We're back with a Christmas bang and another clean episode of the pod, in language at least if not topic. For those with a keen ear, this episode dropped at 2.30pm, a perfect little nod to panto, a medium both of my guests know all too well. Today we have two heavyweights of the stage, Eric Potts and Brad Fitt, both of whom have been wowing audiences for years performing as Dames every Christmas in UK Panto, a genre I myself was involved with for a decade. Eric brings us memories of Classic Christmas Television and disturbing children's shows while Brad and I discuss the tricky task of protecting our kids from unsavoury imagery, the genius of Larry Grayson, and how a theatre tour of India in 2004 scarred us both. Being a Christmas episode, there is much talk of Morcambe & Wise, Dr Who and surprisingly, the fad that is Prime. It's a return match for Matthew Rhys and Rob Brydon, in this, Matthew's second appearance on the pod. The impressions run thick and fast. From Tom Jones, to Richard Burton with cameos by Larry Grayson and Windsor Davies. The showbiz tales are solid gold. Matthew also shares some rather intimate advice he received from Kenneth Cranham before he appeared naked on stage, and we find out why Matthew has recently grown a moustache….See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

This time we go Behind the Scenes with the fearless, highly talented singer Gilly Hamilton, whose career spanned 3 decades and encompassed the halcyon days of show business and variety. As a key member of the pop-music close-harmony trio The Kaye Sisters she appeared alongside most of the major entertainment stars of the 1970s through to the 1990s. Supporting Max Bygraves, the Kayes appeared in the 1978 Royal Variety, shared a long-running residency in London's West End and performed regularly on many of Max's top-rated television series With recollections of ATV's live ‘Saturday Variety' with Larry Grayson, not forgetting Bernard Manning on Granada's ‘The Wheeltappers and Shunters Social Club', plus the travails of working cabaret all across Britain and the Middle East, Gilly's career is a remarkable eye-witness account of what it was really like to be treading the boards during the Golden Age of entertainment. Originally from Tranmere in Birkenhead, Paul worked as a social worker for Camden Council as well as working part time in pubs around London in the 1980s. His talent as a drag artist was discovered at the Royal Vauxhall Tavern in South London after he stood in for the compere who'd rung in sick.He got his first big break on Channel 4's Big Breakfast replacing Paula Yates in 1995. Since then he's hosted Blankety Blank and his own Lily Savage Show as well as the sitcom Eyes Down, set in a bingo hall in Liverpool. He'll also be following in the footsteps of Bruce Forsyth, Larry Grayson and Jim Davidson by fronting a new series of the show the Generation Game.
