Enjoy this week's episode of Redolence Radio hosted by NY Dj & Producer SALIVA COMMANDOS. With great percussive tribal productions and Djing in that NY style, George Aponte aka Saliva Commandos is a rising star of the underground New York scene. Hello and welcome to episode 41 of The DJ B-12 Deep Acid House Experience. This show is for October of 2022. We have a very special show for you this month. This show is almost entirely oldskool first generation progressive house, along with trance, breaks, acid and techno all from the early to mid 1990's. I really want to thank everyone for the kind words and incredible feedback on the last show, number 40. It's such a beautiful thing hearing about people loving this music and have such fond memories of hearing this stuff back in the day. It's truly such an honor to play this stuff for you in 2022. For this month's show, I have dug even deeper than last month, and we go in much further. A lot of these tracks came from my personal record collection and a few are pretty rare. This has been one of my most challenging mixes yet to date, as a lot of these older tracks don't stay in time very well, so I put a lot of extra work and effort into this episode to bring you the absolute best show possible. The full Tracklist can be found everywhere, except Soundcloud, they don't provide enough space for these mega tracklists, but you can find it everywhere else such as Simplecast, Apple Podcast, Google Podcast and on my Facebook pages. This mix contains 75 tracks and a runtime of just over 3 hours! I hope you love it! Thank you for your support and listenership! If you enjoy these shows and want me to keep making them, please write a rating and review on my Facebook pages: DJ B-12 Deep Acid House Experience | Facebook and DJ B-12 | FacebookPlease listen, like, share, repost and comment on Soundcloud: Stream DJ B-12 music | Listen to songs, albums, playlists for free on SoundCloudPlease listen & Subscribe on these platforms: iTunes / Apple Podcast: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/dj-b-12-deep-acid-house-experience/id1465508866Google Podcast: https://podcasts.google.com/feed/aHR0cHM6Ly9mZWVkcy5zaW1wbGVjYXN0LmNvbS9hWmxtNV9BaQAudible/Amazon Podcast: https://www.audible.com/pd/DJ-B-12-Deep-Acid-House-Experience-Podcast/B08K569NQ6Simplecast: https://djb12deepacidhouseexperience.simplecast.com/Tunes, remixes and labels: The Spirit , Logic Records, Asli Tanriverdi, Sufi, Dollars 'n Fun, Doi-Oing, Open, Morgan King, Leftfield, OM Records, Dominion, Renaissance Mix, Whoop!, Marine Boy, 108 Grand, Shi-Take, Zoom Records, Quivver, A&M Records, Funkcyde, Dol Enjoy The Vocal, UMM, Jerusalem, King Solomon Dub, Way Out West, Deconstruction, Joi Cardwell, Deep Dish, Eightball Records, Surreal, Fathers of Sound, Whitelake Records, Rockhopper '94, S.C.A.M. Party Favorz is back with one of our bucket list items that move us from the Ultimate 90s House Classics into the millennium. I took a different approach to this series, which immediately becomes obvious with the title. First, I started with 1999 because it is possibly one of the best years in dance music history. Many of today's biggest hits have reworked samples that have been turned into massive anthems for a new generation of partygoers. Everything from the late Paul Johnson's "Get Get Down," "Lady (Hear Me Tonight) by Modjo," "9 PM (Til I Come)" by ATB to "Around the World (La La La La La) by ATC and "Blue (Da Ba Dee)" by Eifel 65 have been plucked from the dance music annals breathing new life into the originals. Heck, even our lady Bey's smash album "Renaissance" is packed with samples from bygone eras. The other thing you'll notice is that this first set spans 4 years. The millennium was a great time for the evolution of dance music from Progressive House which began in the mid-90s and exploded by the end of the decade, to Trance, Techno, Hard Dance, French House, Filtered House, Funky House, Electro House and music that combined elements of all these genres. Of course, the advancement of technology had a lot to do with the abundance of offerings but it was human ingenuity that pushed the boundaries of what House Music could be. Needless to say, it's difficult to focus on just the hits because there were so many memorable underground hits as well depending on where you lived and the bars you frequented. If you're looking for the big room progressive sounds by Hex Hector, Victor Calderone, Peter Rauhofer, Thunderpuss, Junior Vasquez, or Jonathan Peters — you're better off revisiting our Top Dance Songs of the Year series, which starts in 1996 but it's 1999 and beyond you're after. Frankly, 1999 needs to be expanded but I haven't gotten around to it. Equally, five out of the six DJs mentioned have their own Legacy series linked in this article. Depending on what decisions are made with the future of Party Favorz next year — I may go back and do a series with just the big room progressive house anthems featuring these DJs and others. That could be a lot of fun. However, for this series — they were not included. I wasn't sure how this would turn out but this and the upcoming volume 2 have been on repeat in my car for several weeks now as I worked out the final track selections and I'm pleasantly surprised. There is a good deal of House Music styles here with some more Progressive House as it got redefined along with some long-lost gems that even I had completely forgotten about. These sets are long but what's nice is that you'll be surprised with each turn within the set. For the House purest, I had long ago created the purer Millennial House Music Classics series. I'll likely wrap up this series with two sets of 2003 - 2006 and 2007 - 2010 sometime in January. For now, I invite everyone to take a journey with me to a not-so-distant past. It may make you feel old but honestly, if this is your scene — you were part of the cool kids. For our young listeners and aspiring DJs — there's a lot of inspiration contained within these sets. Frankly, you could drop most of these songs in any modern set and nobody would be any wiser. That's how good they are. Until the next time...ENJOY! Album: Millennial Dance Classics [1999 - 2002] Vol. 1 Genre: House Music, Progressive House, Funky House Year: 2022 Total Time: 04:09:53 1. Bob Sinclar - I Feel For You (Morillo Re-Edit) 2. Chili Hi Fly - Is It Love (Chris & James Remix) 3. Joey Negro feat. Taka Boom - Must Be The Music (Club Mix) 4. Basement Jaxx - Red Alert (Erick Morillo & Harry 'Choo Choo' Romero Vocal Mix) 5. Paul Johnson - Get Get Down (Choo Choo's Subliminal Mix) 6. Black Legend - You See The Trouble With Me (We'll Be In Trouble Extended Mix) 7. Robbie Rivera - The Hum Melody (Original Mix) 8.

Madonna month continues with The Ultimate Dance Collection Volume 2 and this one is a whopper! We've got a lot of ground to cover, so let's get right to it. First off, you may be scratching your head and wondering why "Like A Prayer," "Express Yourself," "Keep It Together," and "Vogue" re-appear in this second volume. Simply put, the versions (except for "Vogue") on Volume 1 were the straight-up 80s dance versions. Before jumping into "Vogue," Madonna allowed Shep Pettibone to remix two of the biggest hits from her "Like A Prayer" album in the burgeoning House Music sound that was coming on strong in the underground dance music scene. While Shep's remixes are prevalent throughout the 80s, he was best known for the specific style that reflects the decade. I don't think he became a household name until his remix of New Order's "Bizzare Love Triangle" was re-released on their "Substance" album. Moving towards the House sound was Shep's way of adapting to the changing landscape. The synergy between Madonna and himself was one of many long-lasting relationships she built with DJs to fuel her music to wider audiences. It would have been blasphemy had I not included his versions of those songs that launched Madonna's movement into greater experimentation in her work. Not only did the 90s provide fertile ground for Madonna's creativity but opportunities for her to poke the eye of the Christian right. "The Immaculate Collection," a collection of her greatest 80s hits included her 1990 #1 "Vogue" and two new tracks "Justify My Love" (written by Lenny Kravitz) and "Rescue Me." The video for "Justify My Love" was so provocative and controversial at the time that MTV would only air it after midnight. It was also the first video VHS to sell over a million copies. Soon after, Madonna dug her heels into House Music, Trip Hop, and Electronica bringing William Orbit on board — a move that would be pivotal by mid-decade. She simultaneously released "Erotica" along with an exquisite coffee table book titled "Sex," which went on to sell 1.5 million copies. The book contained soft pornographic imagery and sadomasochistic acts that ruffled a lot of feathers at the time of its release and had a massive social and cultural impact that's lasted to this day. She took a lot of heat from fans and critics alike and frankly didn't give a fuck. She would later address the criticism in "Human Nature" the fourth single released from "Bedtime Stories." Controversies aside, the 90s (into the early Millennium) represented two phases of Madonna in which this set could have easily been split in half. For creative purposes, the decision was made to let it evolve from one end to the other. The Shep Pettibone era gave way to William Orbit who transcended Junior Vasquez and ultimately gave way to Victor Calderone and Peter Rauhofer (who would later go on to be important staples of Madonna's dancefloor rule). This was no easy feat for me to tackle, which is one of the main reasons why I took so much time off before releasing these sets. For the most part, I allowed these songs to flow as they were originally intended with a few exceptions. There's no doubt that Junior Vasquez was a brilliant DJ, producer, and remixer. However, not unlike some of his contemporaries at the time (David Morales, Tony Moran, and Frankie Knuckles) — he tended to go off into the wilderness in his drops or even his intros to the point that sometimes they felt disconnected from the source material. Consequently, "Bedtime Story" received a course correction and was edited down for clarity. "Secret" was as well but to a lesser extent where the drop was cut in half by overlapping two segments giving it a bit more purpose in the overall landscape of the song. The same was done with "Human Nature" because Danny Tenaglia dragged his otherwise brilliant Human Club Mix a bit longer than necessary. Otherwise, any editing in these songs was strictly minor and generally unnoticeable.
In this episode we welcome dynamic duo Bill Brewster and Frank Broughton to Hammersmith as they prepare for the publication of a newly expanded edition of their mighty Last Night a DJ Saved My Life.Bill and Frank talk about the original mission behind the book, as well as their different routes into dance music. They recall how they met and combined forces in '90s New York, where DJs such as Frankie Knuckles and Junior Vasquez proved transformative figures. Co-host Mark recalls seeing Bill and Frank DJ'ing at Fabric in 2000 and then reading the original edition of Last Night…Recalling their first articles for Mixmag in the '90s, the DJ History duo reminisce about the late Dom Phillips, the magazine's former editor who was so brutally murdered in the Amazon this month. They praise the courage Dom showed in confronting Brazilian president Jair Bolsonaro and exposing the criminal gangs behind much of the Amazon's deforestation.Bill and Frank discuss the process of researching and writing Last Night…, barely knowing if figures such as Bronx hip hop legend were even still alive, and explain what turned clubs like Larry Levan's Paradise Garage into "religious" experiences. The week's new audio interview – Bill and Frank's own 2005 quizzing of drum and bass legend Fabio – proves infectiously enjoyable as they hear themselves asking the Brixton-born DJ about Crackers and Spectrum. The episode concludes with thoughts on Elvis Presley and the new biopic made by Baz Luhrman, after which Mark talks us through library pieces he's added about Bill Haley (1957), Billie Holiday (1959) and Buffalo Springfield (1968), while Jasper concludes proceedings with quotes from pieces about Kanye West (2016) and Arlo Parks (2019).Many thanks to special guests Bill Brewster and Frank Broughton. The new edition of Last Night a DJ Saved My Life is published by White Rabbit and available to pre-order now.Pieces discussed: House, Rave, DJ Kool Herc, Dom Phillips, Fabio audio, Elvis, Comeback Special, Elvis and Black Music, Billie Holiday, Bob Dylan, James Brown, Bob Marley, Bill Haley, Buffalo Springfield, Kanye West and Arlo Parks.

The original set was updated so that the Josh Harris remix of 'Proud' by Heather Small was switched out for the original remix by Illicit and the transition from 'We Are Family' by Sister Sledge was pushed out by 15 seconds for a smoother transition. We have finally reached the end of the Ultimate Gay Anthems & PRIDE Classics series and this fifth volume does not disappoint. I cannot begin to describe how difficult it is compiling and mixing this massive series. The decision process alone determining which songs make the cut and those that get left behind is a painful process. So, if there's anything you feel is missing — it'll likely make an appearance on the forthcoming Essential Gay Anthems For A New Generation set(s) I have planned for next week. I've been syphoning new remixes for songs that will be included and placing them into their own special folder and will collect our favorites since the original series began and compile everything into possibly two massive sets. For this final set, which represents a very specific time period between the 90's and say the first 15 years of the millennium with updated classics from those periods as welll as the 80's — I want to recognize the DJs that have not only filled our lives with so much joy but enriched them with their mastery and midas touch when it comes to reworking other artists. Over the course of this 5-set journey, the bulk of the biggest names have already been reconized in our Legacy series, which honors the work of not only the living but the deceased members of this elite community. It's no wonder that Hex Hector, Junior Vasquez, Ralphi Rosario, Tony Moran, Freemasons, Almighty, 7th Heaven, DJ Barry Harris, Thunderpuss, Victor Calderone, Toy Armada & DJ Grind, Wayne G and Jonathan Peters make up the bulk of what's presented here. No other DJs have contributed so much to our happiness and for that — we are most grateful for the joy they've brought to our lives. Keep in mind that while this series is a pretty fucking big deal and massive in scope and size — in no way does it discount or relegates artists, DJs and allies to the LGBTQ+ community not mentioned or represented in this series any less worthy. We worship them all and if I've left someone out — please accept my deepest apologies. I'll be back next week. Until then...ENJOY! Party Favorz is officially kicking off the 2022 Gay Pride season early with volume one of the Ultimate Gay Anthems & PRIDE Classics series. These sets are a massive update to the original Gay Pride Classics sets that were originally released in 2014 (It Get's Better, Love Sensation, True Colors, Together Again & We Are Family). This and the forthcoming volumes primarily focus on gay anthems that were released in the 90s through the first half of the millennium. As far as Party Favorz is concerned, this is the golden age of club music with so many entries for inclusion it was painful to drop just one song. However, there are some newer songs that go past that timeline that have become staples in the Gay Pride arsenal as well. The majority of newer anthems will be included in the upcoming 'Ultimate Gay Anthems For A New Generation' release scheduled for later in the month. Since the original release, there has been a glut of remixes for instantly recognizable classics who's original version didn't quite fit in with the overall flow of this release so we went with the updated versions. To be certain, this is not the same series as the original releases. Barry Harris and Dirty Disco have been the main contributors who have preserved and modernized many of our favorite gay anthems. Speaking of which, you're going to find a hefty dose of other legends like Hex Hector, Junior Vasquez, Ralphi Rosario, Freemasons, Victor Calderone, Wayne G, Almighty and 7th Heaven amongst the many songs included here. Over the years, we've had a lot of calls for the creation of a best of the Diva Hall of Fame. While there are currently no plans to create such a series because it's a bit redundant — consider these final Gay Anthem releases to be just that. The tracklist alone on this series reads like a who's who of our favorite divas who've been inducted into the Hall of Fame including those one or two-hit wonders that never went beyond the kind of recognition they rightfully deserved. You will notice in this initial tracklist a little something, something by one our personal favorites K.D. Lang. The one solid remix missing from her induction into the Diva Hall of Fame was a great remix of 'Constant Craving.' I don't want to speak ill of the person who did the remix that was included in the release but it was really bad and there weren't any other options at the time of its release. Enter the fabulous legendary Tracy Young. It appears Tracy created a remix of 'Constant Craving' in late 2021 after the release of our Diva Series, which may be updated to include it later this year and can be purchased here for diehard fans. I could go on and on about how much fun this set was creating and all the headaches entailed in working in a diverse setlist like this but that would only suck the joy out of listening to it. If you enjoy this as much as we did making it — that's all that matters because there's more to come. Until the next time...ENJOY! Anthony "Tony" Moran is a DJ, record producer, remixer, singer and songwriter known for remixing popular songs. In 2007, he hit number one on the U.S. Billboard Hot Dance Club Play chart twice with "Walk Away" featuring Kristine W and "Keep Your Body Working" featuring Martha Wash. Moran also has a total of seven number one hits on the Billboard Dance Club Songs music charts in the United States and he has recently had four number one Billboard chart hits in the years 2016 and 2017.[1] As a remix producer, Moran has remixed work from top music artists including Janet Jackson, Madonna, George Michael, Mariah Carey, Whitney Houston, Celine Dion, Gloria Estefan, Deborah Cox, Cher, Kristine W and many others. This first set focuses solely on his 90's work when he was the guy you called when you couldn't get David Morales, Junior Vasquez or Hex Hector on the phone. By the mid-millennium after Hex Hector dropped out of the scene and Morales and Vasquez weren't enjoying the success they previously held, Tony Moran's star began to shine even brighter. He slipped into this gap and much of his work with either Jody Den Broeder and Warren Rigg produced some of the most iconic remixes of a generation. That's not to say his 90's output was mince meat because his productions and remixes were impeccable and even though they closely resembled the work of all three DJs above to fit what he was working on — they were uniquely his own. His remix of Celine Dion's "My Heart Will Go On" is quite possibly one for the record books with its big ass tribal beats and high energy synths — the remix was every gay boy's wet dream. Moran was channeling Hex Hector better than the man himself with that remix. Tony Moran would go on to release his own albums featuring some of the biggest divas on the planet, which were major events (pun intended) in themselves. They would generate massive club hits that soaked the world's dancefloors in man sweat. He was a fixture on the circuit scene and his world tours drew massive crowds making him one of the first superstar DJs (next to Tiesto) to capitalize on his name. Tony has had a long and productive career that continues to generate massive #1 Billboard Dance Club hits for Jason Walker and Martha Wash to this day. It is with much love and admiration for a man who got his start doing exactly what I used to do by creating mixtape edits back in the day that Party Favorz honors the multi-talented Tony Moran into our exclusive Legacy series. ENJOY! Salme Dahlstrom The Phantom Electric Ghost Interview 2021 Edited BIO The Wall Street Journal dubbed musician Salme Dahlstrom a “savvy singer” and “music licensing queen” when, like Moby before her, she managed to license every track from her 2008 album The Acid Cowgirl Audio Trade to various corporations and television programs. At the time, Dahlstrom was not only just getting noticed, she was just getting started. “C'mon Y'All”, one of catchiest numbers on an album of catchy numbers climbed Billboard's Dance Chart and eventually received prominent placements in major ad campaigns for CoverGirl, Suave, and Kellogg's that ran on primetime network television for months. Trust us, you know this song! While managing what inevitably became a highly successful licensing business, Dahlstrom continues to do the work that got her there, releasing music - funky, hooky and fun; the kind of songs that you hear once and then can't get out of your head. After the success of The Acid Cowgirl Audio Trade Dahlstrom released a dance single, So Delicious, that made it all the way into Top10 on the Billboard Dance Chart and featured a remix by her hero Junior Vasquez. A 3 EP/album collection titled Pop Propaganda followed featuring titles such as Lux Punk and Pop Ur Heart Out. The albums garnered great reviews from the likes ofEntertainment Weeklywho called Dahlstrom's music "relentlessly hooky and ridiculously accessible" and many of the songs were successfully licensed to ad campaigns (eos lip balm, Saks 5th Avenue) TV shows and movies. -“My commitment when it comes to creating music is and has always been to have fun and stir some s**t up, start a fire and then walk right through it”, Dahlstrom says slyly. “Because after all, if you don't have fun then what do you have?” New YouTube video “Pop ur heart out” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u1teNTlUEXw LinkTree https://linktr.ee/Tacatgrrl Newsly Newsly is an audio app for IOS and Android. Party Favorz started the Ultimate 90's House Classic series in the fall of 2020. The overwhelming response to this series has been tremendous — certainly bigger than I thought it would be. A year later, we're now reaching the end of the decade and have pulled out all the stops for what is certainly considered the golden age of House Music. As we noted in earlier editions, the musical landscape began changing in the second half of the decade. After bubbling in the underground for several years before moving into the mainstream, Trance music took on a life of its own. While those tracks are not featured in this series (they'll get their own ultimate classics series soon enough) — Progressive House was the alternate powerhouse genre in the movement fueled by Hex Hector, Victor Calderone, Thunderpuss, Jonathan Peters, Peter Rauhofer (a.k.a. Club 69), Danny Tenaglia, Rosabel, Razor N Guido, Pablo Flores, Junior Vasquez and Johnny Vicioius who blurred the lines between Progressive House and Trance. Probably one of the biggest unsung heroes from this time period is Soul Solution who consisted of Bobby Guy and Ernie Lake. These guys were the go to for many commercial remixes and there's a story there that I can't seem to dig up so I'll just go by what I remember. Don't hold this as gospel because I'm only going by what I remembered. Maybe someone else can shed more light on this story. Soul Solution was their brand but if I remember correctly, the trademark was owned by a major label. When they attempted to leave the label, they weren't allowed to take the name with them. Since their brand was built under this name, it was near impossible to market themselves independently. Though, Ralphi Rosario from Rosabel managed to break out on his own as did Chris Cox from Thunderpuss and Guido Osorio from Razor N Guido but Bobby Guy and Ernie Lake were not household names. It's likely why Hex Hector (who had worked with the guys on the breakthrough remix of Toni Braxton's "Un-break My Heart" in 1996) picked up the slack in the coming years even though he was already in high demand. You'll likely remember a lot of their remixes but less so who remixed them. Party Favorz is here to set the record straight as much of their work will be featured over the next several sets. The major change in club music was no accident but something that was in the making for the better half of the decade and is fondly remembered by club kids (including myself) with 1999 through maybe 2001 being the best the genre servered up. As musical tastes changed, Progressive House eventually gave way to Electro House — another genre that came up through the underground. From some of the more obscure tracks, the biggest club hits including that whole short-lived Ibiza sound — TU90HC has got you covered. I had a lot of fun creating this first set and was taken back by Monifah's "Touch Me," which I had completely forgotten about. There will be a lot of these gems over these remaining sets that are gonna jog your memory and put a smile on your face. Until the next time...ENJOY! TRUE HOUSE STORIES W/ BRUCE FOREST # 045 - PART 2 Bruce Forest apart from the other DJ's of that time. He was very scientific in how he approached everything that he used multiple sound sources such as Keyboards, samplers, drum machines and effect units to remix records live in the club. At Better Days Disco this is were he meets David Cole who regularly played the keyboards live alongside Bruce as he DJ'd. Bruce and the club was hugely responsible for breaking some of the first house tracks to come out from Steve Silk Hurley around 1983, which was way ahead of its time before other clubs and DJ's even picked up on them. Learn about how Bruce met his beloved wife Mitzy who he has been happily married to. Bruce shares the story of the recording of Loleatta Holloway from her live performance at the club and how the tape was stolen, copied and how Junior Vasquez released it as Ellis D. Steve Silk Hurley, Francois Kevorkian, and David Morales were such inspirations to Bruce. Bruce eventually leaves the music industry and turns his sights to the internet in the early 1990s and helped developed brands such as Netflix, Vimeo and the internet. This man is a true legend so catch the show to hear all about Bruce Forest's journey. Tune in to find out why...
It's always a sigh of relief when I finish one of these epic anthologies and I'm happy with the final product. Volume four of the Ultimate 90's House Classics showcases the splintering of the genre and how more progressive versions of House Music were suddenly taking over dance floors. Club 69 (a.k.a. Peter Rauhofer) who was generally a sexy house music production geared toward gay audiences, changed musical directions quite rapidly. Eventually, the productions became more progressive and frenetic, which would drive peak hour crowds into a tizzy. Club 69 hit it big with remixes for Funky Green Dogs "Fired Up" and Kevin Aviance "Din Da Da" amongst many others during this period. At the same time, Tony Moran, Junior Vasquez, Victor Calderone, Ralphi Rosario and Hex Hector were beefing up their sound while making it more palatable to a mainstream audience giving the genre and even further reach. This is not to say the House Music in its purest form wasn't still king as evidenced by the multitude of #1 club songs included in this final set. But, this new sound was embarking on something much bigger that would eventually takeover not only the charts but dance floors in the coming years. Everyone found their place or shall I say true calling as a DJ and no longer were these guys just a DJ, two turntables and a microphone (thank you Beck). They were stars in their own right that could pack a venue. Perhaps the biggest contributor to their stardom was none other than Clive Davis of Arista records. He saw not just in terms of financial but the need to expand his diva roster's reach into the world of dance and by extension their popularity. After all, where would Deborah Cox be today if it weren't for him pushing her in both angles of R&B and Dance extending her visibility across boundaries. While Party Favorz enjoys all the various genres and tribute sets I put out from Trash Disco, 80's Dance, Eurodance and Trance — I have the most affinity with House Music and its various iterations. The Ultimate 90's House Classics series is dear to my heart. While this series is far from the last word on House Music (as there's just way too much to be included even if the artists and songs deserve it) — it's likely the closest you'll ever find in a comprehensive history of the genre. We still have two more years to go with 1998 - 1999, which are bound to bring back some fond memories for many of you. I'm not certain as to when I'll be dropping those but likely sometime in the summer or no later than early fall. I still have the Ultimate Trance series I've been teasing that I want to get out by the end of the year as well. Until then...ENJOY! Earlier in the decade, Freestyle, Breakbeat, Trip Hop, Hip Hop and Eurodance were all offshoots of House music that went on to be fused together or evolved into their own distinct categories. More notably, the second half of the nineties witnessed a sea change in House music. While Classic House continued to be a staple on dance floors — the sound became more progressive, electronic and tribal as club culture began looking for something fresh and new. Enter Club 69 (Peter Rauhofer), Thunderpuss, Victor Calderone, Tony Moran, Hex Hector, Jonathan Peters, Soul Solution, Rosabel (Ralphi Rosario), Razor N' Guido, Vission & Lorimer and a host of others. The one consistent in this area was Junior Vasquez who easily switched between edgy commercial House and the big tribal beats that would eventually claim the dance floor. In fact, it took the Soul Hex remix (Soul Solution + Hex Hector) of Toni Braxton's "Un-Break My Heart" for the labels to take notice after it exploded all over the dance floor. For the sake of this series — the excellent Frankie Knuckles version was included on volume one of this series. That being said, this new style of music steadily became more dominant that it begins to take over this four volume series and explodes by 1998 - 1999. Other notable mentions in this period are Full Intention, StoneBridge and Love To Infinity who developed a tougher house sound that was commercially appealing and Armand Van Helden with his signature garage house style that sometimes veered into other worlds. The other offshoot that exploded was Trance. Trance had been bubbling in the underground with rave parties that were popular in the UK in the early nineties and eventually found their way over to the US. That's an entirely separate category and will be prominently featured in its own tribute later this year. Just know that many of the big names in Trance started out as house DJs. Rollo & Sister Bliss, Perfecto, Sash! and BT were all making house music prior to jumping over to this genre where they found massive success. After finishing volume two — I've decided to re-visit some of the earlier Legacy entries like Frankie Knuckles, Peter Rauhofer, Thunderpuss and Hex Hector. The original sets feel incomplete and can certainly be improved upon. I'd also like to incorporate more Club 69 remixes into Peter's tribute set since the moniker was key to his overall success. Those are being considered for a much future date as I got a lot on my plate at the moment. In the interim, soak in this heavenly slice of House music history and be sure to turn it the fuck UP! I should have volume three out on Saturday or Sunday and the final fourth volume for this period sometime next week. Until then...ENJOY! Album : The Ultimate 90's House Classics [1996 – 1997] Vol. 2 Genre : 90's Classic House Year : 2021 Total Time : 3:06:16 1. Jamiroquai - Cosmic Girl (David Morales Remix) 2. Chaka Khan feat. Party Favorz finally made it through the Ralphi Rosario Legacy series, which I overestimated its depth and ended up expanding to three volumes. Even then, there were a lot of great tracks I was loathe to leave on the cutting room floor but when compiling these tribute sets to legends that have been in the business as long as Ralphi has — you have to edit. Volume 2 picks up where we left off with some of his greatest work from over the years including last year's massive "RITMO" by Black Eyed Peas & J Balvin. The hits are included and the one y'all are really looking for will make an appearance on volume 3 (you know what I'm talking about). The goal here is to not only showcase the hits but a lot of the underground and lesser known tracks that were popular in the underground peak hour scene. Nevermind that he and Rosabel have done extensive work with Latin artists providing musical touch that only they could master (next to Pablo Flores, Tony Moran and to some extent Hex Hector and Junior Vasquez) so I did touch on some of those tracks throughout these sets. Overall, there's a great deal of diversity spread throughout these three sets. For those only familiar with the more commercial side of Ralphi Rosario — you're in for a pleasant surprise. I'll be back on Saturday with the final volume. Until then...ENJOY! I'll be back on Saturday with the final volume. Until then...ENJOY! Moving along with volume 2 of the Ultimate 90's House Classics [1994 - 1995] — we find ourselves in familiar territory with some of the most iconic House Music tracks of the decade. I'm a huge fan of N'Dea Davenport and her work with the Brand New Heavies, which is represented here as well as her solo offerings in the coming years. In my book, she's fairly equal in status along with Adeva and Barbara Tucker as these ladies ruled with their soulful offerings. One of my minor nitpicks is with David Morales and to a lesser extent C + C Music Factory and Junior Vasquez. Whether it was from friendship, loyalty or upon the insistence of Columbia Records, Mariah Carey frequently went back into the studio to re-record the vocals for Morales turning her songs into a take me to church revival that lost the meaning of the original song. Nowhere is this more obvious than on "Anytime You Need a Friend." I was in hibernation during this period but I find it difficult to believe that that remix wouldn't have cleared any floor. It's just too long, laborious and frankly tiring. I felt compelled to edit down the 11+ minute behemoth to a manageable 8 minutes but still... Generally, these DJs would drop the groove in-between the gospel but on this song... it just never materializes. At least on "Pride (A Deeper Love)" by Aretha Franklin, Clivillés and Cole worked a deep groove throughout the track that kept song moving along. Not so on AYNAF. Thankfully, Morales manages to work it all out by the time he gets a shot at the epic "My All," which oddly enough — only reaches #3 on the dance charts. Go figure. Of course, no compilation would be complete without the Bucketheads (Kenny "Dope" Gonzalez) "The Bomb! (These Sounds Fall Into My Mind)" and "Magic Carpet Ride" by the Might Dub Katz (Norman Cook and GMoney), which were massive crossover hits from the dancefloor to radio. I'm currently working on the final volume for the two-year series where some of the house music begins to get harder and more progressive and the beginnings of Trance start coming into view without diving head on. Though, there were already underground tracks that were leading the movement at this time. Nevertheless, these songs remain grounded firmly in the House Music sphere much like Donna Summer's "I Feel Love" remained in the Discosphere at the time of its release. Speaking of which... You can expect volume three to drop early next week before we get into our current sets. Until then...ENJOY! This installment celebrates some of the decade's Classic House Tracks that still resonate today. A highlight for me is N'Dea Davenport's contributions, both with the Brand New Heavies and her upcoming solo work. Alongside Adeva and Barbara Tucker, these powerhouse vocalists defined the era with their soulful melodies, placing them on a level that few could reach. However, it's not all praise for this period. I have some reservations, particularly concerning David Morales and, to some extent, C + C Music Factory and Junior Vasquez. The Morales collaboration with Mariah Carey, like the take-me-to-church revival of "Anytime You Need a Friend," feels misguided. It extended the track unnecessarily, losing the essence of the original piece. The 11-minute epic needed trimming to an 8-minute version, but even then, it feels laborious. These DJs typically blend the gospel with groove, but on this track, the energy never seems to ignite. "Pride (A Deeper Love)" by Aretha Franklin, expertly mixed by Clivillés and Cole, kept the song moving with a deep groove, something lacking in "Anytime You Need a Friend." Thankfully, Morales found his stride with the mix of "My All," although it surprisingly peaked only at #3 on the dance charts. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UJmPsTz9Ocg This volume of Iconic 90s Dance Hits wouldn't be complete without mentioning crossover hits like the Bucketheads (Kenny "Dope" Gonzalez) "The Bomb! (These Sounds Fall Into My Mind)" and "Magic Carpet Ride" by the Mighty Dub Katz (Norman Cook and GMoney). Both these tracks bridged the gap between dance floors and radios, epitomizing the influence of 90s House Music. As I curate the final volume of this two-year series, the progression towards harder house and the emergence of Trance are evident. Still, the tracks remain loyal to the House Music sphere, reminiscent of how Donna Summer's "I Feel Love" stayed true to the Discosphere during its release era. Stay tuned for volume three of the Ultimate 90s House Classics 1994 - 1995, dropping next week, as we keep reliving the Iconic 90s Dance Hits that shaped our musical culture. We've moved into the mid-nineties with the Ultimate 90's House Classics series which focuses on the years 1994 through 1995. One of the things you'll notice is that the infusion of Hip Hop with House Music drops off significantly as each genre goes its own way. However, we start to see the emergence of Trance into the mainstream that moves from its infancy into mainstream but isn't quite there yet. Tracks by Opus III, Deep Forest and Josh Wink give us a hint as to what's to come while still incorporating all the elements of House. Oakenfold and Rollo & Sister Bliss are still knocking out big room House tracks before changing directions that elevate them to household status. While these tracks are included in this series — the full-on Trance classics will be preserved for a refresh later this year. At this point, Soulful House (think MAW, Frankie Knuckles, David Morales C + C Music Factory) and more commercial House music (Love To Infinity, Stone(Bridge), Brothers In Rhythm, Roger Sanchez) along with underground big room tracks (Junior Vasquez, Tony Moran, Armand Van Helden) dominate this period. In the coming years, Big Room goes even BIGGER and takes over the clubs. I really enjoy putting together these time capsules because it gives me the opportunity to showcase tracks that were massive back in the day but for whatever reason — have fallen into a blackhole of people's memories. While this series is not the last word on House Music during this period — it's likely the closest anyone has ever attempted at curating and compiling this awesome era of music from which everything you listen to today has sprung. I'll be back later this weekend with volume two of this series. Until then...ENJOY! This era marked a significant transformation, introducing Classic House Tracks that are still admired today. As we moved into the mid-90s, the interplay between Hip Hop and House Music began to fade, each genre charting its distinct path. However, the era was far from mundane; the budding Trance genre started teasing the mainstream, artists like Opus III and Josh Wink paving the way. Legends like Oakenfold and Rollo & Sister Bliss were creating waves with big room House tracks, setting the stage for their eventual renowned status. Old School House Music during this time was filled with Soulful House legends like MAW, Frankie Knuckles, and David Morales. Commercial House music was flourishing with remixers like Love To Infinity, StoneBridge, Brothers In Rhythm, and Roger Sanchez. Underground sensations like Junior Vasquez, Tony Moran, and Armand Van Helden were crafting Big Room tracks that would soon conquer the club scene. Unveiling this series is akin to opening a musical time capsule, filled with the Best 90s House Remixes that once ruled the dance floors but have since vanished from the collective memory. For instance, the "Beautiful People" mixed by C.J. became a timeless hit for Barbara Tucker. Aretha Franklin's "A Deeper Love," remixed by C + C Music Factory, symbolizes the era's profound emotions. Tracks like the Love To Infinity's Classic Paradise Club Mix of Judy Cheeks' "As Long As You're Good To Me" or the MAW Style Mix of "Everybody Be Somebody" by Ruffneck feat. Yavahn represent the artistic brilliance of the time. Junior Vasquez's Soundfactory Mix of "Your Loving Arms" by Billie Ray Martin captures the innovative spirit of the 90s Club Anthems. The Ultimate 90s House Classics series is not just a collection; it's a heartfelt tribute to an incredible era that shaped today's music landscape. It revives the 90s Club Anthems, like the Junior Vasquez 10.31 Mix of "Keep In Touch (Body To Body)" by Shades Of Love, which once pulsated through speakers around the world. Volume two of the Ultimate 90s House Classics from 1994-1995 is arriving soon. Until then, let these Old School House Music tracks transport you back to a time when dance floors were alive with energy and passion. Until the next time...ENJOY!
