Safire is pioneering advanced electrification solutions for defense applications, transforming how military operations are powered in austere environments. With $11 Million in funding and over $7 million in government contracts secured just this year, Safire is developing revolutionary technology to make batteries safer and more efficient for defense applications. In this episode of Category Visionaries, I spoke with John Lee, CEO and Founder of Safire, to learn about the company's journey from a core nanoparticle technology to a full suite of defense electrification products that are changing how soldiers operate in the field. Topics Discussed: Safire's revolutionary silicon nanoparticle technology that transforms lithium-ion batteries into "non-Newtonian fluids" that solidify upon impact The company's evolution from core R&D to developing multiple defense products, including tactical electric dirt bikes, battery-infused body armor, and deployable microgrids The process of securing government contracts and navigating defense appropriations The importance of building relationships with end users in the military and understanding their needs John's background as a Navy contracting officer and former head of government contracts at Palantir Safire's approach to brand development as part of their path to becoming a unicorn GTM Lessons For B2B Founders: Put mission first to attract talent and customers: John's commitment to protecting lives became his driving force after his experience procuring counter-IED jammers that saved soldiers' lives. He explains, "I couldn't really do anything besides, whatever I do, I want to help protect and save lives." This clear mission has helped him attract talent, customers, and investors who share this vision, demonstrating how a compelling purpose can accelerate GTM efforts. Listen to customer needs before defining your product roadmap: Rather than forcing a single-product strategy, Safire let customer requirements guide their development. As John noted, "We really focused on customer first. And if the customer said, I want you to be just one product company... that may have been okay. But that's not what the customer was asking for." By building solutions to address real military needs, Safire has secured multiple contracts across different applications. Use government R&D contracts as a runway to production: Safire strategically leveraged Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) contracts to fund their early development while creating a path to larger production contracts. John advises, "It's really important to understand... all the effort it takes to go from the R&D contract into production into program of record and [to] prepare for it." He warns against the "if I build it they'll come" mentality that leads many startups to fail. Invest in lobbying early for long-term ROI: The company prioritized hiring lobbyists immediately after raising their seed round. John revealed, "The $4.5 million contract that we just got awarded last month came from our lobbying efforts... from two and a half years ago. And that was the very first third-party payment I was making as soon as we raised our seed round." This demonstrates how early investment in government relations can deliver substantial returns for defense tech companies. Brand sophistication matters in defense tech: Breaking with industry norms, Safire invested significantly in professional branding before their Series A. John explains this decision: "Every unicorn status company had a great brand before they became a unicorn status company... When we're walking through four-star generals and three-star generals into our offices, into our skiffs... we want to be trusted and we also want to be seen as a sophisticated, responsible contractor." This approach has helped them stand out in an industry where branding is often neglected. // Sponsors: Front Lines — We help B2B tech companies launch, manage, and grow podcasts that drive demand, awareness, and thought leadership. www.FrontLines.io The Global Talent Co. — We help tech startups find, vet, hire, pay, and retain amazing marketing talent that costs 50-70% less than the US & Europe. www.GlobalTalent.co

Michael Clarage, PhD, Astrophysicist and Lead Scientist of SAFIRE, explains how we could not have organic life without cells, chemicals, light, electricity, or the ecosystems of the Earth and Sun—all levels of the hierarchy communicate and exchange energy. Mr. Clarage studies the moon, sun, stars and Planets and says they are all connected, all interconnected with humans as well. While not giving a definite yes, he thinks it is quite possible the moon is not solid when Patrick asked him the question regarding the nature of the moon. He is adamant About NASA's contention that the moon is lit up by the sun is preposterous and the moon has it's own light. He says science in all fields learn dogmatic ideas and they just can't let go of these theories taught in Universities and grad schools He agreed with Patrick when he suggested the mind is other than physical and was curious why science doesn't want to consider anything they can't see. Clarage shows on a white board how all celestial bodies have a toroidal field that spreads out magnetically throughout the universe as does the human body We are, human, electrical beings. Our cells communicate with the entire body through electrical impulses and light Clarage explains on a white board exactly why all EMF exposure is harmful and how it actually damages the tissues in the body. No doubt that the energy from the moon affects all life, everywhere

As the Apollo 11 astronauts hurtled towards the moon on July 18th, 1969, members of the Nixon administration realized they should probably make a contingency plan. If the astronauts didn't make it – or, even more horrible, if they made it to the moon and crashed and had no way to get back to earth – Richard Nixon would have to address the nation. That haunting speech was written but fortunately was never delivered. But you can go to the Museum of the Moving Image in New York City and watch Nixon somberly reciting those words. It looks like real historic footage, but it's fake. Artists Francesca Panetta and Halsey Burgund used the text of the original address and media manipulation techniques like machine learning to create the synthetic Nixon for a film called In Event of Moon Disaster. It anchors an exhibit called Deepfake: Unstable Evidence on Screen. In this episode, Panetta and Burgund discuss how they created In Event of Moon Disaster as a way to highlight various misinformation techniques, the changing literacy of the general public towards media manipulation, and the effectiveness of misinformation in the museum medium. On today's show, we are joined once again by Dr. John Oddo, Associate Professor of English at Carnegie Mellon University, for a retrospective discussion of “War on Terror” rhetoric 20 years after September 11th, 2001. Ever since the 9/11 attacks, the U.S. government and national news media have consistently used Us and Them categories of enemy- and threat-construction, drawing on a conceptual metaphor of terrorism as an act of war (as opposed to a criminal act) to justify preventative military action. There have also been some notable shifts in U.S. war rhetoric in recent years: for one thing, references to September 11th as an inciting event have become scarcer as leaders have reframed the fight against global terrorism as an end in itself. And whereas earlier in the war, media and political figures tended to conflate specific terrorist organizations and so-called “state sponsors of terrorism”, they are now more likely to advocate a “targeted” approach: opposing large-scale troop deployments while nevertheless supporting missile attacks, special forces operations, cyberwarfare, and other forms of state violence. After John walks us through the material and social reasons for these continuities and shifts, we analyze specific examples of post-9/11 war propaganda, comparing Larry P. Goodson's November 2001 op-ed “U.S. Troops Must Go In” with Ryan Crocker's August 2021 “Why Biden's Lack of Strategic Patience Led to Disaster.” We examine their rhetorical strategies and discuss the greater implications of how some key tropes have evolved across texts and time: framing the war as a “clash of civilizations,” using the oppression of women and children as justificatory narratives, employing euphemisms like “patience” in foreign policy strategies, and zooming in on U.S. enemies' violence while eliding the violence done by our military and its allies.Lastly, we turn to a discussion of the ongoing drone war in the Middle East and Africa, in which we highlight John's new research project on media construals of drone strike victims. John concludes with a blistering critique of an enduring problem in U.S. political rhetoric: the metaphor of war deaths as “payments” for which we deserve some return, which obscures how inflicting suffering and killing is always an irrevocable moral act. Hey Identifier, Jared Alexander Thu, July 29, 2021, 9:36 AM·3 min read Fans have been calling Samuels out throughout the season for his behavior on the popular “Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta.” Safaree Samuels is not happy with the editors over at Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta. The reality TV personality is threatening to quit after a recent scene aired in which he appeared to laugh at his daughter falling over. In the scene from Love & Hop-Hop: Atlanta, Erica Mena is not too happy with Samuels' reaction to their daughter falling over. In the clip, the couple is sitting down and having a conversation when suddenly their daughter, Safire, falls and is seemingly entangled with a guitar. While they both instantly jump up, Mena immediately grabs the instrument while Safaree watches and laughs, leading to an intense exchange between the parents. #safaree #loveandhiphopAtlanta #guitar Leave us a Voice Mail or Support https://anchor.fm/the-identity-booth/message https://anchor.fm/the-identity-booth/support Sub to the channel here https://www.twitch.tv/theidentitybooth Donate https://streamlabs.com/projecteto/tip The Goal: Try to Identify with you as you try to Identify with me. Wal Thornhill is the co-founder of the Thunderbolts Project, co-author of both The Electric Universe and Thunderbolts of the Gods, & advisor to the SAFIRE project. Wal Thornhill got his degree in physics from Melbourne University. He says that much of his inspiration came from Immanuel Velikovsky’s book, Worlds in Collision. Wal was invited to attend one of Velikovsky’s conferences in Ontario in 1974, and he began to question the nature of gravity. His ideas have sparked the interest of scientists, engineers, and astronomers, and I expect that they will pique the interest of our listeners, as well. Enjoy!

During the last episode of Love & Hip-Hop Unlocked, Erica Mena claimed that her husband Safaree said that he doesn't want to have more children with her because she got too big while she was pregnant with their daughter Safire. So this triggered Super Producer Krista and she took it to the airwaves: how would you react if your man told you NO MORE KIDS, you GOT TOO FAT THE LAST TIME!
