Welcome to Multiverse News, Your source for Information about all your favorite fictional universes The topic of Captain America reshoots is one we've discussed a lot and recently Cap himself Anthony Mackie addressed reshoot and poor test screening rumors head on, telling Empire “It wasn't retooled at all, every Marvel movie I've done has done reshoots, so it's not retooling or remaking. You basically get the movie and the story you want, you edit it together, then go back and shoot a few more scenes." Since last week, The Hollywood Reporter has also finally revealed that the total budget of the film is significantly less than previously thought - coming in at around $180 million dollars. Switching to the Sorcerer Supreme himself, Benedict Cumberbatch made some headlines after revealing in an interview with Variety that Doctor Strange will not be in Avengers: Doomsday. Cumberbatch cited the reason being Strange's character “not aligning with this part of the story,” and also let loose that the Master of the Mystic Arts will be in “a lot” of Avengers: Secret Wars. In typical James Gunn fashion, the director and DC Studios co-chair gave us a first look at Milly Alcock's Supergirl in a still photo he released on social media last week. The post also confirmed filming recently began. The weekend's NFL division championships provided space for a new-ish Superman trailer, with mostly the same footage, but a different look at Nicholas Hoult's Lex Luther. And in our final DC news nugget, actor Ulrich Thomson was cast as villain Sinestro for the upcoming Lanterns series. Thomsen is a Danish actor who was seen in The Blacklist here in the states. In comics, Sinestro is Hal Jordan's mentor. The Oscar nominations were unveiled last week after a brief delay caused by the devastating and ongoing fires in California. Leading the pack this year is Emilia Pérez, earning an impressive 13 nominations despite ongoing controversy surrounding the film's portrayal of cultural identity, which has sparked heated debates online. Close behind are The Brutalist and Wicked, tied with 10 nominations each and A Complete Unknown and Conclave earned eight nods apiece. On the studio front, Netflix emerged as the frontrunner with 16 total nominations, followed by A24 with 14, Universal with 13, Focus Features with 12, and Searchlight with 10. However, the announcement wasn't without its surprises—or disappointments—as some fan-favorite films, including Challengers, Furiosa, and Civil War, were notably snubbed. Warner Bros unveiled a new official trailer for SINNERS from director Ryan Coogler and frequent collaborator and star Michael B. Jordan, the film will hit theatres April 18. David Leitch — the stuntman turned director behind John Wick and The Fall Guy — is in talks to direct Ocean's 14. The film is expected to return original Ocean's 11 cast members George Clooney and Brad Pitt, among others. Neon has released the first trailer for horror film Hell of a Summer, starring Stranger Things star Finn Wolfhard, who is also making his directorial debut. The film debuts in theaters on April 18. HBO has renewed anthology series The White Lotus for a fourth season. The third season will begin streaming on February 16. Focus Features, Universal's art house division which released and financed Nosferatu, is reteaming with Robert Eggers for his next film titled Werwulf, currently set for release on Christmas Day 2026. While details are scarce, sources tell The Hollywood Reporter that the story is set in 13th century England. George Nolfi, known for his screenplay work on movies such as The Bourne Ultimatum and Ocean's 12, has been tapped to write New Jedi Order, the Daisy Ridley-centric Star Wars movie. The move to Nolfi makes the third writer change for the project.

Kenny and Mike review and discuss faith reflected in the Academy Award nominated film starring Adrien Brody. Written, produced and directed by Brady Corbet, the film shows the story of a Hungarian-Jewish holocaust survior, Laszlo Toth (Brody) who imigrates to the United States following World War 2. A renowned architect in Europe, Toth comes to Philadelphia with only a suitcase and an invitation to stay with a cousin who imigrated earlier. After a fallout with his cousin, Toth, living in a shelter, is sought out by industrialist Harrison Lee Van Buren (Guy Pearce) for whom he and his cousin had done work, and was the catalyst for their fallout. Van Buren offers Toth a commission to design a very large civic center and chapel for his hometown outside of Philadelphia. Following an intermission, the second part of the 3 hour 20 minute film begins with the arrival of Laszlo's wife Erzsebeth (Felicity Jones) and Laszlo's niece Zsofia (Raffey Cassidy) who does not speak and cares for Erzsebeth who is confined to a wheelchair as a result of her time in a concentration camp. The film depicts the struggles the Toth's face rebuilding their lives and relationship after a long separation and in the midst of Van Buren's and societal disdain for them. Faith Spotted: Gifts for service to the Church as well as talents in life are given by God. People should be humble in their use and any recognition that comes with the talents and gifts. Gifts to God and communities should be to glorify God and serve the community rather than glorify the individual or family giving it. We are called to be stewards of the gifts and talents God has given us. We are to be truly welcoming and accepting persons of other faiths and cultures including imigrants and refugees who are fleeing danger and or seeking to start a new life. Welcoming includes offering hospitiality and love to others as we do our neighbors.

Philip and Lara discuss the new film from Focus Features and Robert Eggers, a remake of the 1922 German silent film 'Nosferatu.' Eggers brings his signature austere style to this classic Gothic horror story, originally an unauthorized adaptation of Bram Stoker's 'Dracula.' Key details were changed from the book, but that didn't stop the original film's legacy from being threatened by the forcible destruction of all prints due to copyright infringement. Thankfully the film lives on and Max Shreck's iconic portrayal of the corpse-like Count Orlok would go on to inspire generations of vampire enthusiasts. Bill Skarsgård provides a unique take on Count Orlok as he haunts and seduces his unwitting victims, such as the newlywed Thomas and Ellen Hutter and their friends Frederick and Anna Harding. This dark, atmospheric film evokes the previous works of Eggers whose obsessive attention to detail transports you to 1830s Germany, where the fear of plagues and sorcery were ever-present, often requiring tremendous sacrifice to thwart the evil that infects the world. The feud between Blake Lively and It Ends with Us director Justin Baldoni continues to unfold. What's going on here? Kim Masters and Bloomberg's Lucas Shaw investigate.Plus, Masters speaks to Nosferatu writer-director Robert Eggers and Focus Features chairman Peter Kujawski. The pair talk about their long partnership, which spans the director's entire career. Eggers also talks about winning over seasoned crews who have years more experience than he does, and why a little humor goes a long way in a movie like Nosferatu.
In this special instant take, Will Ashton dives into Robert Eggers' latest film, Nosferatu, unpacking its deep ties to the 1922 horror classic and its fresh take on the Dracula mythos. He breaks down Eggers' distinct artistic style, highlights standout performances from Willem Dafoe and Bill Skarsgård, and praises the film's jaw-dropping production design and cinematography. Will also reflects on how Nosferatu fits into the modern horror landscape, sharing why it’s such an exciting year-end release that horror fans won’t want to miss. Nosferatu opened in theaters on December 25 through Focus Features and has a runtime of 132 minutes. The rest of the cast includes Nicholas Hoult, Lily-Rose Depp, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Emma Corrin, Ralph Ineson, and Simon McBurney. More about Nosferatu: Set in 19th-century Europe, Nosferatu follows Thomas Hutter, a real estate agent who heads to the eerie, isolated estate of Count Orlok to close a business deal. Sounds straightforward, right? Not quite. Things take a dark and sinister turn when Hutter realizes Orlok is no ordinary recluse: he’s a full-on vampire with a thirst for blood and an unsettling interest in Hutter’s wife, Ellen. As the danger escalates and Orlok’s shadow creeps closer to the village, the story unfolds into a chilling mix of gothic horror, psychological tension, and devastating stakes. Robert Eggers brings his trademark grit and authenticity to this retelling, delivering a film that feels both classic and refreshingly new. Daniel Day-Lewis is coming out of retirement, seven years after his last movie, for a film directed by his son Ronan Day-Lewis. The project was announced Tuesday by Focus Features and Plan B, who are partnering on “Anemone.” The film, Ronan Day-Lewis' directorial debut, will star his father along with Sean Bean and Samantha Morton. The two Day-Lewises co-wrote the film. Earlier Tuesday, Daniel Day-Lewis and Bean were spotted driving a motorbike through Manchester, England, stoking intrigue about his impending return to acting. After making Paul Thomas Anderson's 2017 film “Phantom Thread,” the 67-year-old said he was quitting acting. Given Day-Lewis's decades-long filmography, and 3 Academy Awards to his name, we thought it'd be good to look back at his legacy to help contextualize how significant his contributions have been. On episode 245 of The AwardsWatch Podcast, we're doing things a little different. Splitting off from the main pod that drops on Mondays, AwardsWatch Editor-In-Chief Erik Anderson, Executive Editor Ryan McQuade and Associate Editor Sophia Ciminello focus on the fall festivals and the awards contenders that will potentially come from them. A leaner, shorter conversation, we'll be sharing hosting duties and digging into how important these festival plays, and which ones, can be a crucial part of the awards campaign. Looking at the Venice, New York and Toronto film festivals (which was recorded ahead of yesterday's TIFF's Centerpiece and NYFF main slate announcements), we talk about New York's Opening, Centerpiece and Closing films with RaMell Ross's Nickel Boys, Pedro Almodóvar's The Room Next Door and Steve McQueen's Blitz, respectively. NYFF is also a great playground for Cannes winners, which we expect to see show up. We also have a few potential outliers, Jason Reitman's Saturday Night and James Mangold's A Complete Unknown, that haven't been announced for any festival yet that could pop up later. We talk a bit about Telluride (we'll do a singular pod on that soon), where the Reitman film could debut, and even earning the director a medallion on the mountain. We have a lot to say about Pablo Larraín's Maria and Luca Guadagnino's Queer, both premiering at Venice in a matter of weeks, still not having any U.S. distribution. While Maria, based on the date it's hitting the Lido, is likely to show up at Telluride, Queer definitely won't. Where else could it be this season? We talk about the strange reveal of Edward Berger's Conclave earning a PG rating from the MPA. The buzzy papal thriller beach read could be reverse appealed by Focus Features to up it to a PG-13 to give the film more adult gravitas (the only recent Best Picture nominee rated PG has been Greta Gerwig's Little Women). Searchlight Pictures dropped news that Jesse Eisenberg's Sundance winner A Real Pain will move off its original October 18 bow to November 1, opening the door for a much bigger fall festival run right before it premieres. We close with BAFTA revealing a host changes to voting and eligibility in nearly all categories (including getting rid of the way the juries decide nominees) and introducing a whole new category, Best Children's and Family Film. You can listen to The AwardsWatch Podcast wherever you stream podcasts, from iTunes, iHeartRadio, Soundcloud, Stitcher, Spotify, Audible, Amazon Music and more. This podcast runs 51m. We will be back next week on the main show to do another Oscar retrospective episode over the 52nd Academy Awards and the films of 1979. Till then, let's get into it.

This week we're excited to present a conversation with Dìdi director Sean Wang, who recently joined us for the 2024 New York Asian Film Festival. In his feature debut, Sean Wang, hot on the heels of his Oscar-nominated documentary short Nǎi Nai & Wài Pó, crafts a poignant and humorous narrative that captures the essence of adolescence in 2008 California. Thirteen-year-old Chris, aka Wang Wang (Izaac Wang), navigates the treacherous waters of teenage life, from awkward dating to ruining friendships, while discovering his passion for skateboard filming. Wang deftly employs timeless coming-of-age tropes, exposing the embarrassing and hilarious moments that define this pivotal stage. However, it is Chris's struggle with his identity as an Asian American that elevates the film. Joan Chen and Shirley Chen deliver nuanced performances as Chris's mother and sister, respectively, adding depth to the family dynamics. Wang's nonfiction background lends authenticity and an insightful touch to this resonant dramedy, reminding us that the journey to self-discovery is universal, regardless of one's background, and that the path to understanding oneself is often paved with both laughter and tears. Winner of the 2024 Sundance Film Festival Audience Award: U.S. Dramatic and U.S. Dramatic Special Jury Award: Ensemble. Dìdi opens in theaters on July 26, courtesy of Focus Features. This conversation was moderated by NYAFF's Executive Director Samuel Jamier.
