The Munsters was a widely popular show which ran from 1964 to 1966. But does anyone under age of 40 really remember the Munsters. Unlike the Addams Family, they didn't have a movie in the 1990s that kept them cemented in the younger audience's memory. But the people who are fans of the series are passionate about it. And one of those fans is musician and filmmaker Rob Zombie who has desired to create a movie based on the series he loved and grew up watching. Recently he released a trailer for the project which is scheduled to be released in September which has left people… confused.    Known for movies like House of 1000 Corpses and the Devils Rejects, the trailer for the film comes off looking like a pilot for a television series rather than a major motion picture. And we here at the Mental Suppository have… feelings about this trailer.   Join Bret and Andrew as they discuss what they thought upon first watching the trailer for the film and talk about the overall look of the film. And why the heck does Herman Munster sound like Joe Besser???

Today in his return visit, Brent talks all about Curly and his joining the team, at Columbia for the start of the shorts, his being a Mamyboy, his fun immaturity and his sad declining years and death at 48 after struggling for years after a stroke at 43 on set. Brent who writes for the Three Stooges Journal and has helped with the wonderful museum in Philadelphia dedicated to the team called the Stoogeum. (Gary Lassin). Brent sets the record straight and breaks many popular myths about the creation of the stooges. Brent's research has provided us with this fascinating historical look at the creation of our favorite comedy team. Read Brent's stories and research at TheThreeStooges.net. For all things Stooge-related, this is an impressive one-stop resource, and a lot of fun to browse. There's a detailed filmography and chronology, as well as lists of TV guest appearances, film & TV tributes (citing, for instance, every vintage cartoon in which the Stooges were caricatured), a bibliography, comicography, and videography (identifying the contents of many video compilations). Every entry is illustrated with— —stills, posters, comic book covers, and more, like a film-by-film rundown of memorable Stooge quotes (“If this was my place, I'd throw you outta it!”). The site not only deals with The Three Stooges as a team but solo work by Ted Healy, Shemp Howard, Joe DeRita, and Joe Besser. THE HOME PAGE spotlights a film of the day, a comic book of the day, and a video link. Rob Davidson is the webmaster, and data administrator Brent Seguine said their next challenge is a rundown of all the Stooges' radio appearances, so stay tuned for even more knucklehead information --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/RickLertzman/support

The Three Stooges were an American vaudeville and comedy team active from 1928 until 1970, best known for their 190 Columbia short-subject films that are still syndicated on television. Their hallmark was physical farce and slapstick. In films, the Stooges were commonly known by their actual first names. There were a total of six stooges over the act's run, with only three active at any given time, but Moe Howard and Larry Fine were mainstays throughout the ensemble's run of more than forty years. The act began as part of a mid-1920s vaudeville comedy act, billed as "Ted Healy and His Stooges", consisting of Healy, Moe Howard, Moe's brother Shemp Howard and Larry Fine. The four made one feature film, Soup to Nuts, before Shemp left to pursue a solo career. He was replaced by his younger brother, Jerome "Curly" Howard, in 1932. Two years later, the trio left Healy and signed on to appear in their own short-subject comedies for Columbia Pictures, now billed as "The Three Stooges". From 1934 to 1946, Moe, Larry and Curly produced over 90 short films for Columbia. It was during this period that the three were at their peak popularity. Curly suffered a debilitating stroke in May 1946, and Shemp returned, reinstating the original lineup, until his death of a heart attack on November 22, 1955. Film actor Joe Palma was used as a temporary stand-in to complete four Shemp-era shorts under contract (the maneuver thereafter became known as the term of art "Fake Shemp"). Columbia contract player Joe Besser joined as the third Stooge for two years (1956–57), departing in 1958 to nurse his ailing wife. Columbia terminated its shorts division and released its Stooges contractual rights to the Screen Gems production studio. Screen Gems then syndicated the shorts to television, whereupon the Stooges became one of the most popular comedy acts of the early 1960s. Comic actor Joe DeRita became "Curly Joe" in 1958, replacing Besser for a new series of full-length theatrical films. With intense television exposure, the act regained momentum throughout the 1960s as popular kiddie fare, until Larry Fine's paralyzing stroke in January 1970. Fine died in 1975 after a further series of strokes. Attempts were made to revive the Stooges with longtime supporting actor Emil Sitka in Larry's role in 1970, and again in 1975, but this attempt was cut short by Moe's death on May 4, 1975. bbott and Costello (William (Bud) Abbott, 1897-1974; Louis Cristillo, 1906-1959) were an American comedy duo whose work in radio, film, and television made them one of the most popular and respected teams in comedy history. Their "Who's on First?" routine, developed during their years in burlesque, is widely considered to be one of the greatest comedy sketches of all time. They received their first national exposure in 1938 when they appeared on radio's The Kate Smith Hour. Their popularity on the program grew and they stayed on as regulars for two years. This led to roles in a Broadway musical, "The Streets of Paris," in 1939. In 1940 they were signed by Universal for the film One Night in the Tropics. Cast strictly in a supporting capacity, they nonetheless stole the show with several classic routines, including their immortal "Who's on First?" Universal signed them to a long-term contract and their second film, "Buck Privates," 1941 secured their place as movie stars. The duo made over 30 films between 1940 and 1956 (see list below) and were among the most popular and highest-paid entertainers in the world during World War II. Among their most popular films are "Hold That Ghost," "Who Done It?", "Pardon My Sarong," "The Time of Their Lives," "Buck Privates Come Home," "Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein," and "Abbott and Costello Meet the Invisible Man." The team also appeared on radio throughout the 1940s. They began by hosting a summer replacement series for Fred Allen on NBC in 1940, then joined Edgar Bergen and Charlie McCarthy on the Chase and Sanborn program in 1941. During the same period two of their films, "Buck Privates" and "Hold That Ghost," were adapted for radio and presented on Lux Radio Theater. On October 8, 1942 the team launched their own weekly show on NBC sponsored by Camel cigarettes. They moved to ABC (the former NBC Blue Network) from 1947-49. By 1951, the twosome had moved to television--first as one of the rotating hosts of The Colgate Comedy Hour (Eddie Cantor and Bob Hope were among the others) and then, the following year, in their own situation comedy, The Abbott and Costello Show. The half-hour series was loosely adapted from their radio show, but cast the duo as unemployed wastrels. One of the show's running gags involved Abbott perpetually nagging Costello to get a job to pay their rent, while Abbott barely lifted a finger himself in that direction. The show featured Sidney Fields as their landlord and Hillary Brooke as a friendly neighbor who sometimes got involved in the pair's schemes. Another semi-regular was Joe Besser, who played Stinky, a 40-year-old sissy dressed in a Little Lord Fauntleroy suit. The Abbott and Costello Show ran from 1952 to 1954, but the show found a new life in syndicated rerun broadcast in the late 1960s and early-to-mid 1970s, and the episodes were probably seen by more viewers this time around than when the show was actually produced.
