This Pride month, the world is (almost) back! It's Pride weekend in my just-reopened hometown of Los Angeles, and the children... are... living! It’s an amazing feeling for most of the world to be able to dance, rejoice, and celebrate together again. Of course, it’s still not this way for everyone - and this past year has been filled with tremendous pain and loss - and yet, there have been so many silver linings and lessons learned from this pandemic year, along with the realization that tomorrow is not promised to any of us. As many of you know (and probably just as many of you don’t!) outside of my DJ/producer work, I work full-time at one of the largest LGBTQ social justice organizations in the U.S. Pride season is a busy time for us, and for me, it’s not all dance parties and celebrations. Pride was - and must always continue to be - a protest. The roots of our joy are interconnected with the long struggle of the fight for equality - something that so many in the LGBTQ community still have yet to fully achieve. Music is my creative outlet, and this year it’s my joy to share with you Stephen Jusko and I’s new remix of “Stronger” by Sam Feldt feat. Kesha, a track that we're sure will become a pride anthem for us for years to come. After having such an incredible summer, one can't help but to be grateful for all the good times that I have experienced through music. Looking through my music books, I found a group of music that focused around a private party in 2011.  It was intimate, hot and charged with spontaneity and excitement.  I tapped into that experience by releasing myself to crete what I think is the next best thing to being there. Formally unavailable, these private mixes and remixes have served me well. I leave to you what happens when we are "in the moment". What a crazy year 2012 has been. There have been many ups and downs this year. Even through hard times, having good friends and loved ones around, remind me how blessed I am to have such a great life. Many things to be thankful for, and looking forward to my 40's. Turning 40 tomorrow is a wonderful thing, and I hope 50 is even better. Many of the tracks have special meaning to me, some sample old tracks from my youth. Others have strong messages that hit home. 2012 has been a big growth for my production work, and look forward to what lies ahead. After finishing the Sun mix, I was definitely ready to dive into something darker and harder. Don't let the first part of this mix fool you -- it does start off somewhat smoother -- it is still not for the weak. I just had to ease you into it. Ha. I didn't comment on any specific tracks on the last mix (save Viola's song), but I do want to bring a few to your attention on this one. To start, there are a number of new remixes/remakes of oldies but goodies on here. I didn't plan it that way on purpose. If they were good at one point, there must have been a reason. I hope those that remember the originals will enjoy these new takes on them. One song that has really been under the dance radar (although it did appear on Billboard a few weeks) is Valeriya -- Wild (Bimbo Jones Vocal Mix). Yeah. I have worked out to this song a number of times over the last few weeks and it just makes me, well, Wild (hardy har har). It just has so much energy. Another one, including the back-story... DJ Demarko feat. Heather Leigh West - Drop A House (Razor & Guido Remix). Many will remember the song by The Tamperer feat. Maya - Feel It from 1998. What you may not know is Maya didn't sing that song at all. Heather, however, did sing it a few years earlier with Urban Discharge in 1994. She, according to an interview, did not even know this (what I will call) "remix" existed until a friend played it off a dance mix CD. They essentially lied that it was Maya's vocals. There was even a video to their song, with Maya lip synching Heather's (very different than Maya's) voice. Long story short, in order to essentially prove once and for all that it was her vocals, she recently re-recorded the song (which she sounds exactly the same). I intro it with a remake of The Jacksons - Can You Feel It, as The Tamperer song sampled it extensively in their "remix". The Razor & Guido remix actually use a very similar backbeat as well. I've been waiting to put Can You Feel It and Drop a House together for years and have finally got my chance. I will say that The Tamperer "remix" does bring back so many memories of my coming out, so this song does share a special place in my heart (even if it's lyrics are, ironically, very bitter). :-) One last comment regarding Safire - Exotique (Mike Rizzo Funk Generation Club Mix)... I love a lot of Mike's remixes, although they would typically not appear where I use it, at the particular point of this kind of mix (or perhaps in this kind of mix at all). This remix, however, just grabbed me out of nowhere. There is something about the smooth chord progressions and subtle building that just give me chills every time I listen. I've already e-mailed him to see if there may be a long, 12-minute mix I don't know about. If I were at a party, I would love it to be played at the exact point where I placed it. Love it. I will have to say, probably my favorite song on the entire mix. Here at Party Favorz, I don't take a break.okay, once in a while, but when it comes to serving up some of the freshest beats on the circuit, there's no time for disco naps, nor egg hunting.  This is the final edition of spring and boy oh boy is it a scorcher!  Starting off with Yinon's take on Deborah Cox's "Beautiful U R" which is an amazing prog mix that has a beautiful drop about 2/3 of the way in.  Deep, dark and haunting, this is truly an amazing song that is supposed to have a second set of mixes coming out soon.  In the meantime, Deborah also collaborated with Axwell, Steve Angello, Sebastian Ingrosso and Laidback Luke for the star-studded "Leave the World Behind" which will be featured in my upcoming System Edition; so be on the watch for that.  You may be scratching your head and wondering what the hell Acorn, I mean Akon is doing on this mix; especially since he's not a particular favorite of mine.  Because Tracy Young worked this song every which way but loose!  If you can get past the vocals, Tracy's "Monster Mix" is worth the price of admission.  I already mentioned Razor 'n' Guido in my last post, so just know their re-work of the classic "Drop a House" is HOT!  The Chriss Ortega mix of "My Life Would Suck Without You" had already appeared on my last BPM Edition, but is the only entry for this song that's worth the play.  I really expected more from Tommy Sunshine and Friscia and Lamboy, but they basically turned in a mix that Jason Nevins could have worked out had he been asked to mix the song.eh!  Then we've got the return of Depeche Mode and the elusive Peter Rauhofer mix currently only available as a promo.  Why they left it off the commercial release is beyond me, because Peter's mix is not only the best but smoldering.  I am a little concerned that David's vocals are not up to par, leaving one to wonder. We finally get some new mixes for Rihanna's "Breaking Dishes" and Ralphi, true to form, did not disappoint.  I liked the 'Soul Seekerz' mix well enough from the original remix album that was released in conjunction with "Good Girl Gone Bad", but this version brings it to life.  I just hope those are Chris' dishes she's breaking; in fact go ahead and bust his balls while you're at it.  Probably my biggest disappointment here is the Junior Vasquez take on "Please Don't Leave".  An absolutely beautiful song in its own right, I do believe he could have done better.  This mix isn't bad but would have been better served with the full vocals.  Sadly, P!nk's label didn't commission many mixes for this, though the Digital Dog mix (which appeared on my last BPM Edition) is still the best version and retains all the elements that make this song so moving.  One of the weirdest treats in this mix comes from Jipsta's "I Want Your Sex".  If you were thinking 'George Michael"', you thought right.  I always thought this song was ripe for a remake, but never in a million years did I think a hip-hop/rapper would re-do it.  All I can say is HELL YEAH!  This song rocks and is accompanied by a ton of excellent mixes.  I don't usually use Mike Rizzo except in the BPM mixes, but his slamming take warranted inclusion.  The Perry Twins in collaboration with Niki Haris turn in a really fun song and is considerably beefed-up mix by the Escape & Capello team, who are currently riding high with one club hit after another.  Another welcome surprise comes from Cevin Fisher.  After last year's remake of his classic "You Got Me (Burnin' Up)", Cevin dove right back in his bag of goodies and brought out another classic "The Freaks Come Out".   As with the last release, the mixes for this song are all stellar.  I went with the Prok & Fitch remix because they are one of the underground darlings in the house scene at the moment and deliver a very memorable grind for this song.  This is going to be HUGE! Capping off the mix, Nick Harvey delivers a tribal lover's dream with "Beat on the Drum" and the amazing Allan Natal take on  Luis Erre's "...

This weekend, the majority of Pride events will be taking place from coast to coast.  As such, it's fitting that I have my 3rd installment of my Pride Edition up and ready to go.  Get ready for some serious BIG, BAM, BOOM! in this mix.  I want to give a shout out and big thanks to DJ 7Up for sliding my a copy of the unreleased Manny Lehman mix of Lady GaGa's "Just Dance".  By substituting that song for something I considered ordinary and run of the mill, it took an outstanding mix and essentially made it excellent. Some of you may have noticed that the Beatport Pride Edition was a little shrill, especially at the beginning.  Considering that the songs were free, I can't complain too much.  However, I did go back and put it through Platinum Notes which analyzes the mix and then makes the necessary pitch and dynamic adjustments.  I don't use this software often, because it's not always dead on and can actually ruin individual songs.  If I encounter a problem with the original track, I generally prefer to do it myself.  Since this mix was a last-minute project, I did it the other way to save time and to finish up this mix.  I do believe any issues with the original sound quality have now been corrected. Speaking of which, the Allan Natal mix of Madonna's 'Give It 2 Me' is a 'private' mix that was not picked up by Warner.  As a result, there was no incentive for Allan to go back and do a final mixdown.  Much like the Collette and Basstoy tracks on the Beatport mix, it was very shrill.  So I went back and manually lowered the frequencies and corrected any pitch problems along with some other anomalies.  So, any complaints from people who don't ever contribute to this site and just download all the time will be ignored.  I'm not trying to be an asshole, but with almost 25,000 hits since November (when this site began) and over 10,000 downloads between Podbean and my 4shared account, you'd think people might be a little more appreciative, especially in the U.S.  You folks out in New Jersey, New York, Illinois, Florida, Alabama, Colorado, and Texas shouldn't be such strangers.  I see the same cities and states every week downloading the mixes, but never a peep out of you until something displeases you.  It would be nice to have you folks make some general comments and suggestions about what you like and/or dislike or as to how I can make this site better.  While this is only a suggestion, it would sure be nice to hear from you guys. While I'm at it, several people have emailed me requesting the cover art without the watermark.  Sorry folks, it ain't gonna happen.  In fact, starting in July, I will be adding my ID to all future mixes.  It's unfortunate and wasn't something I wanted to do, but a certain situation here locally made it a necessity.  I'd suggest that anyone who wants to pass off my hard work as their own, actually work harder at doing what I enjoy doing and start trying to improve your own skills.  Enough said. For those of you who aren't quite into this big room sound and were wondering where are all the fun, funky and camp songs?  No need to worry.  Next weeks final installment is all about feeling free, gay and happy!  It should probably be called 'Party Favorz TrackBack' mix since it contains all the fun songs that have been high on my gaydar since the beginning of the year.  Instead of a song here or there, you get it all in one mix.
