It's been a hot minute since our last Circuit & Anthems set and for a good reason. Party Favorz was doling out a marathon of gay anthem classics that 1) there wasn't enough time to complete a circuit set for Pride and 2) there weren't enough worthy new tracks to compile a Pride set. The good news is that good things come to those who wait. Summer Edition 2022 features the cream of the crop in circuit anthems for your summer workouts and/or pure enjoyment. This one is for the boys that enjoy that big room tribal sound with progressive elements sprinkled throughout. Speaking of progressive elements — Mor Avrahami has been on a roll with his releases. It's always good to mix these sets up and Avrahami in the vein of Offer Nissim and Yinon Yahel — has been churning out the goods one right after another. Don't be surprised that he shows up here quite a bit. Just know that some of his great releases had to be cut out to keep this set tight. I also want to point out that "Daddy" by Sleepsleep & Tahlia Paris takes on a new life once Jace M & Toy Armada got their hands on the song. They've sampled the disco classic "Relight My Fire" by Dan Hartman. To my knowledge, this song has never been sampled before because it doesn't lend itself to a specific hook. It's one of those epic disco classics that starts with a prelude and three minutes later veers into the actual song. In this case, neither has any association with the other but merely connects the two parts. Jace and Toy sampled the prelude for the basis of "Daddy" turning the darker original into a fun tribal-disco romp that's bound to pack floors around the world. I don't think most DJs would have thought to sample that aspect of the song because it's just okay but damn if it doesn't work so well here. There's a lot to get excited about in this latest release but I'll let the music do the talking. Party Favorz is back with our annual Spring Edition featuring the hottest circuit anthems for what is shaping up to be one HOT summer! While this set had been in the can for just over a week — I was battling issues from all directions playing whack a mole with every new issue that kept popping up. This kept me busy spending most of my days on the phone trying to straighten out other people's bullshit. I had decided to drop one song from the set and replace another with a different version and needed to temper another track that was pitched too high. This appears to be something that several DJs have been doing lately. That is, reducing the bass and pushing the mid and highs up while overcompressing the song. Since I test all my mixes out on Bluetooth headphones, home speaker system and in my car — this new mastering by certain DJs is shrill and hurts the living shit out of my ears. I don't know the purpose of this new technique but it's driving my batshit crazy. As I find them, I go back and temper the highs and add a gentle boost to the bass so it doesn't sound like it's being squeezed out of a tin can. This is where I ran into some problems on one such song.  The Jace M & Toy Armada remix of "We Are," which is an outstanding track by Dan Slater & Zoë Badwi. For some strange reason, the song wouldn't load in my editor. I've never had this problem before and kept getting the error message "the path to file is not specified" by Windows. I looked it up and went through all of the troubleshooting steps for this error (which is apparently common but new to me). I was getting help on the WindowsTen forum but nothing was working. Finally, I bit the bullet and performed a clean install of the operating system and the problem persisted. It was only then that I decided to load a different song only to find it worked. So, the issue was specific to this one song but why? After looking at the title — I changed the 'ë' in Zoe's name to just 'e' and presto! That was the issue. The editor couldn't read the special character, which makes no sense. Why? Because it would load 'Tiësto' that uses the same diaeresis but one loads and the other does not. I'm thinking that Tiësto may use a special character for input where Zoë is input using the language instructions from the keyboard, where my keyboard layout is in English. Maybe...I can't say for certain. Regardless, I wasted two entire days just on this issue alone. The fact that I'm expending so much energy telling y'all about it should allude to how pissed I was over this one problem. I couldn't just drop the song because it really is stellar. Not only that, it opened up the set. Grrr. The good news is that I've really delivered a circuit and anthem set that will blow the roof off any party. After finishing the Sun mix, I was definitely ready to dive into something darker and harder. Don't let the first part of this mix fool you -- it does start off somewhat smoother -- it is still not for the weak. I just had to ease you into it. Ha. I didn't comment on any specific tracks on the last mix (save Viola's song), but I do want to bring a few to your attention on this one. To start, there are a number of new remixes/remakes of oldies but goodies on here. I didn't plan it that way on purpose. If they were good at one point, there must have been a reason. I hope those that remember the originals will enjoy these new takes on them. One song that has really been under the dance radar (although it did appear on Billboard a few weeks) is Valeriya -- Wild (Bimbo Jones Vocal Mix). Yeah. I have worked out to this song a number of times over the last few weeks and it just makes me, well, Wild (hardy har har). It just has so much energy. Another one, including the back-story... DJ Demarko feat. Heather Leigh West - Drop A House (Razor & Guido Remix). Many will remember the song by The Tamperer feat. Maya - Feel It from 1998. What you may not know is Maya didn't sing that song at all. Heather, however, did sing it a few years earlier with Urban Discharge in 1994. She, according to an interview, did not even know this (what I will call) "remix" existed until a friend played it off a dance mix CD. They essentially lied that it was Maya's vocals. There was even a video to their song, with Maya lip synching Heather's (very different than Maya's) voice. Long story short, in order to essentially prove once and for all that it was her vocals, she recently re-recorded the song (which she sounds exactly the same). I intro it with a remake of The Jacksons - Can You Feel It, as The Tamperer song sampled it extensively in their "remix". The Razor & Guido remix actually use a very similar backbeat as well. I've been waiting to put Can You Feel It and Drop a House together for years and have finally got my chance. I will say that The Tamperer "remix" does bring back so many memories of my coming out, so this song does share a special place in my heart (even if it's lyrics are, ironically, very bitter). :-) One last comment regarding Safire - Exotique (Mike Rizzo Funk Generation Club Mix)... I love a lot of Mike's remixes, although they would typically not appear where I use it, at the particular point of this kind of mix (or perhaps in this kind of mix at all). This remix, however, just grabbed me out of nowhere. There is something about the smooth chord progressions and subtle building that just give me chills every time I listen. I've already e-mailed him to see if there may be a long, 12-minute mix I don't know about. If I were at a party, I would love it to be played at the exact point where I placed it. Love it. I will have to say, probably my favorite song on the entire mix. Here at Party Favorz, I don't take a break.okay, once in a while, but when it comes to serving up some of the freshest beats on the circuit, there's no time for disco naps, nor egg hunting.  This is the final edition of spring and boy oh boy is it a scorcher!  Starting off with Yinon's take on Deborah Cox's "Beautiful U R" which is an amazing prog mix that has a beautiful drop about 2/3 of the way in.  Deep, dark and haunting, this is truly an amazing song that is supposed to have a second set of mixes coming out soon.  In the meantime, Deborah also collaborated with Axwell, Steve Angello, Sebastian Ingrosso and Laidback Luke for the star-studded "Leave the World Behind" which will be featured in my upcoming System Edition; so be on the watch for that.  You may be scratching your head and wondering what the hell Acorn, I mean Akon is doing on this mix; especially since he's not a particular favorite of mine.  Because Tracy Young worked this song every which way but loose!  If you can get past the vocals, Tracy's "Monster Mix" is worth the price of admission.  I already mentioned Razor 'n' Guido in my last post, so just know their re-work of the classic "Drop a House" is HOT!  The Chriss Ortega mix of "My Life Would Suck Without You" had already appeared on my last BPM Edition, but is the only entry for this song that's worth the play.  I really expected more from Tommy Sunshine and Friscia and Lamboy, but they basically turned in a mix that Jason Nevins could have worked out had he been asked to mix the song.eh!  Then we've got the return of Depeche Mode and the elusive Peter Rauhofer mix currently only available as a promo.  Why they left it off the commercial release is beyond me, because Peter's mix is not only the best but smoldering.  I am a little concerned that David's vocals are not up to par, leaving one to wonder. We finally get some new mixes for Rihanna's "Breaking Dishes" and Ralphi, true to form, did not disappoint.  I liked the 'Soul Seekerz' mix well enough from the original remix album that was released in conjunction with "Good Girl Gone Bad", but this version brings it to life.  I just hope those are Chris' dishes she's breaking; in fact go ahead and bust his balls while you're at it.  Probably my biggest disappointment here is the Junior Vasquez take on "Please Don't Leave".  An absolutely beautiful song in its own right, I do believe he could have done better.  This mix isn't bad but would have been better served with the full vocals.  Sadly, P!nk's label didn't commission many mixes for this, though the Digital Dog mix (which appeared on my last BPM Edition) is still the best version and retains all the elements that make this song so moving.  One of the weirdest treats in this mix comes from Jipsta's "I Want Your Sex".  If you were thinking 'George Michael"', you thought right.  I always thought this song was ripe for a remake, but never in a million years did I think a hip-hop/rapper would re-do it.  All I can say is HELL YEAH!  This song rocks and is accompanied by a ton of excellent mixes.  I don't usually use Mike Rizzo except in the BPM mixes, but his slamming take warranted inclusion.  The Perry Twins in collaboration with Niki Haris turn in a really fun song and is considerably beefed-up mix by the Escape & Capello team, who are currently riding high with one club hit after another.  Another welcome surprise comes from Cevin Fisher.  After last year's remake of his classic "You Got Me (Burnin' Up)", Cevin dove right back in his bag of goodies and brought out another classic "The Freaks Come Out".   As with the last release, the mixes for this song are all stellar.  I went with the Prok & Fitch remix because they are one of the underground darlings in the house scene at the moment and deliver a very memorable grind for this song.  This is going to be HUGE! Capping off the mix, Nick Harvey delivers a tribal lover's dream with "Beat on the Drum" and the amazing Allan Natal take on  Luis Erre's "...
