뢰라. 7 그리하면 모든 지각에 뛰어난 하나님의 평강이 그리스도 예수 안에서 너희 마음과 생각을 지키시리라.Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.8 끝으로 형제들아 무엇에든지 참되며 무엇에든지 경건하며 무엇에든지 옳으며 무엇에든지 정결하며 무엇에든지 사랑 받을 만하며 무엇에든지 칭찬 받을 만하며 무슨 덕이 있든지 무슨 기림이 있든지 이것들을 생각하라.Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable - if anything is excellent or praiseworthy - think about such things.  9 너희는 내게 배우고 받고 듣고 본 바를 행하라 그리하면 평강의 하나님이 너희와 함께 계시리라.Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me - put it into practice. And the God of peace will be with you.

(12 OCTOBER 2023)2023년 CRW ‘섬김과 친밀함이 넘치는 예배  Humble and Intimate Worship'이번 주에도 계속해서 ‘예수님의 비유 The parable of Jesus'에 대해서 목요찬양집회에서 말씀을 나눕니다. 이번 주 비유의 말씀은 하나님의 아들이신 구세주 예수님께서 이 땅에 오신 것과 믿지 않는 자들이 예수님을 십자가에서 돌아가시게 한 내용을 비유로 가르치시고 계십니다. 그리고 이 비유의 말씀을 자세히 묵상하면 믿지 않는 자들이 예수님을 십자가의 언덕으로 끌고간 근본적인 이유에 대해서 설명하고 있습니다. ‘바로 소유욕 yearning desire to possess, coveting for other's possesions' 입니다.  믿지 않거나 믿기를 거부한 이들은 심지어 주인이신 하나님의 것까지도 자신들이 소유할 수 있다고 생각하고 계획하고 죽이는 것도 마다하지 않고 진행했습니다. 우리의 신앙 생활에도 주님의 영광이 아닌 나의 기쁨을 위한 ‘소유욕'이 있나요? 주님께서 우리에게 복을 주신 것에 대한 소유욕, 그래서 서로 나누기 보다는 나 혼자 가지려고, 더 가지려고 하는 믿지 않는 자들의 소유욕이 있나요? 이번 주 마태복음 21장 말씀을 통해서 우리의 신앙을 점검하고, 더 가지려고 하는 소유욕이 아닌, 더 나눠주기 위한 소유욕에 대해서 함께 배우과 확인하는 시간을 가져요. 목요일 저녁 7:30에 만나 함께 예배드려요.CRW10월과 11월 성경 말씀 (설교: 김동원 목사)10월 19일: Matthew 22:1~14; Exodus 32:1~14; Philippians 4:1~910월 26일: 브리즈번 한인교회 연합집회 (24/10~26/10, 저녁 7시)11월 2일: Matthew 22:15~22; Exodus 33:12~23; 1 Thessalonians 1:1~1011월 9일: Matthew 22:34~46; Deuteronomy 34:1~12; 1 Thessalonians 2:1~8——비유 속의 주인공 (마태복음 21:33~41) The main character in the parable (Matthew 21:33~41)33 다른 한 비유를 들으라 한 집 주인이 포도원을 만들어 산울타리로 두르고 거기에 즙 짜는 틀을 만들고 망대를 짓고 농부들에게 세로 주고 타국에 갔더니 “Listen to another parable: There was a landowner who planted a vineyard. He put a wall around it, dug a winepress in it and built a watchtower.  Then he rented the vineyard to some farmers and moved to another place. 34 열매 거둘 때가 가까우매 그 열매를 받으려고 자기 종들을 농부들에게 보내니 When the harvest time approached, he sent his servants to the tenants to collect his fruit.35 농부들이 종들을 잡아 하나는 심히 때리고 하나는 죽이고 하나는 돌로 쳤거늘 36 다시 다른 종들을 처음보다 많이 보내니 그들에게도 그렇게 하였는지라. “The tenants seized his servants; they beat one, killed another, and stoned a third. Then he sent other servants to them, more than the first time, and the tenants treated them the same way. 37 후에 자기 아들을 보내며 이르되 그들이 내 아들은 존대하리라 하였더니 Last of all, he sent his son to them. ‘They will respect my son,' he said.38 농부들이 그 아들을 보고 서로 말하되 이는 상속자니 자 죽이고 그의 유산을 차지하자 하고 39 이에 잡아 포도원 밖에 내쫓아 죽였느니라. “But when the tenants saw the son, they said to each other, ‘This is the heir. Come, let's kill him and take his inheritance.' So they took him and threw him out of the vineyard and killed him.40 그러면 포도원 주인이 올 때에 그 농부들을 어떻게 하겠느냐?“Therefore, when the owner of the vineyard comes, what will he do to those tenants?” 41 그들이 말하되 그 악한 자들을 진멸하고 포도원은 제 때에 열매를 바칠 만한 다른 농부들에게 세로 줄지니이다“He will bring those wretches to a wretched end,” they replied, “and he will rent the vineyard to other tenants, who will give him his share of the crop at harvest time.”

(5 OCTOBER 2023)2023년 CRW ‘섬김과 친밀함이 넘치는 예배  Humble and Intimate Worship'이번 주 목요찬양집회에서는 ‘예수님의 비유 The parables of Jesus Christ'에 대해서 말씀을 나눕니다. 예수님께서 비유로 복음을 가르치시는 이유 중 하나는 듣는 사람들이 스스로 ‘옳고 그름'을 판단하도록 하기 위함입니다. 오늘 ‘두 아들'에 대한 비유도 마찬가지입니다. 말과 행동이 서로 다른 두 아들이지만, 결국 아버지께 순종한 아들은 누구인가요?신앙 생활을 하다보면 상황과 여건이 되지 않아서 하나님의 부르심에 순종하지 못하는 경우가 있습니다. 때로는 주변 사람들이 순종하지 못하도록 하는 경우도 있습니다. 그러나 최종 결정은 내가 스스로 믿음에 의지해서 하는 것입니다. 상황과 여건이 여러분의 인생을 결정짓게 하지 마십시오. 주변 사람들이 여러분의 신앙을 결정짓게 하지 마십시오. 오직 여러분 스스로 주님 안에서 최종 결정을 하는 것입니다. 그래서 주님의 부르심이 있으면 하던 일을 멈추고 상황과 여건과 주변의 영향을 참고 이겨내고 순종하시기 바랍니다. ‘두 아들' 비유에 대한 자세한 말씀은 이번 주 예배를 통해서 나눌 거예요. 목요일 저녁 7:30에 만나 함께 예배드려요.CRW10월과 11월 성경 말씀 (설교: 김동원 목사)10월 5일: Matthew 21:23~32; Exodus 17:1~7; Philippians 2:1~1310월 12일: Matthew 21:33~46; Exodus 20:1~20; Philippians 3:4~1410월 19일: Matthew 22:1~14; Exodus 32:1~14; Philippians 4:1~910월 26일: 브리즈번 한인교회 연합집회 (24/10~26/10, 저녁 7시)11월 2일: Matthew 22:15~22; Exodus 33:12~23; 1 Thessalonians 1:1~1011월 9일: Matthew 22:34~46; Deuteronomy 34:1~12; 1 Thessalonians 2:1~8——비유를 이해하는 방법 (마태복음 21:28~32) How to understand the biblical parables (Matthew 21:28~32)28 어떤 사람에게 두 아들이 있는데 맏아들에게 가서 이르되 얘 오늘 포도원에 가서 일하라 하니 There was a man who had two sons. He answered, ‘I will, sir,' but he did not go.31 그 둘 중의 누가 아버지의 뜻대로 하였느냐? 이르되 둘째 아들이니이다 예수께서 그들에게 이르시되 내가 진실로 너희에게 이르노니 세리들과 창녀들이 너희보다 먼저 하나님의 나라에 들어가리라.“Which of the two did what his father wanted?”“The first,” they answered.Jesus said to them, “Truly I tell you, the tax collectors and the prostitutes are entering the kingdom of God ahead of you.32 요한이 의의 도로 너희에게 왔거늘 너희는 그를 믿지 아니하였으되 세리와 창녀는 믿었으며 너희는 이것을 보고도 끝내 뉘우쳐 믿지 아니하였도다. For John came to you to show you the way of righteousness, and you did not believe him, but the tax collectors and the prostitutes did. And even after you saw this, you did not repent and believe him.(29절과 30절은한글성경과영어성경이큰아들과둘째아들의대답이서로다르게번역이되어있다. 신약원어성경에근거하면영어성경번역이옳은 번역이다.)

Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others.

(21 SEPTEMBER 2023)2023년 CRW ‘섬김과 친밀함이 넘치는 예배  Humble and Intimate Worship'이번 주 목요찬양집회를 통해서 ‘사랑과 화해가 아닌 비판의 위험과 결과'에 대해서 말씀을 나눕니다. 로마서 14:1~12은 특히 하나님께서 우리를 비판하지 않으시고 예수 그리스도를 보내사 우리를 향한 사랑과 화해를 완성하신 것을 강조하고 있습니다. 주님을 믿는 우리가 서로 다른 믿음의 형제 자매들과 함께 신앙 생활하면서 사랑과 배려, 용서와 화해의 삶을 사는 것은 우리 모두의 아버지가 한분 하나님이시기 때문입니다. 즉, 우리는 결코 떨어지거나 떼어낼 수 있는 한 가족이기 때문입니다. 또한 우리가 모이는 가장 유일한 목적은 하나님을 예배하며 찬양하는 것이기 때문입니다.이번 주 목요찬양집회를 통해 비판이 아닌 사랑과 화해의 믿음 생활에 대한 말씀을 나눠봐요. 목요일 저녁 7:30에 만나 함께 예배드려요.CRW——믿는 자들이 범하는 비판의 결과 (로마서 14:1~12) Criticism among Christians (Romans 14:1~12)1 믿음이 연약한 자를 너희가 받되 그의 의견을 비판하지 말라.Accept the one whose faith is weak, without quarrelling over disputable matters. 2 어떤 사람은 모든 것을 먹을 만한 믿음이 있고 믿음이 연약한 자는 채소만 먹느니라.One person's faith allows them to eat anything, but another, whose faith is weak, eats only vegetables. 3 먹는 자는 먹지 않는 자를 업신여기지 말고 먹지 않는 자는 먹는 자를 비판하지 말라 이는 하나님이 그를 받으셨음이라. The one who eats everything must not treat with contempt the one who does not, and the one who does not eat everything must not judge the one who does, for God has accepted them. 4 남의 하인을 비판하는 너는 누구냐 그가 서 있는 것이나 넘어지는 것이 자기 주인에게 있으매 그가 세움을 받으리니 이는 그를 세우시는 권능이 주께 있음이라.Who are you to judge someone else's servant? To their own master, servants stand or fall. And they will stand, for the Lord is able to make them stand.5 어떤 사람은 이 날을 저 날보다 낫게 여기고 어떤 사람은 모든 날을 같게 여기나니 각각 자기 마음으로 확정할지니라.One person considers one day more sacred than another; another considers every day alike. Each of them should be fully convinced in their own mind. 6 날을 중히 여기는 자도 주를 위하여 중히 여기고 먹는 자도 주를 위하여 먹으니 이는 하나님께 감사함이요 먹지 않는 자도 주를 위하여 먹지 아니하며 하나님께 감사하느니라.Whoever regards one day as special does so to the Lord. Whoever eats meat does so to the Lord, for they give thanks to God; and whoever abstains does so to the Lord and gives thanks to God. 7 우리 중에 누구든지 자기를 위하여 사는 자가 없고 자기를 위하여 죽는 자도 없도다.For none of us lives for ourselves alone, and none of us dies for ourselves alone. 8 우리가 살아도 주를 위하여 살고 죽어도 주를 위하여 죽나니 그러므로 사나 죽으나 우리가 주의 것이로다.If we live, we live for the Lord; and if we die, we die for the Lord. So, whether we live or die, we belong to the Lord. 9 이를 위하여 그리스도께서 죽었다가 다시 살아나셨으니 곧 죽은 자와 산 자의 주가 되려 하심이라.For this very reason, Christ died and returned to life so that he might be the Lord of both the dead and the living.10 네가 어찌하여 네 형제를 비판하느냐 어찌하여 네 형제를 업신여기느냐 우리가 다 하나님의 심판대 앞에 서리라.You, then, why do you judge your brother or sister? Or why do you treat them with contempt? Therefore love is the fulfilment of the law.——16 하나님은 사랑이시라 사랑 안에 거하는 자는 하나님 안에 거하고 하나님도 그의 안에 거하시느니라 God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in them. 17 이로써 사랑이 우리에게 온전히 이루어진 것은 우리로 심판 날에 담대함을 가지게 하려 함이니 주께서 그러하심과 같이 우리도 이 세상에서 그러하니라 This is how love is made complete among us so that we will have confidence on the day of judgment: In this world we are like Jesus. 18 사랑 안에 두려움이 없고 온전한 사랑이 두려움을 내쫓나니 두려움에는 형벌이 있음이라 두려워하는 자는 사랑 안에서 온전히 이루지 못하였느니라 There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love.19 우리가 사랑함은 그가 먼저 우리를 사랑하셨음이라 We love because he first loved us

One field had rain; another had none and dried up.4:8 두 세 성읍 사람이 어떤 성읍으로 비틀거리며 물을 마시러 가서 만족하게 마시지 못하였으나 너희가 내게로 돌아오지 아니하였느니라 여호와의 말씀이니라 People staggered from town to town for water but did not get enough to drink, yet you have not returned to me,” declares the LORD.4:9 내가 곡식을 마르게 하는 재앙과 깜부기 재앙으로 너희를 쳤으며 팥중이로 너희의 많은 동산과 포도원과 무화과나무와 감람나무를 다 먹게 하였으나 너희가 내게로 돌아오지 아니하였느니라 여호와의 말씀이니라 “Many times I struck your gardens and vineyards, destroying them with blight and mildew. Locusts devoured your fig and olive trees, yet you have not returned to me,” declares the LORD.4:10 내가 너희 중에 전염병 보내기를 애굽에서 한 것처럼 하였으며 칼로 너희 청년들을 죽였으며 너희 말들을 노략하게 하며 너희 진영의 악취로 코를 찌르게 하였으나 너희가 내게로 돌아오지 아니하였느니라 여호와의 말씀이니라 “I sent plagues among you as I did to Egypt. I killed your young men with the sword, along with your captured horses. I filled your nostrils with the stench of your camps, yet you have not returned to me,” declares the LORD.4:12 그러므로 이스라엘아 내가 이와 같이 네게 행하리라 내가 이것을 네게 행하리니 이스라엘아 네 하나님 만나기를 준비하라 “Therefore this is what I will do to you, Israel, and because I will do this to you, Israel, prepare to meet your God.”4:13 보라 산들을 지으며 바람을 창조하며 자기 뜻을 사람에게 보이며 아침을 어둡게 하며 땅의 높은 데를 밟는 이는 그의 이름이 만군의 하나님 여호와시니라He who forms the mountains, who creates the wind, and who reveals his thoughts to mankind, who turns dawn to darkness, and treads on the heights of the earth - the LORD God Almighty is his name.7:7 또 내게 보이신 것이 이러하니라 다림줄을 가지고 쌓은 담 곁에 주께서 손에 다림줄을 잡고 서셨더니 This is what he showed me: The Lord was standing by a wall that had been built true to plumb, with a plumb line in his hand. 7:8 여호와께서 내게 이르시되 아모스야 네가 무엇을 보느냐 내가 대답하되 다림줄이니이다 주께서 이르시되 내가 다림줄을 내 백성 이스라엘 가운데 두고 다시는 용서하지 아니하리라.And the LORD asked me, “What do you see, Amos?” “A plumb line, ” I replied. (Gabba Game Day)——나를 기억하고 기념하라 ! 12 memorial stones in our life (Joshua 4:1~9)1 그 모든 백성이 요단을 건너가기를 마치매 여호와께서 여호수아에게 말씀하여 이르시되 When the whole nation had finished crossing the Jordan, the LORD said to Joshua,2 백성의 각 지파에 한 사람씩 열두 사람을 택하고 “Choose twelve men from among the people, one from each tribe, 3 그들에게 명령하여 이르기를 요단 가운데 제사장들의 발이 굳게 선 그 곳에서 돌 열둘을 택하여 그것을 가져다가 오늘밤 너희가 유숙할 그 곳에 두게 하라 하시니라 and tell them to take up twelve stones from the middle of the Jordan, from right where the priests are standing, and carry them over with you and put them down at the place where you stay tonight.”4 여호수아가 이스라엘 자손 중에서 각 지파에 한 사람씩 준비한 그 열두 사람을 불러 So Joshua called together the twelve men he had appointed from the Israelites, one from each tribe,5 그들에게 이르되 요단 가운데로 들어가 너희 하나님 여호와의 궤 앞으로 가서 이스라엘 자손들의 지파 수대로 각기 돌 한 개씩 가져다가 어깨에 메라 and said to them, “Go over before the ark of the LORD your God into the middle of the Jordan. Each of you is to take up a stone on his shoulder, 6 이것이 너희 중에 표징이 되리라 후일에 너희의 자손들이 물어 이르되 이 돌들은 무슨 뜻이냐 하거든 according to the number of the tribes of the Israelites, to serve as a sign among you. In the future, when your children ask you, ‘What do these stones mean?'7 그들에게 이르기를 요단 물이 여호와의 언약궤 앞에서 끊어졌나니 곧 언약궤가 요단을 건널 때에 요단 물이 끊어졌으므로 이 돌들이 이스라엘 자손에게 영원히 기념이 되리라 하라 하니라 tell them that the flow of the Jordan was cut off before the ark of the covenant of the LORD. When it crossed the Jordan, the waters of the Jordan were cut off. These stones are to be a memorial to the people of Israel forever.”8 이스라엘 자손들이 여호수아가 명령한 대로 행하되 여호와께서 여호수아에게 이르신 대로 이스라엘 자손들의 지파의 수를 따라 요단 가운데에서 돌 열둘을 택하여 자기들이 유숙할 곳으로 가져다가 거기에 두었더라 So the Israelites did as Joshua commanded them. They took twelve stones from the middle of the Jordan, according to the number of the tribes of the Israelites, as the LORD had told Joshua; and they carried them over with them to their camp, where they put them down.9 여호수아가 또 요단 가운데 곧 언약궤를 멘 제사장들의 발이 선 곳에 돌 열둘을 세웠더니 오늘까지 거기에 있더라 Joshua set up the twelve stones that had been in the middle of the Jordan at the spot where the priests who carried the ark of the covenant had stood. And they are there to this day.

(13 April 2023)Happy Easter!내일 함께 모여 드리는 목요찬양집회 말씀은 사도행전 10:34~44의 말씀입니다. 로마 군인인 고넬료를 만난 사도 베드로가 부활하신 예수님에 대해 설교하는 있는 내용입니다. 그리고 그 말씀이 선포될 때 성령이 그 자리에 모임 모든 이들에게 임하는 은혜가 기록이 되어 있습니다. 내일 함께 드리는 예배에도 부활하신 예수님의 복음이 선포되고, 성령이 모든 예배자들에게 임하기를 기도하며 기대합니다.이번 주 목요일 저녁에 봐요 ^^CRW——Christ is risen! (Acts 10:34~44) 부활하신 예수님 (사도행전 10:34~44)34 베드로가 입을 열어 말하되 내가 참으로 하나님은 사람의 외모를 보지 아니하시고 35 각 나라 중 하나님을 경외하며 의를 행하는 사람은 다 받으시는 줄 깨달았도다 Then Peter began to speak: “I now realise how true it is that God does not show favouritism but accepts from every nation the one who fears him and does what is right. 36 만유의 주 되신 예수 그리스도로 말미암아 화평의 복음을 전하사 이스라엘 자손들에게 보내신 말씀 You know the message God sent to the people of Israel, announcing the good news of peace through Jesus Christ, who is Lord of all. 37 곧 요한이 그 세례를 반포한 후에 갈릴리에서 시작하여 온 유대에 두루 전파된 그것을 너희도 알거니와 You know what has happened throughout the province of Judea, beginning in Galilee after the baptism that John preached38 하나님이 나사렛 예수에게 성령과 능력을 기름 붓듯 하셨으매 그가 두루 다니시며 선한 일을 행하시고 마귀에게 눌린 모든 사람을 고치셨으니 이는 하나님이 함께 하셨음이라 how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and power, and how he went around doing good and healing all who were under the power of the devil, because God was with him.39 우리는 유대인의 땅과 예루살렘에서 그가 행하신 모든 일에 증인이라 그를 그들이 나무에 달아 죽였으나 40 하나님이 사흘 만에 다시 살리사 나타내시되 “We are witnesses of everything he did in the country of the Jews and in Jerusalem. They killed him by hanging him on a cross, but God raised him from the dead on the third day and caused him to be seen. 41 모든 백성에게 하신 것이 아니요 오직 미리 택하신 증인 곧 죽은 자 가운데서 부활하신 후 그를 모시고 음식을 먹은 우리에게 하신 것이라 He was not seen by all the people, but by witnesses whom God had already chosen - by us who ate and drank with him after he rose from the dead. 42 우리에게 명하사 백성에게 전도하되 하나님이 살아 있는 자와 죽은 자의 재판장으로 정하신 자가 곧 이 사람인 것을 증언하게 하셨고 He commanded us to preach to the people and to testify that he is the one whom God appointed as judge of the living and the dead. 43 그에 대하여 모든 선지자도 증언하되 그를 믿는 사람들이 다 그의 이름을 힘입어 죄 사함을 받는다 하였느니라All the prophets testify about him that everyone who believes in him receives forgiveness of sins through his name.”44 베드로가 이 말을 할 때에 성령이 말씀 듣는 모든 사람에게 내려오시니라.While Peter was still speaking these words, the Holy Spirit came on all who heard the message.

(23 March 2023)1951년에 뉴질랜드 등산가 Sir Edmund Hilary씨가 7,000미터 높이까지 올라갔지만 Mount Everest (8,848 metre) 정상에 오르는 것을 실패합니다. 그리고 2년 뒤 1953년 5월 29일 Sherpa Tenzing Norgay씨와 함께 다시 도전해서  Mount Everest 정상을 정복합니다. 그리고 나서 이런 얘기를 인터뷰에서 합니다, “It is not the mountain we conquer but ourselves.” (https://www.nationalgeographic.com/adventure/article/sir-edmund-hillary-tenzing-norgay-1953)믿음의 여정도 비슷한 마음가짐과 삶의 태도를 요구하고 있습니다. 세상의 유혹과 어려움들이 많습니다. 그러나 우리가 주님을 믿는 믿음으로 그것들을 이겨낼 때, 우리는 믿음의 승리와 성취를 경험할 수 있습니다. 결국은 주변의 상황이 변화되지 않아도 내가 믿음으로 승리하면 모든 상황들이 내 발아래 놓이게 됩니다. In a smilier metaphor, we frequently face challenges and difficulties in the world; however, as long as we hold on our faith in Jesus who gives us a series of victories we will eventually climb up on any mountain and put everything under our feet. Not by our might nor our power, but only by the grace of God in Jesus Christ, we will be lifted up on the peak of each mountain we face everyday. 우리 눈 앞에 보이는 것보다 훨씬 위대하시고 강한 주님을 바라보는 신앙인들에게는 아무리 높은 산이라 할지라도 우리는 주님과 동행하며 마침내 정상에 올라가게 될 것입니다. 그리고 그곳에서 믿음의 조상들이 했듯이 하나님을 예배하게 될 것입니다.이번 주 목요일 저녁에 봐요 ^^CRW——눈을 감은 신앙인들 (요한복음 9:35~41) Spiritual Blindness (John 9:35~41)35 예수께서 그들이 그 사람을 쫓아냈다 하는 말을 들으셨더니 그를 만나사 이르시되 네가 인자를 믿느냐 36 대답하여 이르되 주여 그가 누구시오니이까 내가 믿고자 하나이다Jesus heard that they had thrown him out, and when he found him, he said, “Do you believe in the Son of Man?” “Who is he, sir?” the man asked. “Tell me so that I may believe in him.”37 예수께서 이르시되 네가 그를 보았거니와 지금 너와 말하는 자가 그이니라 38 이르되 주여 내가 믿나이다 하고 절하는지라 Jesus said, “You have now seen him; in fact, he is the one speaking with you.” Then the man said, “Lord, I believe,” and he worshiped him.39 예수께서 이르시되 내가 심판하러 이 세상에 왔으니 보지 못하는 자들은 보게 하고 보는 자들은 맹인이 되게 하려 함이라 하시니 Jesus said, “For judgment I have come into this world, so that the blind will see and those who see will become blind.”40 바리새인 중에 예수와 함께 있던 자들이 이 말씀을 듣고 이르되 우리도 맹인인가 41 예수께서 이르시되 너희가 맹인이 되었더라면 죄가 없으려니와 본다고 하니 너희 죄가 그대로 있느니라Some Pharisees who were with him heard him say this and asked, “What? Are we blind too?”Jesus said, “If you were blind, you would not be guilty of sin; but now that you claim you can see, your guilt remains.

(16 March 2023)이스라엘 백성들은 이제 막 이집트를 떠나 약속의 땅을 향하고 있는데 벌써부터 불평 불만 입니다. 음식과 물이 없다고 (뉴진스 노래네요) 하나님께 불평하고 모세를 원망하더니, 오늘 17장 에서 다시 마실 물이 없다고 불평과 원망을 쏟아 놓습니다. 이후에도 이스라엘 백성들은 끊임없이 만족하지 못하고, 따라서 감사하지 못하는 삶을 살았습니다. 최근 30대 초반의 한 젊은 치과의사 선생님의 장례예배를 인도했습니다. 겉으로 보기에는 부러운 삶을 살았던 젋은 선생님인데, 가족들을 만나서 성장과정을 들으면서 가족들 간에 있었던 일들, 그동안 본인이 겪은 일들을 들으면서 오히려 제가 더욱 영적으로 힘든 한주간을 보냈습니다. 겉으로 보이는 것 속에 감쳐져 있는 외로움, 불만, 답답함. 아마 많은 20대와 30대 젊은 이들이 겪는 일들이 아닐까 하면서 하나님께 이렇게 기도했습니다. “Lord, God I won't let your young people kill themselves anymore. I will reaching out to them!”이번 주 말씀을 ‘고난의 목적 Disciplining God'을 통해서 하나님과의 온전한 관계가 회복되고, 자신의 온전한 모습이 회복되는 예배가 되도록 기도합니다. 이번주 목요일 저녁에 봐요 ^^CRW——고난의 목적  The disciplining God1 이스라엘 자손의 온 회중이 여호와의 명령대로 신 광야에서 떠나 그 노정대로 행하여 르비딤에 장막을 쳤으나 백성이 마실 물이 없는지라 The whole Israelite community set out from the Desert of Sin, traveling from place to place as the LORD commanded. They camped at Rephidim, but there was no water for the people to drink.2 백성이 모세와 다투어 이르되 우리에게 물을 주어 마시게 하라 모세가 그들에게 이르되 너희가 어찌하여 나와 다투느냐 너희가 어찌하여 여호와를 시험하느냐 So they quarreled with Moses and said, “Give us water to drink.” Moses replied, “Why do you quarrel with me? Why do you put the LORD to the test?” 3 거기서 백성이 목이 말라 물을 찾으매 그들이 모세에게 대하여 원망하여 이르되 당신이 어찌하여 우리를 애굽에서 인도해 내어서 우리와 우리 자녀와 우리 가축이 목말라 죽게 하느냐 But the people were thirsty for water there, and they grumbled against Moses. They said, “Why did you bring us up out of Egypt to make us and our children and livestock die of thirst?”4 모세가 여호와께 부르짖어 이르되 내가 이 백성에게 어떻게 하리이까 그들이 조금 있으면 내게 돌을 던지겠나이다Then Moses cried out to the LORD, “What am I to do with these people? They are almost ready to stone me.” 5 여호와께서 모세에게 이르시되 백성 앞을 지나서 이스라엘 장로들을 데리고 나일 강을 치던 네 지팡이를 손에 잡고 가라 The LORD answered Moses, “Go out in front of the people. Take with you some of the elders of Israel and take in your hand the staff with which you struck the Nile, and go. 6 내가 호렙 산에 있는 그 반석 위 거기서 네 앞에 서리니 너는 그 반석을 치라 그것에서 물이 나오리니 백성이 마시리라 모세가 이스라엘 장로들의 목전에서 그대로 행하니라 I will stand there before you by the rock at Horeb. Strike the rock, and water will come out of it for the people to drink.” So Moses did this in the sight of the elders of Israel. 7 그가 그 곳 이름을 맛사 또는 므리바라 불렀으니 이는 이스라엘 자손이 다투었음이요 또는 그들이 여호와를 시험하여 이르기를 여호와께서 우리 중에 계신가 안 계신가 하였음이더라 And he called the place Massah and Meribah because the Israelites quarreled and because they tested the LORD saying, “Is the LORD among us or not?”

(9 March 2023)The most common requirement in our faith journey is to make righteous and faithful decisions according to the will of God. 신앙 생활은 항상 믿음의 올바른 선택을 요구하는데, 때로는 우리가 순종할 수 없는 그런 요구사황도 있습니다. 예를 들면, 아브람과 같이 정든 고향을 떠나 전혀 알지 못하는 곳으로 떠나라는 명령이나, 모든 것을 가난한 이들에게 나눠주고 예수님을 따르라는 명령은 믿음이 좋은 사람들도 순종하고 실천하기 굉장히 어려운 요구사항입니다. 그런데, 본인에게 손해가 되고 때로는 피해가 오는 상황에서도 순종하고, 묵묵히 주님이 예비하신 길을 걸으면 그 결과로 하나님의 놀라운 능력과 약속의 성취를 목격하게 됩니다. 이번 주 목요찬양집회에서는 아브람의 순종을 나누면서 우리의 순종과 믿음을 점검하는 시간이 되기를 기대하며 기도합니다. 이번주 목요일 저녁에 봐요 ^^CRW——나의 안식처를 떠나며 LEAVING YOUR HARAN BEHIND (GENESIS 12:1~5)1 여호와께서 아브람에게 이르시되 너는 너의 고향과 친척과 아버지의 집을 떠나 내가 네게 보여 줄 땅으로 가라 The LORD had said to Abram, “Go from your country, your people and your father's household to the land I will show you.2 내가 너로 큰 민족을 이루고 네게 복을 주어 네 이름을 창대하게 하리니 너는 복이 될지라 I will make you into a great nation, and I will bless you; I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing.3 너를 축복하는 자에게는 내가 복을 내리고 너를 저주하는 자에게는 내가 저주하리니 땅의 모든 족속이 너로 말미암아 복을 얻을 것이라 하신지라 I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse; and all peoples on earth will be blessed through you.4 이에 아브람이 여호와의 말씀을 따라갔고 롯도 그와 함께 갔으며 아브람이 하란을 떠날 때에 칠십오 세였더라 So Abram went, as the LORD had told him; and Lot went with him. Abram was seventy-five years old when he set out from Haran.5 아브람이 그의 아내 사래와 조카 롯과 하란에서 모은 모든 소유와 얻은 사람들을 이끌고 가나안 땅으로 가려고 떠나서 마침내 가나안 땅에 들어갔더라 He took his wife Sarai, his nephew Lot, all the possessions they had accumulated and the people they had acquired in Haran, and they set out for the land of Canaan, and they arrived there.

(2 March 2023)사순절 (Lent)이 시작이 되었습니다. 예수님께서 부활하신 부활주일 전까지, 주말과 고난주간을 제외한 40일 동안을 사순절이라 부릅니다. 이 기간은 예수님의 고난에 참여하며 십자가의 희생을 생각하는 기독교 절기입니다. 그래서 사순절 기간동안 가장 중요한 단어는 ‘참여와 희생'입니다. 예수님의 고난과 구원의 여정은 세례와 바로 이어지는 사탄의 유혹으로부터 시작 됩니다. 따라서 이번 주에는 예수님이 받으신 세례와 유혹에 대해서 말씀을 나눕니다.  이번주 목요일 저녁에 봐요 ^^CRW——세례와 시험 Baptism and Temptation (Matthew 3:13 ~ 4:11)3장13 이 때에 예수께서 갈릴리로부터 요단 강에 이르러 요한에게 세례를 받으려 하시니 Then Jesus came from Galilee to the Jordan to be baptized by John. 14 요한이 말려 이르되 내가 당신에게서 세례를 받아야 할 터인데 당신이 내게로 오시나이까 But John tried to deter him, saying, “I need to be baptized by you, and do you come to me?”15 예수께서 대답하여 이르시되 이제 허락하라 우리가 이와 같이 하여 모든 의를 이루는 것이 합당하니라 하시니 이에 요한이 허락하는지라 Jesus replied, “Let it be so now; it is proper for us to do this to fulfill all righteousness.” Then John consented.16 예수께서 세례를 받으시고 곧 물에서 올라오실새 하늘이 열리고 하나님의 성령이 비둘기 같이 내려 자기 위에 임하심을 보시더니 As soon as Jesus was baptized, he went up out of the water. (23 February 2023)지난주부터 Hannah Arendt 교수님이 쓰신 책 ‘Eichmann in Jerusalem: A Report on the Banality of Evil'을 읽기 시작했는데요. 1)인간의 본성과 2)책임감과 관련된 심리적 결단과 3)목표를 이루기 위한 행동의 표현에 대해 잘 가르쳐 주는 책입니다. 시간을 내서 이 영어 단어 ‘Banality'를 한번 찾아 보세요. 개인이나 공동의 목적을 이루기 위해서 범죄를 저지르면서도 윤리 도덕적으로 무감각한 숨겨진 악의 실체를 이 책에서는 독일 나찌 정권의 학살을 예로 들면서 보여주고 있습니다. 이 책을 읽으면서 신앙 생활에 대해서도 동시에 생각을 해 봤습니다. 우리의 신앙' 생활에 banality'에 적용되는 모순과 오류가 과연 얼마나 있을까! 특히 마가복음 4장에 풍랑 속에서 우왕좌왕 불안에 떨고 있는 제자들과 그 상황에서도 주무시는 예수님과 대비되는 모습이 우리에게 ‘banality of faith'에 대해서 가르치는 것은 무엇인지 생각해 보게 됩니다. 이렇게 주제가 거창한 것을 보니, 이번주 말씀은 기도하면서 정말 열심히 준비 해야겠습니다. 이번주 목요일 저녁에 봐요 ^^CRW——그가 누구이신가? (마가복음 4:35~41, Mark 4:35~41)35   그 날 저물 때에 제자들에게 이르시되 우리가 저편으로 건너가자 하시니 That day when evening came, he said to his disciples, “Let us go over to the other side.” 36   그들이 무리를 떠나 예수를 배에 계신 그대로 모시고 가매 다른 배들도 함께 하더니 Leaving the crowd behind, they took him along, just as he was, in the boat. There were also other boats with him. 37   큰 광풍이 일어나며 물결이 배에 부딪쳐 들어와 배에 가득하게 되었더라 A furious squall came up, and the waves broke over the boat, so that it was nearly swamped. 38   예수께서는 고물에서 베개를 베고 주무시더니 제자들이 깨우며 이르되 선생님이여 우리가 죽게 된 것을 돌보지 아니하시나이까 하니 Jesus was in the stern, sleeping on a cushion. The disciples woke him and said to him, “Teacher, don't you care if we drown?”39   예수께서 깨어 바람을 꾸짖으시며 바다더러 이르시되 잠잠하라 고요하라 하시니 바람이 그치고 아주 잔잔하여지더라 He got up, rebuked the wind and said to the waves, “Quiet! Be still!” Then the wind died down and it was completely calm.40   이에 제자들에게 이르시되 어찌하여 이렇게 무서워하느냐 너희가 어찌 믿음이 없느냐 하시니 He said to his disciples, “Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith?”41   그들이 심히 두려워하여 서로 말하되 그가 누구이기에 바람과 바다도 순종하는가 하였더라They were terrified and asked each other, “Who is this? Even the wind and the waves obey him!”

(15 December 2022) 이번 주 CRW 목요찬양집회는 ‘실족하지 말지어다 Do not stumble! (3 November 2022)  Christian Fellowship with God Ruth 1:1~17 1 사사들이 치리하던 때에 그 땅에 흉년이 드니라 유다 베들레헴에 한 사람이 그의 아내와 두 아들을 데리고 모압 지방에 가서 거류하였는데 2 그 사람의 이름은 엘리멜렉이요 그의 아내의 이름은 나오미요 그의 두 아들의 이름은 말론과 기룐이니 유다 베들레헴 에브랏 사람들이더라 그들이 모압 지방에 들어가서 거기 살더니 In the days when the judges ruled, there was a famine in the land. So a man from Bethlehem in Judah, together with his wife and two sons, went to live for a while in the country of Moab. The man's name was Elimelek, his wife's name was Naomi, and the names of his two sons were Mahlon and Kilion. They were Ephrathites from Bethlehem, Judah. And they went to Moab and lived there.  3 나오미의 남편 엘리멜렉이 죽고 나오미와 그의 두 아들이 남았으며 4 그들은 모압 여자 중에서 그들의 아내를 맞이하였는데 하나의 이름은 오르바요 하나의 이름은 룻이더라 그들이 거기에 거주한 지 십 년쯤에 5 말론과 기룐 두 사람이 다 죽고 그 여인은 두 아들과 남편의 뒤에 남았더라  Now Elimelek, Naomi's husband, died, and she was left with her two sons. They married Moabite women, one named Orpah and the other Ruth. After they had lived there about ten years, both Mahlon and Kilion also died, and Naomi was left without her two sons and her husband. 6 그 여인이 모압 지방에서 여호와께서 자기 백성을 돌보시사 그들에게 양식을 주셨다 함을 듣고 이에 두 며느리와 함께 일어나 모압 지방에서 돌아오려 하여 7 있던 곳에서 나오고 두 며느리도 그와 함께 하여 유다 땅으로 돌아오려고 길을 가다가 8 나오미가 두 며느리에게 이르되 너희는 각기 너희 어머니의 집으로 돌아가라 너희가 죽은 자들과 나를 선대한 것 같이 여호와께서 너희를 선대하시기를 원하며  When Naomi heard in Moab that the LORD had come to the aid of his people by providing food for them, she and her daughters-in-law prepared to return home from there. With her two daughters-in-law she left the place where she had been living and set out on the road that would take them back to the land of Judah. Then Naomi said to her two daughters-in-law, “Go back, each of you, to your mother's home. 9 여호와께서 너희에게 허락하사 각기 남편의 집에서 위로를 받게 하시기를 원하노라 하고 그들에게 입 맞추매 그들이 소리를 높여 울며 10 나오미에게 이르되 아니니이다 우리는 어머니와 함께 어머니의 백성에게로 돌아가겠나이다 하는지라   May the LORD show you kindness, as you have shown kindness to your dead husbands and to me. Why would you come with me? Am I going to have any more sons, who could become your husbands? Return home, my daughters; I am too old to have another husband. Even if I thought there was still hope for me - even if I had a husband tonight and then gave birth to sons - would you wait until they grew up? Would you remain unmarried for them? 내 딸들아 그렇지 아니하니라 여호와의 손이 나를 치셨으므로 나는 너희로 말미암아 더욱 마음이 아프도다 하매 14 그들이 소리를 높여 다시 울더니 오르바는 그의 시어머니에게 입 맞추되 룻은 그를 쫓았더라  No, my daughters. It is more bitter for me than for you, because the LORD's hand has turned against me! ” At this they wept aloud again. Then Orpah kissed her mother-in-law goodbye, but Ruth clung to her. 15 나오미가 또 이르되 보라 네 동서는 그의 백성과 그의 신들에게로 돌아가나니 너도 너의 동서를 따라 돌아가라 하니 16 룻이 이르되 내게 어머니를 떠나며 어머니를 따르지 말고 돌아가라 강권하지 마옵소서 어머니께서 가시는 곳에 나도 가고 어머니께서 머무시는 곳에서 나도 머물겠나이다 어머니의 백성이 나의 백성이 되고 어머니의 하나님이 나의 하나님이 되시리니 “Look,” said Naomi, “your sister-in-law is going back to her people and her gods.   Go back with her.” But Ruth replied, “Don't urge me to leave you or to turn back from you. Where you go I will go, and where you stay I will stay. Your people will be my people and your God my God.  17 어머니께서 죽으시는 곳에서 나도 죽어 거기 묻힐 것이라 만일 내가 죽는 일 외에 어머니를 떠나면 여호와께서 내게 벌을 내리시고 더 내리시기를 원하나이다 하는지라 Where you die I will die, and there I will be buried. May the LORD deal with me, be it ever so severely, if even death separates you and me.”

(27 October 2022) 신약 성경 후반부에 위치한 히브리서의 주제는 ‘예수 그리스도는 살아계신 주님 Jesus is the living Lord' 입니다. ‘살아계신 주님 The living Lord'라는 관점으로 히브리서를 읽게 되면 우리의 신앙 또한 ‘살아 있는 신앙 Our faith in Jesus is also Living Faith' 인 것을 확인할 수 있습니다. 그래서 히브리서 3장의 말씀에서 강조하는 것은 ‘오늘을 어떻게 살 것이냐? How would you choose to live for TODAY?' 입니다.  기원전 400년도에 활동했던 그리스 희극 작가 Aristophanes는 ‘PLUTUS (WEALTH)'를 발표하면서 ‘재산의 분배와 그것을 성공하는 신'이 ‘최고의 신인 Zeus'를 대신하는 최고의 신에서 되어야 한다는 내용을 희극으로 묘사하고 있습니다. (20 October 2022) 삶의 목적은 여러 원인이 있지만, 일반적으로 나이와 환경에 따라 달라집니다. There are several factors that may change your life purpose/plan; in general, your age and career play the major role in changing and updating your life purpose/goal. 예를 들면, 스무살에 가졌던 삶의 목적이 30대와 40대로 가면 변경되고, 한국에서 가졌던 삶의 목적은 호주로 오면서 다른 목적으로 변경이 됩니다.  그렇다면, 신앙의 목적도 자신의 환경과 나이에 따라 변경이 될까요? How about your faith? Can it be also changed as you get older and deal with different life situations? 혹은 삶의 목적이 바뀌면서 신앙의 목적도 바뀔까요? 주님께서 우리를 향한 계획과 부르심이 환경과 시간에 따라 변화된다면 주님과 우리의 관계에는 안정과 신뢰가 없는 항상 일시적인 관계일 것입니다. If the Lord's relationship to us was changeable, there would be no security, no consistency, no trust and no reason to follow him because it would be just another temporary one. 그러나, 주님은 언제나 변함이 없으시고 신실하신 분이십니다. Our God is the unchanging God! (Mark 12:41~44) 41 예수께서 헌금함을 대하여 앉으사 무리가 어떻게 헌금함에 돈 넣는가를 보실새 여러 부자는 많이 넣는데 Jesus sat down opposite the place where the offerings were put and watched the crowd putting their money into the temple treasury. Many rich people threw in large amounts. 42 한 가난한 과부는 와서 두 렙돈 곧 한 고드란트를 넣는지라 But a poor widow came and put in two very small copper coins, worth only a few cents. 43 예수께서 제자들을 불러다가 이르시되 내가 진실로 너희에게 이르노니 이 가난한 과부는 헌금함에 넣는 모든 사람보다 많이 넣었도다 Calling his disciples to him, Jesus said, “Truly I tell you, this poor widow has put more into the treasury than all the others.  44 그들은 다 그 풍족한 중에서 넣었거니와 이 과부는 그 가난한 중에서 자기의 모든 소유 곧 생활비 전부를 넣었느니라 하시니라They all gave out of their wealth; but she, out of her poverty, put in everything - all she had to live on.”

You must certainly give them property as an inheritance among their father's relatives and give their father's inheritance to them. 8  이스라엘 자손에게 말하여 이르기를 사람이 죽고 아들이 없으면 그의 기업을 그의 딸에게 돌릴 것이요 9 딸도 없으면 그의 기업을 그의 형제에게 줄 것이요 10 형제도 없으면 그의 기업을 그의 아버지의 형제에게 줄 것이요 “Say to the Israelites, ‘If a man dies and leaves no son, give his inheritance to his daughter. (29 SEPTEMBER 2022) 나를 위해 기도하는 믿음의 친구가 있다면 큰 힘이 되겠지요. 그리고 힘들 때 마다 내 손을 꼭 붙잡고 축복하는 친구가 있다면 얼마나 큰 위로가 될까요. 목요찬양 집회가 그런 힘과 위로가 있는 예배가 되기를 소망합니다. 그래서 앞으로는 매달 1~2회 ‘Small Group Talk and Prayer' 시간을 가져봐요.  2 Timothy 1:6~12의 말씀도 우리가 믿는 예수 그리스도안에서 서로 기도하며 복음을 증거하는 소명에 대해서 증거하고 있습니다. 사도 바울이 디모데 사역자를 안수한 것처럼 우리도 서로 손을 붙잡고 축복하고 격려하고 위로하는 기도를 해야 합니다. 그리고 복음을 전하는 일이 어렵고 불가능할 때마다 모여서 위로하고 칭찬하며 용기를 전하며, 함께 복음을 전하는 하나님의 전도자가 되어야 합니다.  매주 목요일 저녁에 모여서 함께 예배드리는 모든 예배자들에게 이와 같은 충분한 믿음과 능력과 담대함이 있습니다 because we know whom we have believed. 따라서 이번 주 목요찬양집회를 통해서 우리의 믿음과 소명을 다시 확인하며 감사드리는 시간을 가져요. 목요일에 저녁 7:30 에 만나요.  CRW CRW Message on Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCNNhxJj28wsyji3TT0ULHCg —————BECAUSE I KNOW WHO I HAVE BELIEVED, (2 TIMOTHY 1:6~12) 6 그러므로 내가 나의 안수함으로 네 속에 있는 하나님의 은사를 다시 불일듯 하게 하기 위하여 너로 생각하게 하노니 For this reason I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God, which is in you through the laying on of my hands.  7 하나님이 우리에게 주신 것은 두려워하는 마음이 아니요 오직 능력과 사랑과 절제하는 마음이니 For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and self-discipline.  8 그러므로 너는 내가 우리 주를 증언함과 또는 주를 위하여 갇힌 자 된 나를 부끄러워하지 말고 오직 하나님의 능력을 따라 복음과 함께 고난을 받으라 So do not be ashamed of the testimony about our Lord or of me his prisoner. Rather, join with me in suffering for the gospel, by the power of God.  9 하나님이 우리를 구원하사 거룩하신 소명으로 부르심은 우리의 행위대로 하심이 아니요 오직 자기의 뜻과 영원 전부터 그리스도 예수 안에서 우리에게 주신 은혜대로 하심이라 He has saved us and called us to a holy life - not because of anything we have done but because of his own purpose and grace. 10 이제는 우리 구주 그리스도 예수의 나타나심으로 말미암아 나타났으니 그는 사망을 폐하시고 복음으로써 생명과 썩지 아니할 것을 드러내신지라 This grace was given us in Christ Jesus before the beginning of time, but it has now been revealed through the appearing of our Saviour, Christ Jesus, who has destroyed death and has brought life and immortality to light through the gospel. 11 내가 이 복음을 위하여 선포자와 사도와 교사로 세우심을 입었노라 And of this gospel I was appointed a herald and an apostle and a teacher. 12 이로 말미암아 내가 또 이 고난을 받되 부끄러워하지 아니함은 내가 믿는 자를 내가 알고 또한 내가 의탁한 것을 그 날까지 그가 능히 지키실 줄을 확신함이라 That is why I am suffering as I am. Yet this is no cause for shame, because I know whom I have believed, and am convinced that he is able to guard what I have entrusted to him until that day.

(22 September 2022) 요즘 읽고 있는 책이 ‘The Fabric of the Cosmos (Brian Greene)' 인데, 그 내용을 간단하게 정리하면 다음과 같습니다. ‘The price of the future is anxiety and worrisome, but there is a super-power that controls everything perfectly!'‘인간이 미래를 구입하는 가격은 불안함이다. 그러나 이런 불안한 미래까지도 모든 것을 완벽하게 조정하는 엄청난 힘이 존재한다.'  예수 그리스도를 믿는 사람들도 미래에 대한 불안감이 항상 있습니다. 그래서 세상 사람들과 마찬가지로 가장 최선의 것을 선택하려고 하고, 가장 안전한 방법을 택해서 미래를 준비합니다. However, regardless of our well-preparedness for the future, we always find a series of defects in our preparation; henceforth, we predict and prepare harder and more to get rid of anxiety and worrisome for the future. And again, we find ourselves unstable, unsatisfied and unknown.  이번 주 목요찬양집회 말씀인 누가복음 16장에 나오는 ‘관리자 the manager'도 자신의 미래를 준비하기 위해서 최선을 다했습니다. 그러나, 관리자는 자신이 관리한 모든 재산은 주인에게 속한다는 것을 깨닫고, 그때 부터 ‘소유 possession'하려 하지 않고 ‘나눔 distribution'으로 미래를 준비하기 시작합니다. 그리고 주인은 나누고 베풀려는 관리자를 칭찬합니다. 그래서 누가복음 16장의 말씀은 관리자의 미래에 대한 불안감이 주인에 의해서 확신으로 변한다는 내용입니다.  따라서 성경은 ‘미래를 준비하는 방법'은 주님께서 나에게 주어진 것을 ‘나누는 것'이라고 가르치고 있습니다. 주님을 나만의 것으로 소유하려고 하면, 주님은 나에게만 복을 주시고 능력을 주셔야하는 분이 되어서, 그 잘못된 관계 속에서는 아무런 복음의 영향력을 찾을 수 없습니다. 그러나, 나의 믿음과 나눔을 통해서 놀랍고 위대한 주님이 다른 이들에게 전해진다면 우리 모두가 주님을 함께 경험하게 됩니다. Therefore, the price of the future amongst Christians is ‘our faithful togetherness with the Lord and each other.' And that's how the Lord turns our anxiety for the unknown future into our solid faith in Jesus alone. Give an account of your management, because you cannot be manager any longer.' 3 청지기가 속으로 이르되 주인이 내 직분을 빼앗으니 내가 무엇을 할까 땅을 파자니 힘이 없고 빌어 먹자니 부끄럽구나 “The manager said to himself, ‘What shall I do now? My master is taking away my job. I'm not strong enough to dig, and I'm ashamed to beg  4 내가 할 일을 알았도다 이렇게 하면 직분을 빼앗긴 후에 사람들이 나를 자기 집으로 영접하리라 하고 I know what I'll do so that, when I lose my job here, people will welcome me into their houses.' 5 주인에게 빚진 자를 일일이 불러다가 먼저 온 자에게 이르되 네가 내 주인에게 얼마나 빚졌느냐 6 말하되 기름 백 말이니이다 이르되 여기 네 증서를 가지고 빨리 앉아 오십이라 쓰라 하고 “So he called in each one of his master's debtors. He asked the first, ‘How much do you owe my master?'“‘Nine hundred gallons of olive oil,' he replied.“The manager told him, ‘Take your bill, sit down quickly, and make it four hundred and fifty.' 7 또 다른 이에게 이르되 너는 얼마나 빚졌느냐 이르되 밀 백 석이니이다 이르되 여기 네 증서를 가지고 팔십이라 쓰라 하였는지라 “Then he asked the second, ‘And how much do you owe?' “‘A thousand bushels of wheat,' he replied. “He told him, ‘Take your bill and make it eight hundred.' 8 주인이 이 옳지 않은 청지기가 일을 지혜 있게 하였으므로 칭찬하였으니 이 세대의 아들들이 자기 시대에 있어서는 빛의 아들들보다 더 지혜로움이니라 “The master commended the dishonest manager because he had acted shrewdly. For the people of this world are more shrewd in dealing with their own kind than are the people of the light. 9 내가 너희에게 말하노니 불의의 재물로 친구를 사귀라 그리하면 그 재물이 없어질 때에 그들이 너희를 영주할 처소로 영접하리라  I tell you, use worldly wealth to gain friends for yourselves, so that when it is gone, you will be welcomed into eternal dwellings. 10 지극히 작은 것에 충성된 자는 큰 것에도 충성되고 지극히 작은 것에 불의한 자는 큰 것에도 불의하니라 “Whoever can be trusted with very little can also be trusted with much, and whoever is dishonest with very little will also be dishonest with much.

(15 September 2022) 성경은 왜 우리에게 ‘죄인'이라고 할까요? 그리스도를 믿음으로 구원받고, 성령과 동행하며 착하고 정직하게 신앙 생활하는 우리에게 ‘죄인 sinner' 이라는 표현보다는 ‘의인 righteous one' 이라는 말이 더 정확한 말인데, 왜 성경은 우리에게 ‘죄인'이라고 말할까요? Oxford dictionary 에 따르면 ‘A sinner is a person who transgresses against divine law by committing an immoral act; an evil doer'라고 죄인에 대해서 설명하고 있습니다. 이 기준에 따르면 신앙 생활을 잘 하는 그리스도인들은 ‘죄인'이 아니라 ‘의인'입니다. 그러나, 누가복음 15장 말씀에 의하면 ‘회개하는 모든 사람들'이 ‘죄인'입니다.  이번주 목요찬양집회를 통해서 우리가 만족시키는 죄인의 조건과, 죄인을 용서하시는 하나님의 구원에 대한 말씀을 나눕니다.  미래를 구입하는 가격은 불안함이다 목요일에 저녁 7:30 에 만나요.  CRW ——우리는 죄인입니다 - 누가복음 15:4~7 (WHY ARE WE SINNERS? - LUKE 15:4~7) 4 너희 중에 어떤 사람이 양 백 마리가 있는데 그 중의 하나를 잃으면 아흔아홉 마리를 들에 두고 그 잃은 것을 찾아내기까지 찾아다니지 아니하겠느냐 Suppose one of you has a hundred sheep and loses one of them. Doesn't he leave the ninety-nine in the open country and go after the lost sheep until he finds it?  5 또 찾아낸즉 즐거워 어깨에 메고 6 집에 와서 그 벗과 이웃을 불러 모으고 말하되 나와 함께 즐기자 나의 잃은 양을 찾아내었노라 하리라 And when he finds it, he joyfully puts it on his shoulders and goes home.Then he calls his friends and neighbours together and says, ‘Rejoice with me; I have found my lost sheep.'  7 내가 너희에게 이르노니 이와 같이 죄인 한 사람이 회개하면 하늘에서는 회개할 것 없는 의인 아흔아홉으로 말미암아 기뻐하는 것보다 더하리라I tell you that in the same way there will be more rejoicing in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who do not need to repent.

(25 August 2022) 이번 주 목요찬양집회 말씀은 ‘그리스도의 섬김 PAY IT FORWARD (누가복음 14:12~14; 히브리서 13:1~3)' 입니다. 그리스도인으로 섬기는 섬김에는 어떤 상급이 있을 까요? What may our hospitality to others bring back to us? 특별히 성경에서 말하는 ‘섬김 hospitality to others'에는 어떤 ‘유익함 rewards ‘이 우리에게 돌아올까요? 세상에서 선한 일을 하고 이웃을 잘 돌보면 상도 받고 주변 사람들로부터 칭찬도 듣습니다. 과연 성경이 말하는 섬김에서도 세상에서 받는 상과 칭찬처럼 하나님의 상과 칭찬을 받을 까요? 이번주 목요찬양집회를 통해서 ‘성경적인 섬김 biblical hospitality'에 대해서 말씀을 나누겠습니다.  목요일에 저녁 7:30 에 만나요.  CRW ——그리스도의 섬김 PAY IT FORWARD (누가복음 14:12~14; 히브리서 13:1~3) 12 그리고 나서 자기를 청한 자에게 이르시되 네가 점심이나 저녁이나 베풀거든 벗이나 형제나 친척이나 부한 이웃을 청하지 말라 두렵건대 그 사람들이 너를 도로 청하여 네게 갚음이 될까 하노라 12. Then Jesus said to his host, “When you give a luncheon or dinner, do not invite your friends, your brothers or sisters, your relatives, or your rich neighbours; if you do, they may invite you back and so you will be repaid.  13 잔치를 베풀거든 차라리 가난한 자들과 몸 불편한 자들과 저는 자들과 맹인들을 청하라 13. But when you give a banquet, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, the blind,  14 그리하면 그들이 갚을 것이 없으므로 네게 복이 되리니 이는 의인들의 부활시에 네가 갚음을 받겠음이라 하시더라14. and you will be blessed. Although they cannot repay you, you will be repaid at the resurrection of the righteous.” 1 형제 사랑하기를 계속하고 1. Keep on loving one another as brothers and sisters.  2 손님 대접하기를 잊지 말라 이로써 부지중에 천사들을 대접한 이들이 있었느니라 2. Do not forget to show hospitality to strangers, for by so doing some people have shown hospitality to angels without knowing it.  3 너희도 함께 갇힌 것 같이 갇힌 자를 생각하고 너희도 몸을 가졌은즉 학대 받는 자를 생각하라 3. Continue to remember those in prison as if you were together with them in prison, and those who are mistreated as if you yourselves were suffering.

—— —— ——(18 August 2022) 이번 주 목요찬양집회 말씀은 ‘하나님의 명령 THE CALL IN LIFE AND FAITH (예레미야 1:4~10 Jeremiah 1:4~10)'입니다.  2022년 브리즈번 한인교회 연합집회를 준비하면서 한가지 발견한 사실이 있습니다. ‘The New Generation has arrived!'   그래서 이번 집회를 시작으로 우리의 믿음과 찬양, 그리고 기도와 섬김을 브리즈번 모든 교회와 모든 사람들에게 전해서, 다같이 모여서 예배하고 찬양하는 예배를 항상 함께 드려요. 목요일에 저녁 7시에 만나요. CRW ——GOD'S DIVINE CALL IN OUR LIFE AND FAITH (예레미야 1:4~10 Jeremiah 1:4~10) 4 여호와의 말씀이 내게 임하니라 이르시되 The word of the LORD came to me, saying, 5 내가 너를 모태에 짓기 전에 너를 알았고 네가 배에서 나오기 전에 너를 성별하였고 너를 여러 나라의 선지자로 세웠노라 하시기로 “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations.” 6 내가 이르되 슬프도소이다 주 여호와여 보소서 나는 아이라 말할 줄을 알지 못하나이다 하니 “Alas, Sovereign LORD,” I said, “I do not know how to speak; I am too young.” 7 여호와께서 내게 이르시되 너는 아이라 말하지 말고 내가 너를 누구에게 보내든지 너는 가며 내가 네게 무엇을 명령하든지 너는 말할지니라 But the LORD said to me, “Do not say, ‘I am too young.' You must go to everyone I send you to and say whatever I command you.  8 너는 그들 때문에 두려워하지 말라 내가 너와 함께 하여 너를 구원하리라 나 여호와의 말이니라 하시고 Do not be afraid of them, for I am with you and will rescue you,” declares the LORD. 9 여호와께서 그의 손을 내밀어 내 입에 대시며 여호와께서 내게 이르시되 보라 내가 내 말을 네 입에 두었노라 Then the LORD reached out his hand and touched my mouth and said to me, “I have put my words in your mouth.  10 보라 내가 오늘 너를 여러 나라와 여러 왕국 위에 세워 네가 그것들을 뽑고 파괴하며 파멸하고 넘어뜨리며 건설하고 심게 하였느니라 하시니라 See, today I appoint you over nations and kingdoms to uproot and tear down, to destroy and overthrow, to build and to plant.”

(11 August 2022) 이번 주 목요찬양집회 말씀은 ‘Kingdom vs Empire (이사야 5:1~7  Isaiah 5:1~7)' 입니다. 그리스도인들은 하나님의 나라 - the Kingdom of God- 를 늘 바라면서도, 실제로는 살면서 일어나는 일들을 세상적인 방법을 통해서 해결하고자 합니다. 마태복음 6:31과 33에 선포된 ‘그러므로 염려하여 이르기를 무엇을 먹을까 무엇을 마실까 무엇을 입을까 하지 말라. 그런즉 너희는 먼저 그의 나라와 그의 의를 구하라 그리하면 이 모든 것을 너희에게 더하시리라' 약속의 말씀과 같이 '세상 empire'에 살면서도 그리스도인들은 ‘천국 Kingdom' 의 삶을 살아야 하는데, 그렇지 못하는 경우가 너무나도 많습니다. 따라서 이번 목요찬양집회를 통해서 ‘No more slavery under the empire, but freedom over the Kingdom' 라는 주제로 말씀을 나누겠습니다.  목요일에 저녁 7시에 만나요. CRW ——Kingdom vs Empire (이사야 5:1~7  Isaiah 5:1~7) 1 나는 내가 사랑하는 자를 위하여 노래하되 내가 사랑하는 자의 포도원을 노래하리라 내가 사랑하는 자에게 포도원이 있음이여 심히 기름진 산에로다 I will sing for the one I love a song about his vineyard: My loved one had a vineyard on a fertile hillside. 2 땅을 파서 돌을 제하고 극상품 포도나무를 심었도다 그 중에 망대를 세웠고 또 그 안에 술틀을 팠도다 좋은 포도 맺기를 바랐더니 들포도를 맺었도다 He dug it up and cleared it of stones and planted it with the choicest vines. He built a watchtower in it and cut out a winepress as well. Then he looked for a crop of good grapes,but it yielded only bad fruit. 3 예루살렘 주민과 유다 사람들아 구하노니 이제 나와 내 포도원 사이에서 사리를 판단하라 Now you dwellers in Jerusalem and people of Judah, judge between me and my vineyard. 4 내가 내 포도원을 위하여 행한 것 외에 무엇을 더할 것이 있으랴 내가 좋은 포도 맺기를 기다렸거늘 들포도를 맺음은 어찌 됨인고 What more could have been done for my vineyard than I have done for it? When I looked for good grapes, why did it yield only bad? 5 이제 내가 내 포도원에 어떻게 행할지를 너희에게 이르리라 내가 그 울타리를 걷어 먹힘을 당하게 하며 그 담을 헐어 짓밟히게 할 것이요 Now I will tell you what I am going to do to my vineyard: I will take away its hedge, and it will be destroyed; I will break down its wall, and it will be trampled. 6 내가 그것을 황폐하게 하리니 다시는 가지를 자름이나 북을 돋우지 못하여 찔레와 가시가 날 것이며 내가 또 구름에게 명하여 그 위에 비를 내리지 못하게 하리라 하셨으니 I will make it a wasteland, neither pruned nor cultivated, and briers and thorns will grow there. I will command the clouds not to rain on it. 7 무릇 만군의 여호와의 포도원은 이스라엘 족속이요 그가 기뻐하시는 나무는 유다 사람이라 그들에게 정의를 바라셨더니 도리어 포학이요 그들에게 공의를 바라셨더니 도리어 부르짖음이었도다 The vineyard of the LORD Almighty is the nation of Israel, and the people of Judah are the vines he delighted in. And he looked for justice, but saw bloodshed; for righteousness, but heard cries of distress.

(28 JULY 2022) 이번 주 목요찬양집회에서는 ‘말씀을 듣고 가꾸는 예배자 (야고보서 1장 19~27절)' 라는 제목을 말씀을 전합니다. 7월 한달동안 출애굽기 말씀을 묵상하면서 내린 결론은 ‘하나님은 변함없이 은혜와 자비를 베푸시는 분이시지만, 그 은혜와 자비를 값없이 받는 사람들은 항상 불평과 불만족에 빠져서 하나님과 온전한 친교와 만남을 이루지 못한다'입니다. 마태복음 25장 ‘달란트 비유'에 등장하는 3번째 종처럼 하나님께로 부터 받은 것이 많은 사람들이 아무것도 하지 않아서 결국 받은 은혜마쳐 사라져 버리는 안타까운 일들이 자주 생깁니다. 마치 좋은 화분을 받았는데, 가꾸지 않아서 꽃과 나무가 시들어 죽어버리듯이, 하나님께서부터 은혜와 사랑, 생명과 성령을 받았는데도 가꾸지 않고 돌보지 않아서 결국에서 자라지 못하는 사라지는 경험들을 하게 됩니다. 이번 주 목요 찬양집회를 통해서 예배로 모인 모두가 ‘말씀을 듣고 가꾸는 예배자'가 되는 특별한 집회가 되기를 기도하며 기대해 봅니다. 참고로, 저는 내일 월요일 (23일) 저녁에 시드니에서 북한 의료선교팀 모임에 참석합니다. 2018년 이후로 처음 갖는 모임입니다. 두가지 내용으로 모여서 기도하며 준비합니다. 1) 2023년부터 다시 시작할 간염과 결핵 환자 대상 북한 의료선교와 2) 2024년 부터 실행할 Diaspora Young Korean이 참여하는 ‘Journey to learn about North Korea' 의 실행 모임입니다. 아래 이름들은 Association of Sending Medicine to North Korea (ASMNK, Australia)와 Christian Friends of Korea (CFK, USA) 의료 선교사들과 실행 위원들 입니다. 중보기도 제목에 넣고 기도로 후원해 주세요. CRW ——말씀을 듣고 가꾸는 예배자 The faithful growers (야고보서 1:19~27 James 1:19~27) 19 내 사랑하는 형제 자매들아 너희가 알지니 사람마다 듣기는 속히 하고 말하기는 더디 하며 성내기도 더디하라 20 사람이 성내는 것이 하나님의 의를 이루지 못함이라 My dear brothers and sisters, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry, because human anger does not produce the righteousness that God desires. 21 그러므로 모든 더러운 것과 넘치는 악을 내버리고 너희 영혼을 능히 구원할 바 마음에 심어진 말씀을 온유함으로 받으라 Therefore, get rid of all moral filth and the evil that is so prevalent and humbly accept the word planted in you, which can save you. 22 너희는 말씀을 행하는 자가 되고 듣기만 하여 자신을 속이는 자가 되지 말라 Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says.  23 누구든지 말씀을 듣고 행하지 아니하면 그는 거울로 자기의 생긴 얼굴을 보는 사람과 같아서 24 제 자신을 보고 가서 그 모습이 어떠했는지를 곧 잊어버리거니와Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like someone who looks at his face in a mirror and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like. 25 자유롭게 하는 온전한 율법을 들여다보고 있는 자는 듣고 잊어버리는 자가 아니요 실천하는 자니 이 사람은 그 행하는 일에 복을 받으리라 But whoever looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues in it—not forgetting what they have heard, but doing it—they will be blessed in what they do. 26 누구든지 스스로 경건하다 생각하며 자기 혀를 재갈 물리지 아니하고 자기 마음을 속이면 이 사람의 경건은 헛것이라 Those who consider themselves religious and yet do not keep a tight rein on their tongues deceive themselves, and their religion is worthless. 27 하나님 아버지 앞에서 정결하고 더러움이 없는 경건은 곧 고아와 과부를 그 환난중에 돌보고 또 자기를 지켜 세속에 물들지 아니하는 그것이니라Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.

(21 JULY 2022) 최근에 운전하다가 들리는 ABC Saturday Extra 라디오에서 흘러 나온 내용입니다. Vogue라는 프랑스 패션 잡지에 Edna Woolman Chase 편집장이 되면서 이런 얘기를 했습니다. ‘Fashion can be bought. Style one must possess.' ‘옷은 돈 줄고 살 수 있지만, 스타일은 본인이 직접 만들어 가는 것입니다.' 이 한 문장이 이런 영감을 주더라구요. “은혜는 하나님께서 주시는 것이지만, 은혜가 충만한 삶은 우리가 만들어 가는 것이다.' 이번 주에는 출애굽기 3장에서 하나님의 부르심을 직접 들은 모세에 대해서 말씀을 나눕니다. 그리고 이렇게 결론을 내립니다.   ‘Divine Calling can be given. Christian life one must possess 부르심은 하나님께서 우리에게 주시는 것이지만, 부르심을 받은 삶은 우리가 만들어 가는 것이다 목요일 저녁 CRW 목요찬양집회에서 만나요. CRW ——주님의 부르심을 듣는 자리 FINDING MY BURNING BUSH ((출애굽기 3:1~4, 7~10 Exodus 3:1~4, 7~10)  1   모세가 그의 장인 미디안 제사장 이드로의 양 떼를 치더니 그 떼를 광야 서쪽으로 인도하여 하나님의 산 호렙에 이르매 Now Moses was tending the flock of Jethro his father-in-law, the priest of Midian, and he led the flock to the far side of the wilderness and came to Horeb, the mountain of God.  2   여호와의 사자가 떨기나무 가운데로부터 나오는 불꽃 안에서 그에게 나타나시니라 그가 보니 떨기나무에 불이 붙었으나 그 떨기나무가 사라지지 아니하는지라 3   이에 모세가 이르되 내가 돌이켜 가서 이 큰 광경을 보리라 떨기나무가 어찌하여 타지 아니하는고 하니 그 때에 There the angel of the LORD appeared to him in flames of fire from within a bush. Moses saw that though the bush was on fire it did not burn up. So Moses thought, “I will go over and see this strange sight - why the bush does not burn up.”  4   여호와께서 그가 보려고 돌이켜 오는 것을 보신지라 하나님이 떨기나무 가운데서 그를 불러 이르시되 모세야 모세야 하시매 그가 이르되 내가 여기 있나이다 When the LORD saw that he had gone over to look, God called to him from within the bush, “Moses! Moses!” 7   여호와께서 이르시되 내가 애굽에 있는 내 백성의 고통을 분명히 보고 그들이 그들의 감독자로 말미암아 부르짖음을 듣고 그 근심을 알고  The LORD said, “I have indeed seen the misery of my people in Egypt. I have heard them crying out because of their slave drivers, and I am concerned about their suffering.  8   내가 내려가서 그들을 애굽인의 손에서 건져내고 그들을 그 땅에서 인도하여 아름답고 광대한 땅, 젖과 꿀이 흐르는 땅에 데려가려 하노라 So I have come down to rescue them from the hand of the Egyptians and to bring them up out of that land into a good and spacious land, a land flowing with milk and honey.  9   이제 가라 이스라엘 자손의 부르짖음이 내게 달하고 애굽 사람이 그들을 괴롭히는 학대도 내가 보았으니 10   이제 내가 너를 바로에게 보내어 너에게 내 백성 이스라엘 자손을 애굽에서 인도하여 내게 하리라 And now the cry of the Israelites has reached me, and I have seen the way the Egyptians are oppressing them. So now, go. I am sending you to Pharaoh to bring my people the Israelites out of Egypt.”

(23 JUNE 2022) 이번 주에는 요한 1서 5장 1절~5절 말씀을 나눕니다. 제목은 5절의 말씀을 그대로 사용해서 ‘세상을 이기는 자가 누구냐? Who is it that overcomes the world?'입니다.  요한1서는 주로 ‘우리를 향한 하나님의 사랑'에 대해서만 알려져 있는데, 사실은 ‘그리스도인의 삶 Christian Life'에 대해서 훨씬 많은 가르침을 전하고 있습니다. 그리스도인의 삶에서 가장 중요한 것은 “우리가 무엇을 하면서 사느냐?” 가 아니라, “우리가 누구를 위해서 사느냐?” 입니다. Christian life is not about what we do in the world, but about whose glory we live for! 신앙 생활하면서 자신의 것을 먼저 추구할 수 있습니다. 신앙 생활하면서 하나님의 영광을 위해서 기도는 짧게 하지만, 자신의 소망이나 계획을 위해서 더 오래 기도할 수 있습니다. 왜냐면, 무엇을 먹고, 입고, 마시는 문제가 현실적인 문제이기 때문에, 배고플때 빵을 달라고 기도할 수 있고, 목마르고 추울 때 마실 물과 옷을 먼저 찾을 수 있습니다. 그리고 많은 그리스도인들이 그렇게 신앙 생활을 합니다.  그런데, 요한 1서 5장에서는 현실적인 어려움과 부족함은 기도의 내용이 될 수 없고, 신앙으로 극복해야 할 대상이라고 합니다. 그리고 신앙은 오직 하나님의 아들 예수 그리스도를 믿고 따르는 것이라고 재확인 하고 있습니다.  여러분은 어떠세요? 하나님의 것과 현실적으로 필요한 세상의 것이 있다면 어떤 것을 선택하시겠습니까? 예배드리는 자리를 선택하시겠어요, 아니면 세상의 필요한 것을 찾는 자리를 선택하시겠어요? 정답은 이미 알고 있는데, 생각과 믿음과 행동이 일치하지 않을 때가 많습니다. 이번 주 목요찬양집회에서 그리스도인의 현실적인 신앙 생활에  대한 답을 찾아 볼까요?  목요일 저녁 CRW 목요찬양집회에서 만나요. (요한 1서 5:1~5 / 1 John 5:1~5)  1 예수께서 그리스도이심을 믿는 자마다 하나님께로부터 난 자니 또한 낳으신 이를 사랑하는 자마다 그에게서 난 자를 사랑하느니라 Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ is born of God, and everyone who loves the father loves his child as well.  2 우리가 하나님을 사랑하고 그의 계명들을 지킬 때에 이로써 우리가 하나님의 자녀를 사랑하는 줄을 아느니라 This is how we know that we love the children of God: by loving God and carrying out his commands.  3 하나님을 사랑하는 것은 이것이니 우리가 그의 계명들을 지키는 것이라 그의 계명들은 무거운 것이 아니로다 In fact, this is love for God: to keep his commands. And his commands are not burdensome, 4 무릇 하나님께로부터 난 자마다 세상을 이기느니라 세상을 이기는 승리는 이것이니 우리의 믿음이니라  for everyone born of God overcomes the world. This is the victory that has overcome the world, even our faith.  5   예수께서 하나님의 아들이심을 믿는 자가 아니면 세상을 이기는 자가 누구냐 Who is it that overcomes the world? Only the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God.

(9 JUNE 2022) 이번 주에는 요한 1서 2장 14절 말씀을 나눕니다. 이번주에는 Le Musee de Louvre로 모시고 가서 Medieval French Painter Jean Restout의 그림 2점을 보여드릴까 합니다.  모든 신앙인들은 태초부터 계신 하나님 아버지를 알고 있습니다. 그리고 말씀이 육신이 되신 예수 그리스도를 통해서 죽음과 죄악을 이겨내고 하나님의 자녀로 살고 있습니다. 그렇다면, 모든 신앙인들에게 꼭 필요한 것이 무엇일까요? 그것은 어떤 상황과 현실속에서도 항상 하나님을 믿고 의지하고 따르는 것입니다.  성령강림사건 Pentecost가 이루어 졌을 때, 성령을 받은 사람들이 제일 먼저 무엇을 했는지 아십니까? 제일 먼저 하나님 앞에 무릎꿇고 하나님을 믿고 의지하며 기도했습니다.  그렇습니다. 하나님을 믿고 의지하고 따르는 사람들은, 그리고 하나님을 아는 신앙인들은 항상 하나님께 기도합니다. 그리고 기도의 응답을 기다리고 기대하며 믿음으로 참고 견디고 마침내 감사하는 신앙의 열매를 맛보게 됩니다. 이번 주 CRW 목요찬양집회를 통해서 성령을 받은 삶과 기도하는 삶에 대해서 확인해 봐요.  목요일 저녁 CRW 목요찬양집회에서 만나요. (21 April 2022) Christ is risen! Indeed, He is risen! 예수 그리스도께서 부활하셨습니다.  오늘 아침에 호주 친구 Jason이 전화가 와서 “Church's grand final game is over now. Let's get together for fun, mate!”  부활주일 예배 다 끝나서 앞으로는 시간 여유가 있으니 자기랑 같이 골프도 치고 등산도 가자는 말입니다. 교회를 다니지 않는 사람들은 부활절 예배가 끝나면 교회 다니는 사람들에게 시간과 여유가  많을 거라고 생각을 하나봅니다. CRW 예배자분들은 어떻게 생각하세요?  그런데, 성경말씀을 보면 예수님께서는 부활하시고 사람들을 만나시라 더 바쁘신것 같아요. 그리고  제자들을 다시 만나시면서 “수고를 많이 했으니 여유있게 하고 싶은 일하면서 쉬어라”라고 하지 않으시고, 베드로를 부르셔서 이렇게 말씀하십니다. “Feed my lamb, Take care of my sheep, Feed my sheep 나의 양떼를 먹이라.” 아마도, 부활은 개인적인 소식이 아니라 모든 사람들을 향한 기쁜 소식이니, 부활절 다음날부터 ‘부활과 진리이신 살아계신 예수 그리스도와 복음을 증거하는 데 더욱 더 바빠져야 하는 것이 예배자들의 사명입니다. 기쁜 소식인데, 어찌 그만 가만히 있을 수가 있나요!  예수 전도단의 찬양중 ‘멈출수 없네' 가사가 이렇게 시작합니다. “주 날 구원했으니 어찌 잠잠하리 기쁨의 찬송 드리리. 주 내 죄사했으니 어찌 잠잠하리 기쁨의 경배 드리리. 주를 향한 나의 사랑 멈출 수 없네 멈출 수 없네” CRW 예배도 부활의 기쁨과 영광으로 멈출수 없습니다. 이번 주 목요일(21일) 저녁에 만나요 CRW —— 주님의 세가지 질문 (요한복음 21:15~19) / THREE QUESTIONS (John 21:15~19) 15 그들이 조반 먹은 후에 예수께서 시몬 베드로에게 이르시되 요한의 아들 시몬아 네가 이사람들보다 나를 더 사랑하느냐 하시니 이르되 주님 그러하나이다 내가 주님을 사랑하는 줄 주님께서 아시나이다 이르시되 내 어린 양을 먹이라 하시고  When they had finished eating, Jesus said to Simon Peter, “Simon son of John, do you love me more than these?” “Yes, Lord,” he said, “you know that I love you.” Jesus said, “Feed my lambs.” 16 또 두 번째 이르시되 요한의 아들 시몬아 네가 나를 사랑하느냐 하시니 이르되 주님 그러하나이다 내가 주님을 사랑하는 줄 주님께서 아시나이다 이르시되 내 양을 치라 하시고  Again Jesus said, “Simon son of John, do you love me?” He answered, “Yes, Lord, you know that I love you.”Jesus said, “Take care of my sheep.” 17 세 번째 이르시되 요한의 아들 시몬아 네가 나를 사랑하느냐 하시니 주께서 세 번째 네가 나를 사랑하느냐 하시므로 베드로가 근심하여 이르되 주님 모든 것을 아시오매 내가 주님을 사랑하는 줄을 주님께서 아시나이다 예수께서 이르시되 내 양을 먹이라 Again Jesus said, “Simon son of John, do you love me?” He answered, “Yes, Lord, you know that I love you.” Jesus said, “Take care of my sheep.” The third time he said to him, “Simon son of John, do you love me?” Peter was hurt because Jesus asked him the third time, “Do you love me?” He said, “Lord, you know all things; you know that I love you.” Jesus said, “Feed my sheep.  18 내가 진실로 진실로 네게 이르노니 네가 젊어서는 스스로 띠 띠고 원하는 곳으로 다녔거니와 늙어서는 네 팔을 벌리리니 남이 네게 띠 띠우고 원하지 아니하는 곳으로 데려가리라  Very truly I tell you, when you were younger you dressed yourself and went where you wanted; but when you are old you will stretch out your hands, and someone else will dress you and lead you where you do not want to go.” 19 이 말씀을 하심은 베드로가 어떠한 죽음으로 하나님께 영광을 돌릴 것을 가리키심이러라 이 말씀을 하시고 베드로에게 이르시되 나를 따르라 하시니라.  Jesus said this to indicate the kind of death by which Peter would glorify God. Then he said to him, “Follow me!”

(26 May 2022) 2022년 한해가 벌써 1/2이 지나가고 있습니다. 올해의 기도제목들이 잘 열매 맺고 있나요?  최근 빌립보서 말씀을 묵상하면, 특히 4:13의 말씀 ‘내게 능력 주시는 자 안에서 내가 모든 것을 할 수 있느니라 - I can do all this through him who gives me strength - πάντα ἰσχύω ἐν τῷ ἐνδυναμοῦντί με'을 묵상하면서, ‘할 수 있다 - Can do' 로 번역된 원어 단어인 ‘ἰσχύω'의 다른 번역이 ‘참을 만한 힘이 있다, 이겨낼 만큼 강하다 able to endure, be strong'인 것을 찾을 수가 있었어요.  그래서 다시 번역을 해 보면 “나는 나에게 힘을 주시는 자로 인해서 어떤 일도 견딜만큼 강함 힘이 있다. I can be strong in all situations in who strengthens me.”가 됩니다. 그동안 빌립보서 4:13은 주님께서 나에게 힘을 주시기 때문에 ‘내가 모든 것을 할 수 있다' 로 번역이 되었지만, 원어 성경을 보니, 내가 무엇을 ‘행하는 것'이 믿음의 초점이 아니라, 하나님이 모든 것을 행하실 때, 비록 그때가 더딜지라도 나는 신앙의 강한 능력이 있기 때문에 모든 시험과 배고픔과 유혹을 이겨내서 하나님께서 행하시는 모든 일을 볼 수 있다는 뜻입니다. Faith is not about having power and strength of God in my life, that I may do/achieve something great, but about becoming strong enough by trusting and believing in God, that I may overcome everything until I see the fruitful outcome of God. If we could do everything, then, why God would be needed for us! 에스더의 가족인 모르드개는 자신의 힘과 능력과 지혜로 인생을 개척한 사람입니다. 그러나, 자신의 결정적인 실수로 이스라엘 민족 전체를 위험에 처하게 합니다. 모르드개는 결코 이 문제를 해결할 수 없습니다. 그래서 왕후가 된 에스더에게 도움을 요청합니다. 모르드개가 자신의 능력을 의지한 사람이라면, 에스더는 하나님의 지혜와 인도하심을 의지한 사람입니다.  다시 빌립보서 4:13 말씀으로 돌아가면, 모르드개는 하나님의 능력을 믿고 자신이 모든 것을 행동으로 옮긴 자라면, 에스더는 하나님의 능력을 믿고 모든 것을 이겨내고 기다리며 하나님께서 행하시는 일의 증인이 되었습니다. 여러분은 어떤 신앙인이세요? CRW —— 에스더서 3:5~6, 8~9 (Esther 3:5~6, 8~11) 5   하만이 모르드개가 무릎을 꿇지도 아니하고 절하지도 아니함을 보고 매우 노하더니  When Haman saw that Mordecai would not kneel down or pay him honour, he was enraged.  6   그들이 모르드개의 민족을 하만에게 알리므로 하만이 모르드개만 죽이는 것이 부족하다고 생각하고 아하수에로의 온 나라에 있는 유다인 곧 모르드개의 민족을 다 멸하고자 하더라  Yet having learned who Mordecai's people were, he scorned the idea of killing only Mordecai. Instead Haman looked for a way to destroy all Mordecai's people, the Jews, throughout the whole kingdom of Xerxes. 8   하만이 아하수에로 왕에게 아뢰되 한 민족이 왕의 나라 각 지방 백성 중에 흩어져 거하는데 그 법률이 만민의 것과 달라서 왕의 법률을 지키지 아니하오니 용납하는 것이 왕에게 무익하니이다  Then Haman said to King Xerxes, “There is a certain people dispersed among the peoples in all the provinces of your kingdom who keep themselves separate. Their customs are different from those of all other people, and they do not obey the king's laws; it is not in the king's best interest to tolerate them.  9   왕이 옳게 여기시거든 조서를 내려 그들을 진멸하소서 내가 은 일만 달란트를 왕의 일을 맡은 자의 손에 맡겨 왕의 금고에 드리리이다 하니 If it pleases the king, let a decree be issued to destroy them, and I will give ten thousand talents of silver to the king's administrators for the royal treasury.” 10   왕이 반지를 손에서 빼어 유다인의 대적 곧 아각 사람 함므다다의 아들 하만에게 주며  So the king took his signet ring from his finger and gave it to Haman son of Hammedatha, the Agagite, the enemy of the Jews.  11   이르되 그 은을 네게 주고 그 백성도 그리하노니 너의 소견에 좋을 대로 행하라 하더라  “Keep the money,” the king said to Haman, “and do with the people as you please.”

(2 JUNE 2022) 이번 주에는 요한 1서에 나오는 ‘빛과 어두움'에 대한 말씀을 나눕니다.  요한1서에 근거하면, ‘빛은 곧 하나님이며, 하나님과 사귐'이라고 증거하며, ‘어두움은 거짓말, 진리를 행하지 아니함'으로 정의하고 있습니다. 그리고 그 빛을 가까이 하는 사람들에게는 ‘서로간의 사귐 fellowship with one another'이 있으며, 그 사람들에게는 예수님의 피로 죄사함을 받는 다고 증거하고 있습니다. 쉽게 정리하면, 빛이신 하나님 안에 머무는 사람들은 거짓과 죄가 없는 삶을 살게 됩니다.  그러나, 빛이신 하나님 안에 거하며 신앙 생활하면서도 ‘거짓과 죄가 없는 삶'을 살기는 불가능해 보입니다. 왜냐하면, 하나님의 뜻을 알면서도 실천에 옮기지 않는 것 또한 죄이기 때문입니다. 사실 하나님의 뜻과 계획을 아는 것 보다 더 큰 어려움이 되는 것은 하나님의 뜻과 계획에 맞추어 사는 것입니다. 예를 들어, 하루에 30분 이라도 매일 같이 하나님과 시간을 보내는 것이 당연한 일이지만, 매일같이 행하기는 결코 쉬운 일이 아닙니다. 경험상 판단할 때 다른 나라에 선교를 가거나, 집없는 사람들을 찾아가 위로하는 것 보다 매일 30분씩 말씀과 기도를 통해서 하나님을 만나는 시간을 꾸준히 하는 것이 더 어려워 보입니다.  이번 주 CRW 목요찬양집회에서는 ‘하나님의 뜻과 계획을 준행하는 신앙 생활 responsive faith and life to God's call' 에 대해 말씀을 나눕니다.  목요일 저녁 CRW 목요찬양집회에서 만나요. CRW ——요한 1서 1:5~7 (1 John 1:5~7) 5   우리가 그에게서 듣고 너희에게 전하는 소식은 이것이니 곧 하나님은 빛이시라 그에게는 어둠이 조금도 없으시다는 것이니라 This is the message we have heard from him and declare to you: God is light; in him there is no darkness at all.  6   만일 우리가 하나님과 사귐이 있다 하고 어둠에 행하면 거짓말을 하고 진리를 행하지 아니함이거니와 If we claim to have fellowship with him and yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live out the truth.  7   그가 빛 가운데 계신 것 같이 우리도 빛 가운데 행하면 우리가 서로 사귐이 있고 그 아들 예수의 피가 우리를 모든 죄에서 깨끗하게 하실 것입니다. But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin.

Summary of today’s message (5/3/2017) Jesus is the Messiah and the Son of God (Matthew 4:1~11) The main theme for this morning is, ‘Jesus is the Messiah and the Son of living God.’ This is what the Bible reveals to us that Jesus is the Messiah and the Son of living God, and whoever believes in him shall not perish, but have eternal life. Because Jesus is the messiah who came to save us, now we have eternal life in God whom we have our faith in. Because Jesus is the Son of God, our sins are forgiven, and now we are called the people of God in the kingdom of God. But nowadays, people do not want to hear that, nor believe that. Rather, they ask Christians, “What’s that got to do with my life? What Jesus really can do for me now? They only see God as just a miracle maker, or someone who can turn impossible things into possible ones for them. So they come into a relationship with him for a while, and walk away because nothing has been done according to their expectations. Actually the same thing happened in the Bible. Israel people waited for their Messiah who would come to rescue them, free them, and give eternity. But when their long-expected Jesus Christ came, people rejected him, just a few believed and accepted him as the Messiah and the Son of living God. Our God is the creator, redeemer and sustainer of our life and future. And He does make things happen for his glory and his people. In order for his people to believe, God had to make sure that Jesus was the one they waited for. So through Matthew, God revealed the truth that Jesus was the one he sent to save his people. Matthew 3:17, after Jesus was baptised by John the Baptist, God says, “a voice from heaven said, “This is my Son, whom I live; with him I am well pleased.’ And again, in Matthew 17, the transfiguration of Jesus, God says, ‘… a voice from the cloud said, “This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased. Listen to him!” Salvation does not mean we get what we want, Salvation does not mean we are free to do whatever we like to do. But Salvation means life in God, Salvation means God’s punishment is fully paid, and Salvation means forgiveness of our sins through life, death and resurrection of Jesus. So we have freedom to walk away from our ways and choose God’s way for his glory. It is all about our perspective of how to perceive our life in this world and our attitude to live as the people of God in this world. As long as we have faith in God and believe that Jesus is our Messiah and the Son of living God, we must rely on God’s perspective and build up our faithful attitude to live as God’s people in this world. Now let’s look at today’ reading. Jesus was led by the spirit into wilderness to be tested by the devil. He was led by the spirit of God, so there is a purpose of God, which is to prove Jesus is the Son of God. So when the devil asked him, “if you are the Son of God, turn this stone into bread.” The devil knew Jesus was hungry after 40 days and nights of fasting. And the way he replied was, “IT IS WRITTEN: Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of GOD.” He said it because he is the Son of God. Second temptation is the same, “If you are the Son of God, throw yourself down. Doesn’t God promise to protect you?” Again Jesus said, ““IT IS ALSO WRITTEN: ‘Do not put the Lord your GOD to the test.’” And the third temptation, Jesus said again, “FOR IT IS WRITTEN: ‘Worship the Lord your GOD, and serve him only.” The devil did not believe that Jesus was the Son of God. So Jesus re-cited the Bible three times to make his point, which is “I am the Messiah that the Bible proclaimed about. (Joshua 4:1~9) 1. All of us has more than one ‘very positive, great, encouraging and God performed’ memories in our life and faith journey. Obviously, for me the internship is one of them, which makes me keep going for the glory of God. 2. Of course, I’ve had very negative and discouraging experiences in my ministry. But these kinds of great memories or rather landmarks in faith have become driving forces for us to move on. As Romans 12:21 says, “Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.” 3. This is what I see as I read today’s reading Joshua 4; God led His people out of Egypt, throughout the wilderness God protected and provided. And now God is leading them into the land he promised. This is not what Moses did or could do, this is not what Joshua did or could do, but Only God did and could do for His people. 4. So in today’s reading verse 7, God said, “tell your children that the flow of the Jordan was cut off before ‘THE ARK of the covenant of the LORD,’.” 5. This is important. The river was cut off NOT when the priest waded in the water, but when ‘The ARK’ arrived, the river was cut off. 6. This is what we must not fail to tell the next generations. “If God is for you, who can ever be against you! (Rom 8:31)” Jehovah Jireh (God provides), Jehovah Nissi (God wins), Jehovah Lafa (God heals) 7. Two weeks ago, I received a very unpleasant, or rather sad call. He said, “I heard you’d been doing prayer meetings in one of blue care centres. We cannot have prayer meeting in public where people can see and hear. You may have it in chapel on the second floor, otherwise, those residents will keep complaining about your prayer group.” 8. I did not react, but I offered him, “Morningside UC and I are praying for your ministry and people.” 12. Blue Care, Uniting Care, Uniting Church. We all are the body of Christ, worshipping, witnessing, and serving God and his people, aren’t we all? 13. But somehow and somewhere, we got confused with whom we are serving. 14. Do you know the first question of the shorter catechism? “What is the chief end of man? “Man’s chief end is to glorify God, and to enjoy him forever.” 15. Indeed, we are here to glorify God, to please God, and to enjoy the everlasting fellowship with Him through Jesus Christ. 16. Galatians 1:10 Am I now trying to win the approval of human beings, or of God? Or am I trying to please people? If I were still trying to please people, I would not be a servant of Christ. 17. 1 Thessalonians 2:4b We are not trying to please people but God, who tests our hearts. 18. However, somehow, somewhere, we started creating ‘confusions.’ What is ‘essential, a must’ has become secondary, and what was the secondary has become the top priority. 19. From time to time, I listen to a southern Baptist preacher, Effreim Smith from Chicago. In one of his messages, he said this, kind of eye opening and ear clearing, “The world teaches you how to prioritise your life including your faith by setting up what is the first priority, what is the next, and what is the next. But in this relationship with God, there is no first priority, no second priority because God is our only priority. Amen! He is the alpha and Omega, he is the beginning and the End, he is everlasting, He is who he is. 20. Let’s go back to today’s reading, these 12 stones remind people of the ark of God that made the river cut off. So verse 7 continues to say, “These stones are to be a memorial to the people of Israel forever.” But people failed to remember not only the meaning of the 12 stones, but the power and strength of our faith in God. Along the way, we got lost, and not even realise it. 21. In Matthew 17, when Jesus was transfigured before Peter, James, and John, they saw how glorious Jesus became and heard the voice saying, ”This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased. Listen to him!” 22. They were the ones who were with Jesus Christ, but still failed to listen and follow him until. Until his body was broken, his blood was shed, and shared with us in remembrance of him. 23. The essence and the core in our faith is God. He is the way, the truth and the life. So in order for us to continue to be a multi-generational church for the glory of God, we must pass the way, the truth and the life onto our next generations in remembrance of him. 24. As I conclude today’s message, I would like to sing a hymn together. This is my grandmother’s favourite, and soon became my favourite. Every time I sing this hymn, I remember Jesus Christ as the way, the truth and the life. And I pray my children remember Jesus in the same way. AMEN.

Summary of today’s message (19/2/2017) Luke 5:1~11, Matthew 28:19~20, Acts 1:8 Morningside Uniting Church is 1)biblical, 2)evangelical, 3)missional, and 4)multi-generational. Today let us identify ourselves as missional. An American preacher Bill Hybels keeps saying, “Local church is the hope of the world.” I know why he says it because “We are the God-sent people in this world.” Indeed, we are the people who have been sent by God into the world as witnesses and ambassadors of the Good News, and as custodians of God’s creation, so we must be aware that we have ownership over everything we do for the glory of God because we belong to the body of Christ. Peter, James, John, and other fishermen had many years of knowledge and experience. They knew how to catch fish. But on this particular day, they did not catch any fish at all, but they met Jesus for the first time. Jesus was teaching people from Peter’s boat, so obviously Peter heard what Jesus told people about: God, heaven, salvation, healing, and more teachings. After listening to his teaching, when Jesus directed Peter and others fishermen on the same boat to throw the nets into deep water, Peter said “We worked all night long and caught nothing, But because you says so, we will throw our nets into deep water again.” And the fruits of their obedience to Jesus was overflowing and abundant. So as a missional church let’s say, “But because you say so” we will go for your glory and to your people. A friend of mine always emphasises on two commitments all Christians must make, 1)Intimacy with Christ, and 2) Total submission to Christ! Intimacy with Christ means we read the Bible because we truly and faithfully believe and accept it as the living word of God for us. According to Luke, Peter listened to Jesus teachings on the same boat, after that he called Jesus, ‘Master.’ My point is this the more and the longer time we spend with Jesus, which means reading the Bible and praying to God, The more and the longer we do that, the closer intimacy we have with Jesus as well. Look at Peter, he called this stranger ‘Master.’ This means he truly believed what Jesus taught on the day. So he said, “But because you say so.” Total submission to Christ!
