It's Men's Health Week this week so the dads discuss what they do to look after both their mental and physical health as well as keeping themselves happy. The discussion (quite topically) gets on to football (soccer for you non-UK listeners) and the discussions get heated and before you know it, both have soaring blood pressure! Andy did a little "Artistic licencing" on this weeks task which needs to be seen to be believed - credit to him though, he fought his corner. Check out the @Dadtales Instagram account for the evidence there. The Dad's have asked if I can reiterate the importance of "checking in" with someone who you've not spoken to in a while. It might be something that really makes their day. be kind, be thoughtful and above always, keep smiling!!
This week we revisit our online event series ‘We Need To Talk About Mental Health' which we hosted back in November. If you like what you hear, these talks in full plus the rest of this event series is available for free over on our YouTube Channel: https://bit.ly/35sHmZH Thanks so much to our incredible guest. On this episode, we talked about: Putting ourselves in stressful mindsets, showing up in society, having confidence in yourself, having a positive outlook on life, prioritizing your health, acknowledging your emotions, doing past trauma healing, giving myself gratitude, finding your spiritual connection, taking yourself seriously and so much more! "We have chemicals that trigger emotions, and those chemicals are triggered by how we treat our body" "The types of food you're eating has an impact on what's going on in your body and in your testosterone levels" "Majority of men don't know what it's happening in their body and why they're feeling a certain way" Let's connect over on Instagram: @Johnny.Elsasser

This episode was inspired by Men's Health Week and gave Gerhard and I the opportunity to reflect on his experience with anxiety, depression and suicidal ideation. Gerhard shares his definition and belief of what masculinity is and how it has shaped the way he views mental health. Shit gets pretty emotional towards the end as we reflect on the friends and family we have lost to suicide. If you or someone you know is going through this please get reach out to someone and share! Telling someone can be the hardest part but know that you are loved and you can work through this. Men's Health Week is a great opportunity to celebrate our mosaic brains and the incredible, uniqueness of the masculine and feminine tendencies found in all blokes – some weighted in more areas than others. The world needs you and your health is a critical matter. There are health issues which only affect men. The world could be more sensitive toward your needs and how we promote healthcare in a way that makes it a more engaging place for which you can be cared for. Day 4 - Up the Creek with a Paddle 7 DAY CHALLENGE – Setting Goals the Smart Way SETTING GOALS THE SMART WAY Specific. When setting goals, they should answer the highly specific questions of who, what, where, when, and why. Measurable. In order for us to track our progress, goals should be quantifiable. Track progress and set timelines. Attainable. It is important to evaluate your situation honestly and recognize which goals are realistic, and achievable. Relevant. Is this goal relevant to your life and to the "big picture" questions you have already asked yourself? Some good questions to ask yourself when figuring this out are: does it seem worthwhile? Is now the right time for this? Does this match my needs? Time related goals must have a due date. Instead of saying I am going too, say this goal will be realised on the DAY MONTH YEAR. Prioritise goals, make them realistic, achievable and worthwhile. This will give you a clear idea of what success will look like on completion. Check out the Physical, Mind, Social and Food Challenge from Day 4. Summary · SMART GOALS for success. · On your bike. · Focus on your dreams and goals. · Say “hi” to a stranger today. · Make a food list and start using it to shop.

It's men's health week, which I inadvertantly read as "men's mental health week" when I saw it... check your filters Dave! But that lead me to the question why do we even need a men's health week? Well, the simple answer is that men (on average, not ALL men) are more likely to ignore illness, both physical and mental (except for man flu... by god will we tell you about that!) and try to push it to the side. This is something that is generationally drilled into us and in 2020 is it still the right approach? In this episode I discuss that and more. WOuld love to know your thoughts on what it means to "be a man" in 2020!

Day 1 - Up the Creek with a Paddle 7 Day Challenge Day 2 is about Self Management. What you think and feel will play a major role in how you live your life. Your conscious thoughts, reactions and emotional responses will be tested throughout your life. Life is a roller coaster of highs and lows, the key is how you react to both scenarios. When you are young the likely reaction is more knee jerk than considering options and finding the best solution. Self management is stepping back, checking for the best solution, creating a positive culture in your conscious thoughts and being aware that emotional responses need to be monitored. For a man, wisdom comes with age. Brain development can take up to 27 years. Managing thoughts and feelings is a lifetime priority for happiness. Check out the Physical, Mind, Social and Food Challenges at https://www.wellman.org.au/post/day-1-up-the-creek-with-a-paddle-7-day-challenge Summary · Life is a roller coaster, step out of the square and have a look to see how you are dealing with reactions and emotions. · Get your legs moving today. · Check in on your conversations and responses. · Have a laugh it is free. · Go green for goodness.
