On this day in 2015, Queen Elizabeth II surpassed Queen Victoria as the longest reigning British monarch in history. She served her duty for nearly 70 years, and lived through some of history's biggest and most impactful moments over the course of the last century. She'll be succeeded by her eldest son Charles III, whose coronation as the new King of England will take place following a period of mourning for the Queen's death. Furthermore, she is said to have passed away peacefully in her bed, surrounded by family. In other news of the day, 77 WABC Radio is spending the day remembering 9/11, as it is set to fall on a Sunday this year.
