As a landscape photographer, I’m drawn to photos I find online. Recently I came across “10 of the Most Breathtaking Places in the U.S.” A photo of a geothermal spring depicts a massive basin of multi-colored luminescence. A snapshot of the Hoh Rain Forest shows a dense mossy forest that looks like something straight out of “The Hobbit.” A stunning picture taken in Monument Valley, Arizona, could be a panorama of Mars. These awesome images make me think of our awesome God. In Psalm 68, David gushes about God’s majesty: “Sing to God . . . extol him who rides on the clouds” (v. 4). Vividly, the psalmist proclaims God’s power over enemies: “May you blow them away like smoke” (v. 2). Yet God’s sheer majesty and power are contrasted with His intimate love: “Praise be to the Lord . . . who daily bears our burdens” (v. 19). David’s epic psalm reaches a climax with his breathless praise: “You, God, are awesome” (v. 35). In landscape photographs, I find both immensity and intimacy. The sheer expanse of these vistas speaks personally to my soul. It makes me wonder if the landscapes of our world are really glimpses of God Himself— reflections of how He’s both awesomely immense and breathtakingly loving. In that light, maybe today we might look for His reflected beauty around us. Maybe today we might whisper to Him, “You, God, are awesome.”

Our Awesome God -- Part 3: Trinity; Jesus, the Christ MESSAGE SUMMARY: We pray and sing to the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit – the Trinity: one God and yet three persons in the one God. All analogies fall shot in explaining an incomprehensible God and the Trinity. The Trinity is a mystery, and the word Trinity is not found in the Bible – the Bible has inferences to the Word Trinity and each of its component persons without naming the overarching word “Trinity”. However, the authority of speaking about the Trinity comes from the Bible. During the first few centuries of the Church, Christians wrestled with how to describe and communicate God in writings and teachings. These early Christians, in their study of the Scriptures, saw that the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit were all Devine; however, they knew that God was one. Therefore, these early Christians concluded that the Scriptures taught that there was only one God; but that the Father is God, the Son is God, and that the Holy Spirit is God – what we now call the Trinity. Today, we will look at the second person of the Trinity – Jesus. Jesus is the rock upon which Christianity is built. Typically, we refer to “Jesus Christ”; however, “Christ “is not Jesus last name. “Christ” is a title that means Messiah. Jesus, the second person of the Trinity, is viewed from three perspectives: 1) the pre-incarnate Christ; the incarnate Christ (God man); and the post-incarnate Christ. In John 1:1-5, the Apostle John tells us that the pre-incarnate Christ was the Word (Logos) and in the beginning. Also, the pre-incarnate Christ was a person, but He was: with God, a deity (God), and a participant in the Creation. Also, the pre-incarnate Christ, in the Old Testament, is referred to as “The Angel of the Lord” (Exodus 3:1-18). Whenever The Angel of the Lord appears in the Old Testament, God ends up being referenced as the person speaking. In John 8:58, Jesus removes all doubt that He was God, The Angel of the Lord, speaking to Abraham in Exodus 3: “Jesus said to them, ‘Truly, truly, I say to you, before Abraham was, I am.'". In John 1:14, the Apostle John identifies the God-man Jesus, the incarnate Christ, as God: “And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.". Jesus was the person of God's Son and He was Devine. In the year 325, leaders from all over the Church met in Nicaea to debate and understand who Jesus was. These Church leaders came out of this meeting saying that Jesus was co-equal and co-eternal with God the Father. In the Incarnation, Jesus remained God; but, also, Jesus became fully a sinless human – Son of Man and Son of God. The incarnate Christ was crucified, and He was resurrected; and He is living today as the post-incarnate Christ. As the post-incarnate Christ, Jesus is the reigning and redeeming Christ. Also, we are told that the post-incarnate Christ will return. Therefore, Jesus is the visible expression of the invisible God. It is because of Jesus, the second person of the Trinity, that we are able to have access to the first person of the Trinity – God the Father. God the Father, Jesus the Son, and the Holy Spirit are inseparable because they are one God together in the Trinity. We are God's children; but God, our Father, has no grandchildren. Jesus tells us in John 14:6-7: “Jesus said to him, ‘I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. If you had known me, you would have known my Father also. From now on you do know him and have seen him.'". The understanding of the Godhead and the Trinity are a gift to us through our Salvation brought to us by Jesus.   TODAY'S PRAYER: Keeping the Sabbath, Lord, will require a lot of changes in the way I am living life. Teach me, Lord, how to take the next step with this in a way that fits my unique personality and situation. Our Awesome God -- Part 2: Trinity; Our Father MESSAGE SUMMARY: We worship an awesome, majestic, exalted God. We worship our God with extreme wonder. Our awesome God has revealed Himself as Trinity – three persons of the Godhead comprising one God – Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, all coequal. We worship Him in extreme reverence, fear, and wonder. All analogies fall shot in explaining an incomprehensible God and the Trinity. The Trinity is a mystery, and the word Trinity is not found in the Bible – the Bible has inferences to the Word Trinity and each of its component persons without naming the overarching word “Trinity”. Today, we are going to look at the Fatherhood of God – the first person of the Trinity. God is beyond gender, but He has revealed Himself as Father in the Bible. In the Old Testament, God is constantly referred to as Father. In the New Testament teachings of Jesus, we are presented with a new level intimacy with God the Father. As in Jesus' “Parable of the Prodigal Son” in Luke 15:11-32, the father gave his son his independence and freedom of will when requested by the son so that he could stray, but the father was always looking for the return of his son, just as God, as our Father, looks for our return to Him from our sinful lives. The father in Jesus' parable exhibited both “mercy” and “grace”, just as God our Father provides us “mercy” and “grace” through the Cross and the Resurrection. Jesus, through His parable, wants us to know that God loves us and God desires a relationship with us. Today, the implications of God our Father to us are: 1) we are adopted into God's family; 2) the Father makes us Spiritual persons – God gives the Holy Spirit; and 3) God the Father allows us to become “Spiritual Heirs” – including an inheritance of eternal life. It is because of Jesus that we can have access to this loving Father. We cannot rely on someone else for our relationship with God – we are God's children; but God, our Father, has no grandchildren. Jesus tells us in John 14:6-7: “Jesus said to him, ‘I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. If you had known me, you would have known my Father also. From now on you do know him and have seen him.'". It is because of Jesus, the second person of the Trinity, that we are able to have access to the first person of the Trinity – God the Father. God the Father, Jesus the Son, and the Holy Spirit are inseparable because they are one God together in the Trinity. We are God's children; but God, our Father, has no grandchildren. Jesus tells us in John 14:6-7: “Jesus said to him, ‘I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. If you had known me, you would have known my Father also. From now on you do know him and have seen him.'". Our Awesome God -- Part 2: Trinity; Our Father MESSAGE SUMMARY: We worship an awesome, majestic, exalted God. We worship our God with extreme wonder. Our awesome God has revealed Himself as Trinity – three persons of the Godhead comprising one God – Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, all coequal. We worship Him in extreme reverence, fear, and wonder. All analogies fall shot in explaining an incomprehensible God and the Trinity. The Trinity is a mystery, and the word Trinity is not found in the Bible – the Bible has inferences to the Word Trinity and each of its component persons without naming the overarching word “Trinity”. Today, we are going to look at the Fatherhood of God – the first person of the Trinity. God is beyond gender, but He has revealed Himself as Father in the Bible. In the Old Testament, God is constantly referred to as Father. In the New Testament teachings of Jesus, we are presented with a new level intimacy with God the Father. As in Jesus' “Parable of the Prodigal Son” in Luke 15:11-32, the father gave his son his independence and freedom of will when requested by the son so that he could stray, but the father was always looking for the return of his son, just as God, as our Father, looks for our return to Him from our sinful lives. The father in Jesus' parable exhibited both “mercy” and “grace”, just as God our Father provides us “mercy” and “grace” through the Cross and the Resurrection. Jesus, through His parable, wants us to know that God loves us and God desires a relationship with us. Today, the implications of God our Father to us are: 1) we are adopted into God's family; 2) the Father makes us Spiritual persons – God gives the Holy Spirit; and 3) God the Father allows us to become “Spiritual Heirs” – including an inheritance of eternal life. It is because of Jesus that we can have access to this loving Father. We cannot rely on someone else for our relationship with God – we are God's children; but God, our Father, has no grandchildren. What an awesome God 5-24-26 by New Beginnings Church

In this episode of What God Showed Me Today, we sit in the tension between two anchor points of Scripture and prayer: Deuteronomy 10:12–13 calls us into something startlingly intimate— to walk in all God's ways, to love Him, and to serve Him with all our heart and soul. But just a few verses later (10:17), Moses describes this same God as "the great, mighty, and awesome God"—a phrase that Jewish prayer preserves in the opening of the Amidah. That word "awesome" (נורא) is not casual language. It carries the sense of a God who is beyond containment, beyond emotional grasp, beyond intellectual reduction—yet still inviting covenant intimacy. This episode explores the paradox: The God who cannot be grasped Is the same God who commands total heart-and-soul intimacy And fear of the Lord is not distance—it is alignment with the overwhelming presence of Love itself We trace how the Amidah preserves this ancient confession: "Great, Mighty, and Awesome" and how that framing actually deepens—not lessens—the call of Deuteronomy 10:12–13. What if "fear of the Lord" is not shrinking back… but stepping fully into a love so vast it overwhelms every lesser loyalty?

In your personal relationship with God as a Jesus Follower, the Lord will speak to you; but sometimes it takes your listening and fasting to hear Him. For example, when Joel received a Word when the land was to be destroyed, he called a fast (i.e. Joel 1:14): “Consecrate a fast; call a solemn assembly. Gather the elders and all the inhabitants of the land to the house of the LORD your God, and cry out to the LORD.”. Some things you are facing in your life must be dealt with by both prayer and fasting. Fasting releases a spiritual power – in your weakness, God is made strong in your life. Daniel's prayer, from Daniel 9:3-5, provides a context for asking direction from God: “Then I turned my face to the Lord God, seeking him by prayer and pleas for mercy with fasting and sackcloth and ashes. I prayed to the LORD my God and made confession, saying, ‘O Lord, the great and awesome God, who keeps covenant and steadfast love with those who love him and keep his commandments, we have sinned and done wrong and acted wickedly and rebelled, turning aside from your commandments and rules.'".     TODAY'S PRAYER: Lord, Sabbath rest is truly an unbelievable gift! When you hear the word "superstar," you may think of some great athlete or A-list movie star or some television personality - a celebrity. I'm sorry, but I personally think that's a pretty lame use of the word when you hear about the kind of star that astronomers have been discovering. Like the largest known star in the universe! Conventional telescopes had missed it because of vast dust clouds. But the Hubble Space Telescope picked it up. It is (get this) 186 million miles wide and ten million times brighter than the Sun! That's a superstar. Don't even try to comprehend one star that enormous! Interesting footnote - according to many theories on how stars are formed, a star this large is an impossibility! It's there, it is not impossible. I'm Ron Hutchcraft, and I want to have A Word With You today about "Awesome God, Awesome Love." Our word for today from the Word of God comes from Psalm 8:1-4. "O Lord, our Lord, how majestic is Your name in all the earth! You have set Your glory above the heavens...When I consider Your heavens, the work of Your fingers, the moon and the stars, which You have set in place, what is man that You are mindful of him, the son of man that you care for him?" It's hard to come up with a theory big enough to contain the infinity of what's out there. But it's not hard to come up with a creator big enough to explain it all. And speaking of Jesus, the Bible further explains in John 1:3 that "through Him all things were made; without Him nothing was made that has been made." When you consider that beyond that superstar are literally millions of galaxies, your mind just goes on overload. But there is something more staggering than the size of creation...and that is the possibility that you could have a personal love relationship with the creator of it all! That's what the psalmist couldn't grasp - in light of the splendor and magnitude of all you've created, God, why do you care about us little guys and girls on this speck of dust called earth? But the amazing truth is that this awesome God has a deep, deep love for you. Here's how you can know that. In those same verses that tell us Jesus created it all, it says that He "became flesh and made His dwelling among us" (John 1:14). The One who created that mega-star - and countless millions of galaxies - left the Throne Room of the universe to come here as one of us. And everything in us screams, "But why?" Answer - two chapters later. "God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life." Why? God loves you so much. So much that even though we've defied Him by running our own life, He sent His Son to go to a cross to bear the death penalty for my sin and yours. God does not want to lose you. And when Jesus comes knocking on the door of your heart, offering you His love and His forgiveness, it just doesn't make any sense to reject Him or postpone Him. This is the One who made it all - who loved you enough to die for you. Why would you wait another day to begin a personal love-relationship with the most awesome person in all the universe? Have you ever begun this relationship that Jesus died to make possible? He proved that He can give it to us, because He walked out of his grave under his own power. And only the One who's proven He has eternal life can give it to you. This is your day to be born into God's family; to begin your relationship you were made for. When you hear the word "superstar," you may think of some great athlete or A-list movie star or some television personality - a celebrity. I'm sorry, but I personally think that's a pretty lame use of the word when you hear about the kind of star that astronomers have been discovering. Like the largest known star in the universe! Conventional telescopes had missed it because of vast dust clouds. But the Hubble Space Telescope picked it up. It is (get this) 186 million miles wide and ten million times brighter than the Sun! That's a superstar. Don't even try to comprehend one star that enormous! Interesting footnote - according to many theories on how stars are formed, a star this large is an impossibility! It's there, it is not impossible. I'm Ron Hutchcraft, and I want to have A Word With You today about "Awesome God, Awesome Love." Our word for today from the Word of God comes from Psalm 8:1-4. "O Lord, our Lord, how majestic is Your name in all the earth! You have set Your glory above the heavens...When I consider Your heavens, the work of Your fingers, the moon and the stars, which You have set in place, what is man that You are mindful of him, the son of man that you care for him?" It's hard to come up with a theory big enough to contain the infinity of what's out there. But it's not hard to come up with a creator big enough to explain it all. And speaking of Jesus, the Bible further explains in John 1:3 that "through Him all things were made; without Him nothing was made that has been made." When you consider that beyond that superstar are literally millions of galaxies, your mind just goes on overload. But there is something more staggering than the size of creation...and that is the possibility that you could have a personal love relationship with the creator of it all! That's what the psalmist couldn't grasp - in light of the splendor and magnitude of all you've created, God, why do you care about us little guys and girls on this speck of dust called earth? But the amazing truth is that this awesome God has a deep, deep love for you. Here's how you can know that. In those same verses that tell us Jesus created it all, it says that He "became flesh and made His dwelling among us" (John 1:14). The One who created that mega-star - and countless millions of galaxies - left the Throne Room of the universe to come here as one of us. And everything in us screams, "But why?" Answer - two chapters later. "God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life." Why? God loves you so much. So much that even though we've defied Him by running our own life, He sent His Son to go to a cross to bear the death penalty for my sin and yours. God does not want to lose you. And when Jesus comes knocking on the door of your heart, offering you His love and His forgiveness, it just doesn't make any sense to reject Him or postpone Him. This is the One who made it all - who loved you enough to die for you. Why would you wait another day to begin a personal love-relationship with the most awesome person in all the universe? Have you ever begun this relationship that Jesus died to make possible? He proved that He can give it to us, because He walked out of his grave under his own power. And only the One who's proven He has eternal life can give it to you. This is your day to be born into God's family; to begin your relationship you were made for.
