In last week's podcast, we had the opportunity to interview Santino Ferrucci in the driver's lounge of the AJ Foyt Racing transporter. While we were there, I noticed that he had a very unique design on his helmet. He was nice enough to spend more time and talk about his colorful and fun design and hint of some other designs to come. Unlike some drivers who keep the same design through their entire career, Ferrucci loves to change it up! This is certainly something extra for fans to pay attention to during the racing season. Enjoy!

Tonight, on Trackside, it's a one hour show tonight, but there is still a lot to talk about! Kevin and Curt discuss the Portland GP, and Will Power's dominating performance. They talk about what his career will be like moving forward, and Power's involvement with training young drivers. Kevin makes the point that Penske will decide if they will let Power keep racing for them, not Will himself. They talk about Colton Herta's use of the hybrid on pitlane and why that is against the rules, and the Dixon/Kirkwood collision, and if Kirkwood deserved the penalty, or Pietro Fittipaldi. They also go into detail about Grosjean's crash and being held responsible for hitting two cars. Later, Kevin talks about Santino Ferrucci's pole, and his overall performance, finishing 8th. Ferrucci also has 8 top 10s this season, when they only had one last season. They talk about Ferrucci going to Rahal and where Romain Grosjean will land, as his contract ends at the end of the season. Kevin highlights the lack of sponsorships on the Juncos-Hollinger car, and where Alexander Rossi will go. To round out the last hour, Kevin talks about what they missed during the show. Conor Daly and co-host Chase Holden return to Speed Street after a wild weekend in the streets of Detroit. In a race that saw Scott Dixon put on another fuel saving clinic to bring home his 58th career IndyCar victory, there was no love lost amongst the rest of the field. Conor and Chase dig into the latest Santino Ferrucci spat with Andretti Global teammates Kyle Kirkwood and Colton Herta, which bubbled up during an incident in the second practice session of the weekend where Santino felt Kirkwood blocked him unnecessarily while he was on a fast mock qualifying run. This marks the latest in an ongoing saga of driver feuds surrounding Ferrucci, and Conor gives listeners more insight to the feelings in the IndyCar paddock regarding the AJ Foyt Racing pilot. Scott Dixon joins the show to chat about how he survived the chaos and how the layout of the Detroit circuit leads to aggressive, caution-laden events. While this most recent running saw 47-laps run under caution, Scott gives a few ideas for changes that could be made that may help eliminate some of the contact between cars in the tight turns of the street course. Chase also pitches the idea of the IndyCar Series returning to the highbanks of Michigan International, to which Scott replies he's game as long as the fans follow them there. Scott and Conor discuss their time spent racing each other in the 108th running of the Indianapolis 500, and Scott weighs in on his contact with Ryan Hunter-Reay. Finally, the guys preview the upcoming weekend in Road America and Scott looks forward to his chaotic schedule immediately following when he'll fly to France to begin to prepare for the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

Phil and Josh come back on from a long weekend to recap the Greatest Day in Motorsports. Combining the Monaco Grand Prix, the Indianapolis 500 and Coca-Cola 600, race fans had over 1,260 miles of action without including all the preliminaries. Josef Newgarden took advantage of a Green-White-Checkered in the 107th Indy 500 to deny Marcus Ericsson a repeat and the Borg-Warner bonus over $420,000. This was off three red flags in the last 20 laps of the event, after a generally clean day prior to that. The guys go over all the key players (McLaren, Ganassi and Ferrucci), the incidents that led to the finish and if that is how the biggest race of the IndyCar season should end plus a points review leading to Detroit. Verstappen won a mixed weather Monaco Grand Prix over Fernando Alonso and Esteban Ocon. The only real drama was during the changeable conditions and issues for the drivers during that time. Many drivers had issues during the day and weekend, which affected the points leading to Barcelona. Phil and Josh provided live commentary on Ryan Blaney's first points win in 59 races at the rain-delayed Coca-Cola 600. Continuing the 2023 trend, Hendrick and Gibbs had the measure over the majority. However, the actual most popular driver in NASCAR had a great car and overcame numerous restarts to capture the major. The guys also talked about the XFinity race that had been rescheduled five or six times since the original start time, with Justin Allgaier using fuel mileage to get JR Motorsports their first win of 2023. Trucks actually ran on Friday and saw Ben Rhodes take his first win of 2023 on strategy, and promptly loses his crew chief to Matt Crafton. The GSP Roundup covers F2/F3, NHRA, WRC, Formula E, WSBK and Indy NXT before Phil and Josh preview and make picks for the IndyCar Detroit Grand Prix returning to the streets of Detroit for the first time since 1991. The guys also preview and make picks for the F1 Spanish Grand Prix along with the split NASCAR weekend between Gateway and Portland. Josh provides his exploits in the iRacing Coca-Cola 600 and other races in the Sim Segment prior to show close.

In this episode of the Epigenetics Podcast, we caught up with Morgan Levine from Altos lab to talk about her work on Epigenetic Clocks and Biomarkers of Ageing. The Levine Lab focuses on deciphering mechanisms that lead to epigenetic ageing, which can be measured by epigenetic clocks. Epigenetic clocks were first described in 2011 by Bocklandt et al.. Later-on, the Horvath and the Hannum clock were described by using a combination of CpGs to calculate biological/epigenetic age in contrast to chronological age. The Levine Lab themselves worked on generating an advanced version of an Epigenetic clock, called "DNAm PhenoAge" that will now be used, and not only in human samples. The team now moves to mouse models and to cells in a dish and using those models to investigate the mechanisms behind epigenetic aging. For better or worse, digital technologies, with their offerings of platforms and personalities, have threatened traditional news media outlets in terms of their hold on authority, legitimacy, and money. Decades into this battle over digital terrain, our guests today discuss the continued challenges to online media of all types and focus on what's been working – and what hasn't – for new and old news media players.Stefanie Silveira Professor in the Journalism Department at Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina, in Brazil, talks with us about a new wave of start-up digital news businesses in her country that are bringing new voices but are maybe not following traditional journalistic approaches to the news. From Hong Kong, Mistura Salaudeen, who has just completed her Ph.D. in the School of Communication and Film at Hong Kong Baptist University, discusses how mainstream journalists continue to delegitimize citizen journalism and how that form, particularly in Nigeria, is struggling for credibility. Lastly, Gregory Gondwe, an Assistant Professor in Communication Studies at California State University-San Bernardino, in the U.S., shares his work on conflicting sides of the story related to COVID-19 out of Sub-Saharan Africa where editors stood their ground for authoritative information on the pandemic, slighting the views of the citizenry. Gradually become aware of your environment: the air is clean and the sky intensely blue, there are flowers and grass all around you. The morning breeze gently caresses your cheeks. Feel the contact of your feet with the ground. Be aware of what clothing you are wearing. Take some time to become clearly conscious of all these perceptions. You feel a sense of readiness and expectancy. As you look around, you see a mountain. It towers close to you, and looking at its summit gives you a sense of extraordinary elevation. Then you decide to climb the mountain. You begin by entering a forest. You can smell the pleasant aroma of the pine trees and sense the cool, dark atmosphere. As you leave the forest, you enter a steep path. Walking uphill, you can feel the muscular effort demanded of your legs and the energy that pleasantly animates your whole body. The path is now ending, and all you can see is rock. As you keep climbing, the ascent becomes more arduous; you now have to use your hands. You feel a sense of elevation; the air is getting fresher and more rarefied; the surroundings are silent. Now your climb brings you into a cloud. Everything is whitish, and you can see only the mist which envelops you. You proceed very slowly and carefully, just barely able to see your hands on the rock in front of you. Now the cloud dissolves, and you can see the sky again. Up here, everything is very much brighter. The atmosphere is extraordinarily clean, the colors of rock and sky are vivid, and the sun is shining. You are ready to move on. Climbing is easier now; you seem to weigh less, and you feel attracted to the top and eager to reach it. As you approach the very top of the mountain, you become filled with an increased sense of height. You pause and look around. You can see other peaks near and far, the valley in the distance, and in it a few villages. You are now on top of the mountain, on a vast plateau. The silence here is complete. The sky is a very deep blue. Far off, you see someone. It is a person, wise and loving, ready to listen to what you have to say and tell you what you want to know. He…first appears as a small, luminous point in the distance. You have noticed each other. You are walking toward each other, slowly. You feel the presence of this person, giving you joy and strength. You see this wise being's face and radiant smile and feel an emanation of loving warmth. You are now facing each other: you look into the eyes of [this person] You can talk about any problem, make any statement or ask any question you wish. Silent and attentive, you listen for the answer…”(by Piero Ferrucci “What We May Be” 145-147)

Sports journalism. It's certainly more than box scores. What does it tell us about the world and our places in it? This episode focuses on the role of sports journalism in shaping social interpretations of gender, place, and the meanings of winning, losing, and leaving it all on the field. In this episode, Patrick Ferrucci, Associate Professor and Associate Chair for Graduate Studies in the Department of Journalism at University of Colorado Boulder. His article, “Joining the Team,” focuses on discourse and paradigm repair by writers on The Athletic and challenges our assumptions of how sports journalists comment on their practices in a digital age. And Roxane Coche, Assistant Professor in the Department of Media Production, Management, and Technology at the University of Florida and also Associate Director of Sports Journalism and Communication, talks through her co-authored article, “Victory on their own terms.” That piece examines the function of American exceptionalism in coverage of women's sport, specifically in coverage of the U.S. women's national team's FIFA World Cup title in 2019.Text Featured in this Episode:Bell, T.
