Jean and Mike had entirely different solving experiences tackling today's crossword, a fine effort by Larry Snyder. Jean made short work of it, but Mike started inventing words out of whole cloth, a fraught activity when solving a NYTimes Friday crossword. Yet, while their solving experiences might have differed, they both agree that this crossword most definitely deserved 5 squares on the JAMCR scale. In other news, it's Fun Fact Friday, and Muppet / Hunter S. How and when are you going to sell your company? It's the biggest sale you'll ever make, and the one that too many business owners aren't spending enough time preparing for. But the sale of your business needs your time and attention now in order to really pay off down the road. Larry Snyder has successfully led businesses for over 40 years. He has been through all four stages of a business — starting one, building the foundation, growing the business, and exiting. He knows the value of being prepared for an exit from Day 1 and how to achieve that for optimal value. Looking back to his own exits, Larry made several key proactive steps. First, he recognized that a successful exit doesn't happen overnight. He also identified how to align all invested partners to optimize well before the exit date. Larry has seen firsthand what happens when companies don't have a clearly-thought-out exit strategy in place. And without one, business owners are setting themselves up to receive a fraction of the sale price that their business is actually worth. But how can a business owner know if they are on the right track for making a smooth exit? Start by taking a vacation! If you can't take a two-week vacation without your company falling apart or you constantly having to check in on everyone, you've still got some work to do. Create a clear picture of your exit. What does it look like when you leave the business, regardless if it's five, ten or twenty years from now? What is your role in the company once you have made your sale? Larry shares several anecdotal experiences where it pays to begin with the end in mind. Most importantly, no matter how far you are from your exit, dedicate some time to structuring it each week, and ask the questions that lead to the insight that you need to be prepared for the optimal exit, whenever it may come. Larry has successfully led businesses for over 40 years. He began his career with a major food processing company and quickly became – at the age of 25 - the manager of an $80 million operation that moved 700 truckloads of peaches, pears, and tomatoes a day (yes, a day) to processing facilities throughout California. He was able to take that big company experience to a smaller, closely held company where he became a leader and a partner. That company serves the fresh produce industry and cools, then stores and ships lettuce, celery, and strawberries among other fresh produce items. During his time with the company, Larry and his partners have grown the business from $25 million a year in sales to $150 million a year in sales. As the company grew, facilities and equipment were built, the organization was developed and financing was needed. Larry and his wife, Lori, are also real estate investors with investments in apartments, shopping centers, and office complexes primarily in the southeast and in Texas. Larry has lived the pains and the thrills of growing and operating a successful business. He loves business and he loves helping people. He is now is able to do that by using his business experience along with world-class training and development programs. As an old-fashioned sports biopic, Race (2016) is serviceable. IT is exactly what one might expect of such a film: a sepia-toned, self-congratulatory, anti-fascist/racist flick about Jesse Owens. Jesse Owens, however, is sadly overshadowed by familiar beats and 'sophisticated' cliches in this Focus Features slog. An incredible/preternatural athlete and seemingly charismatic individual, Owens is bogged down by white savior narratives and a syrupy bromance with Ted Lasso himself (Sudeikis, before he made a name for himself on the pitch) as the Ohio St. track-and-field coach Larry Snyder. The film also stars Jeremy Irons as Avery Brundage (the sometimes virtuous/sometimes mercenary head of the Olympic committee), Carice van Houten as Leni Riefenstahl (the famous/infamous director & Nazi propagandist who is given a sugar-coated hagiographic treatment), and Barnaby Metschurat as Joseph Goebbels (perfectly insidious and awful in every way). With so many talented actors and powerful historical source material, Race is not bad by any stretch of the imagination. It is just exceptionally mediocre and ethically dubious at times when it is most trying to virtue signal and coddle modern audiences with bromides and platitudes.
In his 30 years of experience, Larry Snyder grew his business from $25M a year in sales to $150M/yr in sales. Now that he's sold his equity, he's focused on Real Estate and helping others take themselves to the next level. During this one week break from the study in Exodus, Larry shares a very small passage with a very large potential. 9Jabez was more honorable than his brothers, and his mother named him Jabez saying, “Because I bore him with pain.” 10Now Jabez called on the God of Israel, saying, “Oh that You would bless me indeed and enlarge my border, and that Your hand might be with me, and that You would keep me from harm that it may not pain me!” And God granted him what he requested. New American Standard Bible: 1995 update. (1995). (1 Ch 4:9–10). La Habra, CA: The Lockman Foundation. The book The Prayer of Jabez by Bruce Wilkinson became a New York Times bestseller subsequent to its publication in 2000. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Prayer_of_Jabez

Ozark Highlands Radio is a weekly radio program that features live music and interviews recorded at Ozark Folk Center State Park’s beautiful 1,000-seat auditorium in Mountain View, Arkansas. In addition to the music, our “Feature Host” segments take listeners through the Ozark hills with historians, authors and personalities who explore the people, stories, and history of the Ozark region. This week, the talented and versatile Ruby Pines performs with a variety of great musicians, including her father Larry Snyder, live at the Ozark Folk Center State Park. Also, interviews with Ruby Pines, Ozark Highlands Radio host Dave Smith and producer Jeff Glover discuss the fine points of what makes “folk music,” and Mark Jones offers an archival recording of Ozark original Judy Husky, singing the classic song “Let’s All Go Down to the River.” Rachel Kempf (aka Ruby Pines) had an unassuming musical introduction at the Ozark Folk Center State Park. At one time she worked as a front desk assistant. Rachel made mention to another park employee that she did “some singing” on the side. We’re quite glad that conversation happened. Now a married mother of three, Rachel still performs at the OFCSP regularly, covering a wide range of musical styles. As “Ruby Pines” she performs traditional music of the region in a group that includes her father, Larry Snider on banjo. With “Romantics” the leanings are toward more traditional jazz standards. Ozark Highlands Radio host Dave Smith and producer Jeff Glover discuss the fine points of what makes “folk music,” drawing from interviews & perspectives of various folk musicians. Mark Jones' “From the Vault” segment offers an archival recording of Ozark original Judy Husky, singing the classic song “Let’s All Go Down to the River,” from the Ozark Folk Center State Park archives.

Jesse Owens, son of a sharecropper and grandson of a slave, became a track star at his alma mater of Ohio State University, where Larry Snyder, a former promising track star himself, is head coach of the track team. Coach Snyder sees raw talent in the young man, and knowing that the 1936 Olympics isn't too far in the distance, he thinks that Owens is just the diamond in the rough the country needs to win Olympic Gold, showing him how to work on a proper start to the race, and adding the long jump to his repertoire. However, the Olympics is to be held in the lions' den of racial intolerance, Berlin under Hitler's regime, and the intent of the games under the leadership of Joseph Goebbels is to show that the Aryan race is the supreme race in the world. With the International Olympic Committee conflicted about whether to boycott the games, and the NAACP requesting Owens also sit it out in protest, it's looking bleak for what might be the fastest runner in the world to find his claim to fame.
